Regan Black, a USA Today bestselling author, writes award-winning, action-packed romantic novels featuring kick-butt heroines and the sexy heroes who fall in love with them. She and her husband currently enjoy the empty-nest life in the South Carolina Lowcountry where the rich blend of legend, romance, and history fuels her imagination.
Paige Coker has always followed the rules. She cares for people and is there to support her parents. Her life is perfect, until she's suspected of murdering her friend. The Police won't listen to her. After all they have a video that shows her committing the crime. She can't believe this. Who is doing this to her? Her father hires Carter Oakes from the Guardian Agency. He believes in Paige and will keep her safe. They quickly form a connection. Carter and Paige met once before. I found it interesting how that formed a foundation for their current relationship. I liked this story. I couldn't put down Deadly Reflections. I wanted to know how the secrets from the past caused repercussions and death so many years later. Regan Black kept my attention with this exciting romantic suspense. The characters are likable. I cared about them and wanted a HEA.
4.5 stars! This story starts off with a bang, and it doesn't stop there! I really liked the plot and thought it felt unique and fresh. I really liked the characters as well and thought Paige and Carter were great together. I particularly liked Carter - he was a strong hero but not overly alpha. My two small complaints that deducted half a star: I would have loved a touch more romance, and the ending seemed to wrap up just a little too neatly for my taste. Overall, I really enjoyed it!
Deadly Reflections took me to Charleston, South Carolina for the 4th book in ( Behind Closed Door: Family Secrets)- We begin our journey with Paige Coker and a Guarding Agency Protector Carter Oakes. Paige Coker is one that is there to help her mom when she needed it. It just happened that Cora Coker need her help with the retirement party for dad. She had be running around things to finish up and she got a call from Ronnie Detective Lewis now wanted to see her. So she changes her schedule around to go meet with him. She didn't believe her ears when she was told why she was there. They went round and round about it and asked for a lawyer. Her father got her a lawyer and a bodyguard to protect his daughter and find out what going on and to prove she didn't do it. Carter Oakes meets Paige at her parents and before she starts crying she runs out of the house. Carter goes after seeing how she is his client. He here sniffing on the top step of her house. He sits there and just tell her he is here for her. When she stop they go inside and talk he tells her what he does and he is her shadow. He is to protect her and prove her that she didn't do it. She show him the house and the security system the guest bedroom and her office. Then they go back out and make lunch he does grilled cheese and soup. They talk some more and the more she opens up the better it is. They go to her office and show him what she has found in a box that was given to her from his office. He tells her to put that stuff some place where it will be safe so she put it in her safe in her room. The next morning she is up before him and when he comes out he get coffee and wants to start in the office. So they grab there coffee and go to the office and see feels a draft on her feet looks around her office has been trashed. He looks at her tells to get down she can't move so he tackles her asks if she is ok if he hurt her? Then he gets her to the hallway tell her to call the police and asked if she can do that she said yes. He goes outside to search and see if he can find anyone or anything. Then Paige hollers to him and goes inside steps in the footprint when he goes in and talk to the Police and Paige goes right to him. He tell the Detectives he is taking her to a safehouse and nobody will no where they are. Detective Lewis has words with Carter and Carter walks away after he was done. Carter is a Guarding Agency Protector and nothing or nobody is going to get to her or hurt without going through him. He makes all the calls and takes all the precautions to make sure he does his job the way he was trained. Regan had me from the first page to the last page you never know what is going to happen. I love her writing and I love the way she throws the twists in there. But Regan is one of my top favorite writers and when I get her books I read it and get it reviewed and posted because I know that it means the world to her. I suggest if you don't read her books you should try one they are the most fabulous book that are out there.
The title of the book caught my attention. The word reflection has many different meanings. Miriam-Webster Dictionary lists nine different meanings. When I read the title I had several different ideas flash through my head as to the meaning of the title. The book is the fourth in the Behind Closed Doors: Family Secrets series and I did not find it to be any problem that I had not read any of the others. The beginning of Chapter Two put a big smile on my face when Carter got a text saying ‘PROTECT’ and I realized that this book was another Guardian Agency story. The Guardian Agency series by Regan Dunn is a huge favorite of mine. A couple of hours later I realized that I was caught in a ‘you can not put it down’ book. The Coker family, one of Charlotte’s leading families, has secrets. A family member that is manipulated, a family member who is arrested for murder, and another that the other family members have protected from strong emotions for years. Yes, it is a murder mystery that Carter has been assigned to protect the wrongly accused person from other threats. Guardian Agency hires ex-military that have served in elite forces and are good at problem solving, as well as combat. When Paige is arrested by one of her longtime male friends for the murder of her best female friend her world is shattered. She has just recently discovered that she may have been adopted into the Coker family. Paige feels there is no one in her life that she can trust. Can she trust Carter, who is a total unknown? Carter is focused on protecting Paige and not on her female appeal to him. Lots of things do get cleared up in this quick read five-star book.
Being new to both the series and the author, I was not sure what to expect . Once finished, I was glad I gave them both a try. The story belongs to Paige Coker and Carter Oakes. Paige grew up in high society, with parents that loved her. One strong father and a mother that was a little delicate emotionally but whose love was just as strong. Carter , a former lifeguard whose past has made him the man he is today, is a Guardian Agency protector. When Paige is a suspect to a murder, Carter is assigned to protect Paige and figure out who the murdered is. Neither expecting that the chemistry between them would be so strong. But professional above all, Carter is there to protect Paige and figure out why the woman in the video is a dead ringer of Paige, and why someone continues to want to hurt her. As the past and secrets are revealed what seemed to be true on the surface, is really a complex set of lies of omission, and a past that changed everyones life. Though I did figure out most of the plot early on, it was still engaging from the start. One filled with whodunit, mystery, unexpected twists and turns, family dynamics and of course, a little romance. The main characters were likable and sweet. Definitely a story worth your time and an author I will continue to follow. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
A very different hero than what we're used to...ad that's not a bad thing at all. Carter is a breath of fresh air. He's a former lifeguard, not SF/law enforcement anywhere in his history. So he feels more relatable in a way, like someone you could just randomly meet.
Paige could have been the cliched rich-b%^&h socialite but she is far from it. She sees the good in everyone and she acknowledges that not everyone had the same opportunities in life as she had and she doesn't seem to ram her good fortune down others throats.
What begins as planning a top-secret retirement party for her father develops into a game of cat and mouse for Paige. She's implicated in a murder but even though she can see herself on-screen on CCTV footage, she knows it wasn't her. But when even a long-time friend determines she's guilty she doesn't know where to turn for help. Step in Guardian Agency and Carter. They have a tiny connection but one that made an impact in both of their lives.
Trust issues, attempting to hide things for her emotionally fragile mother, and learning that there are some MASSIVE skeletons in the cupboard of her life, Paige goes through the wringer. But she handles it with aplomb and class.
Oh, how I enjoyed this story, it was just what I needed and wanted to enjoyably escape for a few hours. The Guardian Agency stories are some of my favorites because there is the perfect balance between the love story and danger and suspense. They are shorter in length and have rescued me from many reader-slumps over time. Carter Oakes is a smart, kind, and considerate gentleman, who protects and solves problems for a living, and can be tough and rough if the job requires it. And Paige Coker can use all the help offered in the situation she is in. The fact that Paige is in serious trouble was intriguing, and that the detective who was focusing on her was her friend added another level of thrill to the tale. I liked the connection between Paige and Carter, it was natural, it was tangible, and it was believable. They clicked on many different levels, and I truly reveled them two together. The stress is high, the solutions are out of the box, the threat is real, and the danger finds them no matter how well they hide. A thrill ride of a suspense tale mixed with a sweet love story is the perfect read for a cold winter night, it is a riveting, emotional, and delightfully captivating story. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
Paige Coker’s friend has been murdered and the police believe she is the murderer. A security video taken at the scene appears to show Paige in the room. While planning her father’s retirement party, recently discovered documents made her wonder if she had been adopted. Why wouldn’t her parents tell her if that was so? Fearing for her safety, her parents hire Carter Oakes from the Guardian Agency for her protection. Carter knows that Paige is not a killer and he will investigate and keep her safe. Is it possible that Paige has an unknown twin? When a woman who looks like Paige appears, what is her motive for contacting Paige? Is she Paige’s twin and is she the killer? Paige grows closer to Carter as he appears to be the only one that she can trust. I really enjoyed everything about this book, the complex story line, the characters and a satisfying ending as Paige and Carter follow the clues to find the killer. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
Having only read this one in a series, I enjoyed it. It was well written and while I was not surprised at the track it took, I was glad it had a happy ending. It had such potential the other way that it would not have been a shocker.
Paige is a society princess with everything going well at the moment. She goes out of her way to help mother. She loves her father. Everything is good...
Until it is not... Then her friend is dead. Who has done the deed? According to the authorities and the footage... she did! But why did her best friend have to die? And who did it? Despite photographic evidence, it was not her.
Who is out there threatening to ruin her life? Why steal her face to do it? Will there be justice done?
Life is full of secrets and surprises. This book serves up a veritable feast of them and completes the circle with a happy ending.
I received a free copy from the author and am volunteering an honest review for the benefit of others.
What would you do if you were caught on video doing something that could put you in prison for the rest of your life? The worst part it’s not you! How do you prove you didn’t do it when the police have such damaging evidence, the video. Paige knows she didn’t do this and her rich and influential father hires Carter from one of the best private security agency’s. His job is to protect Paige. It seems it is needed as someone seems to want her dead. Paige and Carter work together to try and dig out secrets that could change her life forever! Not only a protector there seems to be a chemistry between them. I really enjoyed reading this book. It had mystery, drams, and romantic leanings. Characters you can believe and like. Situations that are really possible. I recommend this book it’s well written. Thank you Regan Black and the Behind closed doors: Family Secrets Series book 4 for allowing me to read this book. This is my honest opinion.
I absolutely loved this book which deals with lots of different scenarios for the well written characters. Paige is a society heiress loved by all and she is a genuinely kind and caring person. She is accused of murdering her close friend and the video evidence is very compelling and clearly shows her at there at the time of the murder and touching the victim. But she wasn’t there so how is that possible. Carter Oakes is the private investigator hired via the Guardian Agency to look into what happened and protect Paige from the police keen to charge her. The story has lots of twists and turns. The secrets are revealed bit by bit keeping the reader hooked. The emotional rollercoaster faced by Paige is brilliantly written and you really experience all her emotions. Carter was the perfect man to protect and nurture Paige through this ordeal. A beautifully written book that was hard to put down. I was given an ARC by the author and have voluntarily reviewed.
This is an exciting tale that will literally grab your attention from the very first chapter. It’s got unexpected twists, life threatening danger, and elements of family drama that all surprisingly lead to a sweet HEA. Paige’s and Carter’s characters fit so well together that the narrative flows effortlessly, and you’ll be captivated by the charming warmth in their relationship. From the start you are on their side and willing to be totally immersed in their story. All the characters are well drawn, and the storyline is not only engaging but extremely enjoyable. There are moments it will have you on the edge of your seat, while at others you’ll feel it tugging at your heartstrings and bringing a smile to your face. One thing’s for sure, it will definitely hold your interest and keep you involved throughout, finding it hard to put it down.
Paige Coker is planning a special event for her father when she runs across some papers of her fathers' that question her history. Suddenly, the head chef of the event is viciously murdered in the kitchen while Kate is busy somewhere else. Problem is that, the video in the kitchen shows a woman who looks exactly like Kate and, the police do not believe that she is innocent, even though she has an alibi. Carter Oakes, of the Guardian Agency is hired by someone to keep Paige safe and, find who the real killer is. Kate doesn't understand why she needs help when she knows that she is innocent but, she soon finds that the best thing that could have happened to her was Carter having her back through a terrifying experience, especially when family secrets start coming to light! This was a fast, fascinating story that you won't want to put down!!
This page turning thriller kept me captivated from the first chapter of Regan Black's book of the fourth installment in the Behind the Closed doors series. Paige Coker is a wealthy event planner who is accused of killing her event caterer and close friend. Due to the surveillance video obtained by Detective Ronnie Lewis and her weak alibi, she is forced to find the real killer who has her exact looks. Guardian Agency Protector Carter Oakes is assigned for her protection while searching for the real killer at large. During the investigation some family secrets come to light that changes Paige's world in a way she couldn't have imagined. Fast paced with clever writing, characters you can relate to, and a story that is unique brings this thriller as a top read for any sleuth enthusiast. I would highly recommend this fun read.
Deadly Reflections by Regan Black is the fourth book in the Behind Closed Doors: Family Secrets series which are five stand alone books by five top romantic suspense novel authors that get together every so often to put mini series together for their readers. This was one of my favorite books in this series. It grabbed me from the start and held me from the end. I loved Paige the rich girl, who really was not a spoiled brat and Carter, the former lifeguard turned bodyguard, match up beyond word. The family secret in this book was also a great one that I loved. I don’t want to give away spoilers so a I am going to say is Regan Black outdid herself with the suspense and the touch of romance in this book. Needless to say I am giving Deadly Reflections five out of five stars!
Set in the Low Country of South Carolina, the Coker name is synonymous with society events, money and privilege. Page Coker, socialite daughter of the wealthy Charleston South Carolina Cokers, has been brought into the police station and questioned about the murder of her friend. An old school mate who is now the police officer, is working to pin this murder on Page. To help clear his daughters name Paige’s father hires a private security agency. In enters Carter Oaks. In the process of clearing Page’s name some very interesting family secrets are revealed. Solving this mystery involves Paige and Carter finding danger, adventure, and maybe a little romance. Deadly Reflections, #4 in the Behind Closed Doors: Family Secrets series is a must read!
"Light", that's what Carter thought of Paige when he met her, as he considered himself dark, so should he even be thinking about something more? Iron clad video evidence shows Paige at the scene of a murder, so how can Carter help her? Questions, even before this terrible incident happened were plaguing Paige's mind and how can she tell anyone about her thoughts now that she is being accused of murder? I liked the fast paced investigation and speed of this book, the right amount of intrigue and the right amount of blossoming emotions. It was a complicated situation for the answer, and the path to forgiveness was chosen.
Deadly Reflections by Regan Black is the fourth book in the Behind Closed Doors series. The story begins with Detective Ron Lewis who calls Paige Coker into the Charleston police station to question her as to where she was the previous night. Melissa Runner, Paige's friend and the catering owner/chef she hired for her father's surprise retirement party had been shot and killed. The surveilance video from Melissa's kitchen shows Paige bending over Melissa's body with a gun in her hand. Paige knows she didn't do it. The mystery of who the real murderer ends up to be is quite a story. I really liked the mystery and suspense. This is a well-written whodunit and a super addition to the series.
I loved this murder mystery. An action packed story that you will lose sleep over. Paige Coker has had all the best things in life. She hasn't wanted for anything. She thought that she had the perfect life until the day she was called in to the police station and accused of murder. While planning her father's retirement party, she comes across a picture of her father with another woman who she looks like. Trying to deal with the ramifications of the picture and a murder charge hanging over her head, Paige works to try and find the truth. The secrets that come out will have you gasping. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
This is book 4 of a series by mixed authors but there is another book that follows with the same author about the sister jayne finding love (I read that before this one) I have not read this series behind closed doors but I have read many series with the guardian agency in mostly under the name by Regan black. I have marked down because I am not a fan of messy series with mixed authors, all writing in the same world it makes it messy and you read in the future sometimes like I did I read jayne finding love them had to go back in time and read this.disappointing as a reader
Deadly reflections by Regan Black is the 4th book in the Behind closed doors, family secrets series. It can be read as a standalone but the first two books are very good so you wouldn’t want to miss them. All books in this series are written by different authors. I really liked it! Interesting characters, great plot with a lot of twists and turns and suspenseful. I loved Paige and Carter and the family secrets. I highly recommend this book. I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.
When the police have a video of Paige Coker at the scene of her friends death, she is the prime suspect. She was in the middle of planning a surprise retirement party for her Father during the annual business Christmas party. Her friend was the caterer along with being a good friend. Desperate to clear her name, she agrees to cooperate with the Guardian Agency Protector, Carter Oakes. Will he be able to help clear her name while she is a target for whoever did kill her friend?
This is the fourth book in the Behind Closed Doors series and doesn't disappoint.
Regan Black has done it again. Action, suspense, some laughter, a few tears and some romance. Those are all the things I found and more when reading Deadly Reflections. The first evening with the book, I read about 70% of it in one sitting. I didn't get to finish, because I had to get some sleep. The rest of the book did not disappoint. Love Regan's writing and look forward to more.
This was an ARC I was lucky enough to get. All she wanted was an honest opinion. So there you have it.
Deadly Reflections is the 4th book in the series Behind Closed Door: Family Secrets. This was a awesome read it pulled me right in and kept me turning the pages until the very end. I would certainly recommend this book to others. I received an ARC of the ebook from one of the other authors in the series and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Paige is planning a surprise party for her fathers retirement when she comes across information that rocks her world. She then becomes the prime suspect in a murder. Someone doesn’t want Paige to find out what her Father is possibly hiding. Carter Oakes is hired to protect Paige and his Agency is investigating the murder. I guessed part of the story but I still enjoyed the characters and the story. Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy.
This is the 4th book in the series but it isn't necessary to read the others to follow this thrilling suspense. The story includes mystery, murder, family drama, and romance. The characters are well-developed and believable. I love how Paige Coker and Carter Oakes work together to save Paige from going to prison for a crime she didn't commit. I love the storyline and wonderful characters. Regan Black pens another awesome story.
Twists I didn't see coming and absolutely loved. Then to have a Guardian Agency member, *swoon* Starts off running and you are holding the stitch in your side as you run along with them Murder and family secrets - wow. Family flaws can lead to family beauty. It's the character of the people that turn any situation into a success. Well done Regan Black. I received an arc and freely volunteer my own thoughts an opinions.

There are tears near the end as family bonds are being created. I was mesmerized with the story and couldn’t stop reading as Carter and Paige worked their way from the beginning to the end.
