The heavy burden of caring for the well-being of another life shouldn’t fall on the shoulders of a teenager. But I never complained or shied away from it.
I had this friend. He needed me.
As the years went by, I continued to find myself drawn to those with pain in their eyes, wanting to ease their anguish with a smile or a joke.
That was what first lured me to Journey.
I quickly learned she bristled at even the suggestion of her vulnerability. We may be like oil and water, but I revel in fighting for her attention. This fiery beauty is worth the wait, and I’m playing the long game.
She claims not to be the commitment type, but I see hope and refuse to give up. Can I convince her we belong together? Or will I be the one left hiding my own pain behind a smile?
From USA Today Bestselling Author, Shari J. Ryan, comes the highly-anticipated conclusion to The Barrel House Series!
S.J. Ryan is a USA Today Bestselling Author of Contemporary Romance and Romantic Comedies.
Shortly after graduation from Johnson & Wales with a bachelor's degree in marketing, Shari began her career as a graphic artist and freelance writer. She then found her passion for writing books in 2012 after her second son was born. Shari has been slaying words ever since.
This was a good read. Brody and Journey both have some issues they have been dealing with. However, it doesn't stop them from spending time together. It comes to find out that they are what both needed. Thankfully they both find happiness in the end.
We have Journey Quinn's story in Bourbon on the Rocks, but the story from Brody's perspective gives their journey to forever and entirely different look. I wondered at the wisdom of two books telling the same story from different points of view, but seeing things through Brody's eyes made for a completely different reading experience. The author could have given us one book from dual POVs, but this format is better than I ever could have imagined, and I appreciate the wisdom of giving us two separate stories.
Brody's story picks up shortly after the death of the Quinn patriarch and long-time owner of The Barrel House. Journey is working her way through grief, as well as some other issues, and keeping busy with her job as a photographer. Although her sister, Melody, is now handling the daily operation of The Barrel House, Journey is involved behind the scenes, and Brody Pearson seems to be a permanent fixture there. It seems no matter where she goes, there's Brody with his charming smirk, his attempts to make her laugh, and his inability to take no for an answer.
Brody certainly has his hands full with his job as a cooper making bourbon barrels, raising his preteen daughter, and ghosts of the past reappearing. He doesn’t have time for dating, but Journey is the exception. He sees behind her prickly exterior to the shadows in her eyes and the pain she carries. He'd like nothing more than to help her carry her burdens and put a light back in her eyes.
This exceptionally gifted wordsmith always delivers a moving, evocative reading experience that often deals with difficult subjects. It seems she's not content until she has bled every emotion into her words which in turn strip ours bare. But always, threads of hope, healing, forgiveness and new beginnings woven throughout the pages lighten the reader's heart, leaving it happy, content and satisfied.
In Brody's story, both death and suicide are crucial elements, so if your heart and head are in a place that’s vulnerable to these issues, please proceed with caution. Otherwise, I wholeheartedly recommend this book and the entire series. It's one of the most raw, authentic, stunningly beautiful romances you’ll ever read and joins Journey’s book as one of my top five reads for the year. You absolutely won’t want to miss it!
Well this book came out of left field for me. Once again Shari J. Ryan touched on a subject I know all too well and that’s the subject of loss. In Bourbon Fireball we get the story of Brody and Journey from his POV. There are layers to Brody that we didn’t even realize. We knew he might have been holding onto a secret, but we weren’t sure how deep it went. This explores that and his relationship with his daughter Hannah and Journey.
Brody at one point seem to have it all. A high school baseball career, a good family, and a few friends. He has always crushed on Journey but knew maybe it wasn’t their time when she sped off into the night. Yet that wasn’t the only thing to alter his life you see Brody once had a best friend who did the unthinkable and he carries this with him still to this day. He managed to pick up the pieces and lock them up tight and got married and divorced and became a single dad. When he is confronted with seeing Journey again after all these years, he figures this is his chance. He knows he has skeletons in his closet and so does she. Little by little they open up to each other and become important in each other’s lives. Being a single dad is hard and starting a relationship with his ongoing secret isn’t easy, but I guess nothing ever is if you want it bad enough.
Like I said this story touched me. I read it in a day and a half and that’s a record for me lately. My mental health hasn’t been great, but I have an amazing family by my side every day. I wish that were the case here. I think even years later all of us are trying to pick up the pieces of our tragedy. I liked that Brody was such a consistent good father. He didn’t take Hannah’s attitude as being a teenager. I disliked her mom and I’m glad Journey stopped running along enough for Brody to catch her. I really enjoyed this whole series.
This books I swear....If you have read Bourbon on the Rocks you've already met Journey and Brody but form Journey's point of view. Now in Bourbon Fireball we get the story for Brody's point of view. Now I already know your thinking the same co ui plea story from a different POV has to be like reading the same book over again. I promise you it is not. This books is emotional and beautiful and quiet the way to end this series. Brodyb8s abman who has demons and hes good at hiding them form the world as hes just trying his best to the best father he can be while handling the end of his marriage. But you know life it will bring back the people you least expect just when you need them. Journey is back and is the girl he as a teen carried a pretty serious crush for. Now Brody knows is the chance he has been waiting on. Now can he get her to slow down from running long enough to get her to see they belong together? This book will have you hooked from the beginning to end. Break your heart in to pieces but never fear Shari Ryan would never leave you crushed so you'll close the book with your heart back in one piece and a smile on your face.
Why? Why do I always forget that I will need tissues to make it to the end of a Shari J Ryan title? At least this time, most of them were sweet happy tears and I’m not quite the complete emotional wreck I usually am. This is not a book to be read out of context. You really do need to have read the three before it for everything to make sense, especially Bourbon on the Rocks which is Journey’s side of the events that take place in the front half of this book. From Journey’s story, I knew that she was dealing with some very heavy issues. Now I get to see it from Brody’s perspective and learn that he’s carrying burdens just as heavy. I loved everything about this book. My heart hurt for them, but I don’t think there’s anything I would change even if I could. Except maybe make it so it wasn’t over. The collective Quinn and Pearson families have crawled into my heart and I’m nowhere near ready to say “goodbye” to them. Stories of The Barrel House next generation perhaps? I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Foreword PR & Marketing.
As a teenager Brody went through a traumatic event that has shaped his life ever since. He is a man who hides his secrets and his past underneath a demeanor where he appears carefree and untroubled but appearances can be deceiving. He is trying to balance the end of his marriage, being the best father he can be and the re-appearance of Journey in his life.
Journey has a painful past of her own and as determined as Brody is to have her in her life she is just as cautious about letting anyone close. There is no denying the chemistry and connection between them and with a trust and love they must just realize that in sharing their burdens they may be able to help each other heal.
Journey and Brody’s journey is filled with emotion but there is no denying that they are so much stronger together than apart.
First of all, I'm really sad that this series is coming to an end, but to be fair, Bourbon Fireball was one hell of a way to go out with a bang! In Bourbon on the Rocks, we got Journey's story from her POV (including the whole Brody situation), but now, Brody's story from his POV is up on tap. I never once thought that his demons were the demons that were revealed at this stage, but that's just Shari J. Ryan for you. The way she's given her couples a voice from the different books is very original, plus in my opinion, the angst is magnified in this way because the pain comes through more palpable to me. Journey was carrying around some heavy baggage, but now I know that Brody was carrying his own heavy load as well. I'm trying to make this review cryptic because 1. I don't want to cry again, and 2. it's just better to experience it for yourselves without any preconceived notions as Ms. Ryan blew me away with shock & emotion. So, hit those one click buttons but you need to start with Bourbon on the Rocks if you haven't already. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I really can’t get enough of this series. I love getting every side and angle to this story possible. And I loved it even more in Brody’s eyes. I had to keep flipping the pages as fast as I could because I just couldn’t put it down! I loved getting into Brody’s head and couldn’t put this book down!
Fourth and final book of the series was a good read. I enjoyed the whole series and having the story told from each characters point of view. Loved all the characters and getting to know them
I came across this couple in You Complete Me, one of the 39 short stories in the Take Me to Bed: A Bedtime Quickies Collection anthology. The short story is one big awkward moment of how Brody meets Journey. The attraction to one another was instant. The banter had me laughing so much. I really, really, really want to read more about this couple which led me to finding this book. I cant wait to read through this series, especially Bourbon Fireball.
Bourbon Fireball is the 4th book in the Barrel House series. After reading the first 3 books, I thought I had an idea of what was coming with Brody’s side of the story, but I was so wrong.
The way this series is set up (2 books from the leading ladies’ points of view followed by 2 books with the hero’s telling their side of things) is very interesting. With Love Notes/Nights (Brett and Melody) we saw some of the same events as the two books moved along. I had expected something similar here with Brody’s point of view with his relationship with Journey, but that’s not really where this book went and I missed that aspect here as the two stories for Brody and Journey didn’t feel as connected as I would have liked.
The journey Brody takes us on is very much his story and the romantic relationship almost seems to be an after thought. There were actually several places in the book where I wondered why he and Journey were even together- and that was a weird place to be after seeing her side on things in Bourbon on the Rocks. The focus here seemed to be more about Brody’s relationship with his daughter from a previous marriage and how pieces of his past made him a more aware Dad. I appreciated the focus on mental health that was present here, both in the advocacy role and in the open discussion of the issues. That is something that has run through this series and I hope seeing fictional characters seek help will encourage anyone struggling to raise their hand and let someone give a needed lifeline.
Overall, I enjoyed seeing things from Brody’s point of view, but there were definitely somethings that I felt were left out of the book. There were one or two references to things that Journey dealt with, that we know where key elements to her relationship with Brody from her book, but we never got to see how Brody really felt once those issues were revealed. Given some of the things Brody shares here, I think the tie in to Journey’s past would have made things between them stronger and made this book feel more like a cohesive part of the series.
I’m a little sad to leave The Barrel House, but I appreciated seeing everything wrapped up and glimpses of what life might be like for the Quinn-Pearson family in the future.
In my review of Bourbon on the Rocks (Journey's side of the Story) I was hoping to get the answer as to why Brody was never at any of the family functions. Well, Bourbon Fireball has that answer!!! This is Brody's agonizing story to tell.
We see how Brody feels about his connection to Journey, and how he never wavers in his pursuit of her. We're shown how great of a father he is, and why he fights so hard to have a special bond with his daughter. There are reason's he never gives up on the people he loves.
This all stems from one unfathomable event the occurs with his best friend Pete. Brody carried this event around since his junior year in high school. This has shaped the man Brody became.
Reading Bourbon Fireball had my heart breaking for what Brody went through. After learning his story, I can completely understand why he pushed Journey and Hannah the way he did. Guilt is a terrible thing to deal with, and with Journey and Hannah by his side he was able to heal.
This is the last book in the Barrel House Series and It made my heart happy to see how it ends. The epilogue was great. I brought the four stories full circle. I highly recommend not only this book, but the whole series!

This is book 4 in Ryan's The Barrel House series. This is Brody's story and it's another heart wrenching and at the same time heart warming read. Full of life wisdom that can be taken at any age in life which leads to a book full of character growth. I love that while this is Brody and Journey's story, Ryan writes it so that it's truly Brody's story and we only get a few snippets from Journey's story from book 3. I also love the dynamic Brody has with his daughter and the openness he has with the reader about his feelings even if they are not shared with the other characters in the book - his daughter, Journey, his parents etc. This entire series has touched on such powerful and difficult topics and allowed them to be addressed more openly that it's a true testament to the power writing can have on a reader / audience. Ryan's writing has completely blown me away with the depth of characters and topics written and I can't thank her enough for allowing me to be a part of her ARC team and the opportunity to read these soul touching books. Each one has made me want to be a better person to those around me. Thank you!
a few minor typos in my copy - but again, mine was an ARC so these should be caught and corrected before the book goes live...

Journey is struggling with the loss of her father and some of the things she has done in her young life. Brody is the brother of Brett the man her sister is with he is also the man she was with when a tragedy ended up happening. Brody hasn't forgotten Journey but life has moved on somewhat for him and now that they are both back in their hometown he isn't going to leave her alone. Brody is a single father and he works with his father who now owns a percentage Journey's family business so they were already connected that way. Journey has some issues that come up when she isn't dealing well with emotional problems. So she doesn't feel that she is suitable for a long term relationship. Brody won't accept that they don't belong together and keeps prodding her and irritating into doing things with him and his daughter. What will he do when he learns all her secrets? Will Journey see that she can move one from her past?
This is another emotional installment in this series that will keep you captivated beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

4.5 Breathtaking Stars! I was totally consumed by this sweet, emotional, and heartfelt slow burn romance. This journey through love, loss, redemption, hope, and forgiveness will have you in tears of heartbreak and joy! I fell hard for Journey and Brody in Bourbon on the Rocks, but really wanted to know more about Brody. Bourbon Fireball is his pov and his side of it was so raw and emotional. We learn more about his gift or curse of being drawn to those in pain. He has always wanted to help others, but it can be a painful burden as well. But it is what draws him to Journey and he loves the challenge. But what he didn't expect was how she would help him and his daughter as well. I loved how artfully Ryan weaved this story between the past and present. It kept me totally engaged and helped me understand Brody even more. Ryan is a phenomenal storyteller, and this slow burn romance was perfectly balanced with sass, sweetness, and heat. I loved Brody's patience with Journey and his daughter. He made me totally swoon with the thoughtful things he did for both of them. I enjoyed how Brody and Journey helped and supported each other and their fiery attraction and chemistry leaped right off the page. This is a wonderfully rich, powerful and raw story that touched on some emotional topics with honesty and empathy. It made me love Brody and Journey's heartwarming and emotionally captivating story even more!
Bourbon Fireball is the fourth book in the Barrel House series and it is Brody’s story. Brody has been my favorite character in this series so I have been eagerly awaiting his POV and he did not disappoint. I do recommend that you read Bourbon on the Rocks prior to reading this book in order to fully appreciate it.
While we see Brody and Journey’s relationship through his eyes, the story really shows how much Brody loves and cares for the people in his life. Brody’s backstory was heartbreaking and really showcases how much empathy Brody has. He’s a loyal and caring friend through even the most difficult of times.
Brody is a wonderful father and I felt this story was really about his relationship with Hannah. He has so much concern about Hannah’s wellbeing and he’s determined to make sure she has the best possible life in spite of her mother.
The characters in this entire series were so well developed. The stories are about love, loss, grief, joy, and the ups and downs of life. I feel like this family are well-loved friends and I’m sad to say goodbye to them.
Shari Ryan delivers with Bourbon Fireball. In this final book of The Barrel House series, Ryan tells Brody's perspective. Having seen Brody's character throughout this series, you already have an inkling of what Ryan will tell, however, she brings so much more depth to the story than you could ever expect. Brody wasn't just drawn to Journey, it was meant to be.
Most authors would just have collapsed this series into a duet with dual POV's. While that would have been easier, I think Ryan did the right thing by showing us both perspectives from four different books. This family unit/friend unit definitely had a deep, complex story to tell. I think by writing it the way Ryan did, you really get to the core of each relationship.
Bourbon Fireball is exactly what I needed and wanted from Brody. Ryan really wrote an excellent ending to this series with an exceptional character that I've been a fan of throughout. While you don't have to read the entire series to enjoy Bourbon Fireball, I do highly recommend at least reading Journey's story in Book 3 prior to this one.
We got to focus on Brody's story more in this story as well as Journey's story. Who is Brett and how do he and Brody know one another? Oh goodness, as I got into the first chapter, things started coming back in pictures in my mind from book 3 of the series. I started remembering the previous three books and things that had happened. There were some serious flashbacks with regards to Brody's friend, Pete. Who was he? What was their friendship like? What do we learn? What is Hannah's relationship like with Brody and Kristy? What do we learn from Hannah? There were some SERIOUSLY HUGE secrets that come out in this story. Some surprises that I never would have expected. I hope this won't be the end of this series. I want/hope to see more of Hannah and Parker in the future. Who is Isla? Read and see!

This is book four, the last book for The Barrel House series. Picking up this book was two things, first I could bit wait to get my fingers on it and settle in to see how the author ties up the series with Brody's story. Secondly, I dreaded it for the simple reason that the series comes to an end and I have totally fell in love with these characters, their world and I hate goodbyes. Just like each book before it, I was completely committed once I got started. The weight that is carried by both Brody and Journey is astounding and it starts when they are teenagers. Make sure you read the first three books first, get a fresh box of tissues and get comfy as another emotional rollercoaster ride is starting. I highly recommend this series, I am bummed it is done but cannot wait to start it from the beginning again. Enjoy!

Loved Brody's & Journey's story. This book is from Brody's POV. This book was very well written and very real!
The final book in the Barrel House series and I really did not want it to end. I think you must read the first three books in the series, to get the full impact of this book. Another emotional rollercoaster by Ms. Ryan, and this time I was ready. I knew after reading Bourbon nights, we would get to know Brody better, just as we did Brett in the previous book. We are now getting to see the story through Brody's eyes. In my mind I thought I had Brody figured out, I was wrong. The layers to him are endless, and his burdens are just as heavy as Journey’s. Humor is his way to cover his pain. The story picks up not long after the death of Journey’s father, and the author wraps up the ending beautifully.
Thank you to Booksprout and the author for the free copy for a voluntary review.
This is book four in the Barrel House series. This book is told from Brody’s POV. It picks up from the time Brody and Journey run in to each other in book two. You could technically read this story without reading any of the other books, but I think the series is more enjoyable read in order. I would like to say that Brody is my favorite. I loved Brett for his romantic lovable side, but Brody is a character unto his own. He’s confident and funny but vulnerable at the same time. Not everyone looks deep enough to see the real him. I love how he is with his daughter Hannah and how he never gives up on Journey even though she tries so hard to push him away. I can’t even begin to express how much I’ve enjoyed this series.

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, mayhem, and shenanigans and boy are there shenanigans Quinn the patriarch and owner of The Barrel House death hits them all hard Journey is trying to get through the grief, dealing with issues and trying to be the best photographer she can all while her sister is running the The Barrel House. Brody gives his all just to make her smile all while dealing with his hormonal daughter and really can’t find the time to date but Journey makes him take a step back and give a moment of the time he doesn’t have just make sure she smiles will it be enough or should I say will they be enough with all else they are dealing with?
This is the final book in this incredible series, and I'm sorry to see it end. This is Brody and Journey's story, told from his point of view. Book 2 of the series - Bourbon on the Rocks - was told from her POV. Among other things, the book explains his absence from family functions throughout the years. The biggest negative in the book is Kristy, Hannah's mother; I like her even less now that we know her true character. Brody, on the other hand, is such a great guy that there's really nothing to dislike - he's loyal to a fault... doesn't take Hannah's attitude, carefully choosing his battles with her, always consistent in how he handles his job as her father... I love the epilogue, and hope that maybe there's another series hidden there somewhere.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
If you have not read book 2 in the Barrel House series Bourbon on the Rocks, then I recommend reading it first. This is Brody's pov, and it was absolutely amazing. I think it is my favorite of the series.
Shari does an amazing job retelling Brody and Journey's story in his pov. I did not feel like I was reading the same book or lovestory at all.
I absolutely love Brody!!! His and Hannah's relationship cracked me up so many times.
I definitely recommend this book, and this series.
I think Parker and Hannah should get books now. It would be hilarious watching Brody and Brett have a fit because their babygirls are dating.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Bourbon Fireball is intense, gripping and I couldn’t put this book down. It is definitely a emotional rollercoaster type of story as the book goes from the present to the past and back again, through heartache and healing, and loss and love. It is a journey for Brody and Journey, two kindred souls sharing the ugliness of their past in order to help each other heal, find happiness, love and family. Brody’s daughter, Hannah also played an important part in this story. She also had obstacles to face and because of Brody and Journey’s pasts, it gave them a better understanding of the challenges she faced. This story had many sad moments but it also had quite a few happy ones and in the end happiness won out!
It's review time 🎧 Warning ⚠️ : not a standalone, or maybe it can be, but I think you should read the series.
Narrator score🎧 ; well, I don't know when I read the books, because I didn't listen to the first books, I was imaging the voice of Brody wasn't as stuck up, or enjoying even . But I think its my problem because the preforming was good.
Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: the book had its drama but I didn't cry.
The book itself📖: well, its the last book in the series and it was good and surprisingly not what I expected. We think we know a story of a character because of what you were told by others, but when you see the truth in his eyes its different. And I liked it more that I could've think I would.
Bourbon Fireball is book #4 in the Barrel House series. It is written from Brody's perspective of his life and relationship with Journey as well as his daughter, Hannah.
This story is about two broken people who have had a lifetime of experiences and traumas that have made them into the people that they are now. At times, this story felt a little rushed, but the lessons that exist in the context of this book are heartfelt and thought-provoking.
This story brings the seriousness of mental health to light, so I would say there could be a trigger for some. If you give this book a chance, though, I think you will see the beauty behind the lessons learned and shared.
You do not have to read the other books in this series to enjoy this one, but they are all good.
Normally the first book in a series is my favorite, but not this time. There was something about Brody that pulled in during book 3, but in this one, he reeled me in hook, line and sinker. I hate to put it this way, but Brody is like an onion....you start peeling back the layers and you find more and more of him.
In this book Shari touches on so many topics that people are faced with today.....teenage suicide, depression, bipolar disorder. She has written about these mental health stigmas in such a way that educates while you giving you an inside view to what all person's involved are feeling.
I cried many times while reading this book......sad tears and happy tears. Shari J Ryan writes human emotion like no one else!!
4.5 stars for this very enjoyable final book in this series. I honestly love this series and the different POVs or sides to each couples’ story have a very cool storytelling method on the author’s part. This is Brody’s POV of Bourbon on the Rocks which was told in Journey’s POV. Of course we also get a lot more of the story and a happy ending too. Both Brody and Journey were able to give each other exactly what the other needed in order to heal from some extremely difficult events in their pasts. I love their emotional journey so much! The epilogue is wonderful and a very satisfying end to this series.
