A woman on board is bad luck... unless she is the key to finding a lost treasure.
Tristan Fisher and his brothers leave their father's fishing boat and return to a life of piracy, longing for the adventure and riches they once knew. With dwindling supplies and a restless crew, fate finally smiles on them when a storm at sea leaves behind flotsam. However, it is more than just boxes and barrels of supplies they find. Tristan and his brothers fish an old woman out of the water who claims to not only know the whereabouts of a treasure map, but who also says she is their long lost grandmother!
Scottish lass, Gavina Drummond's life is turned upside down with one tragedy after another. Now, disguised as a boy and with a treasure map secretly and unwillingly inked on to her back, she finds herself as cabin boy and musician to a dark and dangerous pirate named Tristan. He's not really what she expects and is surprised when he protects her from his cutthroat crew. The handsome man wins her trust and gains her interest.
Gavina needs nothing short of a king's treasure to pay back her father's steep gambling debts and to buy back her brother's freedom. Desperate to find the English king's stolen treasure, her only problem is that she can't see the map to read it. With time running out, it is crucial she finds someone to help her soon.
Tristan seems the likely choice, since searching for treasure is a trait of his kind. But if Gavina confides in him, she'll have to show him the map. And in order to do that, she'll have to disrobe.
Will a dark-hearted pirate discover he's unknowingly brought a woman on board who is also the key to finding his coveted treasure? Or is it not a treasure of silver and gold that he truly desires the most after all?

It makes me feel bad to give any book such a low star count, but I have to be honest. I hated this book. Every page of it. I can't think of one thing I liked about it, other than the cover.
I was turned off when I first opened it and discovered that some of the characters were in other books in other series. It was almost enough for me to not read this, but thankfully the other books had no bearing on this one. It would've been a deal-breaker. Maybe the author wishes I'd never found her book. I don't know.
On to the story:
Gavina is traveling with her father, who gambles everything away and seems to drink too much. Her younger brother was taken by some Lord in lieu of the money her father stole from him in rents and fees and gambled it away. Her father is on a quest for a treasure map so he can buy back his son when he decides to use her as a wager. Things don't go well. Her father ends up on the wrong end of a blade while pirates are coming ashore. Birk, the man he lost to, quickly knocked Gavina out and drew a copy of the map on her back, dressed her in boys clothes, and cut her hair to protect her from these marauding pirates.
Tristan is the captain of The Falcon and is searching for the same map. Birk throws it in the fire just as Tristan and his brothers enter the room. It's gone. They deal with Birk and take Gavina to their ship, thinking she is a boy and will be a new crew member, not knowing she had the map on her back.
Before this happens, the grandmother of these three men is scooped out of the water by these pirates after she was flung overboard of another ship during a violent storm and was left to die. I sort of liked Nairnie, but after awhile she got on my nerves. She always had something to say. Too much at times, but I did like how she handled all these pirates. They backed down to her every time.
Gavina. Oh, my dear stupid Gavina. I don't think I've ever disliked a heroine like I disliked her. She was so stupid. She was so whiny, manipulative, and just made one bad decision after another. And it always put her and/or Tristan in some sort of danger. For instance, Tristan told her to stay below deck because the men now know she's a woman and they've been without women for quite some time. Tristan told her it was for her own protection. She's so afraid of these pirates, yet so goes up on deck anyway. Later on, she tries to escape from Tristan. They're on a ship in the middle of the sea. Just where did she think she was going to go? These are just two examples of her idiocy. There were more than a few, but these two drew the ol' facepalm with a frustrated groan.
Tristan. I'm not sure how I felt about him. I know he was a lot smarter than Gavina, which really wasn't that hard to do, but as a character, he flatlined for me. I didn't hate him, but I wasn't drawn to him, either. I guess the best way to sum him up is that he lacked depth. He gave in to Gavina's every selfish little whim and put up with her immaturity to a point where it made him hard to believe, especially considering he was a pirate. I don't exactly know what I was expecting from him...maybe to be more pirate-y? He had his moments of ruthlessness, but I wanted more passion, more feels, more dominance from him. There was none to be had.
Midway through the book, the theme changed from Gavina wanting to get her brother back to not being alone anymore. Well, considering she'd been with her father up until the time he was murdered and then was taken by Tristan and then was friends with is grandmother, she was never alone. I'm sorry, but I found this to be super irritating and I didn't buy it for a second.
Then she kept saying to Tristan, "I'm yer wife!" Over and over. Did she think he didn't know that? She rode his ass hard, nagged him, manipulated him--I wanted to reach through my screen and punch her in the mouth.
The only relief I got was a secondary character who went by the name Ramble. He was a teenager and had a tendency to talk too much. I loved him. Some of the things he said just cracked me up. Tristan had his own way of dealing with him, but was never really mean to him. I appreciated that. I'm not sure Ramble would make a really good pirate because his heart is too good. But that's neither here nor there. I just liked him.
I guess it's safe to say that I won't be reading anymore of this series or this author. Many will and do enjoy her stories, but this just wasn't for me.
There are quite a number of things happening in this story. The pirates are three brothers, Tristan, Mardon and Aaron. They are planning on finding the King’s lost treasure by following a map. Tristan is the captain and can be ruthless, although, he does have a different side to his character. The person who brings this side of him out is Gavina. Gavina is determined to rescue her younger brother from a noble, as he was taken in a raid. Their grandmother, Nairnie, was a fearless woman and certainly one of a kind. Although, Tristan and Gavina have an attraction, Gavina doesn’t want to live her life on a ship but could Tristan change his ways. There is plenty of action in this entertaining story, on land and on sea. Now for the story of the next brother, Mardon!
Yowza! Filled with a gorgeous swashbuckling pirate, a humorous amazing grandmother, a beautiful woman dressed as a lad and an adventure that doesn't stop until the end!
Elizabeth Rose always wraps her stories with everything a reader could ever ask for and this tale is no exception! Excitement, search for treasure, rapscallion pirates, ruthless villains, humor that will have you chuckling out loud, a steamy romance and of course a delightful journey to love that will grab you and not let go.
With a cover that is scrumptious and the first in a new series, what more can you ask for? Only the second book which hopefully we will not have to wait for long!
this book was a fast-paced story that keeps you glued to the chapters. I found that the story was full of action and adventure. The three brothers had made a pack to always be together, but will a woman change that? There are many different adventures in this story and it takes you across the sea with pirates. I found that this story was told in a way that made you feel like you are on the ship itself. I received a copy of this for an honest review.
After struggling through 6% of the book, I had to give up. What little I read was one info dump after another, many with 2- 3 sentences in a row saying the same damn thing. DNF.
Definitely five stars and more! Oh my gosh, be still my foolish heart! This is my second Elizabeth Rose story and I am blown away! You’ll have to read it to see how truly fabulous it is! A definite must read!
I loved the story! It’s fast paced, full of action and lots of twists and turns in this fantastic plot. The characters are oh so delightful, from the sexy, swashbuckling pirate Tristan ( sigh ), the delightfully amusing grandmother, Narnie, to the beautiful Gavina posing as a lad.
The love story was oh so good. Elizabeth whisks the reader out to the sea in this fast paced, action packed adventure in search of treasure. From the first sentence to the very last, I could not put this book down. I was totally immersed in this wonderful journey.
The dialogue was witty, humorous, and oh so entertaining. The story was captivating and the details provide the vision that heightens the drama. The scenes are vividly descriptive with such colorful detail and Elizabeth’s imagery is as just perfect.
Thank you so much Elizabeth Rose for such a wonderfully written story.
Ugh. Too much backstory information at the start ruins the dramatic tension of the opening scene, and too many passive verb/helping verbs dilutes the immediacy of the action. Couldn’t get past the first few paragraphs. It’s apparent this is not a stand alone book. The cover looks intriguing, but the writing needs editing.
Tristan Elizabeth Rose Basically, I liked the premise of Tristan and Gavina's story. However, there were some editorial errors which I feel the author should have corrected before release. Nairnie, I was very happy to see, was a strong character who could hold her own. But I feel that Gavina , being the female main character, was not strong enough because she hid behind the other two main characters, Tristan and Nairnie. But, the confrontational scenes between the crew members of the Falcon and the Posiden were particularly well written and very descriptive. Ms. Rose is a very talented writer and I have read many of her books. Sadly, I don't feel that this one is quite of the caliber of her past ones because the plot lags in a few places and doesn't pick up until midway through the book. But, when it does pick up, it is very exciting and engages the reader.
We!l written, rollicking and rolling on the high seas. Tristan, pirate captain, chasing a ship to plunder after coming out of a squall, rescue a woman in the flotsam that had fallen off the other ship. He and his brother's, Marcos and Aaron rescue the woman and find out she is their grandmother. They are especially interested when it turns out Narnie, their grandmother, knows who had stolen their father's treasure map. When they tried to get the mall what they got was Gavin/Gavina who had the map inked on her back and the original map burned. Wonderful adventures, many emotional highs and lows as Tristan and Gavina fall in love. Deserters kidnap Narnie and Gavina delivering to a rival pirate to change captains to go find the treasure. Must Read
Excellent read. I like to read about families that are not perfect but do good things. Will anxiously await the next books to learn of the treasure and Narnie.
Captivated By The Cover, Captivated By The Story This story deserves more than 5 stars. Fast paced story that moved so fast and had so much story to it that I was totally captivated. This book stayed in my head for days after I finished it. I don't think I will ever forget the pirate Tristan. He possessed more qualities than he thought he had. He made my heart twitter. The story was amazing and the characters were so incredibly intriguing, fun, dangerous and more. You had to love the gruff and hilarious Grandmother Nairnie, Tristan is as hot as the cover shows, Sweet Gavina. The plot was fabulously tense and exciting with many ups and downs. Handsome Pirates, treasure, heated intimacy after marriage, battles, sabotage, shocking surprises, and more. One of the best pirate stories I have ever read. Just plain entertaining
"Tristan (Pirate Lords, #1) by Elizabeth Rose was a great, quick, action-packed read. Captain Tristan Fisher and his brothers are looking for the treasure that his father had buried and need's the map to do it. His Grandmother had the map, it was stolen, but she had memorized the details. Enroute the Tristan and his brothers find their Grandmother in the sea after she fell off her original boat. Tristan also finds Gavina Drummond who is dressed as a boy and being called Gavin after her father bet her in a card game and lost his life. The adventure then truly begins.
An amazing tale with surly, superstitious pirates, two women brought aboard with information about a treasure, and a captain trying to hold everything together. His grandmother Nairnie is cantankerous and fiercely protective of Gavina. Tristan is also worried about Gavina and the men that are around her, that he makes a rash decision to marry Gavina. With bad luck, some unhappy pirates and other things causing their plans to alter Tristan must pull himself together to keep the women safe and the men happy. Not easy. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Tristan finally gets his story told. When treasure is all you want but you get stuck with not just one but 2 women on a ship and every one of your pirate crew knows it is bad luck to have even one on board, what can you do? I loved the conflicts and the tension between Tristan and Gavina. He only wants the treasure map and she does not want to get involved with him because she feels like she is an end to the means.
A wonderful intriguing read! complex and interesting characters make this a must read! Captured my attention on the very first page and I could not put it down! You will laugh and cry and be totally entertained!
Good story about dueling pirates, a crusty female cook who brandishes a frying pan, and a lady with a treasure map on her back. Kept my interest. I received an arc of this book.
Tristan is the captain of the pirate ship Falcon, which he sails with help from his 2 brothers.
Gavina follows her father into a tavern where she sees him gambling with Birk.
Gavina's father bets his daughter in a card game for a treasure map. After Gavina's father is murdered by Birk, Gavina wants to get the treasure to save her younger brother.
During a raid, Tristan comes into the tavern where he sees Birk burning the map. Little does Tristan know, that the map is tattooed on Gavina's back.
Gavina poses as a boy, named Gavin and Tristan takes her on his ship as his cabin boy.
Soon he discovers Gavin is Gavina as The journey begins for Gavina and Tristan.
When Nairnie falls from the Desperado in a storm, the last thing she expects is to be reluctantly rescued by the grandsons she has been searching for. When Tristan, his bothers, and the pirate crew of the Falcon pulled an old woman from the sea in a storm, he knows she will be trouble, even if she is his grandmother. When a raid to recoup a treasure map goes slightly awry, the lad he takes to work on the ship is actually Gavina. Tristan knows that she will most definitely be trouble. Two women on his ship – big trouble!
What we have here is an exhilarating pirate adventure. There are pirates, stormy seas, a race for treasure, kidnapping (Gavina is kidnapped by pirates twice), and family reunions. This story has danger and drama, but it also has laugh-out-loud moments. Except for some ruthless pirates and other evil doers, the characters are fun. Tristan may be the big bad pirate captain, but he has his hands full with Nairnie and Gavina (he knew they were trouble). Mardon, Aaron, and Ramble don’t make dealing with them any easier. I love Tristan and Gavina’s story. Romance on the sea is not easy for them. The attraction and chemistry are strong, but happily ever after might take a while. The Pirate Lords series (which could easily be subtitled The Further Adventures of Nairnie Fisher) is off to a great start. I look forward to more.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Gavina Drummond has watched her father gamble everything away. Now after a terrifying few hours she needs to use her wits to save her own life and find the treasure that will save her little brother.
Tristan Fisher and his two brothers turned to piracy after deciding fishing was never going to make them rich. Unfortunately it's been lean pickings lately and the crew are restless.
Now that treasure could be in reach he is stuck with two troublesome females making things worse.
This is a very amusing historical romance full of adventure and fun. If disaster can happen on board a pirate ship, it does. All the characters are great and the true heroine is just about as unlikely as could be. Lots of giggles and a fair amount of danger.
Thank you for a wonderful story I enjoyed reading this it was very interesting and I was impressed with it as I have only read a few books by this author and I hope to read more
Entertaining story of Tristan, who along with his brothers, Captains the Falcon, a pirate ship. During a storm he sees a ship in the distance and recognizes it as his fathers. When he starts to head towards it, the ship turns around and flees. They come across some goods that fell off the ship and proceed to collect it, but they also find an old woman, who turns out to be their grandmother. They also find out that a young lad they took on the ship after a raid is really a woman and the key to finding a treasure. If only they can overcome the bad luck of having a woman, no, two women on their ship.
Tristan - pirate captain of the Falcon along with 2 of his brothers. Gavina - After her dad was killed she ended up with a treasure map inked on her back and a prisoner to the pirates. I enjoyed reading this engaging story that is well written with unique characters. What's even better is Narine is bk in this series and fiester than ever. Their story has a loving HEA for now. Many questions still But love the story and they are together to face whatever future holds, so 5 stars.
Elizabeth Rose gave me what I wanted in this book. This book is awesome. A lovely pirate love story that brings a big mean pirate and a homeless woman together. Tristan and Gavina. This story id full of sword fights, missing treasure, and wild pirates. I LOVE Nairnie. She is one strong minded grandmother who won't give up when she wants something. This was a fun book to read. A must read and get ready for all the laughs in every chapter. Happy Reading!
TRISTAN (Pirate Lords Series)…. TRISTAN and GAVINA a pirate lord and the victim of a pirate raid. GAVINA , daughter of a criminal, has a treasure map inked on her back. She is carried off to the pirate ship , falls in love with the captain etc. Included as supporting characters are, her blackguard father, the pirates grandmother and brothers. Lots of yelling and running around, little constancy.
Tristan breaks pirate code and brings a woman on board the ship. Never mind that she claims to be his grandma. Then he finds out the the "boy" he took on board after a raid is also a woman. Now the crew thinks they are cursed and Tristan has to deal with the fall out. The only good news is that Gavina has a map on her back that leads to the king's treasure. If he can get his hands on that, maybe the crew will settle down.
Between Nairnie and Ramble, this book had me laughing out loud It has a pirates treasure, a handsome pirate captain, his two brothers and a nasty crew A heroine who everyone thinks is a boy until they take her to the ship but I fell in love with the grandmother and the young cabin boy! Just a really great story
Great fast paced read that keeps reader engaged. A grandmother pulled from the sea, a card game that goes terribly bad and starts the entire adventure looking for treasure.
