Delta Force Heroes #5

Salvare Kassie (Delta Force Heroes Vol. 5)

Rate this book

I absolutely can NOT get enough of Susan Stoker! Rescuing Kassie is classic with the Damsel In Distress and a hunky Military man that comes to the rescue but I feel like Rescuing Kassie is more special...more sigh-worthy than most books with the whole damsel in distress/hero coming to the rescue routine. This story has enough heart, sweetness, sexiness, suspense, and heart-pumping action to keep me forever coming back for more! Hollywood was EVERYTHING I could of imagined and more! He was super HOT and protective, caring, thoughtful and Kassie was a tough as nails woman who needed someone like Hollywood. And the sparks...my goodness, the sparks between Kassie and Hollywood was a slow building simmer that left breathless, achy, and just had me falling head over heels in LOVE with Hollywood the way he slowed things down and took care of Kassie. Sigh worthy and utterly heart melting!

Susan Stoker writes incredible romantic suspense! I do mean INCREDIBLE! Once you start you find yourself hooked till the very end and when you read Rescuing Kassie, you get a story that is beyond your imaginings and I just fell in love with Miss Stoker's writing like it is the first time I was reading a story by her.

Rescuing Kassie is unforgettable. Amazing. Sweet with protective Delta Force soldiers and a storyline that NEVER gets old. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

It's Live!

**ARC RECEIVED IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **

Another alpha hero from Susan Stoker. This time it's Hollywood- the sexy, handsome and brave Delta Force soldier. Little did he know, the woman he met online wasn't just a random meeting.

I have said it on multiple occasions that I love these alpha heroes. They are take charge and love their damsels in distress. They are faithful and loyal. Even after Hollywood found out about Kassie's reasons for messaging him, he forgave her and realized her reasons were founded (after a day)

Kassie was a really good heroine. She was trying to keep her sister safe after her ex threatened her. She was smart and funny but harbored a lot of guilt over the things she had done to keep her ex off of her back.

-alpha, protective hero
-good heroine who was funny and sweet yet when she was in danger, fought so hard.
-no real pushing away
-not very steamy at all- if you're looking for a lot of steam, this didn't deliver. Don't get me wrong, they finally sleep together (the last 5% of the book) and it was spicy. There was some dirty talk peppered in here and there, but it was lacking in the hotness I like.
-great secondary characters - these guys are great. They are brave and sexy. They are also stand up guys. We don't have to see them being manwhores in the background. That is important to me. I don't like to watch my future heroes being skanks. They are older and mature enough to want a life with one woman.
-I don't know if you would call the ending an epilogue. It was months later but I wanted a look at their future. This gave me some, yet not enough. I know this is a series but the next book in this particular series isn't out until September.

So, it was a great romantic suspence. What kept it from being 5 stars for me was the lack of heat and the lackluster epilogue.

Loved the hero and he was so much more than I thought he would be. He has not been a man-whore for years. I think he was a player after high school and beyond but in the last four years he had only been with two women. Two in four years...not bad for a military man who looked like movie star ...hence the nickname Hollywood.

He was an alpha to a degree but a sweet and loving man with his chosen woman.

More to come.....

3.5 stars - a good read

I enjoyed the mystery/suspense aspect of this story and thought it was very well written. The plot had some unexpected twists and turns, lots of action and a very good pace. The characters were well written and I liked both Kassie and Hollywood and the many other characters from the Delta Force team.

I haven't read any other books from the 'Rescuing' series but was able to follow the plot of this without any issues. It can easily be read as a stand-alone romance.

The chemistry between Kassie and Hollywood was tame, and almost lacklustre at times. This was due to a lack of emotion in the description of the encounters between them -

...he'd moved them to the bed and eaten her to another out-of-this-world orgasm, then let her give him a hand job until he came.

- this left me cold, it wasn't the steamy/romantic connection I wanted to see.

I did like that they didn't jump straight into a sexual relationship, but took time to get to know each other and be sure it was the 'right' thing to do. Kassie and Hollywood were both interesting and believable and I did buy into their relationship.

Overall the story was enjoyable and kept me interested from start to finish. There was a good balance between the suspense and the romance elements. I look forward to reading more books by this author, and following the adventures of other members of the Delta Force.

Having had a discussion about the author with my bestie on Goodreads,i decided to try one of her stories. Rescuing Kassie seemed like a good choice to find out if our findings were true.
Having read it i can safely say, that the suspense is good and the build-up of the story is good.
The romance part falls behind, though. The only time this couple does the dirty between the sheets,is nearly at the end of the story. The only thing they do during,is making out.
Now,don’t get me wrong,i understand why,and it dóes make sense.
The h comes from a very bad relationship with an ex-militairy man,and the H wants to prove to her they’re not áll that bad.
It just feels a bit....like highschool,you know?

The suspense part? That was the real story.
Her ex was still threatening her from prison through a friend of his.
And that friend pulled her little sister into the mix.
A couple of low-life’s that deserved everything that was coming to them.
And in the meantime the h found out there were a lot of good men in the army.
Men that díd do the right thing and protect her and her family.

The 4stars are mainly because the suspense part was well written. The sexy times part, imho, doesn’t even get a 2....
If suspense and a little bit of sweet romance is what you’re looking for, this is the story for you.
Me,not so much.....

Secrets and lies… and love…

I couldn’t wait to dive into another military romance by this author who always manages to find the right balance of testosterone and sweet romance. This is a band of warriors, of comrades and the women who love them. With the ladies matching their partners in strength and loyalty. Each outing has been rife with humour, action and kick-ass emotion and I couldn’t wait for more!

“So why am I writing you back? Because you made me laugh. Out loud.

Online dating. Pretty common-place these days but even the strongest and smartest have to be wary. Hollywood and Kassie click as they text their way into, finally, a face to face meeting.

“He loved Kassie’s sass and, if he was honest, purposely tried to bring it forth.”

And that’s when things turn fubar…. Secrets. Lies. Betrayal. Fear. Anger. Rather than running away from it, however, they both have to decide if what is building between them is worth what is to come…

Did I read this story in one sitting? Yes. Did I laugh loud and say “aww” in frequent intervals? You bet I did! Kassie and Hollywood were hilarious, sexy and delightfully awkward and tentative in their “getting to know you” phase. Maybe these two – all the characters in the Delta Force family – resonate with me so well because they are so real. They aren’t perfect. They have hang ups and triggers, buttons – when pushed – making them react with knee-jerk in-precision. But their characters are strong and unwavering when pushed to do the right thing. It’s true – when things get tough, the tough get tougher and these new lovebirds are going to go through a lot in their anything but boring courtship.

Action and suspense wrapped in outstanding romance, this story reminds me again why this author is on my “insta-click” list! -Diane, 4.5 stars

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 16, 2017

Graham "Hollywood" Caverly feels the chemistry with Kassie Anderson in the emails they've been exchanging through a dating site. When they finally meet in person, and that online chemistry proves to have real-life sizzle, he knows she's the one. He couldn't be happier when their first date, at an annual Army Ball, goes better than he could have imagined. Until Kassie drops a bomb.

Kassie doesn't want to approach Hollywood on the dating site, but threats to her family leave her no other choice. She definitely doesn't want to fall for the man. But fall she does. Hard. After she admits the ruse--and after some understandable anger on both their parts--Kassie wonders if, in Hollywood's arms, a happy future is within her grasp.

But her past always finds her, and in Kassie's case, that's a dangerous proposition--because she's connected to an old enemy of Hollywood's Delta Force team. Very intimately connected... And it will take Hollywood, his Delta brothers, and even some outside help to do what should have been done the first time--eliminate the threat once and for all.

** Rescuing Kassie is the 5th book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings

••••••••••••

REVIEW: RESCUING KASSIE is the fifth installment in Susan Stoker’s contemporary, adult DELTA FORCE HEROES romantic, suspense series focusing on an elite team of military personnel. This is team member Graham ‘Hollywood’ Caverly, and department store clerk Kassie Anderson’s story line. RESCUING KASSIE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary although I recommend reading the series in order as some of the events of the current story line are connected to the events of Marrying Emily. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s Badge of Honor series.

Told from several third person perspectives including Kassie and Hollywood RESCUING KASSIE follows the building relationship between Delta Force officer Graham ‘Hollywood’ Caverly and department store clerk Kassie Anderson. For weeks Kassie and Hollywood have been communicating via a dating website but little does Hollywood know that Kassie is being threatened, and Hollywood and his Delta Force soldiers are targeted in a game of revenge. What ensues is the set up and take down of the people targeting our story line heroine, and Hollywood’s quick jump to love and a happily ever after.

RESCUING KASSIE picks up several weeks after the events of MARRYING EMILY and in this there is some background information that is revealed throughout the story. Kassie’s ex boyfriend has destroyed her confidence and trust in the military machine, and with it the threats from a familiar source. Hollywood knows that to end the threats to his team, and the woman he loves, Kassie will remain part of the game.

The relationship between Kassie and Hollywood is quick to build but initially suffers when Kassie reveals the truth behind her introduction to our leading hero. The sexual relationship is slower to build as Hollywood takes his time getting to know the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are limited and mostly fade to black but there are a number of scenes of sexual exploration and play that are intimate, erotic and seductive.

There are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including Hollywood’s Delta Force teammates: Rayne and Ghost, Emily and Fletch, as well as Emily’s daughter Annie, Harley and Coach, and Dane ‘Fish’ Munroe whose story is next in Rescuing Bryn. Several characters from the author’s Blade of Honor series cross over for familiarity. The requisite evil is two-fold as our heroine struggles with the threats against herself and her family.

The world building looks at the friendships and camaraderie, lives and loves of the elite Delta Force team-a blacker than black ops special unit who are but ghosts in the wind.

RESCUING KASSIE is an amazing story of suspense, romance, revenge and betrayal. The premise is engaging, energetic and moving; the characters are colorful, spirited and dynamic; the romance is passionate and emotional. Susan Stoker’s creative story lines pull the reader into a sexy world of military heroes and the women they love.

I love all things Susan Stoker and I'm so happy to say she still hasn't let me down. Rescuing Kassie was a fun twist in that Hollywood (the sexiest of the sexiest in this Delta Force Team) meets a girl online as he's tired of women showing interest in him for his looks only. He knows he has a lot to offer a woman yet he just seems to attract that shallow.

Kassie was awesome. I really enjoyed her character. And I'm so glad she told Hollywood about her secret right away rather than dragging it on. All I kept thinking as she was dancing with him was "don't let this book go the way of a long time secret that blows up only to be resolved later." It blew up but not because of lies and secrets. It was more because of Hollywood reacting badly and it didn't take him long to realize it and make amends. This is exactly why I love Susan Stoker. She knows when it's the right time and where to add the drama. If it's not necessary she doesn't do it.

The romance between Kassie and Hollywood was sweet and sizzling. On their first date you could almost feel their attraction radiating from the Kindle. Well, off to read Book 6.

Actually 4.5 stars. Almost, but not quite a 5 star.

Even in prison, Richard Jacks (the old enemy of the Delta Force Heroes) is making trouble. Now he's got his friends threatening his ex-girlfriend Kassie Anderson and her family, to get her to spy on Delta Force soldier Graham "Hollywood" Caverly.

This would have been a five star book except for one thing -- when Kassie tells Hollywood that she's spying for Jacks, he doesn't listen to how or why. He just gets really angry. The "stupid miscommunication" is one of my least favorite romance novel tropes. Otherwise, this book is fabulous. The characters are interesting and well-written, the plot is well paced and both the action and sex scenes are compelling. Overall, it's a great book.

Rescuing Kassie is the book I have been waiting for because Stoker has given us lots of little teasers! Kassie's abusive ex, Jacks, is well known to the team for kidnapping Emily and Annie. However, even from prison, he is still trying to torment the Delta Force team he blames for everything. He threatens his ex into doing whatever he says in order to get revenge. I was glad that Kassie comes clean to Hollywood very early. I was afraid the story would center around her keeping the secret and him eventually finding out after they had been together for awhile. That isn't the route Stoker takes and I am glad for it.

Kassie continues to be threatened by Jacks' friend, Dean. She has to feed him intel about the Delta Force team or else he will kidnap her sister. Kassie struggles to really believe in the attraction between Hollywood and herself based on the fact it all started as a lie. She can't understand how he can trust her so quickly. Honestly, her doubt actually was the most believable part for me. You all know I don't mind insta-love at all. But, I do get annoyed with the constant flowery professions of undying love on every page. Hollywood loves a good speech. While I get that he does this to convince Kassie he is for real, I found myself rolling my eyes a few times because it was just too much for me.

Props to Stoker for using some kickass words: douchecanoe (you all know this is my favorite), douchenugget, and buttmunch (seriously-why don't people use this more?!?). I also loved getting more of Annie, who is always a hoot. While sometimes the plot felt slow because of Hollywoods monologues of love, overall the story was great. I liked the reintroduction of Jacks as a plot device and Kassie was a great heroine. It was easy to see why she initially fell for Jacks and that helped make her such a relatable character.

Revenge, blackmail, and true love abound in Rescuing Kassie! Susan Stoker never fails to make me swoon for her hot military men!

POV: 3rd
Tears: no
Trope: revenge, crazy ex
Triggers: none
Series/Standalone: stand alone within an interconnected series (it would be helpful to have read rescuing Emily in order to understand the whole issue with Jacks)
Cliffhanger:
HEA:

Brighter than the Sun by Maya Banks, Out of the Ashes by RC Boldt, The Enforcer by Helenkay Dimon...then you will probably like Rescuing Kassie!

I have been looking forward to this one every since the author shared a preview in a newsletter. I was glad that I read it as it allowed me to feel sorry for Kassie from the start. I hated that she was forced to "play" Hollywood as she was a good person in a bad situation. I knew that Hollywood wouldn't react well to things once he realized what was going on, so when he blew up I expected it, but hated that Hollywood wouldn't give Kassie a chance to explain and cut her to the core with his words.

Of course being that this is fiction the truth came out quickly and Hollywood learned the real truth and felt like crap about his reaction to Kassie, then quickly moved into fix it mode. Kassie being suspicious took the help, because she really needed it. Along the way they were able to fall for each other as they got to know the real person. I loved seeing Kassie find friends again, of her seeing that Army wasn't what her ex showed her.

Things happened about how I thought with the ex coming after her. Glad that Hollywood had a crew that could take care of things, to go after the bad guy and save the girl.

The ending had me smiling, loved how Hollywood told Kassie how their life would go in the future and then proceeded to give her that vision.

I loved this book. Kassie is definitely a lady who can stand up for herself. I do love a strong heroine and Kassie is it.

Hollywood was an amazing hero. He was not perfect and he blew up at her in one scene but did not hesitate to apologize when he saw his error.

There was the right amount of heat and passion between the characters and there is a definite lack of sex scenes. They don't happen until the latter end of the book at almost the end but it was building up to them the whole book. The suspense was perfect even though you know who the baddie is the whole time and how it will end.

I liked Rescuing Kassie, Hollywood was a great character. Not enough to knock Ghost from my #1 spot, but I liked him. Kassie was a good character too. I really enjoyed almost all of the story, with the exception of how Rayne has been acting. She’s becoming annoying, even as a side character, which is a shame because I really liked her.

Especially early in the story, it was hard to like Kassie because she seemed like such a pushover. But she got stronger as the story progressed, minus some moments of epic stupidity. Hollywood was a very likeable character but he was so fluent with declarations of love that he was unbelievable. Despite this, it’s all a fantasy, right? So, a fun read. I read the ebook. 4/5

Graham "Hollywood" Caverly & Kassie Anderson.

Hollywood meets a girl on a dating app and they hit it off. He’s enjoying the novelty of getting to know a woman without her being all about his “Hollywood” movie star level good looks. He invites her to the Military Ball as a first date. She’s nervous as hell about some of the military traditions she’s expecting, but Hollywood is able to calm her down after each freak out. He’s already feeling overprotective about her being abused like that, and feeling genuine interest in her, when Kassie comes clean. She was the girlfriend of the crazy dude who abused Fletch’s wife Emily.

Feel for Kassie, who was the girlfriend of a military man who came back from war psychologically damaged. She doesn't want to continue to help him and his freaky friends. She’s trapped in a situation beyond her control. And like when they threatened Emily’s daughter, the threat here is to Kassie’s high school aged sister.

WOW! What a great book, and a fantastic addition to the series. I couldn't put it down. I think this was my favorite yet! (Although I think I say that about all of Susan Stoker's books.) As with all her books, a lot of action, a lot of romance, and what I consider APPROPRIATE sex scenes.... in that there is an actual plot to the book and it's not just a lot of sex and nothing else. LOVE this book!!
