I had sworn to her that I would find her again... No matter what.
I would fix the mistakes that I had made and bring her home…

The Aldawi Empire is in chaos, with their enemies approaching from all borders. And none of that matters to me.

Unknown enemies have forced my hand into sending her away to save her life. And now that I have survived, I will do what I do best--hunt.

It has taken me eight years to find my master’s Nova, but now I am not searching for her on his behalf. This is my own personal mission and I will not let others interfere with my quest.

Selena will always be my prey. And when I find her, I will make sure she remembers what I said before I had sent her away.

I refuse to be a failure.

Failure is the fourth book in a space fantasy alien romance series with steamy scenes between the human heroine and her very alien heroes. This is the fourth book in a series that’s meant to be read in order.

I really liked this installment in the series. It was finally Kaede and Selena's time to grow. I had put off reading this one because I knew Selena was once again in a kidnapped type situation and if I am being honest, when I am reading a series, I prefer all the conflicts to happen in the beginning of the series, however, it worked for this story. I enjoyed the new additions to the story, and I might go back and read StarPyre to see how Tori and her mates first met since it seems like they are going to be important going forward.

I am conflicted about the two new additions, I am not a fan of Zyrel at the moment but I am hoping that will change, and I have no idea what Ryzen purpose is in the story right now but I am curious to find out.

A pretty good story.

*Squeeeeeeee* I LOVED IT!!!!! Kaede *sigh*

This book... Stars, this book just hit the right spot. I read it in one go and was devastated by the book ending, so now I'm dealing with a good old bookhangover.

Selena has been kidnapped and Kaede is in hot pursuit through the galaxy and beyond. Everyone is working overtime to get her home to her bond mates before they die.

We also meet some characters from a previous book by the authors and I absolutely loved seeing them again. Oh and the time Selena and Kaede seeds together is explosive. Finally Kaede gets his time in the spotlight. This book was absolutely amazing!!!

Unfortunately, the title provides a clue. Other than the opening scenes, and the consummation of the next best harem mate, this story is just full of words. Descriptions, internal monologs, soliloquies, just words and more words with little action or advancement.

This could be transitional, and the next stories might be great, but I'm going to take a pause now.

Male on a mission

Kaede has to redeem himself. He needs to redeem himself. As 1 male he cou not protect both his prince, his prince's Nova, and her 2 primaries from the former sovereign. Now Selena is lost in space, her primaries are wounded and fading in stasis and his prince, now sovereign, is trapped with the throne he never wanted but had to take to save them all. That leaves him and his blood tracking abilities to find her. Somehow.

Selena wakes up somewhere new and in pain. She thought this was over after her rescue aboard Destiny. Xenak managed, through a series of events involving double crossing mercenaries, to do as he said- grab her. But, unlike others who want her for the genetics that enhance her, he only wants his brother back. The problem is, while he is the better brother, she's weak and tired, lost, missing her clan, and has absolutely no clue how to bring him back. But, if she doesn't, she may never get home, losing the males depending on her and leaving her cubs orphans.

Spoilers ahead.
Ack. This was powerful. And a crossover. Connection? If you haven't read Starpyre, you should. You don't have to, but this book reintroduces characters from it, and it makes it better remembering their story. Selena wakes up to the unknown, but a familiar face. Sort of. The face is familiar, but everything else is not who she thought it was. And then there's the effects of the gem that Kaede saved her with. And also, the crossover/connection for readers. And, well, no huge spoilers, but she manages to contact someone important to her, who has until now, managed to keep his distance. But, circumstances being what they are, he's not going to miss out on being part of her constellation again. He's coming for his star and woe to anyone who stands in his way, even downtrodden refugees. The worst part, is after the hope of rescue, he has a long way to get her home. How's he going to either explain what's going on on Destima and her panic and wallow that time, or manage to dodge and distract her till they get there? This one ran the gauntlet, too. From the pain of awakening to unfamiliar spaces and people, to friendships, to someone wanting to come home with her, to the fun of calming Kaede down, to...well, the realization she comes to right as the book closes. Yes, it's a cliffhanger, but the best kind. Don't let it deter you.

I appreciated there was more action in this book, but I can't say that I was emotionally invested in any of the characters and am continuing with the series out of pure curiosity. There was a lot more telling than showing in this book and made it hard for me to care about any of the relationships or the FMC Selena's captive situation. I also thought it was incredibly silly to expect Selene to be an effective queen or leader by any stretch of belief when she escaped a lab less than 6 months ago. She seemed much too put together for someone that was tortured for 8+ years since she came in being from an artificial womb.

Kaede started acting less of an immature asshole in this book, but I can't say I thought his aggression was attractive to me at all. I wasn't terribly enthusiastic by yet another random alien pickup to Selena's harem, and the whole situation with the trapped commander Ryzen was weird - I couldn't decide if he was supposed to end up being a potential harem member as well.

I am reading the next book since they weren't super hard to read, but I can't say I would ever pick this up for a re-read and probably won't follow along for an upcoming release in the series if I don't find the next book super engaging.

By now I am no more surprised when author creates a conflict only to leave readers wanting for more action and bigger blow out resolution. Inconsistencies are common in these series. Lets remember how scared Selena was after mental attacks, how she nearly chocked to death during the first one and was tortured by recreation of Yaarkins experimenting on her, as well as being hurt by her mates. Then second attack left her bleeding. Selena was terrified. So it makes sense to just slap the offender when coming face to face, turn her back on him and huff. And only mention his audacity to break her shields and kidnap her. No reminder that he nearly killed her several times. Even Cosmic soul had no problem about it, even though he did apologise because Tory said so. Selenas actions and reactions don't make sense and neither does actions and reactions of other characters. Kaede should have just wiped then all from existence and move on.
Now, about Kaede, finally we got the book of him mating Selena, despite my inability to understand why would he want her. He is the most sensible character of Selenas clan . He deserved this book. Well, he deserved a better mate too, but....what can we do, I guess we can't replace Selena with someone better.
And as always, most of the book is sex scenes, relationship talk and author reminding reader how we should feel about everyone in the book.

The mate I've been waiting for...and so much more.

Well we were warned that Selena was going to collect mates throughout the story but this mate, #6 is the one I've been waiting for with bated breath. Kaede finally made it into mix!!!

To backtrack - as we all know Selene cannot for the life of her just get her HEA and the peace she so desires. Being captured once again puts her in a precarious situation. She ends up bowing to her captor's demand in order to get home since she knows she's been gone too long from her mates. Waking up a captive doesn't quite give her time to think about what happened to her but she does get some serious surprises. Vowels is a positive one - while weird it's beneficial to Selene and I think will keep her more protected in the future. Then there's the snake guy. Not sure how that's going to work out but guess we'll have to wait and see. Then there's the guy she saved and the whole reason she was captured. I have to wonder what role he'll end up playing. He's definitely curious about Selena but I'm not sure if there's any romantic interest there since he mentioned his kind don't have mates, but she was his star so ??? So many questions!

Anyway I was so glad about the Kaede deal but of course in true Ms. Waltz fashion we are left with a cliffhanger. I also loved the Star Pyre crossover! What's going on with Selene's other mates? Did they make it? How are her kids? What happens now? Guess I'll have to patiently wait for the next book....

Kaede impregnated me 😅
✨Such an awesome read!!! It pick ups right after the events of Develop (book three). Its my favorite so far! i think the characters have grown so much. We also meet new characters; others aliens and humans who have different spin-offs in the same universe previously and now complete the inner circle. Its amazing how everything is falling into place. This one, the spotlight was all on Kaede! i was so happy because i was still struggling with him and wow! just wow! he swoon me so hard but kept it real! i love how he doesn’t sugarcoat anything!! I laugh, i tear up a bit but mostly laugh! the chemistry is off the charts! and those sexy scenes will have you sighing and swooning 💚💫 the stars were definitely aligned for this one!!! ✨

3,5 stars for me
I liked this one! Selena and Kaede finally established a relationship they should have started two books ago ;)
Selena was badly wounded and kidnapped by the asshole that was mentally assaulting her. Thankfully he didn't turn out to be her another fated mate, but his newly healed twin brother was much too interested in Selena for a guy who claimed that their kind doesn't have mates. But of course there was a guy that claimed that she was his fated mate, so there was that ;) he seemed nice, but a bit too twitchy in Kaede's presence, so just like our assassin I grew suspicious of him too. Tori and her fairies were cute, I liked them!
If I find out in the next one that any of Selena's Wudox and Ulax mates died I'll be pissed ;)

Not book hungover like I expected...

This book was good. We got to see the FMC connect with new friends, a possible mate, Kaede, and we know she makes it home. Thats about it. The main reason I read on was because I wanted to see how her relationship is affected when reunited with her mates. This book never makes it that far and its very disappointing. Don’t know if I want to continue...we’ll just see what happens when I receive the May notice that the next book has been release.

No! I need Reboot!

Ohh I knew it! I mean I didn’t want it to happen, but I knew that was going to happen. Ohhh I loved this book! Jade Waltz did not disappoint! Everything was perfect, I’m trying to figure out what Ryzen is up to. He just seems suspicious. But interested in this new guy Zyxel. Can’t wait for more in the next book to see. Loved where things went with Kaede and Selena. The next book is looking to be interesting. So excited! Bring on Reboot!

Failure

Well we know Kaede is no failure 😊. I really loved how Selena and Kaede came together and with such an intriguing twist. I really can't wait to read the next book in this series. I would highly recommend this book and this series. The world building was absolutely awesome and adding Tori and her males from Starpyre is just so cool. I really truly can't wait for the next.

Wow …

Really hard to put in words how extreme this story is. So glad she and my favorite figure their sh*t out. That’s all the hint I will give out. Other than another steamy addition to Project Adapt. Can’t wait to read the next but the excruciating wait times in between each one is nearly murder.

Project: Adapt - Failure

Selena is once again thrown into something dangerous and life changing. Being kidnapped and forced from her mates, can she stay alive long enough to save her clan? Kaede, her bodyguard came for her and is returning Selena to her clan mates but will it be on time? Highly recommend this book and series.

Incomplete failure

Her clan summoned by Zirene's father Selena takes precautionary steps and takes only 2 nest mates with her. Kidnapped by thugs hired by both her father in law and Xenak she is first tortured and nearly killed before sort of rescued only to be transported to another galaxy nearly losing her nest mates threads. Politics and other actions continue.

Boring

The most boring book of the series so far. Overuse of “ishing frax”. Hate the new snake man character. I guess this book was needed to bridge a gap to more exciting stuff but it’s kind of ridiculous all Selena has been through in only a few months. Just meh.

Wow

Wow just wow. I have no idea what will happen but this book did tie a few things up. I’m glad she finally has another mate. I’m also glad that she fixed the other issue. There are so many things going on I didn’t realize that she was so strong.

Finally

Finally, Selena and Keade become more then friends. It was about time they both stopped pushing the other Away or ignoring their feelings of self doubt and duty.
You'll have to read to find out how it happens. BTW, its painfully slow.

I look forward to the nerve book.
