Rate this book
We have never had a president like Donald Trump. Some say he is our best president ever. Others say he is the absolute worst. Some look to him as a savior figure, while others compare him to the antichrist. Some say that, as Christians, we must support this pro-life, pro-family, pro-Christian president. Others say that by standing with him, we have destroyed our Christian witness. How do we sort this out? Did God specially raise up Donald Trump to be president? Are Christians called to vote for him, or should they vote him out of office? In this unique book, based on his wide-ranging reading and research, Dr. Michael Brown presents both the pro-Trump and anti-Trump positions, laying out the challenges we must face if we are to pass the Trump Test.

In Evangelicals at the Crossroads, Michael L. Brown reminds me of the guy who sat on his own hands and rocked from side to side: he was on the one hand then on the other hand.
Toward the end of the first chapter, Brown quotes Peter Wehner at length. Wehner is an unwavering public Christian who I have heard calmly say that a man with Trump's actions could not possibly represent the Gospel. On the next page he quotes Robert Jeffress who holds rallies for Trump in his Church with patriotic music and flags followed by fireworks displays. Brown quotes these two men as having an equally valid point of view.
Which to me felt like when CNN put an immunologist and Jenny McCarthy, an anti-vaxx celebrity, next to each other as if medical school and nude modeling gave each an equal voice on vaccination.
I looked at Brown's long list of books and it screamed "propaganda."
I deeply distrust his method of presenting opinions without context because his thesis is that there are good people on both sides of the debate. I find that sort of populist equivalency false and repellent.

A wise plea to Christians Regarding the 2020 Presidential Election

Fluff abounds. Opinions, founded and unfounded proliferate. Most adult United States citizens hold deep convictions regarding which political party’s candidate is needed for our country to become what we desire. The level of verbosity and incivility is wearying. Into the milieu comes a book of wisdom and honest analysis that is targeted to Christ followers. Others could read it and would benefit. First things are kept as first things. Incivility between Christ followers is addressed head on.

While this book is an important read it is not a surface discussion. Whether your political leanings are blue or red or colorless Michael’s arguments are timely and appropriate.
