Glad I Exist

Rate this book
A work of art as well as poetry, Glad I Exist is a surrealist dreamscape of love, resilience and patience. Dive into the dreams inspired by the artwork of a child who is learning how to handle emotions- both the good and the bad. In each dream, a parade of shapeshifting friends guide her through joy, despair and “I breathe in the smell of the sea and the mist, I’m sad that I’m sad but I’m glad I exist.” When she wakes up, she sees all her artwork on her bedroom walls. It stands as a reminder that through art, we manifest our dreams. Author and artist Brianna Klassen uses techniques of photo collage and painting to illustrate how hope can thrive in times of social isolation. Written during the COVID19 crisis, this book was made as a gift of strength and connection to people of all ages, everywhere in the world.

A richly illustrated book that touches on and guides the reader through themes that people struggle with as they come of age.

The beauty of the illustration and the accompanying poetry gave me goosebumps and did manage to extract a tear or two.

I think if I read this as a child, I would be a very very different person today.

Parents: If you want your children growing up with a healthy emotional foundation, this is the book for them!
