An imaginative mystery written especially for young adults, A Skip in Time begins in April 2012 in Auckland, New Zealand, when Martyn Brooks wakes up to find himself in an unfamiliar world. The 12-year-old awakens in the same bedroom he’s always lived in, but everything is different, and all his belongings are missing.
A strange woman opens Martyn’s door and tells him to get ready for school. “If you’re not up, dressed and ready for school inside two minutes, Martyn James, I’ll be telling your father. And you know just what sort of mood he’ll be in, after you breaking the kitchen window last Saturday.”
But Martyn didn’t break a window last Saturday. He also puzzles over having a school uniform that is completely different, and learning that he has a younger brother and sister. His eventual bus trip to school, however, takes him down unfamiliar streets, and when he glances at a newspaper, he sees the date of April 13, 1962, 50 years in the past!
Why has Martyn been transported back a half century? Will he be able to get back to his own time? It turns out a 50-year-old mystery needs solving, and Martyn is just the boy to solve it!
This is the tenth book by Morgan Bruce of Auckland, New Zealand. A retired music teacher, music plays a large part in his writing. “The house where Martyn lives is my old house. I was able to go back and see how it is now.”
