Maureen Mary was born on 1945 at Port Macquarie, a popular seaside town on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, and is the youngest of four children. Her sister was the novelist Wendy Brennan (Emma Darcy). Her father was a country school teacher and brilliant sportsman. Her mother was a talented dressmaker. When Miranda was ten, her father was transferred to Gosford, another coastal town in the countryside, much closer to Sydney. After leaving her convent school, she briefly studied the cello before moving to Sydney, where she embraced the emerging world of computers. Her career as a programmer ended after she married, had three daughters and bought a small acreage in a semi-rural community. Following this, she attempted greyhound training, as well as horse and goat breeding, but was left dissatisfied.

Miranda yearned to find a creative career from which she could earn money. When her sister suggested writing romances, it seemed like a good idea. She could do it at home, and it might even be fun! It took a decade of trial and error before her first romance, After the Affair, was accepted and published. At that time, Miranda, her husband Tony, and her three daughters had moved back to the Central Coast, where they could enjoy the sun and the surf lifestyle once again. Not long into her writing career, Miranda committed herself to writing a six-book series entitled, The Hearts of Fire, with a deadline of just nine short months. Bravely, her husband left his executive position to stay home and support Miranda’s writing career. He learned to cook and to clean, two invaluable household skills. Numerous successful stories followed, each embodying Miranda’s trademark style: pacy and sexy rhythms; passionate, real-life characters; and enduring, memorable story lines. She has one credo when writing romances: Don’t bore the reader! Millions of fans world-wide agree she never does.

Miranda was the sister of the late author, Emma Darcy.

The heroine, Ruby, is 30 yrs old yet her behavior and introspections are of a hormonal teenager. She has no education and zero job prospects and when, by sheer luck, she gets hired as a housekeeper, turns into an entitled, rude and recalcitrant employee.

The hero, Sebastian, isn't much better either. 40 yrs old, rich, entitled and lecherous. Truly a pair made in harlequin-heaven and if this were real life, they'd be divorced in 10 yrs.

Ruby the heroine accepts a live-in housekeeper position for a sexy widower tycoon. Sebastian has lost his wife and he is now a workaholic and emotionally unavailable. However he can't resist Ruby. They become secret lovers and they can't help falling in love.

Great love story. I loved the characters, the sizzling chemistry and the sexual tension. Miranda Lee is a masterful storyteller. We also got a HEA with their twins which was sweet!

Safety: sadly no virgins here. Both hero and heroine are experienced. No cheating. No other man or other woman drama though hero is jealous of his best friend when he thinks Ruby likes him.

I was shocked to read in the Editor’s message that this is Miranda Lee’s final book for Harlequin Presents. I have read EVERY single Harlequin she’s ever written, many dozens of times! So this is very bittersweet news.

The good news for me is a personal library (and Kindle) full of her stories that I can re-read over and over!

I wish I could personally thank Miranda Lee for the countless hours of joy her stories have brought into my life. Some of the characters were so vividly brought to life, I could name them as if they were old friends.

I can only wish and hope that she knows how much her writing has meant to longtime readers like me. I wish her much happiness and good health in the future.

I read this book with a touch of sadness... because I hate to think of this journey coming to an end. Miranda Lee has been one of my top go-to HP authors for so many decades. It hurts to say goodbye. Yet I’m also filled with the most sincere gratitude.

As far as a review of this book... unfortunately, not one of my favorites by her. The h, Ruby, came across as a snippy employee in her dealings with her boss, the Hero. Her demeanor toward him was often rude for an employee, especially for someone who was hired with no professional qualifications. Her hostility level was more like a long-suffering servant than a housekeeper of a week or so! She thought pretty highly of herself... and that made her unlikeable at times. (The difference between self confidence and arrogance.)

The H was moody and off-on in his treatment of her. He had moments of unlikeability too, but he had the right to want a peaceful, non-hostile atmosphere in his own home, and she often had an attitude.

The only thing that saved it was their thoughts so you knew what was motivating them and going on behind their moodiness. They were in lust... long-term HEA only if she toned down the OTT expectations.

The best character was probably the secondary one: Zack. Would’ve liked more of him in here. Overall, it had good moments and moments where the attitudes of the h/H spoiled it. Neither really acted their age.

A very nice Epilogue with time jumps lifted this at the end, thank goodness. (Although ending on the h’s career and not the H/h as a couple was an odd choice.)

I still hate to see Miranda Lee move on from HP (and wish this had been a better final effort after so many truly re-readable books).

There's a reason why I totally ignore Miranda Lee now as opposed to when I was a teenager, she writes total crap. DNF, doesn't deserve a single star

The Billionaire’s Cinderella Housekeeper is a sassy, sexy, emotional story between two people who say they don’t want love and marriage in their lives for they don’t trust that emotion one wee bit these days. Yet the sizzling heat flowing off of them each in this story tells a far different tale.

Sebastian’s new temporary housekeeper is certainly not what he expected. This sexy beauty taking a dip in his pool was definitely not what he expected to find when he returned from his business trip. And the instant attraction, or more specific, the lust he felt toward her soon had him running for cover and hiding behind past pain once again. He’d been burned badly with his wife’s death, and the manner in which she’d kept him away while she suffered alone. He’s not about to open himself up to loving, needing anyone again… but he’s not averse to a long-term affair.

Ruby is a fixer. And no matter how hot the attraction is between her and Sebastian, she’s certain she could fix his determination to never love again because she’s more than halfway in love with him right now. But that’s something she’s determined to not let him see. If all he offers is physical, then she’ll take that… until it hurts too much to continue.

This couple is so stubborn that they were bound to fall for each other… and equally bound to try to hide that fact from the other. Watching them fight their way to each other long-term was an emotional, sizzling experience. I liked them. I adored a secondary character, Zach. And was glad that he got his happy ending in this one as well.

The Billionaire’s Cinderella Housekeeper turned out to be a rather bittersweet romance for me. Oh, I enjoyed Ruby and Sebastian’s story but it’s knowing that this is the final book by Miranda Lee that makes this a sad moment for me as a long-time reader of this author. Miranda Lee (pen name) passed away in November of 2021. I’ve enjoyed her varied stories for so many years. She shall be greatly missed by her countless loyal readers.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.

Shame it’s the last one - I have enjoyed many of this author’s books - but sadly this is not her best book by a long stretch. .

There was simply something rather odd about the way Ruby, the heroine, was written.

Despite being 30, her behaviour, thoughts and dialogue frequently came across as more appropriate to a 12-year-old. This would’ve made sense if she had been a protected naive and innocent young woman- but she wasn’t. She was employed as a housekeeper and she kept getting annoyed with the hero because he treated her like a housekeeper and not as a friend.

I just found her a totally unbelievable character and even at the end when she and Sebastian married and she refuses to have a housekeeper I was thinking ‘what?’ He was incredibly rich, she wanted to study to become a social worker and she was pregnant with twins? As for Sebastian, well his friend Zachary was a much more interesting character.

I understand that Miranda Lee is retiring, and this will be her final book. That made it a must read, and it is a terrific story. Thanks, Miranda, for all the books and all the good memories. Enjoy your retirement, so well deserved!
