New York Love Stories #1

Never Got Over You

Rate this book
~ The universe shifts, and our stars realign. ~

I’d sworn off men. And then I met Nick Christiansen.

Technically, I fell for him, literally, the moment I landed in his quarterback-sized arms and looked into those soulful eyes. I blame the rum. Or was it tequila?

Spoiler alert: It was those delectable dimples.

Either way, Nick was stupidly handsome and ridiculously charming. He held me like he cared and listened to me like I mattered. Captivated by great conversation and rock-hard abs, Nick had me reconsidering the “No Men” promise I’d made myself.

I still regret walking away the next day.
~
I can’t stop thinking about the one who got away. But then I run right into Natalie St. James.

She’s still unwittingly gorgeous, if not more so, and as wildly quirky as I remember.

Sidebar: She’s on a date.

What do I expect? For her to still be thinking about me?

I still regret what happens next.

We didn’t get the love story we deserved the first time, then I screwed up our second chance. When the universe shifts and our stars realign, is the third time a charm?

"Shots taken under peer pressure never end well."

I'd say it ended well for this couple, no? 😏 Never Got Over You was the perfect comfort read, both in it's timely nature of my reading and it's featuring of the most swoon worthy, cutest couple. Obviously the cover is stunning, and I can imagine many readers picking this story up based on that feature alone, but this book gave me hope in the perseverance of true love once again. You've heard of second chance romance, but have you heard of third chance? That's exactly what Nick and Natalie find along their journey.

"Whatever happens in the meantime doesn't count, right? It's time unaccounted for."

"Under that definition, technically, we can do whatever we want." Her eyes brighten with the possibility as she looks into mine. "What should we do with this meantime?"

Nick and Natalie have a meet cute moment while both are on separate vacations with their best friend, and after one wonderful night together (that doesn't play out how you think it would), the twosome decide to part ways without exchanging details, knowing that they live on opposite sides of the country, neither wanting a long distance relationship. After 6 weeks apart, Nick flies to New York on family business and happens to run into Natalie while she's on a date with another man. It's fate, right? The pair recognize this as their second chance at an epic romance, and it is utter bliss until Nick makes a mistake that has dire consequences. No spoilers here, but please know that it doesn't involve cheating, as I can understand how that vaguely sounds like it is implying as much.

"Destiny's hand can't be forced."

Truly, this book was a soothing breath of cool, fresh air. Usually insta-love doesn't work for me, but based on the structure of the story, and how the couple still has a good amount of obstacles to overcome over the course of their whirlwind romance, I think this book holds the one exception to that rule. While parts of the story were a bit predictable and you may have to hold your sense of disbelief at the door, if you're looking for a tender, intimate romance to make the real world feel a little less volatile, I can't recommend this book enough.

"I would have found you again one way or another because the truth is, I never got over you."

*Many thanks to Wildfire Marketing for my review copy.

This was my first book by SL Scott and I'm going to be honest, I picked it up a while ago on an Audible sale because I loved the cover! The writing was great and I'll definitely check this author out again. Nick and Natalie's story was cute and romantic with a bit of insta-love. I didn't love the miscommunication at the end and I felt it was dragged out a bit too long, but aside from that I really liked it!

In the middle of reading, Never Got Over You by SL Scott, the unthinkable happened... I had to put my dog down. I was truly devastated and the thought of doing anything, even reading hurt too much. So, one day while sobbing, I knew I needed something. I decided to pick the book back up and for one glorious hour, I was myself again. This book brought me joy. Little by little, I read here there and my heart was once again full of love.

I must thank Susie, her beautiful book and wonderful characters help get me through some very dark days.

Never Got Over You is pure romance! I'm talking butterflies, goosebumps and giddiness. It will restore your faith in love, destiny and soulmates! Insta love DOES HAPPEN. Some people are just made for each other and nothing can keep them apart. Nick & Natalie made me BELIEVE!

BTW: Nick Christiansen is the definition of swoon worthy! He's is everything you could ask for in a book boyfriend and more...
I adore this man. He is beautiful inside and out. As for our girl, Natalie St. James, I have such a girl crush on her. She's the girl next door. The one we can all relate too. The one who has been burned, but still believes in love...
She is all sass and class. Put these two together and they are perfection!!!

It couldn't have been more boring than that! And a book which feels like a torture for the first 50 pages gets a 1 star from me, sorry... Such a shame, the cover picture was so promising - and so was the blurb :(

Oh. My. Heart!!! I just had to give a big sigh soon after finishing this story, it’s just so swoonworthy. So many feels. I found myself savoring this book. This is what all romances should be; sweet, swoony, heartbreaking, beautiful, and all consuming. Natalie and Nick’s story was magical. I got all the happy feels from the very beginning, and I didn't want it to end.

Never Got Over You is a romance filled with all the feels and heart gripping moments. Natalie and Nick were incredible together. Their love and connection was not only instantaneous, it was soul deep, and they complemented each other perfectly. Together, they are electric. Their love is pure and seeing it develop had me swooning. I loved every second of the hurdles they overcame, their individual growth and their truly beautiful love story, even the parts that brought a tear to my eye.

I fell so hard for these characters and I continued to fall throughout their entire journey. Their story was flawlessly written and heartfelt. I am endlessly in love with S.L. Scott's work and her writing always makes me feel. She continues to blow my mind with her phenomenal words and I’ll always be on tenterhooks waiting for more of her stories.

Sweet and sexy

Whether you choose to call this destiny or instalove, there’s no denying that this couple falls for each other in no time at all. Though it takes a few tries to get things right, they’re meant to be together. It’s the kind of light, chemistry-filled romance that feels like a bit of a whirlwind - but mostly a good one. I loved the easy, sweet yet sexy feel and the connection between these two. And while the instalove got to me at times, I enjoyed this one the whole way through.

The story follows Nick and Natalie, two strangers who have a chance encounter one night. They hit it off and feel an instant spark between them, but the timing isn’t right. Not only do they live on different sides of the country, but they barely know anything about each other. But when fate brings them back together a few months later, Nick knows that he’s not letting his girl get away a second time. They may not know each other well, but that doesn’t mean they’re not meant to be.

I’m not a second chance romance girl, but I’ve been meaning to check out this author’s work. So I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it’s really not what I would call a second chance romance at all. Nick and Natalie share one mostly platonic evening together, and it’s only once they separate that they realize how much of an impression they made on each other. I loved the sweetness of this story and all of the romantic vibes - Nick is determined to keep his girl, and that was great to see. Yes, the instalove is a bit much at times. This is 100% love at first sight, and not everyone is going to be okay with that. But I enjoyed this overall and really liked the author’s writing style, so I’ll definitely be checking out more. It’s sexy without being crazy steamy, light without feeling fluffy, and emotional without being angsty.

The cover is eye-catching -- beautiful and stunning – with a book blurb that sells!

They say that “three’s the charm.” But will it work for this couple? Nick and Natalie – hmm both their names begin with “N”-- so could be a good sign. Although I think it’s going to take more than a single letter of the alphabet for these two to make it all the way to happily-ever-after. But the sweetest and cutest meet/greet between Mr. Hottie for the Catch and Miss Drunk on Rum surely counts in the positive column. Throw in an Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday mention and I’m was a goner – and Natalie and Nick, too!

From the beginning, you just know that these two are meant to be. It’s destiny -- one of those written-in-the-stars love stories. Their immediate attraction and the teasing and witty banter is simply off-the-charts – along with the sizzling chemistry, too. I couldn’t stop laughing in the midst of their “bedtime talks.” Their story is lighthearted without being insensitive, romantic without being explicitly sexual and deeply emotional without becoming melodramatic.

But between the starting line and the finish line was messy business. Life gets in the way and brings out the misunderstandings and hardships in this new relationship. And living on opposite sides of the country didn’t make things any easier.

Pages filled with all the good stuff between two dynamic characters in a story of love and life that will warm your heart. I was captivated and charmed.

It was an ok reading without much angst.
They meet accidentally at a party the first time and they spend the night together without having sex though.
She disappeared in the morning and he didn’t know who she was.
Months later they meet again and this time they fall in love. They’ve never forgot the night they met. There’s a big misunderstanding that I thought the heroine was a bit ott, basically the hero’s family and he too, since he was an attorney, bought her father’s business, and he had a heart attack. The heroine didn’t know they were going to buy it, and she thinks he was with her to make things easier.
This was honestly not right.
He never asked her anything and he actually didn’t know she was a relative, but even if he had, she didn’t have any power in her father’s company, so what would have changed?
That part was a bit ott, the heroine acted like a bitch and dumped him, and he followed her and tried to win her back because he was besotted. Beside that part, the book was ok, insta love and insta lust for both.
Celibacy is not very clear, I suppose she was celibate and he was too, he tried to date but never managed to get interested.

This book left me with mixed opinions.
They were a really cute couple with barely any drama throughout the story.
I was jealous of how good they fit together and the way the H treated the h.

But it was wayyy too slow-paced for my liking. I mean for 25% of the book the only thing they did was interact and I felt like they were going on circles with the “topic”.

With all the good reviews out there and I like this author very much, still this book bored me.
This was an insta love case.

I didn't like the heroine.
She was a born rich. She wa independent and experience woman, but she was too bossy and I couldn't put a finger on why her behaviour annoyed me.
Sometimes it felt to me like she was too spoiled, not humbled, knowing it all and too much alpha.
She was definitely too much alpha. But that's me.

The hero was beta. He was such a nice man. I don't think they matched. The chemistry between them was just meh.. and the sex scenes weren't very passionate.
More talking less actions.

And about the talking. OMG so much talking and explaining all the things under the sun.
I fell asleep while she ate his ears off.
I skimmed like my ass on fire.

It was safe because they were gone nuts for each other after the first meeting. Even after five months separation between them.
Insta everything.

Overall I think this book had a lot of wasted potential. Maybe cut 30% of the heroine's talking.

But it's just me among all the five stars reviews.

This was such a sweet and sexy read! Never Got Over You pulled me in to the story and characters immediately as Nick and Natalie literally crash into each other. There are instant sparks between them and it was electric and addicting and I immediately loved them.

Nick is the perfect man. He is gorgeous, has good family values and has such a sweet heart. He had me swooning from beginning to end with his sweet gestures and declarations to Natalie. He feels such a deep connection to her and doesn’t want to question it and just wants to jump in with both feet.

When I read romance I’m usually turned off of the instalove stories. I need connection and time to get to know the characters first but S.L. Scott pulls it off in spades with this one.

Natalie I adored as well. She is successful, smart and sassy. There were brief moments of frustration with her character as what woman doesn’t want to fall head over heels for a man like Nick but she was guarded at times and due to her past I understood it.

Contemporary romance readers you have to pick up this book! It is sweet, adorable, sexy and so worth the read.

Also I have to mention, this gorgeous cover! The sexy couple on the front portray Nick and Natalie perfectly and the deep red colour contrasted against the white background is striking and beautiful.

I'm such a big fan of this author, and between the blurb and how freaking GORGEOUS that cover is, I couldn't wait for this book! This is very much an Insta-love romance, but I wouldn't really call it a second chance-- Nick and Natalie meet while on separate vacations with friends, and share a very platonic, but cute evening. They know nothing can ever come of their attraction since they live on opposite sides of the country, and part without sharing any details on how to contact one another. Six weeks pass and in that time, they both realize just how big of an impression they made on each other. At a complete chance of fate, Nate goes to New York for a business meeting and sees Nat again, and vows that this time he won't let his girl go.

Overall I really liked these two, and I think if I read if a bit earlier in the month I would have given it a higher rating, but it was just *too* fluffy, sweet and cute for my taste right now. Most of it was extremely predictable as well, and this book was very wordy compared to her other novels which distracted me a bit. Overall this is definitely an adorable romance, and if you're in the mood of a truly sweet, low angst love story, this is for you!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.**

Never Got Over You by S.L. Scott was a breath of fresh air for me as it was not the dark and angsty romance I mostly read. It was a hard core love story. Dreamy. Sweet. Heartwarming. So pure in its beauty. This story reminds me of those romantic movies I loved to binge once upon a time.

This story was a prolonged meet cute. Natalie and Nick's paths crossed and separated so many times. But like true love stories, their connection never broke. On first meet, they were strangers who just had a night of deep conversation and fun times. But they had no way to connect with each other later. Second time, they fall in love. But this time they didn't know something is going to break their hearts.

This story was all about cuteness, adorable moments and swoonworthy feels. I loved Nick with his gentleman ways, his wit, his amazing personality and his emotions about Natalie. And Natalie is equally strong minded and sassy. The misunderstanding between them was a bit far fetched and I think Natalie didn't give Nick enough chance to dissolve it. Their chemistry was incredible though. I enjoyed their banter and heat.

If you love to read dreamy and swoony love stories with all the warm feels, Never Got Over You by S.L. Scott is for you.

A fate fueled tale of love and second chances!!

“Hope is only as strong as the heart that wields it.”

A fate fueled tale of love and second chances, this romance story had me believing that everything happens for a reason. Nick and Natalie were a match made in the stars but circumstances and a few other obstacles definitely tried to keep them apart. I loved the way the book started, with a vacation meet cute that had me laughing, Natalie certainly had luck on her side when Nick caught her from completely falling off of a bar top! What she didn’t bargain for was her heart immediately being smitten with the charming man, he had me swooning right from the start as well. One unforgettable night of food, laughter and just first names, neither could forget each other months later, leaving fate the opportunity to intervene.

“I would have found you again one way or another because the truth is, I never got over you.”

I always love when characters in a romance run into each other again after months apart and that spark just ignites again and that is exactly what happens with Nick and Natalie. Nick was such a complete gentleman their first night together, but he definitely didn’t hesitate to show Natalie all the ways he could make her feel good the second time around. Their romance is definitely that insta-love feeling but it worked so well for them and this story, with a few bumps in the road causing some turmoil in their love. Another great summer feel
good romance that was a great escape for me!

Nick and Natalie's story is beautiful, the way they meet, how their chemistry is off the charts, their deep connection. This is a second chance romance where you get a story full of surprises, romantic and sweet scenes, where you will fall in love with the characters and your heart will soar with their story. Prepare yourself for an emotional ride you wouldn't want to finish and yet will give you a smile at the end. It's very emotional and will have lots of twists to keep you reading until the end. It's definitely one of those perfect comfort reads, so star reading and enjoy the journey!

Nick & Natalie meet while both of them were vacationing on Catalina Island. They have a meet cute and end up spending the night together. But by morning, Natalie has left and Nick never expects to see her again. Natalie lives in NYC and Nick works for his family’s company in LA. He goes to NYC for business and runs into Natalie. Neither Natalie nor Nick have forgotten about one another and they believe their second encounter is an act of fate. Nick let Natalie get away once, but he vows never to let her go again.

Never Got Over You by SL Scott is marketed as a second (or third) chance romance. The first 25% of this book is dedicated to Nick & Natalie’s initial night together and it was extremely long-winded (and there wasn’t even a sex scene thrown into that first night). Overall this book dragged for me. It was fine, but it didn’t wow me at all. There wasn’t any angst or tension and I never felt emotionally connected to the couple. The “twist” was predictable, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it didn’t work for me since the rest of the book was so lackluster. I think Nick & Natalie’s romance had a lot of potential, but it fell flat for me. 3/5 stars.

Well that's enough of that.

This has got to be the most boring book I've ever read. I was totally down for it based on the blurb but then I started reading and realized it's nothing more than insta-love\fate bullshit. These two met for one night and then pine for like 4 months before reuniting with stars aligning or whatever.

Just blah

But also I'm gonna sidetrack and talk about that cringy sex scene that came way too early in the story. I'm just gonna say it since no one else is (and it's in like all romance books for some reason) but that's not how oral sex on vagina owning people works. Tongue does not go inside while fingers work outside. Kinda defeats the purpose of what's going on down there.

Ok I'm done now.

S.L Scott writes what I call true swoon worthy romances that could grace the ‘Hallmark Channel’ any day of the week. And right at the top would be 'Never Got Over You'.

Nick and Natalie’s story is not without it’s rocky road and it does take Nick three times to get it right…….but a good romance wouldn’t be worth reading if you didn’t have a slight hiccup.

It was great how S.L Scott set the scene with the scooter at the start of the book and the mention of ‘Roman Holiday’ the classic Audrey Hepburn movie as it stayed in the back of mind throughout for the share romance it symbolises

’Hope is only as strong as the heart that wields it.”

If you believe in soul mates or as Cookie (Nicks mum would say) the stars aligned then no matter what happened Nick and Natalie were destined to be together. They meet when they are both on a weekend break in Catalina getting ready for final’s, a bond was forge as they spend an evening together just as friends - one lives in LA and one NY they part as friends, but you guessed it fate landed Nick in NY months later and they literally bumped into each other! Both Natalie and Nick’s live are wrapped in their families business, Nick a lawyer and trying to prove his worth to his Dad, Natalie not wanting to go into the family business and hoping to convenience her mom and dad to extend her loan on her growing business.

With all the pressure on them it is not going to be easy for these two to capitalise on their second chance and when that bump comes in the road can they both navigate it together!

I am only writing this review because I’m so confused about why the rating is so high? There really isn’t much of a plot, it’s about two people who met on vacation and didn’t do anything together, but had a ton of chemistry. So I guess it’s a “missed opportunity” trope. Both characters were okay, they get along the entire time. Then fast forward they bump into each other again later on and neither one of them had ever moved on because they were so addicted to each other that they couldn’t be with anyone else. 🤷🏼‍♀️ that’s pretty much it.

2 Stars for the cover 🔥

Great way to start off the new year with a great story by S.L. Scott! 5 happy stars for this one!

We meet Natalie, on vacation with her bestie, when this hot guy Nick, saves her from faceplanting in the bar, she thinks she must dreaming! Nicks reaction is somewhat the same. Fate keeps bringing these two together, and their chemistry is off the charts. But living on different coasts brings it's own challenges. Can these two go the distance? Read along and find out!

Cheers to stars realigned.

As we can always expect from this author, this book was so sweet and evoked so many feelings.

Nick and Natalie were a match made in heaven and it seemed the whole universe was determined to make them happen.
They connected so beautifully, their feelings ran deep and it was undeniable they were destined to be together.
But more than that: they made it work to be together.

That doesn't mean their journey was bumpless by any means. On the very opposite, they faced a lot of obstacles that could break them.
They chose to be stronger instead, and it was wonderful.

I honestly don’t know how to rate this book.

The story of Nick and Natalie who met whilst being on holidays with their best friends and end up “connecting” one night, then going on different ways because they didn’t have the other’s contact details... and then... the rest.

It felt too forced for me. There was something missing for me. So many things didn’t make sense, but I can’t put my finger on what it was... I guess I didn’t dislike the book but I didn’t love it either.

Natalie St. James has never gotten over the night where she met Nick in Catalina. The only problem is that she never got a last name or a phone number but he has constantly stayed on her mind since then.
Nick Christianson attends Stanford Law and is following the course set out by his parents but a weekend away in Catalina with his best friend Harrison leads him to the girl of his dreams but he forgot to get a phone number and all he knows is that she lives in New York.
When a chance meeting on the streets of New York brings Natalie and Nick together again will they be able to hold onto the magic from Catalina or will living on different sides of the United States tear them apart? When unknown variables come into play will Nick be able to hold onto Natalie?
This was another amazing book from the author and she writes books that just suck me in and I never want to let go.
Both Natalie and Nick came from well off families which had certain implications regarding their futures. Natalie wanted to start her own company but had taken out a loan which she had to pay back and prove her company was viable. Nick on the other hand had to work for his families company and do what was expected of him. He was the lawyer for the company but didn’t get involved in other things.
I loved Natalie’s friendship with Tatum and how Tatum was almost a voice of reason with her. There were several times where I just wanted to hug Tatum for pushing Natalie when she needed to be pushed. I loved that Natalie wanted to be successful but she still seemed to be losing a little of her joy when it came to her job.
I absolutely loved when Nick and Natalie ran back into each other with “The Chad”. It made me laugh so hard!! I loved how hard Nick wanted to make things work long distance as he knew that Natalie was the one for him.
At a certain point Nick realizes the big picture of everything and how his and Natalies’ lives are already entwined but before he can say anything tragedy strikes and everything is completely blown out of proportion before Nick can explain anything and Nick loses Natalie. I truly admired Nick for not giving up right away and I’m glad that Tatum heard him out.
I loved how Natalie’s dad was able to tell her the truth about everything that went down and how it made Natalie realize what she needed to hear and what she already knew about her own heart.
The end was so awesome and I loved both the coffee shop and revolving door!! My heart fully recovered with those two scenes!!
The very end was awesome and I loved it!!

This book was the absolute perfect read to start the year! Never Got Over You! It was everything I wanted and more. Nick and Natalie had me charmed from page one and their meet-cute was one of the absolute cutest ever! There is no way I couldn’t root for the two of them to make it. Their love was written in the stars and I didn’t want this book to end. It was one of those books that you can’t stop flipping the pages on and found myself stalling because I didn’t want it to end. It was dreamy and wonderful and just writing about these two makes me smile. S.L Scott has a way with words that you just get swept up in and their story is irresistible.

I loved the connection between these two and the way that it was more than just physical, but make no mistake they’re a hundred out of ten on the chemistry scale. Natalie is random and bright; she is happy, independent, and she has a big heart, and I love her. Nick is….Where do I start with him? He’s smug and sexy, but when I say smug, I mean it in the most charming way. He’s book boyfriend material FOR SURE.

These two had me giggling all through the read and there wasn’t a moment when I wasn’t rooting for them. Meant to be, written in the stars, soul mates however you want to put it these two to fit all the molds and I love this book for it.

I loved the side characters, too. Tatum is a brilliant best friend and every girl needs one of those, and their families were both wonderful. It seems so common that families in books are falling apart or distant, but while they weren’t perfect they were supportive and loving and I absolutely loved that they had this support system behind them.

If you are a believer in fate and destiny and nothing in life being a coincidence, then Never Got Over You is a beautiful second-chance romance that has all that and more.

Nick and Natalie fall hard and fast for one another one night at a bar when she trips and falls into his arms... even though they don’t share as much as a kiss the first night they spend together. He lives in LA, she’s a New Yorker, and one night is all they think they will ever have. They each regret the morning after, but destiny intervenes months later when Natalie and Nick literally bump into one another in Manhattan. It’s a moment so magical that it sends them on a whirlwind long-distance romance.
Everything is easy between them. There is such an ease between them, and their rushed relationship doesn’t seem rushed at all.

Until it all blows up spectacularly.

Could the issue have been avoided if there was more talking about details of their lives? Of course. And that bugged me. They are unofficially engaged by the time the shit hits the fan. But I let that go and just went along for the ride, because these two are written in the stars.

So suspend belief and go for the ride, because Nick and Natalie are a special couple. This book is swoony, sweet, sexy, full of family drama and instalove.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Nick and Natalie meet while on vacation in a way that they will never forget. They have an immediate chemistry and connection, but their lives are heading in very different directions so they both agree that no lines will be crossed as it is doubtful their paths will ever cross again.

Destiny had other ideas and brings them back together under the most unlikely of circumstances but this time they decide that walking away isn’t an option. There was no denying the love between them but when they are faced with obstacles it will be tested and only they can decide if what they have is worth fighting for.

Nick was confident and charming while Natalie is feisty and has a huge heart even though love hadn’t always been kind to her. Their interactions are both humorous and hot and the more time they spend together it only becomes clearer that the only place they truly belong is with each other.

Serendipity, fate, written in the stars that's this book to tee. This book had you're emotions flying all over the place but in all the good ways, well apart a certain part but you get my drift. This author always manages to make you feel like you are in the story, you get first hand experiences. So your feelings are at a high.

The banter, laughs and the tiny pinch of angst makes this book a recipe for success. Nick and Natalie were great from the very first meeting. Natalie's cooky ways keeps you laughing and Nick mesmerised. He has his funny moments as well and his swoonworthy actions, make him a draw for her. The misunderstandings and high emotional state in situations in this book, certainly keeps you on your toes, that's for sure. All the characters and situations in this book makes it what it is. They all bring something to the table, yep even Chad (lol).

This book was a great read one that had me engrossed from the beginning. One that I would read again and again. Its not everyday you read a feel good book that's a little different. This book is a huge recommend from me
