Wildfire Lake #2

Going Under

Rate this book
Another sweet & steamy read from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Skye Jordan!

Some women want roses and I love yous. I want hot guys and great sex.

Maybe I've absorbed too much testosterone employed in the male dominated world of mechanics, only, I'm no longer working on a cruise ship with sexy men around every corner. I'm building a business with my two best friends in a small town where reputation is everything.

But it’s only six months before I can take my money and run--straight back to the sea. Only this time I'll have my own sailboat, choose my own destinations, and live by my own rules.

When I meet Dr. Delicious over stitches, we've got instant heat, but he comes with major drawbacks, starting with an affinity for dating and ending with his status as a single dad.

Before I know it, I'm putting together a frilly "dream bed" for Christmas and teaching his oldest to repair a carburetor.

Dr. Delicious is the very definition of commitment, and falling for him is a non-negotiable no way.

Too bad my heart hasn’t gotten that memo.

I’ve been needed for so long, I couldn’t see the difference between need and want. And the idea of having a woman as strong as KT wanting me without needing me feels… surprisingly powerful.

Who doesn't enjoy reading a story that consists of a strong, independent, and confident heroine?

The children are so cute. I loved their relationship with the heroine. It's not a lengthy book and I was never bored.

Both protagonists are remarkable. Even though it's not a lengthy book, the author was able to provide a phenomenal character growth of both protagonists. I also liked how the hero sacrifices towards the end to support the heroine. I never saw a book where the hero leaves everything and completely supports the heroine. Most of the time it's the other way around. Hats off to the author for writing such a unique and cute book.

KT Rivers is a marine engineer working on renovating a marina on Wildfire Lake in California with her two best friends. She reconnecting with Laiyla and Chloe while making sure their project is a success. She works in a male dominated field, and is a tomboy who is strong, confident, independent, and unapologetically herself. She doesn't do dating, relationships, or long term commitments. She prefers to keep things casual, and is brutally direct, and doesn't play games. She goes after what she wants, and that includes a hot ER Dr. she unexpectedly meets over stitches. He's not her usual type, but she finds him irresistible!

Ben Latham is a local doctor and single dad with a lot of responsibility. He's busy trying to keep things together, and lately has lost his sense of self. Then he crosses paths with a gorgeous, seductive woman that's thrilling and terrifying at the same time. She makes him feel impulsive, reckless, and a little crazy, but he really likes her. She's intoxicating, and he's never met a woman like her. He wants to get to know her better, but she makes it clear she doesn't do serious or permanent. Conflicted by her limitations he's in uncharted territory. She doesn't do romance, but he's traditional. They're in different places, and looking for different things, but he can't deny he wants her.

-God, this woman. She makes me want things I was beginning to believe I'd never feel again.

-She seems to have control over a switch inside me I never knew existed.

-I realize I've spent my entire life underestimating the power of a kiss, because Ben's has me aching.

-I'd trade three bad boys for a night in his bed any day of the week.

KT never needs anyone, especially a man, but she soon realizes this one is different. He's the first man to ever make her want more, and she doesn't know what to do with these new feelings. She feels blindsided by their intense connection, and he's breaking all her rules. She doesn't recognize herself anymore as she's no longer disconnected. She never does strings, and suddenly he's made his way to her heart. She's vulnerable and confused. Will she feel trapped and run, or will she embrace her feelings and try to figure out where she fits in?

Going Under (Wildfire Lake, #2) by Skye Jordan is an emotional, sexy, small town, single dad romance full of passion and amazing chemistry. I really enjoyed this story and love this series! I can't wait for Chloe's book up next!

The first 80% was perfect. Witty banter, hot chemistry, and great assembly of characters. I was really enjoying myself until we hit the last four fifths of the book. That’s when shit went from 0 to 100 real quick.

There was a shitload of problems I won't further indulge in but there were two things that had irked my soul and pretty much ruined my near perfect reading experience.

First our home girl KT who I absolutely absolutely loved (at the beginning) was making all these plans to spend time with Ben and his daughters during school holidays to better built the relationship and damn near admitting she had feelings for him, did not nor would have seen their relationship as exclusive and getting all pissy when called out on her bullshit. Plus she had the audacity to say it's not an issue at that time since she didn't plan on sailing until a few months out had me grinding my teeth in frustration. Like girl, say what now? You claimed that you don't have any desire to see anyone else and that you don't sleep around which pretty much contradicts everything that was said from the get-go. So you're just gonna hoe it up in your spare time while sailing the seas while Ben stays put and is expected to remain faithful? Yeah no I wasn't feeling that. Sure I understand her ideals due to her upbringing but bitch please. You're an adult and it's common fucking sense

Second pet peeve. Kat and Ben literally knew each for barely one month before he decided to reroute his entire life *cue the eyeroll* by moving his family (himself and three young daughters under the age of fourteen) from a thirty-eight-hundred-square-foot house with a yard and a pool to a five-hundred-square-foot boat to be with her after experiencing the instant love feels. What the actual fuck? No. No. No! Who the fuck does that? It makes absolutely no sense. It's mind-boggling that he would come to that decision after barely knowing her for one month. Let me say that again. One month. It was too unrealistic for my taste and it just didn’t sit right with me. In all honestly if it was just him I would have given him some leeway but he decided to bring along his daughters. I just fucking can’t.

I'm seriously just blown away by the strong start of this novel to then see it diminish in an instant. Ugh. This could've been a four star read if everything after the 80% mark didn't happen. I'm utterly saddened this took a turn for the worse but as the saying goes, you win some you lose some.

Great second book which lots of angst and HOT sex. This book picks up at the end of the first book, but it is a stand alone so no worries if you didn't read the first one.

Ben and KT had lots of waves, mostly of their own making, to get over. Yes, we find out what her initials stand for, and it's really not the bad. Loved his kids, they were great. Beautiful epilogue.

Now I can't wait to see if Chloe hooks up with her hot cop or someone else.

The second book in the Wildfire Lake series , but can be read as a stand-alone, you don’t really need to have read the first book to enjoy this one. I loved this so much because I loved KT and Ben , I loved how independent KT is and how he adapted to her and also changed his and his girls world, adapted and changed his preconceptions. I just didn’t think Bens reactions as a single dad were realistic at one point, but that’s my only criticism generally. An enjoyable read and lovely change to a typical romance set up

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
KT isn’t your stereotypical woman. She has dreams that reach the wide sea. She’s handy. She prefers it when there’s no commitment. Ben is a doctor. He is a father. He is single. And he’s also not the guy KT usually goes after. But after a night of making Christmas wishes come true, things change and feelings come crashing in.

This is only my second Skye Jordan read. And. Wow. I’m speechless! I connected with the leads right away. This was such an easy and fun read, but it also had its emotional moments that almost had me tearing up. They legit owned my heart! I was entertained by the family dynamics and the cute kids. They were cute and adorable; Ben and KT were, too. Even if cute and adorable isn’t what you’d describe the fierce KT as. I loved both characters, and I identified with KT so much. She was so relatable! Ben was hot, but he also was such a good single dad, doing everything in his power for his girls. Also, let’s not forget to mention that the steam was kinda slow-burn, but when it burned, it burned so hot. By the end of their incredible journey to finding themselves and deciding what they were going to do about their futures together (or apart), I was mesmerized. I loved the epilogue, and I especially respect the author for taking it there. I rarely see this in books. Without wanting to give too much away, as a romance reader, I’ve grown used to certain customs. Jordan went, and she undid all of that. It made me really grateful that I picked this up! I want to read more stories like these.
I recommend this to all the women out there that want to see badass women, strong single dads, and cute families that have been through a lot represented in their books.

Going Under was super sexy and so sweet. The way Kat and Ben meet was cute and you could see the sparks fly immediately. They had amazing banter and I loved how Kat was always there to help out when he needed.

I also loved the fact that Kat immediately bonded with his daughter even before she knew she was his. It made their relationship even more special and I honestly just loved how she was there for the girls and took care of them from the start. It all seemed like fate how she met them and they just all fit so well.

Kat has a lot of reservations when it comes to relationships, she is only looking for a sexy hookup with the hot doctor but Ben wants more. He's not able to resist KT for long but he knows he's in for heartbreak which will be worst because all 3 of his girls adore KT too.

I just love how they were all perfect for each other and fit so well. Ben and his girls gave Kat a family and grounded her and Kat gave them adventure, love and wordly knowledge. They made the perfect family, it was adorable.

Going Under is book two in the Wildfire Lake series and delivers a single dad doctor and a marine mechanic together in a "no strings attached" situation.

KT does not do relationships. She keeps her hook ups discrete and distant. She never hooks up with anyone from town. When she lands herself in the hospital and Dr. Lantham stitches her up, she reconsiders. She knows its a terrible idea, but she is really attracted to him. KT was a bit difficult to warm up to as a character because she is a bit cold and standoffish. Her friends are more bubbly and happy, which makes KT seem even more dour at times. Going Under starts with the story of how the 3 women met, and instantly you understand their deeply bonded friendship.

"Dr. Delicious" as KT dubs him, is a single dad with 3 girls. I mean, how could you not just love him from the start!? His wife passed away from cancer and he moved to the small lake community to be closer to family who could help him with the girls. The girls are just adorable and really bring a sparkle to Going Under. I did like KT's bond with Violet, the oldest. It showed a less gruff exterior for KT.

There is some angst in that KT isn't planning on sticking around town. After she and her friends get their business up and running, she is planning on getting a boat and sailing away (literally). She spends a lot of time trying to keep Ben at a distance and I wanted to shake her. However, I think there is something admirable in not throwing away your goals for a hot guy. She just seemed so stubborn and unwilling to consider a way to compromise. Honestly, I think I was just really tough on KT for some reason.

Going Under will appeal to fans of small town romance and heroines with a hard outer shell.

Once again I am so ready to pack my bags and move to Wildfire Lake! Does anyone know if a real place like this exists???

Going Under picks up where In Too Deep left off. While Ms. Jordan gives us a replay of the prologue from KT's pov, showing how these 3 ladies met, I really do think you'd appreciate this book if you read ITD first.

Now that we've got that out of the way...

I enjoyed KT and Ben's story. I like how self-reliant and independent KT was, and how awesome of a father Ben was (I loved his 3 girls- what a bright spot they were in the book!). At first glance, KT's suggestions of just a "hook-up" seemed like the perfect answer for both of them, but soon things started to change between them, as it inevitably does!
While the romance fell on the side of "insta-love" , I didn't mind that at all. There are times when you just click with someone, no matter how long or how short of a time you may have known them. It was a little surprising coming from KT, when she was so set on continuing on with her life as it had been, once the marina and all was up and running. But when you find yourself a man like Ben, it's probably hard not to rethink everything you thought or believed about yourself!
As much as I liked Ben, and I really did, I also had a major issue with him at one point, which kind of tainted my feelings toward him. And that was hard for me, because I was really loving him. Luckily he was able to work his way back into my good graces!

In the end things wrapped up a little too easily for me. I appreciated where Ms. Jordan went with the characters, but it seemed a bit out of character for Ben. It was sweet, but maybe just a tad too perfect.

I didn’t think anything could top the first book in this series however… Ms. Jordan really hit all the things I love with this story. This time it is about KT – and good luck figuring out what that stands for! – and Going Under helps explain how she became who she is. It also has the “event” that brought the three women together told from KT’s point of view. And it is just as jaw-dropping, for me, as it was in book one. Yes, this is a standalone however it continues to tell the story of Laiyla’s and KT’s and Chloe’s friendship.

We also meet Ben – man, when KT calls him Dr. Dreamy, I can picture that in my head. He is amazing; loved him! To me, he didn’t start out as a strong enough character to stand up to, and with, KT (she has a very strong personality) but that changes pretty quickly; he is perfect for her.

Without going in to too much detail, KT and Ben both have issues to work thru, people and relationships to worry about, but – and it is a BIG but – what I loved was that both characters own up to their issues and feelings and missteps and wants and needs. Great interrelationships with Laiyla and Chloe. Unless you’ve read the first book, you won’t understand when I say: who knew Chloe would be the most grounded of the three? Too funny but the woman hits the nail spot-on every time. Love her. Loved Ben’s family, too. He is a great dad just trying to get thru the days. He really needed a hug.

Love the series, loved Going Under, and can’t wait for Chloe’s story.

I totally read this series out of order starting with book three, thank you Netgalley. What I'll say out of the gate is I don't feel I missed anything significant reading it out of order. After I read Swept Away I knew I needed to read all of their stories and because I love badass women in books I also knew KT was going to be my favorite. Guess what? I was right! Wow this was the book I didn't know I needed. But KT and Ben were amazing. I love KT's confidence, her work ethic and just her overall no holds barred attitude. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't until Ben and his girls enter her life. My favorite part about badass characters is when we get to their vulnerability. And boy when that happened I was about as big of a mess a KT herself was. I needed that cry but her love early on for Ben's girls makes this such a sweet sweet story. I loved their issues and how they figured out a way to make things work. This was such a good read for me.

Going Under by @skyejordanauthor
I just have to say I am loving this author! When I read the first book in this series I was completely blown away how much I got into the story. This is book 2 in the series and it was everything I wanted and more! KT and Ben were explosive. KT is the free spirited woman who goes where the wind takes her. Dr. Ben is the single dad of three who is dealing with the death of his wife and raising his daughters.
This book is sexy and so much fun! If you are looking for a quick, fun, steamy read... download this one today!!

A heart-gripping small town, age-gap romance. Going Under is KT and Ben's story. It's the second book in the Wildfire Lake series but can be read as a standalone. The writing style is easy to follow and expressive and I found myself reading it in one sitting.

KT's straightforward and outgoing personality immediately caught my attention and I was excited to know more about her. She's a strong, independent woman, a marine engineer, who loves adventure and doesn't look to settle down anytime soon. She never stays too long in one place and having a relationship was never part of her plans. But then she meets handsome doctor Ben, who is nothing like the guys she usually hooks up with. He is a single dad, he's outrageously handsome, hardworking and has been out the dating game for some time. There's no denying the attraction between them and acting on it might feel good at the moment but KT's plans for the future don't include a relationship and in the end, someone is bound to get heartbroken.

The story unravels easily, there is a bit of drama but everything resolves quite rapidly. I loved the chemistry between KT and Ben, their banter, the push and pull and all the scorching hot moments that added spice to the story. The way their relationship developed felt genuine. Plus the instant connection between KT and Ben's daughters tugged at my heartstrings. Overall I enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading more from the author.

KT‘s story was so unexpected. After reading In too deep I was so sure that Chloe was next but no it was KT and I‘m not disappointed.

KT is a free spirit. She works on boats and has been sailing almost her whole life. She doesn‘t know any different so staying in a small town for a long time was not something she expected and even less was falling in love in said small town with a single father of three girls.

Ben is new in town. He and his three daugthers just moved to town after dealing with a tragic loss. He‘s a full time dad and doctor. So obviously he doesn‘t have time for anything especially not out carefree heroine.

I really enjoyed the story between them. It was a fast and quick read and I devoured it in one go. KT and Ben are perfect for eachother even though they are pretty different but that doesn‘t get in the way. I also loved the addition of three little ladies who took over KT‘s heart in a storm.

This is the second book in the Wildfire Lake series. In the first book we saw how the three best friends met—Laiyla, Chloe and Kat. This is Kat or KT’s story. I admire Kat as she is brave, secure, and is forthright. She has sailed all over the world, some by herself. And she is an engineer mechanic that mostly works on boats. I could never do the things she does! The one thing that I feel sorry for her is she doesn’t trust and only hooks up with men. Since she is part owner in building the property in Wildfire Lake, she works on the boats there to get them working. But she may have met her match when she hurts herself on Christmas Eve and has to go to the emergency room and meets Ben. The very handsome Ben is the doctor that stitches her up. He and his family may turn Kat’s world upside down. Ben is a good man and father of this three young daughters. His wife died three years ago and he makes sure his daughters are taken care of. I felt bad for Violet as she is the oldest and she takes the death of her mother the hardest and acts up. Kat may not be a mother, but she has such a good rapport with Violet. It was so sweet how Kat fell in love with Ben’s girls. The problem is that Kat doesn’t plan on staying at Wildfire Lake, but wants to sail around the world. How can she have any relationship with Ben or his daughters? There are some scenes that touched my heart. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Wildfire Like #2

Perfect story for me today. Ticked all the boxes by being a feel-good story that put a smile on my face while also steaming up my glasses. Really enjoyed this book!

What I liked:
* KT ”Kat” Rivers: a marine engineer able to fix just about anything. She has a dream to sail the world and a plan to do so soon.
* Dr. Ben Lathan: ER physician, single parent to three young daughters. His focus is on being a good father.
* The way KT and Ben meet and the chemistry between them.
* Ben’s daughters: Violet, Poppy, and Jazz
* Chloe: one of KT’s best friends – seems wise and definitely worthy of having her own HEA story written
* Laiyla and Leo: didn’t hear much about them but as friends of KT’s am sure their story in book one of the series was good, too.
* Jaime: a character that caused a bit of trouble but definitely a good friend to KT
* The relationship between KT and the girls
* All of it really

What I didn’t like:
* Can’t say there was anything that I disliked…it was a great story.

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Cygnet Books for the ARC ~ This is my honest review.

When KT finds herself in Wildfire Lake it is only supposed to be for the short term to help out her friends before she embarks on her next adventure. When she meets Ben in a professional capacity the sparks fly and before she knows it she finds herself enchanted not only with the father but his daughters as well.

After the death of his wife Ben moved to Wildfire Lake so that he and his three daughters can be near his family. When he meets KT she brings life and light back into his life and before too long he can’t picture a future without her and now he just needs to convince her that he and his girls can supply all the adventure she needs.

This is a sweet and sexy story about love and family between two people who realize what they really need in their future are each other.

Going Under by Skye Jordan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Going Under has much to offer. Hidden inside the slow burn of a beautiful romance are many important life lessons. Lessons of love. Lessons of loss. Lessons of hope. Jordan has a way of removing the blinders that tend to get in the way of the more important things. Ben and KT are a reminder that a person is stronger than ever they realize. With laughter, patience and an open heart, we can accomplish anything. All we need is a chance to try. Going Under is a life lesson worth learning.View all my reviews

I loved the first book in this series, and book 2 was equally as enjoyable. It sees mechanic KT getting her heartstrings pulled by 3 adorable little girls and their widowed father Ben, or Dr Delicious, as the 3 best friends have nicknamed him. Still living in her boat in the marina KT is doing her second favourite thing, working on boat engines. Her favourite thing is sailing, travelling the seas and visiting new countries. She is most definitely a free spirit, which is the exact opposite of widow Ben, who has put down roots in a new house with his 3 young daughters. They might be opposite in most ways, but they definitely work together in the bedroom, perfectly. They also share their love of his children, it will they ever be able to reach a happy medium together? What a sweet, angst free read, with wonderful characters and an ending that I could never have predicted. A perfect holiday read. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

The was the sequel to In Too Deep. Not to worry this can be read as a stand-alone. This was a fast and short read for me. I loved KT from the previous book but wasn’t too thrilled with her in this one. She meets a doctor, Ben, who has three daughters. The romance was cute but the epilogue didn’t work for me. I think I loved the first one so much, highly recommend others to read that one, that this one fizzled out for me. I am looking forward to the next book.

A Book to Sail Away With!

KT seemed like such a strong independent character I wondered who could bring out her softer side. Dr Ben and his three girls were just what she needed.

This second book in the Wildfire Lakes series was a good one. Easy read about learning to open yourself up to the unexpected.

I'm loving this new series. This is KT's book and she is a strong, independent woman and lives life to the fullest by working as a marine engineer. She has traveled all over the world and loves finding partners at her discretion. When she meets the hot Doc Ben she decides he is the one for her next sex, no commitment guy. Only problem is he is the father of three daughters and he isn't the hookup type. When they finally come together it is hot. I love how quickly KT falls for his girls. But she in no way ready for a relationship. These two are as opposites as you can get. What is all comes down to, is someone has to change. Can they? Will they?
I really love how each person had to dig deep and figure out what they really wanted from each other. His daughter Violet was on smart cookie and she stole my heart.
This can be read as a standalone, but so much better to read this series in order.

This is the second book of the series and while you don't need to read book 1 to understand what happens in book 2, I highly recommend reading them in order.

KT is a confident, strong, independent woman. She knows what she wants, how she wants it and isn't afraid to go after it. When she sees an attractive new guy in the ER, and he turns out to be her doctor, she doens't let a little thing like ethics get in her way. She lets him know that she's willing to hook up with him if he wants. KT knows that her relationship with her girlfriends is solid and she also sees what she could have, might want and is a little too scared to reach for.

Ben, Violet, Poppy, Jazz are all adjusting to a new normal. While Ben knows that working allows him the ability to provide for his daughters, he also knows that he can't give them all they might need. With the death of his wife, Ben is now the sole provider and when he is home, he wants to wear only his dad hat. But, when he meets KT for the first time, the attraction is unmistakable. However, he has never been a one night stand or hookup guy. He has always had a steady relationship. But, when KT and him continue to meet and he sees how amazing KT is with his daughter, Violet, Ben can't help but start to make plans.

These two have explosive chemistry that jumps off the page. I loved how their relationship developed and even though they both brought baggage wtih them, unpacking it together is what made them so strong. I am really enjoying this series and can't wait for Chloe's story.

This book picks right up where book two ended, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. I am really loving Skye Jordan, this small town age gap is really fun and the book is an easy read. Ben is so sweet and will do anything for those he loves. He’s really determined and ready to work hard to get what he wants, especially KT. Now, KT has such a strong personality and doesn't do relationships. Well, maybe with Ben as the exception. Ben and KT have great chemistry, fun personalities, and really felt genuine even though once things started to move, they moved fast. At times, KT got on my nerves. She was just unwilling to compromise AT ALL which annoyed me since that’s a part of relationships, learning to compromise. There were a few times that I kept saying to myself, “KT stop being so damn stubborn!!” But other than that I really enjoyed this read. I thought it was really easy to read, a great story and has great main and side characters.I am really loving Skye Jordan’s writing and storytelling. It was so easy for me to get sucked right into this book and it was such an effortless read. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a steamy, small town vibe, with a strong and handsome hero and an even stronger heroine that doesn't take crap from anyone.

It is so hard for me to write this review, I loved the first book in this series and the premise of this series is very cool. KT intrigued me in the first book so I was really excited that she would be the heroine in the second book, but unfortunately for me this book fell way short. Going Under was fun and witty and featured characters with a strong attraction giving it a strong start, but it started to fizzle at the 50% mark and went downhill., I get this is fiction but when it becomes so unrealistic that it borders on ridiculous it’s hard to read and I struggled to finish this book. I did, but it was a major struggle.

KT is invested with her two best friends in building a resort on the property left to one of those friends on Wildfire Lake. As a marine mechanic, she is in charge of rebuilding the boats that were left and restoring any boats they purchase. KT is independent, self sufficient, and doesn’t believe in relationships with men. She’s a one and one type of gal but living in this small town has put her sex life on hold until she needs stitches on Christmas Eve and meets Doctor Ben Latham, single father to three young girls.

There is no doubt that Ben and KT have chemistry in spades, but they are in very different places in their lives. He’s also 10 years older than her not that it is an issue. KT was pretty up front that she’s a sex only kind of gal and Ben just isn’t sure he can be that kind of guy. It is mentioned heavily that Ben is a “beta” guy and IMHO if you have to mention it numerous times then he isn’t written very well and honestly I didn’t see him as a beta, I just saw him as a professional single dad who did what he had to do, period.

My issues came that KT began spending time with Violet, Ben’s oldest daughter, and got along great with her. She actually got along great with all three of the girls, yet she didn’t want a relationship with them or Ben all the while she was forming a relationship with them. She and Ben do finally give in to their attraction and of course he’s phenomenal in the sack despite having very little experience other than his late wife and it’s the best it’s ever been for both of them. Keep in mind KT has traveled the world and slept her way around it. Perhaps it was so good for her because she had formed a bond with a guy for once?? Yet that wasn’t every suggested or mentioned.

KT plans to travel the world in a sailboat and has put an expiration date on her time in Wildfire Lake at the end of the summer. She figures out a way to see Ben and the girls while she is traveling but then doesn’t understand when he asks if they will be exclusive. It just seemed ridiculous and self centered for her to expect Ben and three young girls to travel all over the place to meet up with her for holidays and such so they kept in touch and expect Ben to be faithful but she wants her freedom. By this point I was kind of done, but then of course because remember Ben is BETA he decides to uproot his life, his children’s lives and finds a way to be with her always after only ONE month of being together. Sorry, this just did not work for me. Look I think everyone needs to live their life and follow their dream, but as some point when you include others in your life you also have to understand that compromise is part of it. Everything was just tied up way too easily with a sparkly new boat and a big old bow and life is wonderful and yeah…so not buying it.

For me Going Under was a perfect title because this book went under pretty quickly and stayed there on the bottom of the ocean and I have no plans to pull it back up.

Going Under is a steamy, sweet, charming, and slightly angsty small-town contemporary romance that brilliantly flips the traditional character traits/roles of the heroine and hero while exploring what can happen when we meet that someone with whom we connect with so intensely that he or she throws our whole world into a tailspin. The second book in Skye Jordan’s “Wildfire Lake” series explores KT’s first foray into love after years of fun, casual, commitment-free sex.

A free-spirit, tomboy, mechanic who has sailed the world working on cruise ships, KT is used to making her own rules and having her pick of attractive men to get her fill of hot sex. But since she has been in Wildfire Lake with her best friends building their new business, it hasn’t been as easy for her. Her choices are limited, and she has a reputation to consider/protect. At least until business is stable enough for her to invest in a sailboat and get back out on the seas to her first, and only, love—sailing. Ben, a doctor, and father of three daughters, moved to town to be closer to his family and provide more support for his daughters and himself. Raising three daughters—two small girls and a pre-teen, who is going through rough patch—and working a full-time job to provide for them isn’t easy. He loves his job, but nothing in the world as much as he loves his girls for whom he’d sacrifice anything.

For KT it’s lust at first sight when she sees Ben at the ER, so she pursues him even though he’s not her type. Ben, in desperate need of help with his daughter’s bunk bed can’t turn down her offer to help put it together. It takes him a little longer to take her up on her other offer because while she is irresistible, he’s not sure casual sex with her would be enough. While Ben and KT have legitimate conflicts in lifestyles, responsibilities, and dreams, the instant chemistry and connection between them is genuine and powerful—with the unexpected potential for love, something for which neither is prepared.

Skye’s description is vivid and character development is wonderful. Even the love scenes, which are sexy and emotional, contribute to the development of KT and Ben and their relationship. The relationship between KT and Ben’s daughters, especially Violet, who reminds KT of herself, is sweet and just as important to the story and the growth of the character’s as the romance. It softens KT, revealing other sides to her that maybe she is even unaware of herself. But they also awaken parts of Ben and needs that he has been allowing to go unattended while ensuring that all his daughters needs are met. The roles are also reversed somewhat as KT is the independent, more experienced, carefree character who is not looking to be tied down, while Ben is the more emotional one with responsibilities, people who depend on him, insecure about his place in KT’s life.

Going Under allows the hero and heroine to be human but approach a relationship like grown-ups by finding balance. Neither is treated like the bad guy or victim for their choices and each takes responsibility for their own choices and mistakes and that’s refreshing.

We’re back in magical Wildfire Lake! This series has such interesting bones- the background of these three friends who have such serendipitous connections and their journey to Wildfire Lake to revitalize a family business. While this can be read as a standalone, I think it is best read after the first book, which not only explains the prologue of this book but also gives much more depth to relationships in this story.

This is KT’s story- and if age gap, hot single dads, and independent tomboy heroines are your thing- you should check out this story. It’s a fast and light read- focused on one central drama don't the connection of Ben and KT. This definitely has an instalove feel to it- they fall hard and fast. Their chemistry was strong, they open up to each other quickly, and they have a sexy sizzle between them, so that worked for me.

KT is definitely a unique heroine- and I loved that Skye made her so different. She’s more the “man” stereotype. She’s confident in her sexuality, only does one night stands, doesn’t want to be tied down to anything and anyone, and she’s a mechanic, no less. An accident puts her in the path of Dr. Ben- our sexy single dad raising three little girls all on his own. They have a spark, and a chance encounter and ultimate connection between his daughter and KT keep their paths crossing. Ben isn’t sure he can do the casual thing- not with his daughter, and that is not who he is. But their attraction is undeniable, and eventually KT finds herself interested in more than just one night.

I loved learning both of their backstories- and I appreciate how openly Skye has them communicate with each other so honestly and vulnerably. The romance and character connection is quick- and the central tension elevates quickly. I found them both charming and their romance to be both sexy and sweet.

Where this lost me a bit was in the ending. I actually can appreciate that Skye has the man making all the changes for the woman’s dreams, and I appreciate her having a very unconventional HEA. It isn’t really what I wanted for KT and Ben, but that I can get over, but what I struggled with more was that it just didn’t feel like it aligned to who Ben was and also made me think KT didn’t really grow or change at all as a character. It is definitely an interesting idea, and I’m sure some will love where Skye went with the ending even to me it felt a bit unsatisfying.

I’m still loving these friends- it was great to see them supporting each other in this story, and I can’t wait to get our final book- I can already feel some angst coming from our carefree Chloe’s romance.

This is the first book I've read by Skye Jordan. I was lucky enough to receive this book in a giveaway. I've never really been one for straight romance novels, but I figured I should try and change my taste up a bit and this would be a great start.
I found myself pleasantly surprised with how much I actually enjoyed this book.

Who wouldn't enjoy reading about a strong, independent confident woman as one of our main characters?

KT Rivers is a marine engineer, who isn't your stereotypical woman. She doesn't like commitment, and prefers to keep her hookups quick and distant. She loves adventure and wasn't looking to settle down anytime soon. But then she meets a handsome doctor who wouldn't usually fall into the category of being her type. Too pretty He is a single father of three girls. Outrageously handsome, hardworking and has not been in the dating game for some time.
There is no denying the attraction between the two of them. It clicked immediately. Although it might feel good in the moment, it doesn't quite fit within KT's plans for her future.

This story is told rather quickly. With a bit of drama here and there to keep it a bit spicy. But everything is resolved by the end.
I loved the instant chemistry between Ben and KT from the very beginning. The banter the two of them have was quite refreshing and felt very realistic.
The way that their relationship developed felt genuine, but a little rushed. Actually a lot rushed. I'm all for taking chances and trying things out but I also don't know a soul who would change not only their entire lives, but their children's entire lives within a month or two of meeting someone. That part was a little bit too ridiculous for me to grasp. So within the walls of my own head, I elongated the process a little to be able to be happy with continuing to read this book.
That one thing set aside, I really did enjoy this book, it had just the right amount of cheesy lines to realistic lines. That had me smiling and laughing at all the right moments.

I can easily see myself picking up another one of Skye Jordan's books, just bases on how much I enjoyed this one. As well as how quick of a read it was.
