The GEOs #2

The Labs: A YA Dystopian Adventure

Rate this book
She survived the virus and the Acceptance trials. But can she survive the lies. Tylia Coder is the bridge between worlds. Born of the GEOs underground, she’s one of only two known victors of the Acceptance trials – a survival contest that promises to prevent infection from the GM virus that nearly wiped out humanity decades ago. Now with precious antibodies in her blood, she may finally hold the key to finding a cure. Leaving her dark home in the GEOS behind as well as her blossoming relationship with Skylar Two, Tylia is determined to invoke change as she moves up to the Greens – an area in the Labs with floating sky cities, bright lights and lush forestry. But the life she envisioned living here is far from the reality she faces on arrival. Access to information is restricted. Questions she asks are left unanswered. Communication with her family in the GEOS is cut off. And someone’s spreading lies about the Rejs, a group of outlaws living on the surface, who now claim her as one of their own. Worst of all, members of the Farrow family are tormenting those who threaten their way of life. And when Tylia is overheard defending the Rejs, the Farrow’s set their vicious sights on her. To shield herself from yet another “accidental death” in the Labs, she has no choice but to accept a partnership proposal from the only Farrow willing to befriend her, the too-perfect Ben. But Tylia soon realizes she’ll need to act fast if she’s to save not only herself and her loved ones in the Rejs and the GEOs, but what also remains of the human race.

Ramona Finn writes about courageous characters who fight to live in broken, dystopian worlds. She grew up sitting cross-legged on her town's library floor - completely engrossed in science fiction books. It was always the futuristic world or the universe-on-the-brink-of-extinction plot lines that drew her in, but it was the brave characters who chose to fight back that kept her turning the pages.

Her books create deep, intricate worlds with bold characters determined to fight for their survival in their dystopian worlds - with a little help from their friends. And, of course, romance is never out of the question...

Like young-adult dystopian books? Then you're going to love Ramona Finn's "The Glitch" -- set in a futuristic world where an Artificial Intelligence rules, Lib wakes up in a barren land with one thought lodged in her mind: "Find the Glitches".

Right of the bat I am not the target audience but my daughter who is, and I listened to this on a recent road trip. It worked on both our levels and very reminiscent of the hunger games and maze runner which I have watched with various of my teenagers and recently my daughter.

I got frustrated with some of the characters but again I am not the target audience.

No.

I tried. But no. I got 75% through the book and got so irked that I immediately went to Amazon and got a refund, while also refunding the third book, which I'd bought as well.

That was just very unfortunate, because it could have been a really good series, but I honestly couldn't keep reading.

This is book two of The GEO’s series and sees Tylia Coder starting her new life in the Sky Labs, the floating labs in the sky. Far removed from her upbringing in the dark and dangerous GEO’s of the underground. Her wining of the Acceptance trials has meant she has now been immunised against the GM virus, which wiped out most of the world’s population decades ago. The big differences between the lives of those in the GEO’s, the Rej’s or rebels, and the Elites are something that Tylia believes she can make a difference to. She has now moved up in the world and is only one of two people to have succeeded in the Acceptance trials. She hacked herself into the trials to try and save her mother from the ‘cough’, the main symptom of the virus and would have been certain death, without her winning a chance of medicine and a new life for her parents. She was going to miss her boyfriend Skylar Two, who is one of the Rej’s, who live on the surface. But first she will have to figure out how they can overcome the power of the ruling Farrow family, who control and oversee everything.

This will be the only chance for all of them to live a better life. The only Elite she has gotten close to is Ben Farrow, but is he too good to be true, can she really trust him with her plans? He had helped her in the trails, but she wonders what his true reasons for doing so were. The Farrows had promised to find the cure for the virus and provide it for all. But it hasn’t been found yet, or so they say! Without a cure, most of the population has had to live underground and for most, that is all they have ever known. The Greens is the central city of the Sky Labs and where she is now headed. She hopes to learn as much as she can in this new world and environment, ask questions and gain access to data she could only dream of before. But it seems it is not going to be as easy as she imagined, as access to all information is restricted and her questions are never answered.

The Farrows are after anyone who is threatening their way of elite life and this is largely targeted at the Rej’s, as they rebel and want better conditions for all the workers underground and above. A more equal sharing of supplies, medicines and improving work conditions. When Tylia is overheard defending the Rej’s, she is placed directly into the sights of the Farrows and may soon end up as just another accidental death in the Labs. The other survivor of the trials, who is on the journey up to the labs with her, is farmer Kev, a friend of hers as well. The two were the only survivors after hiding themselves away as the EF’s killed off all the other competitors that had made it through the trials. Winners are not a normal part of the trials and there haven’t been any winners for years, because of orders from the ruling family, which has been hidden from the normal working population.

Life in the Greens is nothing like what she expected and the head of the Farrow family has a very different agenda to the one he publicises to one and all. The Rej’s are being blamed for all the acts of resistance and damage that keeps happening to the Elites and their systems, but the real truth of who is behind it, is certainly nothing I would have seen coming! She is being pushed to accept a partnership with Ben Farrow, as apparently her DNA is exactly what his father has been looking for all these years. So many truths about the virus and the conditions those other than the populations of the Sky Labs are being kept in, is about to be discovered by Tylia, using her hacking skills. Whether she can get that information back to those on the surface and underground, or if it will be too high a price to pay, is coming to a conclusion. A great second book in this series and the action has certainly ramped up to a higher level! She has been prophesised to be the one to unite all factions, but to someone, that is an unacceptable outcome and they will do everything they can to stop her. I can’t wait to see what happens next. This novel continues with Tylia and Kev having won the Acceptance and get to live in the Labs with their families. Tylia gets sucked into their world, enjoying the luxuries she did not have living Underground. She gets drawn into their charisma and questions if what Skylar Two told her was even true. She gets the attention of Ben Farrow, which she enjoys for a time. People only see what they want to see and ignore those that do not affect them. Questions are dangerous and people disappear. People are brainwashed, believing only the information they are told, even if it is lies. Tylia begins to question things at times, but then believes she is overthinking and was mislead, until she discovers that she is being told half-truths and lies. Now Tylia needs to decide where she stands, for her choice will decide the fate of those in the Geos, the Labs, and the Rejs.

So many twists!

I’m a big Ramona Finn fan, and I’m so not disappointed in the ending of this book. This book is a roller coaster ride of the best kind! Finn creates these awesome worlds where the Apocalypse has already happened years ago and then she inserts these amazing heroines who kick ass and take names as they go. The way she develops personality and relationships and character are nothing short of a masterpiece! Read book 1 before this, as it gives so much context. I love that her societies have their own faux pas and norms, morals and values, and that she can take one person who is a tiny bit different and propels them on this course of greatness. Each decision the MC makes, seemingly small or big, puts them on a course to greatness! Enjoy!

Addictive!
“The Labs” continues Tylia’s adventure as she and Kev have won the Acceptance Trials and think that they will get to live in the “Greens” with their family. But all is not as it seems as Tylia is pulled into the world of the Farrows. The line between the truth and lies begin to blur for Tylia as she begins to fall for Ben Farrow and thinks less about Skylar Two. This thrilling tale of suspense, danger, action and live brings Tylia full circle to the truth behind the Acceptance Trials and the Farrows. But does anyone in the Geos really want to know the truth? Read this exciting tale and find out.

The Labs is the second book in The GEOs series. The story continues after Tylia survived the virus and the Acceptance trials. She now lives in the Greens and there are many lies. Her life is in danger and she has to do everything she can to save herself and her loved ones. I enjoyed reading this sequel a lot. There was a lot of action and the characters were great. The plot was very interesting and I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone.

Rebel with a cause

Tylia was a rule breaker and not a sheep like the rest of them. She was trouble with a capital T and determined to find ye truth or die trying. Inequality exists in every world and in this Dystopian one the have nots far out weigh those who have safety and food up in the sky. They have no idea of the Deception and the games that have been played in the name of science and to avoid a rebellion if word got out. War is coming but who will be caught in the crossfire and will Tylia have to sacrifice those she loves to save the world.?

While I do hate a cliffhanger, this one was worth it. With all the twists and turns, I was kept reading until the late hours to find out what happens next. I like how the story is easy to follow-the characters are well developed individuals, so you never lose track of who is who. I also enjoy that there's no clear hood or bad guy-sometimes the good guys have to make tough decisions, and sometimes those perceived as the bad guy can have good qualities, just like real people. Great read, cant wait to dive into the next one!!!

After surviving the virus and Acceptance Trials, Tylia thinks life will be easier. But when she finds herself in a web of lies and half truths can she find out what is going on with disappearing or being brainwashed? This is a really interesting YA dystopian sci-fi novel. The story is exciting and will keep you reading. I really liked the characters and I can’t wait to read the next book!

Extremely exciting and emotionally inspiring storyline !!

Tylia is an AWESOME character with so much to deal with, not knowing what is the truth about the Farrows, who to trust, what to believe, and how to find out !!! She searches for the truth, gets in a lot of trouble, and makes a lot for them in return. When she learns what is really going on, she has to decide what to do. Now, It's time to deal with the situation and fight for everyone !!!

This is the 3rd book I've read written by Ramona Finn; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved this sequel! I really enjoyed the first book in the series (The Acceptance) and I thought this was a very good follow up. I loved watching Tylia move to the Greens and fight against the deceit and dangers there after her challenges in the first book. The characters were dynamic and the plot was engaging. Great book!

Oof Tylia annoyed me in this book. How wish washy she is. Flip flopping so quickly between rebel and elite. Forgetting all the shitty things that had been done to her, and had been done by the company.

I know she’s a teenager but damn women, can’t you stop letting a pretty face distract you from all the terrible things that have happened in your life.

These books are SO GOOD! They remind of the Exceptional series by Jess Petosa! I love a good dystopian trilogy. I saw someone saying that she's too wishy washy, but hey i get it. Torn between 2 guys, one who's right and one who wants to make you think he's right for you. And its seriously on edge of Thriller if not a Thriller Dystopian type of series. Its sooo good!

So many choices! Tylia Coder yet again is faced with making the right choice. Was Ben just manipulating her? Could she trust Skylar Two? What will happen to her parents? Can’t wait for the next book!

I found this book a bit slow and unrelatable. I had a very difficult time connecting to the main character, who at times seemed like a smart girl, but then would always do the dumbest things that no one would actually do in real life.

Book two of the Geos series. This one is possibly better than book one because it has even more adventure. It leads up well to the final book of the series.
