A body on the rocks. A bookmaker with dangerous secrets. When the case is ruled a misadventure, Inspector Crowe digs deeper — and enters a world where murder is just another wager.
ARC review
"There was a lot of your trademark writing in there, the nuances that suggest something without telling us, sometimes in the right direction, sometimes in the wrong direction, keeping the suspense building.
Crowe has an edgy depth that never really comes out, his complexities never shade the plot itself, which I like. It stays focused, like him, on the case. It kept me hooked. A page-turner. Right up to your high standard and a very original plot. Thank you!"
EAGLES HUNT WOLVES won the FIREBIRD BOOK AWARD 2021 - ACTION / ADVENTURE.
What a disappointment. I really enjoyed the first few books of this series, even if it's not great literature, but this last book really felt like the author has come to hate his characters and just wanted to be done with the whole series. He should have left it at the last book, if that's how he felt. The others were at least fun and had some hope. This was a depressing, boring slog from start to finish, and a punishment to read. I wouldn't have bothered if it was the first in a series, but I really regret having purchased it at all. If you loved this series, genuinely don't bother reading this last book, it doesn't add anything to the characters or the story, it's better to leave things with the 4th book and pretend this one doesn't exist.
