Rate this book
The Manhattan Job is the third installment of the heart-stoppingly suspenseful Spider Heist series by USA Today bestselling author Jason Kasper.

Before she was a thief, Blair Morgan was a disgraced FBI agent…her corrupt former boss sending her to jail as a scapegoat.

Now a world-class thief, it’s time for Blair’s revenge.

Blair has all the evidence she needs to take her old boss down...she just needs to steal it first.

But when another master thief beats her to the punch, Blair finds her evidence up for sale in a bidding war between her crew, her enemy, and a mysterious figure known only as Fixer. The journey will take her crew from their LA hideout to Washington DC and Manhattan, where the final victor will be determined once and for all.

With ten days until the auction, Blair’s crew must find a way to uncover Fixer’s identity and convince him to join their cause.

If they can’t get leverage, the man who put Blair in jail goes free forever…

It was a great entertainment.

I have a great sweet spot for all kinds of thieves, and even bigger for heist stories. This is just such a story. Blair and her three friends form a famous group of thieves. In this book, they must retrieve the tapes on which politician Jim Jacobson confesses to a crime. If they don't, Jacobson will threaten the family of one of them. There is also place for revenge, as Jacobson is responsible for Blair's imprisonment. So the stakes are really high all the time.

What I like the most is how smart and clever they all are. Not only are they very experts in their field, but they can also come up with original plans that will allow them to overcome any obstacles and get what they want. I also like that they use their skills as much as they use modern technology. They also just make a great team together.

If you love fast-paced action stories, you'll love this book. Our group of thieves make not one but several different jobs in this book. They are all interesting and well thought out. Not always everything goes as planned, but these guys can think fast and always have plan B. Watching them work is really fun. The story is full of twists and turns, the action keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I hadn't read the previous books in this series, but that wasn't a problem at all. I was able to fully enjoy this story without them. Although I admit that I have already added the previous books in this series to my TBR list. I can't wait to read them.

Thanks to NetGalley and Severn River Publishing for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What an intense, well-plotted story with action you can hardly believe, characters so defined you feel like you know them personally, twists and surprises that change the story at the drop of a hat, all woven into an outstanding thriller that will have you short of breath, on the edge of your seat and ready for More from page one!!!
This book can define the action-thriller, you are barely able to take a deep breath before you are pulled in a different direction, as this amazing, intelligent group of thieves makes it their business to expose a corrupt FBI Agent...Who has disgraced member Blair in the past, when she was with the FBI...It is now time for some payback, as she has some tapes that tell wild truths...But they are stolen from her bank...Now the 'Sky Thieves' must get them back...And they have many lives riding on their ability to do just that, personally and professionally!
A Tour De Force by this author in a series that gets better each book!!!

The Manhattan Job is the third instalment in the Spider Thrillers Heist series and is the most thrilling and engaging episode so far. Corrupt FBI Agent Jim Jacobsen has climbed his way up the job ladder trampling on anyone who gets in his way and now is a part of both state and federal government with high hopes of making it as president. No one knows just how ruthless Jim is more than Blair Morgan, a former FBI Agent, whose superior was none other than Jim; he disgraced her and had a hand in ending her career as well as those of her team and sending them all to jail. Four digital tapes exist and are proof of Jim’s corrupt nature; they leave no room for doubt as they tell some convincing truths backed up by objective evidence. Naturally, Jim wants to make sure none of his dirty secrets can come out and obliterate his chances of becoming a successful politician. Unfortunately, the tapes have been stolen from Blair’s possession by the elusive Wraith and she must do everything in her power to reclaim them.

It soon becomes a race as to who can locate them sooner with both sides risking it all and becoming increasingly desperate. But good ol’ Jim didn't count on Blair’s team The Sky Thieves, a professional and intelligent group of pilferers, who are hellbent on exposing him and his slimy ways. Will revenge be sweet for Blair and her crew? This is a brilliant addition to a great series with a riveting and action-packed plot and plenty of high-stakes drama. Blair is an admirable, likeable and intelligent protagonist and is one of the leaders of the group alongside Sterling, a seemingly indomitable truth seeker who chases justice and the idea that you shall reap what you sow. The short, snappy chapters make this a fast and furious read that grips you like a vice and brings all the twists, thrills and palpable tension needed to satisfy thriller readers. Well written, entertaining from start to finish and a superb choice for much-needed pandemic escapism, this is an enjoyable, nail-biting adventure.

The best of the series so far

What's better than a new Jason Kasper book? A new Jason Kasper book which comes out two months prior to the original release date!

Get ready, because on 4 May, you will be treated to the best Spider Heist book so far, and considering that this series is already comprised of incredible thrillers, this is saying a lot!

Who would've thought that retrieving a stolen object and all that it implies, coupled with a political intrigue worthy of the best espionage novels, would be as gripping as any high speed car chase or maximum security prison break Jason Kasper has written in this series so far?

Detailed and gripping, this is another page turner!

What Fun!

This is the third book in the Spider Heist series, and IMHO, the best so far. I was on tender hooks through most of it, especially the last third, although grateful for the comic relief provided by Alec. Even the prep sections, which consist of mind-numbing technical explanations and discussions, garnered my interest this time around. This time around, the caring that Sterling and Blair have for each other takes another step forward, but it is totally okay with me even though I still hate romance novels. This is absolutely still a sky thieves heist novel in every way. And these books always provide full resolution as each one ends - never a cliffhanger here! However, if you're interested, you should definitely start with the first one, The Spider Heist.

Spider Heist Thriller!

This is an entertaining, action packed series with a cast of thieves that you just have to root for! The quest to bring Jim Jacobson down continues - seeking justice for his abuse of power and his threats to destroy the life of an innocent in his vendetta against the Sky Thieves. Read this action packed series from the beginning and follow the escapades of the Sky Thieves!

Four stars plus. I am thoroughly enjoying this series, which is best read in order. Highly entertaining, high performance heist crew with nothing but good in their hearts, and an implacable enemy who pushes them to the limit. Suspension of disbelief required, but it’s all in such good fun. A very engaging series, I’m on to the next one!

Si.

English

This is the third book in this series, which focuses on a fugitive Blair and her team of thieves, who are on a mission to expose the man in charge of taking them to prison and who plans to be president. To be the third book in a series and not have read the first two, I must say that I didn't feel lost and it was really easy to understand the story since it's focused on the mission and not so much on the relationship of the plot with the others books.

Main characters

Our protagonist; Blair, is a former FBI agent who decided to "retire" due to the corruption of her former boss Jim, who took it upon himself to blame her and her team. She's an interesting and strong character, she is mature and very intelligent, I quite like her and can be considered as one of the leaders of the group. While Sterling, the true leader, is someone who is determined and seeks justice, with the sole objective of protecting his mother and Blair, his character is not bad but it was not to my liking, there were times when he bothered me so I'm neutral with him.

For the rest of the team, Marco is a serial and intelligent character, like Sterling I don't like him very much but I feel that it's because of his lack of dialogue, in general, he is a forgettable character. Instead, Alec is the funny character of the group and quite skilled, I think he is my favorite because he made the story entertaining, but again it would have been better to see a little more of him.

Plot

First of all, I must say that I like the plot since it's presented like it was a movie, but due to this it must be recognized that it makes the story predictable, that is, they get robbed and have to recover it to expose the villain, simple, common, it's not original, although there were some moments where the story surprised me but mostly everything was kinda obvious, and some conversations were somewhat awkward.

Because the chapters are short the reading is very fast and fluid, there are also several action scenes that are very well described and easy to imagine. While there is a bit of romance, the focus of the book is on the plot and not the characters.

Side characters

Our villain, Jim, is a former FBI agent who is running to be the next president and has a serious history of corruption that Blair's team wants to expose. Throughout the book we see how Jim is a terrible antagonist, he literally didn't have any kind of control and many of his scenes were laughable and basically felt unnecessary due to his lack of character.

Instead "Wraith", the one who stole the tapes from Blair is probably my favorite character, to begin with, I was surprised when it was revealed who it was and I sincerely hope that it appears in later books. He felt more like the villain and made a very good impression.

Finally, it's a good and entertaining story, it's a quick read and anyone can read it to pass the time.

Is this book for you?

Perfect for: Lovers of heist, crime, and action.
Do I recommend it? Yes.

This is turning out to be a super fun series - it is perfectly positioned pop corn entertainment.

If you think about this book and series as a whole, its like the Fast & Furious franchise - F&F started as a movie on racing thieves who now have become international espionage agents on wheels. Likewise this one started among a group of heisters and moved to revenge seeking politics changing heisters. And yes, as I have mentioned about this series, this is so tailor made for the screen - just need someone like a Netflix to pick this one up

Manhattan Job adds the complication of our heisters themselves being heisted of a product that they need to save themselves. The plot follows our leads as they try to disrupt the sale of the product esp to an adversary who is out for revenge and has made it personal. What follows is the cat and mouse chase with layers of plans that almost inevitably go wrong upon or even before first contact

The thrilling nature of the book never sags - it literally is one event after the other with a few moments of quiet for personality development (mostly for Sterling and Blair with comedic moments for the others). If you can think about it, this really is Gentlemen Bastards but without the magical/ fantasy elements. And that is high praise indeed.

But of course, to bring it down to earth a bit - the writing works but this isnt a book that is gonna be like literary types. It makes no bones about it and to an extent, it is a bit sanitized as well - not grim at all

The way the book ends, it kind of does set up the rest of the series for bigger stakes while potentially growing the team as well. This is a fun series and absolutely brilliant diversionary entertainment. The perfect airport read

The Sky Thieves play a deadly game of chess with Jim and his master while being challenged by an unknown thief. The first showdown occurs at an unlikely place and surprises all involved. Sterling risks exposure to reach out to a master thief who knew his father. The Wraith and Blair risk life and limb as Jim's freedom and career hang in the balance. With police and U.S. Secret Service everywhere, the Sky Thieves make a daring play in Manhattan, as Blair faces her fears and pushes her mind and body to new heights. The master puppeteer remains hidden but abuses his power by sending bent off-duty cops to pursue the Sky Thieves. The stage is set for a future confrontation in The Fifth Bandit.

Jason Kasper succeeds with another gripping tale in the rarefied world of all or nothing heists.

Well, three books in and each book is just getting better. Seriously...I'm not sure my nerves can continue to take this.

I was telling my husband that I've just decided that there was no way that I could make it as a thief. He looked at me funny and I told him that I was reading a series about a world class team of thieves, and that the series was detailing their exploits, but that my stomach was in knots during almost every page....serious butterflies. I can't take the pressure :)

To me, that is the epitome of brilliant writing. That I, as a reader, am so invested, so worried, so afraid to continue reading, but can not stop turning the page....brilliant. Just brilliant.

So, as I mentioned before, things are only getting better. We are progressing in the overall story arc and while we find that one of the bad guys gets taken down, there is still the "Mentor" out there.

Remember, no spoilers, so let's just say that I can not wait to keep going. I know that the next book is the last book in this series (at least that is the scuttlebutt at this point) and I can honestly say that it is not often that I am both eager to continue on to the next book, while at the same time extremely sad that this series is coming to an end (and I haven't even read the last book!). For a person who reads as much as I do...this is a situation that is very, very rare.

I mentioned in one of my previous reviews that the one word that comes to mind to describe this series is THRILLING. That even feels like a poor word description, but the best one word description that I can come up with. The way that Mr. Kasper keeps the action continual (it is truly non-stop), with the suspense building and building, with the drama and suspense getting tighter and tighter....Oh my goodness. I just hope my poor heart can take it...

But, I need to just suck it up because I definitely NEED to find out what is going to happen. So, this review needs to end because I have another book to read....

Likeable thieves involved in a thrilling theft, what more could you ask for?

Jason Kasper is one of those storytellers who can set the hook and reel the reader in page after page until they are hopelessly caught up in a tale will keep them reading until the very last page. I had read a few of his espionage stories and honesty when I got the chance to read an advance copy of The Manhattan Job, I didn’t read the info blurb, I just got right into the story and was very surprised it was about a crew of thieves. These characters are well developed and after a short while become very likeable, to the point of almost cheering them on their nefarious pursuits. After reading this story, I’m now planning on finding any earlier stories that involve this cast of characters. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.

So Good, Once You Adjust

I didn’t review the other books in the series, I will simply leave a review here and put stars on the other books. I will say that this tale is a page turner, once you get started it is very difficult to find a good place to stop. I suggest you begin reading early in the morning so you will have most of the day to finish. If you start in the late afternoon it may be a long evening. One thing to get used to with these books is there is a LOT of narration. I’m not a big fan of books that are heavy a narrative, but there are times when it is valuable. This book is a great example of the heavy use of narrative and yet the story unfolds in a very compelling way. If you’re looking for a thriller, you like good guys and bad guys, and you like to see a good thief fighting against the odds, this book is a great read.

Another fun read by Jason Kaspar, but for me this was the weakest book of the Spider Heist series so far. It has some great moments, but drags out a fairly simple plot to over 450 pages to the point where a lot of it feels like filler. It's also the first book in the series which has a terrible cliffhanger ending, with many loose ends still dangling. The first two books did a great job of wrapping up the local action while setting the scene for future books - this one leaves a lot to be desired. That said, if you're looking for a fun heist series with no profanity, overt the top violence, or sleazy sex scenes, this is a great series to try.

I'll be checking out the next book for sure, which I hope will finally put an end to the "Jim's Mentor" storyline. When you're reading that phrase for what feels like the hundredth time it really starts to grate on the nerves.

Jason Kasper and the Sky Thieves did it again.

Just as good as the previous two books in the series. If you are sticking with the series so far, you'll know what to expect, and still be pleasantly surprised. Superb work. Kudos to Jason.

If you are starting with this book, stop reading this and start with book one, The Spider Heist. Otherwise the story will still be complete, but you'll miss a lot of the character growth and references to the past will fall somewhat flat for you.

I highly recommend the entire trilogy (so far) and I'm so I'm not the only one eagerly awaiting book four in 2022.

A Must Read!

Jason Kasper Author of the Spider Heist series, has written an incredible third book. The crew's new goal is to obtain recordings containing incriminating evidence of a FBI agent/upcoming politician who is pursuing them, which Blair had hidden away. However, upon attempting to retrieve the recordings, they discover that someone has beaten them to it. Blair and the crew must now navigate obstacles to recover the tapes, including the FBI, a wealthy mentor of the FBI agent, and an outsider thief. This is a gripping read, and I highly recommend the series. The Spider Heist series is a must-read, and you will not be disappointed.

The Manhattan Job is a non-stop thrill ride as it follows the Sky Thieves on their latest adventure. Blair was hoping the items she put in a safety deposit box under a different identity was her ticket to freedom. Unfortunately, someone else found them first, and now our team have to get them back before they are lost forever.
This is one of my favorite series. I really love the author and his style. Believable stories with characters that are well thought out and above all-interesting. Hoping Jason keeps the series going, and if so, doesn't change the formula.

The Sky Thieves make Oceans 11 look like beginners

I usually am disappointed by sequels, but Kasper keeps getting better with each SPIDER HEIST THRILLER. THE MANHATTAN JOB, to date is by far the best. The technology and use of surveillance “toys”, is almost sci fiction. Then Kasper throws in enough political intrigue to get my attention. The action scenes and crazy ideas from Alec, Marco, and Blair are real page turners.
Jason Kasper, I’ve already pre purchased book 4.
Thank you

Phenomenal

Absolute genius, basically written by Alec because it’s so smart. The almond joy part, oh my gosh, brilliant. But beyond all the wit and clever banter, the twists and turns of the heist keep the reader guessing what could possibly come next. It was kinda like a high speed car chase through LA, a turn here, a daring leap there, and never knowing right up until the end how the pieces would fall and what the Manhattan Job would actually look like. Pure brilliance. Please write the next book faster. 💗

Spider Heist 3

Can I just say this one had me holding my breath and re-reading paragraphs and pages because I had to make certain I got that right. Just seriously intense. Still waiting to see exactly what kind of unholy mess is finally going to be bestowed upon the despicable Jacobson. Is he going to remain untouchable long enough to hurt Mrs. Defranc. And Mr. Big Shot...oh he's been pushed over the edge. We thought Jacobsen was bad news. I have a feeling we haven't seen anything yet. Bring it Jason, can't wait to keep reading of Sterling's crew.

This third book in the Spider Heist Thriller series, focusing on the Sky Thieves is as good as the previous two books. There are a few parts of elaborately technical descriptions which could have probably been removed, but that’s the only negative of the entire novel.

The action is fast paced and always moving forward. This time a new character is introduced which brings a new depth to the characters and challenges to overcome.

The conclusion leads up to the next book, which I’m very much lookin forward to.

Another very good and well written story.

SUPERB! Each book in Author Kasper’s Spiderheist series has only improved. So when I gave the first book Five Stars little did I realize I had left no room for justifiable evaluation. I grabbed The Manhattan Job as an end of year wrap up. Not so fast! It’s pretty clear he still has one more bad guy to take down. And I’m guessing the ‘the fifth” Team member is going to be a big PLUS! Heck, I’ve still got one more day to read. Let’s glitter done! My head’s gonna be swirling with all the twists and turns that await me the next 28 hours and 20 minutes! VR, Mags

Another thriller in this series. Blair was a former FBI agent and her former boss framed her. She was let go from the FBI. There are tapes that will tell the truth about her former boss, who is now running for public office. But when the go for the tapes, they are missing. Someone stole them and now is selling them. A bidding was ensues. The Sky Thieves need to get to the tapes. A roller coaster ride with this thriller.

I don't get much sleep when reading Jason Kasper stories and this book made me very sleep deprived. I just had to finish it and crash after my adrenaline rush. This team is so in tune with a skill set that flawlessly compliments each other it's like watching a ballet. I was thoroughly entertained watching them travel through twists, plots and jump through hoops to complete their mission. You've got to read this.

The Sky Thieves strike...

Out to gain an important set of 4 tapes taken by a female heist master. But the Sky Thieves have a female heist master of their own. The Manhattan Job drags a little in the beginning, but really picks up pace when the chase to get the tapes becomes an all female high wire chase to the finish.

The story drags a little in the beginning. But the plan to get the tapes back is detailed, and the final chapters are worth the read.

Another strong installment in Jason Kasper’s series. The Manhattan Job delivers exactly what I’ve come to expect—tight pacing, sharp action, and a team dynamic that keeps you invested from start to finish. The story moves quickly, the stakes stay high, and Kasper once again proves he knows how to balance suspense with character.

I enjoyed this one just as much as the others in the series, and it reminded me why I keep coming back to these books. Looking forward to diving into the next one.
