The Hero: Hunter - He grew up in a home with a meth addicted mother until being put in fostercare. He would be dead by now if it hadn’t been for his boss Gavriel Morretti who ran the infamous Bullet gang with an iron fist. Morretti hired Hunter when he was 18 and Hunter had become one of the best assassins in the business and his one weakness was Roe, whom he had been keeping track of and keeping safe since she was born.

The heroine: Roe - her father died the night she was born, her mother died when she was ten. She lived with her uncle and was a senior in high school. Known as the class slut, because she was a serial dater. When guys got too close she would kick them to the curb. On her eighteenth birthday, she goes to a party to get drunk and her uncle picks her up after work. The next day, they are attacked by a biker gang and crash his car. Roe wakes up in bed in a small dark room with no clothes on, bruised and battered with a cast on her arm.

The story: Hunter hired Mack eight years ago to protect Roe. She thought he was her mothers brother, but in fact he was a member of the Bullets gang who had once had a family. His daughter had died of cancer fifteen years previously so was perfect for the job. Though Hunter promised Mack that any injury Roe got would be given to Mack as well. He was brutal that way.

After the accident, Mack took Roe back home but she didn’t get an answer as to who the other man was that saved them and why they were attacked. She didn’t know that Hunter was always watching her and when she decided to run, he would find her.

“It was easy to forget how fucked up he was when he looked like a walking Calvin Klein ad.”

“I didn’t feel like a girl capable of claiming Hunter’s heart. I was his redemption, not the love of his life.”

This book was really good, it held my attention throughout and there was always something going on, no lulls between important events. I really liked both characters and I loved the fact that the duet was put into this one book. I don’t like the way many authors put one story into two or more books when it is just better to have it all in one. It seems like such a marketing ploy to get more money.

Some characters from Sunshine and the Bullets (another series by the same author) were in this book, so now I want to read that one as well. I put in on my TBR for later since this one was so good. I loved the fact that the road for Hunter and Roe was so filled with obstacles. It made things interesting. I love stalker romance and this was a good one. Hunter made a good stalker and I loved that he was stalking her to protect her.

Rejoice- we now get this one giant, meaty story! No suffering through that cliffy! This is one of Cora’s best- and this new cover is GORGEOUS!

Lovely Obsession: (Part 1)
This book draws you in, comforts you, then chews you up and spits you out- in a good way. The premise here was definitely alluring- we have a young 18-year old heroine who is mysteriously being protected (or stalked, potato-potAto) by an older stranger, at first unknowingly, then begrudgingly, then welcomely.

Our heroine Roe is a spitfire- with a past full of trauma and pain that has made her shut others out and consciously and subconsciously use people to numb her pain. She’s somehow both self-aware and oblivious, traumatized and unaffected, jaded yet naïve. She’s quickly drawn into Hunter’s world, the man who has been keeping her in a protective bubble for most of her life without her even knowing him, and we’re immersed into a tale of fraught relationships, unclear motives, deception, and inexplicable connection and obsessions.

Roe leverages Hunter’s interest in her to form the first real connection she’s had in years, and Hunter fights his conflicted feelings for her all while keeping her in the dark about his intentions and history. Hunter is deliciously intriguing- at the end of the duet, we still don’t quite know and understand him even though we can fully live into his truth as it relates to Roe. And, for those Bullet fans out there, we do have some Gavriel cameos given Hunters ties to the Bullets.

Overtime, Hunter and Roe’s tie becomes an obsession for them both, both becoming controlled by their draw to each other- yet neither being self-assured, illuminated, and emotionally stable enough to understand their feelings and whether or not this obsession is good or bad. The chemistry is sizzling, and Coralee is great at drawing out the sexual tension, dialing up the push and pull, all through the lens of emotional fractures.

The romance here is haunting and bittersweet, painful yet rejuvenating. Coralee not only is a master at immersing us in the push-pull dynamic, but she’s also a master at letting relationships breathe and struggle- ensuring that both characterization and timing is right for a relationship to evolve, and this is not different. Roe and Hunter are still struggling with aspects of themselves, so, of course, they struggle either more in their connection to each other.

Lovely Confession (Part 2)

Roe is now the obsessor and the stalker, as she’s trying to deliver on her farewell promise to Hunter after that brutal first half. Much to her frustration, she’s not made much progress- not only in her quest to find Hunter but in her life in general, as she’s allowed her obsession with finding him consume her. Her desperation leads her to make the risky decision to rely on the good will of a dangerous stranger to find her lost love.
We have an evolved Roe- she’s more fierce, more determined, more resourceful, and more feisty. She’s decided she has nothing to lose, so she’s willing to confront the risk, confront the pain, and later confront Hunter’s hostility in order to salvage what she considers to be her only real connection.

Hunter is as alluring as ever, and here. He’s clearly still haunted, still guilty, and still perplexed by his conflicting feelings towards Roe, and as the book title suggests, there is something he needs to confess. The push and pull angst made for dramatic tension and sexual chemistry in the first book, and here, it feels more cruel. Certainly it serves its purpose- to make the path of Hunter and Roe reconnecting nuanced, challenging, and perplexing.

Be prepared for the “lovely confession” and a twist I never saw coming. This ups the volatility and confusion in Hunter and Roe’s conclusion, but it does finally illuminate what was such a barrier for Hunter. This happens side-by-side with some hardcore danger and action- and while this makes for an exciting conclusion, I wish we’d had a chance to let the emotional fallout from the confession breathe a little bit more-the resolution felt a bit too swift, and a bit too easy.

But, as Roe says early on, “obsessions have purpose”- and that really is the theme here, there is reason she and Hunter have been so interwoven into each other’s lives, even if it is through trauma, damage, pain, and hurt. And, the best way to let their damage breathe is for them to finally accept that they don’t have to qualify or understand the obsession, but rather, lean into it, allow it to pull them together rather than apart, to trust that there is a purpose to their draw, and then, ultimately, making the CHOICE to swim in it, rather than drown.

Overall DUET Reaction:

Overall, I really enjoyed this duet. CoraLee has a beautiful way of exposing the architecture of her characters’ minds. Much like the poetry she vulnerable shares from Roe’s voice here, she uses words and imagery and the gentle description of complex emotions to help us feel our characters' turmoil, to feel their damage, to question right alongside them.

And, bonus, for any hardcore Bullets fans, we not only get to see Gavriel in this story, but ALL of our beloved bullets- even Sunshine.

I went into this duet completely blind and I was not disappointed. This may be a new favorite! It jacked my head up in the best way possible and I have a new book boyfriend that I freaking adore. Yep. That’s all.

I read these books separately. Still, after almost two years since I read them and I still think about these characters. That says something about not only the author but about these characters. I highly recommend the duet.

A Lovely Obsession
4.6 stars

This author is always able to navigate the fine line between light and dark. Her words are decadent and enticing. This book is an example of her brilliant mind and master skills as an author. I shouldn't find a book about obsession sexy and poignant but I did because this book isn't at all like one would think of they think someone is a stalker.

I'm in awe and I need the next book like I need air. Thank the stars that it is only a week away.

A Lovely Confession
4 stars

I have been waiting for this book since I read the last one. It played over and over in my subconscious as I tried to fathom how it would end. In some ways, the story lived up to the hype. In others, it didn't. I enjoyed portions of it like the poetry but the ending felt rushed and left me feeling meh. I felt that Roe and Hunter needed more of a resolution after the big finale/climax.

Still, it was good and I love this author.

Kept me interested butttttt

***Spoilers****

Going in I was very excited to learn that he was obsessed with her but well that wasn’t the case exactly. She was a debt he thought he owed. Somewhere along the line he became obsessed in his own messed up way. Long story short he sleeps with her leaves her for 5 years where he turns around and sleeps with basically a compound of women whom which the h becomes friends (“family” he says) with….no just no I can’t get passed this. This book wasn’t for me.

This duet hit me like....
Yes,
No,
I love it,
I shouldn’t love it,
I need to know what happens...
GAH!!!

Yes, it is that kind of read.

It taps into the part of your psyche that knows it’s a dark and depraved book and you shouldn't read another word, but it is also the part of your brain that says ooooh, bring it on because it is forbidden and I want every delicious thing about you and I want more, more more!!!

Hunter and Roe shouldn’t make sense in any coupledom, but they also make perfect sense after you finish the book.

They are bound by destiny, a twisted fate that holds them together by their obsession of one another. There were moments I didn’t necessarily like the actions of either character, but it was because I was at the point of thinking, just let them go. GAH! Things had gotten so bad or they had pushed each other to the point where they had reached their final breaking point that you do wonder, if they really are better off with someone else.
Coralee did her job and did it well because it had me...I know the person who fights and wants her HEA’s actually pondering this, but that didn’t make me stop reading. For the eternal optimist, it actually made me read faster because I had faith that in that moment of darkness the HEA would be glorious.
I do know in times on ultimate darkness when everything seems bleak and you wonder how anything will be right, those are the times when I know the payout will be the biggest. Coralee did not disappoint one single bit when I was wallowing in those pits. This is a dark romance in every sense of the word, but know that with a dark romance there is beautiful light at the end.

Lovely obsession is unlike most books I read, which I’m going to say thank goodness with that, because this one got under my skin and lingered and lingered. I know I will be obsessed with these characters for some time and have to go and read everything that Coralee has written...I know I am now obsessed. Watch out for a new stalker, Coralee!! LOL!!

Stalker Love

In this book, a young woman discovers she has a stalker whom will do anything to protect her. It's both creepy and kind of sweet in a disturbing way.

On Roe's 10th birthday she discovers her mother dead of an overdose. This incident obviously changes her life completely, but also sets her (unknowingly) in the hands of a stalker. On her 18th birthday, her life is thrown into upheaval again in a horrible car crash. When she comes to, she's introduced to her stalker whom refuses to stay hidden any longer.

Roe is both terrified of and intrigued with Hunter. He controls every aspect of her life and lines get crossed. It's confusing for both of them. Hunter's backstory is a puzzle that holds Roe captive. In a few short weeks, everything implodes. Who are they to each other?

The author takes us on an adventure through violence, mental illness, and trauma where all the wrong things feel right. I loved the mixed emotions Roe and Hunter have for each other, seemingly changing within arguments from one extreme to another. This is a complicated story.

Though this book can be read as a standalone, it's related to The Bullets series and gives away some plot details, so if you're headed into the CoraLee June back catalogue, I suggest you read that series first (it's good). This was a good read and I'm happy to have lived in its pages.

4.25/5⭐️ overall
4/5🌶

Tropes:
- stalker romance
- age gap (10 yrs)
- semi-dark elements
- assassin hero

POV: first person-dual

Part one (Lovely Obsession) was phenomenal! I would have like to see more of this one. It was a perfect stalker romance. Hunter was everything and more. He was a swoon worthy protective son of a b*tch. ~ 5+++ stars

Part two (Lovely Confession) was not my favorite. Hunter was a real pain in the a** most times. The time jump from book 1 going to 2 was ridiculous considering how fast a solution was found. Also wtf was that ending. Especially that epilogue. I would have like to see more from the characters dynamic as a couple. It felt half-assed and left me wanting way more. Yes there is a HEA but it was kinda rushed. ~ 3.5 stars

Now, I love spice in books. It’s great. My issue with this was all the god damn “hate sex”. At times it was thrown in for no reason which gave me whiplash.

Okay so first, this was good. The first book was 5 stars. The second I didn't like as much, 3 stars.

Spoilers: We completely lose the stalker/obsession in the second book. The first book should've just ended on a HEA. The MCs being separated for 5 years and her turning up to find him having plowed his way through the small town he was in AND befriending his whole harem, was just not for me. I hated it. It just kinda ruined their entire "destined to be together, fated from the beginning" vibe. Also ruined my investment in the couple. I understand why he pushed her away, but he just lost all his gumption and appeal. He rolled over and gave up and just started screwing everyone who was willing. The second book wasn't bad per say, but it didn't due the first book justice. Prequels are always better than sequels. The most redeeming part of the second story was Butterfly, loved her character.

Hunter and Roe

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another fantastic gripping read from CoraLee June, she has such a skill in creating such engrossing and powerful characters that suck you in to their live, their love and their trauma.

This is so much more than a stalker romance, this is a story about heart break, regret, obsession, fear and love, so much love that it consumed both Hunter and Roe because they didn’t know the best way to channel, admit or deal with it.

I loved every part of their story, it was lovely to get some crossovers with the Sunshine and the Bullets as well! I could read about Hunter and Roe forever and found myself wanting more, more, more!

This is a dark stalker trope of deliciousness. It's wrong in all the right ways, I loved it. I stayed up until 2am to finish part 1 in this duo and then spent the entire next day getting through part 2. I was hooked.
This is one I will think back on and revisit often. The writing flowed beautifully and it was all so real. Such authenticity to the emotions that the MCs were feeling, I've ended up with highlighted quotes, tabbed sections and a couple of pages fallen loose from the intense spine bending I put it through! This is up there as a fave D.R for me. I will be reading more of this authors writing asap.

Thrilling

A thoroughly thrilling and completely enjoyable duet, set in the universe of the Bullets. I loved the dynamic between the main characters and how it kinda reverses in the second half. There was lots of emotion, realisation, mystery, secrets, revelations, action, romance and steam. Had a great flow and was difficult to put down once you got going. It was also a unique viewpoint I hadn't read from before. Highly recommend this duet for anyone looking for a bid of angsty, bad boy, forbidden romance.

Loved, loved, loved.

This book was fantastic. I couldn't and wouldn't out it down unless i t was practically life of death. It was just that good. Hunter and Roe and their twisted, entangled, blood filled relationship was dark, full of angst, violence, torture and all the feels. I highly recommend this book. It is not for the faint hearted though. It was so dark and I am hooked. I feel like I need more, It had a great ending but it is one of those books that stays with you forever. Simply excellent.

Roe and Hunter

A man obsessed with a girl since he was 10. The crazy thing about that is while he was ten, she was just born!! The first book in my opinion was dark and intense I loved how Roe was just unapologetic and Hunter showed no remorse. Yet those two flourished when they were around each other. The second book kind of made me feel like I was actually with them through their journey of just trying to live and be happy. Coralee June knocked it out of the park

For those of you who loved the Bullets, this is a spinoff duet and a great one at that. We’ve met Hunter before in the Bullets trilogy and this is his story. Roe is an interesting character and she is lucky to have Mack, Nicole and Joel in her life. This could be read as stand-alone but if you loved Sunshine and Bullets (seriously if you haven’t read, go read it), then you’ll enjoy not only visiting with them again but their world too. Bullets forever.

Yes yes yes yes yes!

This duet was even better than the original bullet series! There was so much emotion that flashed through the story that one minute you were smiling, the next you want to punch someone and after that you're swooning! I totally fell in love with these characters and all the facets of their past, present and future! This was definitely the best of this author's writings so far! I am off to go look at the rest of her books now!!!

The very beginning got me hooked. after that Hunter's gang ordeal didn't ever feel dangerous or have the reader on edge. The names of the gangs seemed cheesy. I almost dnf'd this as it began to drag on how desperate Roe was. there really wasn't anything mysterious or redeeming about him. I liked how Roe had grown through the book. As far as a stalker romance: ⭐
dark romance: no stars. spicy scenes ⭐⭐ pretty vanilla. characters ⭐⭐. plot ⭐⭐⭐

Brilliant

Loved this story so much. I changed my mind on how I felt about Hunter so many times throughout the book, first I loved him as he was so protective of Roe then I hated him as he pushed her away so cruelly and then I loved him again. Very well written and it was so good to catch up with the bullets!

Hot damn!

Great, great series! I love how Roe learns to stand on her own after such a tragic childhood. Then when Hunter finally comes out of the shadows to show her he's always been there looking out for her. Their lives and love for each other are unconventional but they fight tooth and nail and themselves to get what they want in the end.

Tragically Felt

This dragged and swallowed me into their obsession. Wow! Beautifully written to include pointed pieces of poetry throughout that added another layer, another level of emotional depth.

Hunter and Roe both had tragedies that shaped who they are. This is written in a way to make you feel their tragedies.

Fantastic from beginning to end, both books.

great writing

Look, I am a huge fan of Cora Lee, I would literally read her shopping list, but this book I didn’t like.
The first book yes, but there is no girl power in the world where you would be living with the love of your life and his former hook ups, and call them family. I feel this is taking it a bit too far and it ruined it for me.

first book by coralee June and I loved every second of it

Such amazing writing. I love a dark romance and believe it or not but a good dark book is hard to come by.
I really enjoyed Roe’s character, she isn’t your typical pretty damsel in distress.
Hunters character was perfection. The only thing could of been made better for me personally was if he was more possessive
