Everything falls apart in just a split second in this taut, suspenseful thriller by Bianca Sloane.

It was just another Saturday morning. Malcolm Gilbert is about to leave for his weekly golf game; his wife, Blair, has a hair appointment. The two have been arguing a little (well, Blair has) but nothing major.

The doorbell rings. Malcolm answers the door, and everything changes. At the door are three people who want to take all they can from the Gilberts. And they’ll stop at nothing to get what they believe is coming to them. But why are they there? Was their appearance at random or was someone behind it?

What You Don’t Know chronicles what happens in the Gilbert household over a 48-hour period. Interspersing real-time narrative with interview snippets from friends and family of the Gilberts as well as the investigators and a true crime writer, you watch everything unfold as it happens.

This was quite a thriller! Even though some elements seem familiar, Sloane weaves them together in her own way, creating a book you can’t stop reading. It was really tense and intense at times, but in a suspenseful way.

I was a little distracted by the switching back and forth between the story and interviews at first, but as the story picked up the pace, the interviews enhanced it. Sloane knows how to ratchet things up as the story moves forward!

I was excited to be part of the blog tour for this book. Kate Rock Book Tours and Bianca Sloane provided me a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased review. Thanks for making it available!

A masterful suspense writer of the horrors of a home invasion robbery that just keeps turning for the worse! The plot was razor sharp, horrifying and Sloane knows how to get under our skin - I am so terrified to even answer the doorbell now even though I m expecting some amazing book mail. I sped through this book I just had to know why the Gilberts’ were targeted and how this story was going to turn.

An April Fool's Day that is definitely no joke for the Gilbert's, when they find themselves the target of a home invasion. But why? is the big question. Things really get twisted when they discover the Gilbert's are worth way more than what they are being paid for the job. I've never read this author before and I liked the writing. I love a good twisted thriller and this was intense and kept me glued to it. I really look forward to reading more from this author.

Wow, make sure you have no plans when you sit down with this one, it will monopolize the rest of your day.

Malcolm Gilbert and his wife are going about their ordinary day when the doorbell rings. Naturally, without thinking he opens the door.  It's right then, and for the next 48 hours the Gilbert's horror begins and they are at the mercy of the monsters that have invaded their home. What do they want?  Why are they there?   You have to read it to find out.

This was my first Bianca Sloane book, and I keep asking myself what rock I've been hiding under.  This story is an immediate page turner right out of the gate. There is an overwhelming feeling of sheer terror that I've never experienced while reading before, it's like witnessing a major catastrophe and not being able to look away until you reach the unexpected ending. (Except in this case you really don't want the book to end because then what will you do with yourself?) Bianca's writing is captivating, fast paced, and seductive, and she's written one heck of a suspenseful crime thriller.  I now have a new auto-buy author and I am certainly going back and reading all her previous novels.  Truly deserving of a 5 star rating.  Highly recommend this read.

Thank you to @biancasloanesuspenseauthor, Surrounded by Books Publishing (SBB) and @katerocklitchick for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion for review.

My Review for
WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW
By Bianca Sloan
On Tour with KateRockBookTours {Partner}
**********
I’m going to just start off by saying I have to read all other Bianca Sloane Novels now. Such incredulous writing that was so descriptive and real, making the book very hard to put down. Her style of writing is truly unique in this book as it goes by chapter, broken into time segments of what is actually occurring. The narrative is description based on who is talking or what action is happening. Strangely, I was still able to feel a strong relation to each of the characters; though some I would have rather had nothing to do with. This book was a 5/5 for me.

The Gilbert family consists of Malcom, a retired NFL Star, his wife Blair and their daughter, Farrah. They live a pretty posh life and money is nothing to them. When their daughter decides to come home from college one evening, things go awry as the doorbell rings just as Malcom was about to leave to play golf. But these aren’t any neighbors or friends here to visit, there are two men and a women that quickly take control and no one is going anywhere.

They were sent to do a job, to kill someone. But when they find out Malcom and his family are worth much more than what his original job was paying, the plans change. The problem is the negotiating price keeps going higher and higher with these robbers and soon its not a simple robbery but a weekend long home invasion filled with the worst possibilities your mind can fathom. Who are these people? Why were the Gilbert’s chosen and will anyone make it out alive.

What You Don’t Know
“It’s Saturday morning. April Fool’s Day to be exact. Malcolm Gilbert is on his way to play golf. His wife, Blair, is headed to the hair salon. That’s the plan anyway..Then the doorbell rings. And their nightmare begins.”

HOLY CRAP!!!! This book was WILD! I was not expecting this!!!! It’s almost impossible to review this without giving away spoilers, so here goes nothing.

This story follows Malcolm, husband, father, and former sports superstar, his wife Blair, a former musical superstar, and their daughter Farrah. On his way out the door to play golf the doorbell rings. He answers, and everything goes downhill from there. Three people, two males and a female, point guns at the family, tie them up, and begin to follow through with some plan. The Gilbert’s try their best to remain calm and piece together what is happening. They can’t figure out who could be behind this or what these kids want. As the time goes on, the realization hits that they aren’t making it out of this. These three kids start to unleash all sorts of terror on this family.

The story goes back and forth between articles and interviews of the incident as well as bank to the story at hand. Throughout the whole book you don’t really know what happened the the family into the very end. Also, I NEVER expected the mastermind of this home invasion to be who it was. You must read to find out.

PSA there were a few moments in this book that made me sick to my stomach so keep thag in mind when reading! This book was released in September so grab a copy today!

Thank you Bianca Sloane for this copy to read and review! I am truly blessed to have these opportunities.

Short Synopsis:

It’s Saturday morning. April Fool’s Day to be exact. Malcolm Gilbert is on his way to play golf. His wife, Blair, is headed to the hair salon. That’s the plan anyway. Then the doorbell rings. And their nightmare begins. For the next forty-eight hours, the Gilberts are at the mercy of sadists who unleash a seemingly unending campaign of terror against them. But the question isn’t who would attack the Gilberts. The question is why . . .

My thoughts:

This is my first novel by Bianca and holy moly ... I was completely terrified from start to finish😨😨😨. If you like your anxiety level to be through the roof when reading a book, this one is for you! And can we talk about the cover? It completely sets the tone for the book and I found myself unable to read this after dark because I started putting myself into the shoes of the characters and it was very unsettling. The writing style of this book is unique and fresh and I found that alternating chapters between the live action and interviews with friends/family kept me completely invested throughout the novel. Not going to sugar coat it - there are some super graphic scenes in the book that I wasn't physically or mentally prepared for. It was hard to read at times, but I felt like they were important in the plot. And the person behind the hit? Oh goodness gracious ... I better never piss anyone off in my family or I could risk losing everything that mattered to me! Thank you so much, @katerockbooktours for allowing me to be on this #booktour. This is a book I won't soon forget!!

My favorite thing about being a book reviewer is discovering new authors and Bianca Sloane was a new to me author who has me ready to read more of her books after devouring this one in just two nights. I was quickly hooked on this story, Sloane’s writting style is fast paced and totally gripping.

The Gilbert family is starting their Saturday morning off like most families Malcolm going to play golf with his friends, Blair heading to the salon to get her hair done and it just so happens to be April Fools Day when the door bell rings what awaits them on the other side of the door is their worst nightmare.

The story goes back and forth between chapters of what’s happening in real time and police, statements from friends, co-workers, neighbors, ETC which for me really made the story so interesting it added a layer mystery putting the pieces together as a reader.

I could definitely see this book turned into a great series that I’d love to watch.
I definitely plan to add more Bianca Sloane books to my collection!

Thank you Bianca Sloane and Kate Rock Book Tours for my ARC of What You Don’t Know and for having me be part of your wonderful book tour.

Another one that snuck up on me. I really enjoyed the way the story was told with the way it unfolds being intertwined with excerpts from police, reporters, friends, etc. The pace was quick and there were a few little twists, and before I knew it I was done. I have a few others from this author on my list so I'm looking forward to them.

I'm a huge fan of Bianca Sloane's books so I was excited to hear that a new one was on the horizon.

What You Don't Know is a tense psychological thriller that will leave you gasping for breath! What starts off an a normal Saturday for the Gilbert family quickly spirals into a living nightmare with the simple ring of their doorbell.

The three people at the door are unknown to former NFL star Malcolm Gilbert, but they know all about him. They also know that his wife Blair used to be in a world famous girl band and that they have a teenage daughter called Farrah. Someone has sent them to this particular family and they don't want them to leave empty handed. Will these strangers get what they've been sent for and if so, at what cost to the Gilberts?

I've always thought that Bianca Sloane's books were edgy but she has defintely surpassed herself this time around. This terrifying tale takes place over the space of forty-eight hours and with the chapters alternating between the hostage situation and interviews with friends, family and police, it's more like a crime documentary. I don't think I've ever read a book written in this particular style before and I absolutely loved it as it made me feel closer and more connected to the Gilbert's.

This complex, tense and dark book will chill you to your very core. The story is truly horrifying, and somewhat graphic in places, but it's in no way gratuitous. Just when you think things can't get any worse Bianca Sloane ramps up the tension and this is exactly why I love her books, as I never know where they are going to take me.

What You Don't Know will definitely be in my list of top ten books of the year and I highly recommend that you add this little beauty to your TBR pile - along with every other book by this author!

When your doorbell rings, do you immediately answer it? Do you maybe take a quick peek through the peephole? Do you just swing it wide open, not paying attention to who may he on the other side of that door?

Being a female, I always check the peephole, that’s just my nature after reading countless thrillers and listening to podcasts like “Crime Junkie” and of course all the crime shows and movies. Crime Junkie depicts me in so many ways haha, if I’m reading a book that’s on the “hallmark channel” type level, I can become bored. And that my friends, is something that Wont’t happen with this read. You’ll never want to stop because you’ll want to know the whole entire story. If I hadn’t been caught up with my Avon convention this weekend, I can guarantee, I would have finished this the very night I started.

Malcolm Gilbert opens the door before checking and in walks the families worst nightmare. Just how far does it go, how wretched or tragic can the weekend end up? You will absolutely HAVE to buy the book to find out! And you can do just that on September 23!

If I could, I’d rate this higher but, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ is all I can give on most platforms. Thank you to Bianca and Kate Rock for having me on the tour, stay tuned for my book review coming soon on my Instagram page!

I’m left wondering what would have happened if Blair would have opened the door? A woman because men just don’t pay attention, do they? So much goodness, I can’t wait to read more my Bianca, true talent!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The chapters alternate between a terrible home invasion and interviews with friends, family and neighbors about the home invasion. It totally feels like a good episode of Dateline or 20/20.
This thriller is definitely a slow burn as the story unfolds over the span of 48 hours; the author managed to hit that perfect middle ground where the story never got boring or felt too slow. I was glued to it and was able to tune out all other distractions and tuning out distractions is usually nearly impossible for me. It’s just that captivating!
If you like thrillers, grab this one!

A book on April Fool's Day? LOVE. And a creepy one at that. Thank you so much to Bianca Sloane and Kate Rock Book Tours for this gem. I love a book that makes my heart pound and really creeps me out- and this is the perfect one. I enjoyed the alternating perspective in this book, especially the interviews. The premise was very interesting and the book was well written. I loved how twisted this book was and how you slowly learned more and more of the story. 5-stars!

This story will have you on the edge of your seat right from the start. Just imagine you and your family going about your daily normal routine when the doorbell rings and you don’t think twice before answering it. No, because the horror you’re about to face is what nightmares are made of.

Don’t want to say anything more other than you must read this book.

One of my favorite things about Bianca Sloane’s writing (Live to Tell and Tell Me a Lie are others I’ve read and reviewed, and recommend BTW) is that she can create such a suspenseful, tense atmosphere that I end up feverishly turning pages, anxious to find out what is going to happen next. It’s actually a struggle not to skip ahead and find out! Her latest book is the same way. What You Don’t Know, is another thrilling ride through a story filled with complex characters and clever twists.

The main characters are the Gilberts, Malcolm and Blair, who are going about their normal Saturday routine in suburban Chicago. The couple are a wildly successful pair and everything looks so normal and perfect - until they answer a doorbell that fateful morning. After that, nothing will ever be the same.

If some of this review sounds vague, it’s because I don’t want to spoil any of the revelations, which are paced nicely throughout the book.

The story is told in two distinct ways: through interviews with family, friends, law enforcement, etc. talking about the couple, their lives and “the incident.” But we’re not told any specifics at first. Those are revealed through the main storyline, which chronicles that fateful day in a more “traditional” narrative style. I loved this format because it felt like I was reading the novelization of a 20/20 or Dateline episode. And like with those shows, I was sucked in from the start.

The ending and its revelations were both brutal and satisfying, in that readers can look back and see the little clues stuck in there which reveal what’s going on behind the scenes. I think I actually said “Oooohhh!” Out loud at one point. It’s hard to say that you “like” an ending in stories like this, but I did think it was really good and creepy. Perfect for the story.

This book would be great for anyone looking for a thrilling action-packed novel that will make them think twice before answering the door.

Thank you to Kate Rock Book Tours and Bianca Sloane for the gifted copy.

Wow. I'm never answering the door again. Ever.

When Malcom Gilbert answers the door one Saturday morning, he wasn't expecting to be taken hostage by three perpetrators. And - he wasn't home alone, his wife and daughter were there too. It turned into a weekend of torture. Who was behind this, and why?

First of all, these three criminals were pieces of sh*t, with T being the biggest one. I hated him SO much - which is awesome because props to the author when they can make you hate a character. The other two were pretty bad, but they were the sheep just following along and quickly realized they were in a bit over their heads.

The chapters alternate between when happened inside the house that weekend and little snippets of information from outside people - family, friends, police, etc. The story slowly gets told as the book goes on, and by the end I was sitting with my mouth wide open and I almost threw the book across the room in anger - not at the author, but at what transpired.

This is a twisty book that will make you want to install a Ring doorbell and STILL not want to answer the door.

I read this book in roughly 24 hours, and when I was near the end I was carrying my Kindle around the house so I could sneak in a page or two because I had to get to the end, I had to know what happened. I actually turned the shower on and stood in the bathroom so I could read the last few pages. This book is that good.

Malcolm & Blair Gilbert are a wealthy couple living in an upscale neighborhood. He is a retired NFL quarterback, she is an ex-pop star. What should be a routine Saturday morning turns into a nightmare when Malcolm answers the door to find a stranger on the doorstep.

Being the murderino that I am, there were aspects of the story that reminded me of a true crime case from Connecticut. This story is NOT that story though. Believe me, this book is exactly the thrilling intruder story you need in your life. The narrative is told in alternating timelines; one follows what is happening in the house and the other storyline is a future perspective where the reader learns details about the Gilberts' past through interviews with family, friends and the detectives assigned to the case. Intensely cinematic and well-written, Sloane provides quite the thrill ride.

I learned about this book through writer Samantha Bailey, who raved about it, and I am so excited to have found a new horror author to follow, especially BIPOC horror author--which the world definitely needs more of.

This book was nothing like I’ve ever read before. The format was quite different and at first I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it. However I absolutely loved this book.

Its about a home invasion. Blair and Malcolm are supposed to be home alone for the weekend however their daughter came home last minute. This Deja Malcolm was trying to get out of the house to go golfing when someone knocked on the door. When he answered the door it was someone pretending to need to use the phone. When Malcolm wouldn’t let him in he forced his way in. As well as his two other accomplices. Malcolm being an ex-football star hopes he can talk his way out of this. He offers them everything he has in the house. It seems like they may take it, however will the green eyed monster want more.

This is everyone’s worst nightmare. Bianka touches on some very heavy topics within this book. I loved the interviews with the people that knew them. And within the investigation itself. This book is a five star read for me hands-down.

Trigger Warnings: multiple rape, physical violence, hostage situation

Are you ever scared to open the door when someone knocks?😳

Um I am, all the time, I’m a huge pansy! What You Don’t Know by Bianca Sloane was the thriller I never planned to read! Usually Alyssa handles all of the thrillers, the serial killers and the murder mysteries reviews!😅

This was my first book by @biancasloanesuspenseauthor and I can see why she’s so popular! She made one of my worst nightmares come to life in this book! I could NOT put it down! I devoured it in one frightened setting!

The Gilbert family is completely unprepared for what awaits them when Malcom Gilbert living in his gated affluent community, opens the door to three maniacs. His family is held hostage in their own home, under the most disturbing circumstances possible for the next 48 hours.

I struggled with some of the graphic scenes in this book, I would have covered my eyes at times if possible! If you’re looking for a thriller to start off the fall season, definitely go grab this as soon as you can! This publishes ‪on 9/29/20‬!!

Thank you @katerocksbooktours for gifting us this Advanced Reader’s Copy! We are so excited to be part of this awesome book tour!!

After reading this book, I will definitely be looking through the peephole before opening my door! This book was a fast paced thriller that I read in one day. The book alternates between the violence happening in their home to the interviews of family and friends. I can see this book being made into a CSI show. This is the first book I have read by Bianca Sloane and I am definitely checking out her backlist.

Whoa…this book was intense. It reminded me of an episode of Criminal Minds. And if you watched that show, you know it’s never a good ending. Malcolm and his family were unfortunately home when their doorbell rang. They never should have answered the door…

The writing style of this one was cool. It was told through a detailed timeline for the 48 hours of the event. But also, there were snippets from family, friends, neighbors, and the police. It was definitely different and was a nice flow for reading, kept changing it up and giving more details about the characters.

This story is not for the faint of heart so be prepared, and I read a lot of thrillers.

Gripping. I stayed up much too late on a work night to finish. I am ashamed to admit this is a first read of Sloane's work, but it will certainly not be the last. Much thanks for the introduction goes to the fabulous Cindy Roesel.

Brilliant original format: "interviews" laced between the narrative of a home invasion suffered by the Gilbert family who reside in an upper-crusty community outside Chicago. If you enjoy suspense/thriller fiction, then discover Bianca Sloane and her latest release, WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I read this suspense novel quickly as I loved the way the book alternated between the drama as it was happening and the post event interviews with family, friends, neighbours and law enforcement. Yes, the novel is sad, horrifying, shocking and possibly tough to read but is beautifully written. It certainly captivated me and although I recommended it to a friend who also loved the way the novel was written she had to stop partway through because she thought it was too sad to read in a COVID world. I would still recommend it to people who want a somewhat different style of a suspense novel.

Sometimes authors introduce new ways of storytelling that take readers out of the story. It takes real talent to use fresh mechanics to build suspense and flush out the plot. Bianca Sloane nails it in her latest release, What You Don't Know. The book is filled with breadcrumbs that leave you guessing at who is responsible for the crime, as well as dreading what comes next!

Another amazing book

I loved the style of this book. The chapters with exposition from other parties is a refreshing way of providing background to the story. The suspense ramps up steadily, leaving you needing to find out what happens next. This book is why I was reading at 3 in the morning on Boxing Day.
