Highlander Hunted

Rate this book
When Helena awakes in the Scottish moors near MacClaran Keep, centuries in the past, she finds a whole new way of life and becomes drawn into a mystery plaguing the local village.

Geologist and spelunker Helena’s interest in the rumored hidden cave system under the MacClaran Keep ruins leaves her stranded. When she awakes and finds herself, not in the cave, but out on the moors near the castle—which is whole and looks fairly new—she’s disoriented and terrified which sends her running headlong into Brendan MacClaran.

Brendan spends his days caring for and teaching the old Laird’s son, mourning the death of his beloved Brigid, who died six years earlier. When children start disappearing from the local village, he suspects the culprit isn’t fairie monster of Celtic legend—the Blank Annis—but rather his insane future mother in law, Anne.

When Helena—the reincarnation of Brigid—appears in the moors, Brendan can’t deny that the family curse has brought her back to him. Together, they must face their growing attraction and use Helena’s expertise to solve the mystery and find the missing children.

For Helena Crane, adjusting quickly to changes was not her thing. Finding herself in the past, constantly confused with another woman and with a horrible threat on everyone, was too much for her. Brendan MacClaran was still trying to get over the loss of his wife and he was seeing Helena as a second chance but the woman was full of doubts, did not feel useful and did not seem to understand that he was doing his part to make things work. The threat looming over them all had them confused and terrified. Will Helena be able to use her knowledge to face the monster? Despite Helena struggling with the emotions that the new situation had awakened in her, I consider her strong, determined and courageous. Exploring alone, with her knowledge as the only weapon to defend herself and facing the dire threat on them, are not things of a weak, unstable or incapable of change person. Her doubts towards Brandon seemed justified but understanding was also needed on her part to help Brendan. I was struck by the monster with a legend behind it and how the story was crafted together with the interesting twist that was given to it. Action, suspense, mystery, magic, strong feelings, emotional scenes, intriguing comments, violence, romance and passion.

An exciting, mystery, action filled and a magical ride to romance and danger. Helena time travel journey back in time in Scotland was lackluster. It was simplistic and had potential to have been more imaginative. The rest of the story was fascinating. Helena looked exactly like Brendan's dead wife Brigid. There was mutual attraction between the two but they had a lot of issues to iron out. It was a shame Helena did not get to spend more time with each of the other time travel women. Then the fear of some creature stealing baby sheep and then moving up their game to kidnapping children. Brendan and the time travel women came up with a plausible theory of what the creature was and why it did what it did. To end the reign of terror, the solution laid with Helena. Brendan opposed any option that would put Helena in danger. But in the end, it was the right choice and the ending was bittersweet and sad for the creature. Helena wept. In between all the running around after the creature Brendan and Helena were falling in love and decided to marry. An excellent story and a must read.

Annoying Punctuation Quirks But a Good Story and Excellent Characters

I've been reading books by this author for a long time, and I oftentimes have issues with them. I actually liked the story and characters in this novel and especially the immersive style of writing. But this book had some punctuation quirks that just made the writing too choppy and kept it from being as enjoyable as it should have been. For whatever reason, this author is enamored with using em-dashes and ellipses, often multiple times in a paragraph. So much shouldn't be parenthetical or set off like that. Other than that, though, I thought the characters were well imagined and relatable, and the semi-magical plot was a fascinating one. I enjoyed that the heroine’s unique skills and knowledge were key to resolving the external plot in this story. I liked how the heroine immediately met some of the other women who had traveled back through time in the previous books of the series.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

All of the time travel books by Rebecca Preston have great H/h, interesting storylines, action, drama, supernatural baddies, and steam. Brenden and Helena's story was a well paced page turner. Helena a amateur spelunker and a geologist, goes to Scotland on vacation to explore some sandstone caves. There are a lot of rumors surrounding the area about medieval witches that lived there and strange occurrences. While exploring, Helena finds herself thrown back in time to medieval Scotland and Brenden finds her disoriented in a field of sheep. Brenden is still recovering from the trial and execution of his wife for witchcraft and finding a women who is the spitting image of her is disconcerting. Together they come fight a supernatural enemies, local bullies, and backwards beliefs. The story grab you and held on from start to finish and I think one of my favorites. Great Read

This is the third Scottish Highlander time travel romance in this series and I have loved them all. It has great ch, romance and so much intrigue I couldn't put it down. She is a 2020 restaurant owner, who is failing, and goes to a Scottish castle to talk to a celebrity chef. She accidentally gets amnesia and touches a button that sends her back to 1308 Scotland. She doesn't know who she is and is hired by a Scottish laird's son as a cook. He has quit fighting and wants to stay at home at peace. She finally remembers she is from the future and wants to go back, even though she loves him. They had many obstacles to overcome, but th the ending was great.

Helena doesn't adjust easily to change and finding herself in a different time isn't easy for her. Since time travelers are becoming common in the area, it seems that it wouldn't be that hard for her to adjust but there are so many things working against her. She's in a new time, a new place and there's a new man - Brendan MacClaren. He's been mourning his wife and Helena brings new light into his world but she is the image of his dead wife come back to him. Together they'll have to overcome evil when village children start disappearing. There is a local myth about a monster and there also a crazy lady. Troubles are surrounding them and it won't be easy

This book 8 in the Highlander of Time series is a very well-written time travel romance story with wonderful characters that are very cautious. There is drama, intrigue, tension, turmoil, danger, and she looks like his lost love and that cause issues for these characters. This story has action, adventure, betrayal, twists/turns, chemistry and love with a HEA that must be worked for. These characters have wonderful personalities that are brought alive by this great Author who I will be reading more books by.

They thought the curse had ended but modern women are still appearing. Helena is going to Scotland for a much needed vacation. But while exploring caves near a ruin, there is a cave in, she falls asleep, and wakes up in fifteenth century Scotland. And sees a huge human like creature take a lamb and run away. She is found by Brendan MacClaren and taken to a castle where other modern women who have traveled back in time, tell her she has also and there is no way to go back. Now she has to find a place in this world, but what can a geologist do in fifteenth century Scotland? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

This is another great time travel story involving the MacClaren clan. Helena is a geologist and while on vacation in Scotland, she is transported back in time to the Scottish Highlands. As soon as she arrives in the past she is caught up in a mystery. Once she arrives at the castle, she has a bit of difficulty adjusting and finding where she fits in and how she can be useful in this century. The story has a full range of emotions and has some mystery and drama. The story is well written and flows easily with great characters. I always enjoy Rebecca Preston's books.

Another great book in this romance series. I love the myths explored in each book, and the community feel in the castle and surrounding farms and village. The feelIngs that each time traveller experiences when they arrive in this new time is very emotive, I think I would feel the same, but then a handsome man makes it so much easier. There is quite a group of these 21st century women now I look forward to who will join them next.

Okay I didn't think Rebecca Preston's Time Travel Romances couldn't get any better. I was wrong.

I love Rebecca Preston's writing style: So intricate, flowing and diverse. I was expecting this series to become boring. I still have another to read in the series! I majored in geology so this was a super read for me. Wasn't sure how this could pan out for the character. Just goes to show that there are strong men and women no matter what they do for a living. EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT FOR THE WORLD WE LIVE IN WHEN THEY FEEL THEY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

A very enjoyable book. I am choosing to post a candid review.

This is dramatic, suspenseful and romantic. When Brendan finds Helen and brings her back to the castle, Helen doesn't understand how she is alive in the past. And more disturbing, why people think that she is the wife of the man who found her. Both Brendan and Helen are likable and strong characters. The storyline grabs you from the start, and keeps you turning the pages until the end. These are all interesting books that are funny and intense, this book is just as good as the rest of them.

Everyone loves a good story from folklore. It’s even more exciting and intriguing when there is a mystery behind the legend. When children start disappearing is believed that one has come true. The story has suspense, an unlikely for seen villain and of course the heroine who is traveled back in time. Helena looked exactly like Brendan's dead wife Brigid Also puts a spin on things. Next book is waiting.

Great Story! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this historical time travel romance that has a wonderful plot line filled with the necessity of solving a mystery. There are scary bits in this tale and, of course, the angst between Helena and Brenden as they work out their attraction and Helena’s reluctance to come to grips with her travel back in time. ☺️

I enjoyed reading this story it starts with Helena and you learn about her why she goes to Scotland to and how she ends up back in time. I was drawn in to keep reading how she deals with it how she meets the other women from the future and how her relationship with Brendan develops. Love that when things take a turn she is able to put her skill as a geologist to help. I look forward to reading the next book Highlander Returned.

The book was fantastically written, even though it had a few gramatical and spelling errors. On page 442 though the thought wasnt completely finished at the bottom of the pafe before the next character spoke their piece on page 443. Character dynamics were well rounded out.

Another great addition to the series

This story is a great addition to the series. I am truly enjoying the series. This one gives us a view into more of the magic that is original and exciting. The heroes in this story proves that the magic will stand no matter what you do to defy it.

Highlander Hunted

When Helena somehow traveled hundreds of years into the past Brenden thought she was his dead wife come back. She looked just like her but most likely a descendant. Someone like a monster was eating the sheep then wanted the children. Helena found that it was thinking Helena was her long lost daughter. Helena faced it and it no longer was a monster.

Monster Beware

Even though this is Book 8 in the series, Rebecca Preston has been able to continue to add new elements to her stories. I truly enjoy reading about the hero's in these stories. She believes as I do that strong men can also have a softer side and be faithful to one true love.
