Against Regulations

Tori Keller can be called many things, but coattail rider isn’t one of them.

Kellers don’t quit. Kellers earn what they get. Valuable lessons her father made sure she learned at an early age. Being a woman candidate in the Chicago Fire Department isn’t an easy job. Being the daughter of the late Chief Keller, with the eyes of the whole department on her, is even harder.

Lieutenant Jon Nichols didn’t get a chance to thank his mentor for all he’d done for him before he died. So, when Chief Keller’s daughter is assigned to his command, Jon vows to train her to the best of his abilities, despite his growing admiration for the stubborn candidate and the strict non-fraternization regulations meant to protect them.

Faced with department politics and their own misgivings, Tori and Jon are drawn together even as they deny their growing bond. But as manipulations and regulations come between them, Tori relies on the lessons from her father to see her through. Because if she really wants the lieutenant, she’ll have to fight for him.

Kellers earn what they get, after all.

This book was a sweet surprise. It was heartwarming, realistic, simple and cute. I was smiling almost all throughout and the writing was pretty good too.

Jon was a softie and should be protected at all costs.😤 Tori was strong and so good :') - a little too stubborn (relatable ehh) and even though she frequently pushed him away in the book, I still believe that she deserves him and vice-versa. All the characters were good, with their sense of humor and easy conversation along with the supportive best friend vibe they had going (except for Davies, you'll see it when you read it).

Moreover, the book was all build-up, and what is generally termed as a 'clean' romance and I loved that!

The story was well tied but I did want the ending to be a little longer with a very much needed epilogue.

I am a little sad as the ending was more on the HFN side than on the HEA side - one could easily interpret it as an HEA buuut still, an epilogue that would affirm it would've been nice.

Awww que cosa tan más cute! 😍

*volver a insertar gif anterior*
(este punto se puede contraponer con mi primer afirmación de no toxicidad, pero ps es el 'villano' jajajaja los villanos de las historias tienen un poco de tóxicos siempre. 😅)

Against Regulations by Bex Jalise was a well written romcom I really enjoyed!

I devoured this touching and adorable read about a strong woman trying to succeed in a man’s world, and the politics of the Chicago Fire Department.

As a nurse working side by side with Firefighters and Paramedics, I loved reading about the day to day dynamics of the department.

This book had everything I enjoy in a romcom - the irresistible characters, a swoon worthy lead, and a heartwarming romance.

Hope you add this to your TBR!

Against Regulations by my beautiful friend Bex is out. This is Bex’s 4th book and they are all so well written. Bex is an amazing writer. I have cried in every one of her books.

“Kellers don’t quit.”

I am so grateful that I got to read this one early. Tori is someone who I definitely look up. She is the daughter of the late Fire Chief so people assume that she get’s off easy and gets special treatment. She works just as hard as the guys and makes it very clear that she doesn’t want to be looked at differently because of who her father was.

Lieutenant Jon Nichols, *swoon*, trained under her father but unfortunately couldn’t thank him for everything that he did. Tori got put under his command and of course, the sparks starts to fly but would this be the right thing to pursue?

Obstacles are obviously thrown Tori’s way but she can overcome everything. She is determined and strong. She is also stubborn but in a good way. She makes tough decisions but in a selfless way. I can 100% say that I would want Tori as my friend.

I also want to just say how much I love Bex’s friendship. One day she texted me telling me to grab my copy and read the acknowledgements. I of course had to do that then and then the squeal happened. She put me in her acknowledgments!! I can’t even bring to words how excited and grateful I am for her to have thought about me enough to say thank you for everyone to see.

Ya'll, this book tugged at my heart strings big time! This book tackled loss and grief, career development, perseverance, and of course undeniable love! I really enjoyed all of the characters in this book. They were so well developed and each one had something important to add to the story. Tori was definitely a feminine badass and I loved that so much! I love seeing stories about females growing their careers, especially ones in a "boy's world." I really want a sequel to this book because I want so much more from Tori and the lieutenant!

I’m a sucker for a cute romance. For the most part, I like my romances to have two main elements: 1️⃣ adorable characters you can route for and 2️⃣ a week bit of conflict (I don’t want to read about someone’s mushy perfect love story). Basically, I want my romance novels to read like Hallmark movies.

Against Regulations fit the bill perfectly. I really felt for Tori and loved that she was a strong no nonsense female lead, I like Jon and how respectable he was, and all the other characters fit into the story perfectly. I felt like you could really see the story building right in front of your eyes and while I knew exactly where it was going I was invested from the first page to the very end. This book was so cute I had a hard time putting it down and stayed up WAY too late trying to finish it.

If you’re looking for an adorable fast paced romance or you just love Hallmark movies, this one is one you need to add to your TBR list.

If he stayed on that road and followed the orders, everything became a crisp black and white. There was no gray area. Until Tori Keller walked into his firehouse, blurring all the straight lines with every step she took.

“The truth hurts only once. But a lie hurts every time you hear it.”

What an adorable romcom. It had irresistible characters, a fearless heroine, a swoony worthy hero, great secondary characters (except for a certain someone), a heartwarming romance. Jon and Tori were incredibly cute. I adore Tori’s relationship with the guys at the firehouse. I love reading about the day to day dynamics of the fire station. It gave me the Chicago Fire TV show vibes. The book tackled loss, grief, career growth, gender roles and heartwarming love. 4 stars.

The book hangover is real y’all! 🔥 I just finished reading Against Regulations and I can’t stop thinking about it!

This book hit all the marks for me... romance, action, suspense, life lessons, family dynamics! I mean, WOW! Not to mention the flirting back and forth between Tori and Jon had me laughing out loud and smiling like a goober 😂😅

🚒 🚒 🚒 🚒 🚒 🚒

My favorite scenes were when the firefighters got called to the burning buildings to fight the fires and rescue the victims. The action was exhilarating and the suspense had me holding my breath! The writing was so vivid I felt I was there with the firefighters in the blaze, crawling around the rubble.

Ok, we all know romance in the workplace can be dangerous, but how often could it actually mean life and death?? Well when you’re a firefighter, there are regulations in place for that very reason. ⠀

Tori is the daughter of a beloved late Fire Chief, but more than that she’s an up and coming firefighter herself, hell bent on making it on her own. If only she could stop thinking about Jon, the cute Lieutenant... and him her. ⠀

This book is cute! I’ll admit, at first I thought it was a little cheesy, but I quickly got into it. One thing I really liked about this book is that Jon was just as much a smitten kitten, if not more! I loved the chapters from his point of view and he was pretty much everything I want in a male lead (aka a smart and sexy firefighter👨‍🚒) I also appreciate that there was a legitimate conflict keeping them from being together. Y’all have heard me complain before about romance stories that make me want to roll my eyes and yell at them to just talk to each other. I didn’t have to do that with this one! I will say is that I wish there was a little more steam, and not from the fires if you know what I mean 😏⠀

Y’all get your sexy firefighter fix and check out this book!

As a former firefighter, I LOVED this book. I thought the story line was super cute and well written. It was a quick easy read which I like. The cover also draws you in and gives you a hint to what the book is about. I also love how true to certain scenarios they kept the book. Sometimes in TV shows etc they exaggerate things or don't get it right. At the end of this book there is a moment where the firefighter is trapped, and everything that happens is a real life scenario which I loved.
