Crowned as the first Hybrid Queen, my battle with Light and Dark has only just begun. Destroying the portal to the Light Fae Realm should have solved all my problems. No more pompous jerkwads telling us what to do, how to dress, how to live and how to die. Little did I know that by closing one door, I opened another, one that let the gorgeous King of Malice waltz right into my world…
And into my heart.
Steel has been with me all my life as a voice in the back of my mind, guiding me and helping me stay alive in this dying world. Sure, his methods are a bit unorthodox, but who am I to judge? It’s not like I have a flawless track record, given my history as top Malice Caster from the Dregs.
Lucas, however, is my sexy fae Prince of Light. He stayed behind when I closed the portal to his realm, knowing that it meant he’d never see his family again, all because he had to make sure I survived my ascension.
Now he wants to stand by my side and face the Darkness together.
Just like my heart, my body is split into two directions, one seeking the Light, and the other seeking the Darkness I’ve known all my life. I’m a Hybrid Queen, the first of my kind, and if I can’t learn to make Light and Malice coexist, I won’t be the only thing torn apart.

What a long wait since book 1, right? Well, it was reasonable, but it doesn't feel that way when I've been bouncing off the walls excited for this book since the day book 1 released and I devoured it within 24 hours.
I plowed through this one even faster. I was a little alarmed that it felt half the length of book one. Going back and looking at the pages of each on their Amazon pages, I realize that is totally the case and I'm not just crazy. So heads up there! This is much quicker than book 1!
That is, obviously, the only 'negative' thing I have to say about the book. She thankfully did a great job reminding me what happened in book 1 and wove it into the beginning in a natural way. Penne is still as spunky and awesome as ever, and so is Lucas and Steel. I LOVE how she's torn between the two. As she should be!! Would she be able to be a 'hybrid queen' if she had a clear preference for one or the other? Would it be realistic for her to turn her back on the malice that was a massive part of her entire life? To turn her back on the bond she'd already formed with Steel long ago? Lucas is a newer love interest... but that doesn't make their connection any less powerful!
I absolutely adore these characters, the world, the plot that keeps me aching for the next reveal! I'm already ready to BEG the author to prioritize book 3 so we can get it ASAP! This is my favorite recent series, so all the patience I regularly have is out the window!
Now to drown the pain of finishing this book by starting a new one...
This book a joke…too short, needed to be read through for editing, and don’t get me started on the “trying to make a love triangle thing”. Then to say I have to wait for a third book…yeah that ain’t happening. I feel like nothing happened in this book and it was just a mess. I would give this a one star if I could.
this should’ve been included in book 1 instead of as a novella. there’s very few answers and was generally pointless to read. it’s also been 2 years and no sign of book 3 so i assume the author’s given up on this series.
The first book piqued my interest enough to continue on. This one was a lot shorter and much faster paced. It almost felt like a novella. Penne struggles with who she is and is becoming, torn between light and dark. She’s now in a love triangle, if you could call it that. One guy she’s known for 3 weeks and has hated the idea of him all her life. The other guy was a voice in her head all of her life and didn’t know he was a real being, possibly her fated mate and the malice king/dark fae.
I wasn’t expecting the plot twist of the Light King and Malice king, so that was a nice surprise. But other than that, it was very predictable and didn’t have the oomph factor I need to grab me and suck me in to the story.
It was okay but I’ll be taking a break from this series and hopefully will come back to it again.
Spice 0/5 one kiss Plot 2/5 Magic 4/5 FMC growth 4/5 Mmcs 3/5 Love triangle 0/5 I hate them
This honestly felt like a novella with the length and filler plot line. I loved the first book. Thought the concepts were fun and creative. I’m a sucker for a love triangle and was looking forward to it progressing with this book but it just ended. Nothing concrete really happened. That was a lot of wait time for only 111 pages. It’s worse reading it on a kindle app because the book ends at 89%, so misleading. Now a whole year until a 3rd. Let’s hope I remember this series in 2023.
We finally get the 2nd installment and it’s over in a flash (I need more!)! 😩 Loved getting to read more in the world of Light and Malice and to see what Penne and the rest of the characters were up to! Lots of big decisions for Penne to make! Will she choose the light or the darkness? Lucas or Steel? 😬 I can’t wait to see what happens in the 3rd installment!! Thank you A.J. Flowers! 💜 P.S. I love the covers for the books!! They’re soooo pretty!
Where do we find Penne (Penny) at the start of the book and what is she feeling? What happened with Zizi? Oh goodness, how does Steel get out of the Malice Realm? What do we learn about Lucas's father? How does that change the narrative? What happens at the Sanctuary? When Lucas, Penne, Laurel, and Zizi return to the kingdom, what happens? What goes through Steel's mind when he talks to Penne? I cannot wait to see what happens in book three!
While the story is good and continues along the same story line as the first book, the first was 300 pages verses this books 99. I finished it in an hour and honestly there wasn't much of a climax to it. It was build up... build up... Over. It was very disappointing. I will still be reading book three when it comes out, but I was still disappointed
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great drama and romance with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I love the characters, I love the story and I love the world
My only issue is it’s a very short read it’s more of a novella
I like a bit more romance between our main characters I think this one just fell a little bit flat for me but I look forward to book 3 perhaps this one is just meant to be a filler!
Crown Princess Academy: Book 2 by A.J. Flowers a lovely story. This is book number two in this wonderful series that I am hooked on and can not wait to read book number three. This book may have been a short read but it had a lot going on and I highly recommend this story to all.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
Right in line with the first book, everything was impeccable! Timing, characters, suspense, you’ve got it all! I will say, the second potential love interest is definitely a place where readers may have opposing views, and I completely understand Penne’s struggles. Desperately awaiting the third book now!!
I'm so torn between Steel and Lucas! I absolutely devoured this one, and I can't wait to read more about the new hybrid queen Penne is becoming and the pull between Light and Malice. I need #3 yesterday.
I'm so impatient for the next book! I need to know what is going to happen with Penne, Lucas, and Steel. This book takes us through so much of the final choosing, the king's plans, and the choices Penne has to make.
Absolutely invigorating read it cannot possibly wait for book 3
The ending leaves you desperate for more! I truly love how the first two books have kept me turning pages just hoping for answers but never wanting it to end.
More of a filler book, not much of a plot to this book and I feel like it could have been split in half so its contents was between book one and the third one coming out.
