Johnny Maverick is a lot of things.
Great hockey player.
Loyal friend.
Rule breaker.
Always up for a good time.
And now, he’s my new roommate.

It’s only for a few weeks while I intern for the Wildcats—his new NHL team.
And there are some pros to living with my hot and ridiculous friend (or is that ridiculously hot?). He’s fun and unexpectedly sweet, and he reminds me not to take myself too seriously.

I had no intention of breaking the one rule given to me on my first day on the job: no sleeping with the players.

And if I had, I never dreamed that player would be Johnny Maverick.

I wanna kiss you until I lose my breath.

To say that I am obsessed with MavKota would be an understatement. It’s been love since first banter for me, and every game of sardines since I’ve been hoping they’d get caught smooching. Well, it’s all happening and in much better ways than I could have ever imagined.

Ms. Jenshak provides the tropes in spades with Wild Love. Dakota is working and living with Maverick, so we get secret relationship, friends with benefits, forced proximity, and friends to lovers realness. I’m not going to spill too much, because I want there to be some surprises and newness for anyone reading this, but I will just say I absolutely LOVED their story. It was so perfect and true to them. I just loved how I felt giddy as they fell, and I felt the pure heat when they.. well you know.

While the love story is always most important, Rebecca always nails the friendships and family dynamics in her books. The way she makes the stories feel so deep because she really gives you such a layered approach to each character and why they are the way they are. I’m guessing it’s probably because I grew up with an “unusual” family dynamic that I appreciate that Ms. Jenshak gives light to parent relationships/dynamics that aren’t always conventional. And also the love she pours into the found family of the entire series friend group. Agh. I can’t say enough about how much I love the worlds that she creates.

Honestly, when I finished reading this one I felt a little bit how Dakota felt in this book, bittersweet at a new chapter, because it’s the last book in the Campus Night series (I think), so it feels like the end of something special. And obviously I’m so excited for what is coming next, but I always miss the found friend families she creates with each series when we move to the next crew.

Anyway. If you love hockey romance or just college romance period, then you absolutely need to read this book and the rest of the Campus Nights series. Get on it.

Dakota Lawrence attends college in Arizona at Valley University. She has a wonderful friend group who are all in love, and she feels like the only single one left. Well her and Mav. Johnny Maverick is the other single one of their friends. He's charming, gorgeous, playful, cocky, sweet, loyal and fun is his only mode. He enjoys being the center of attention, and everyone likes to be near him. He's unconventional, spontaneous, and known for his over the top shenanigans. He's lived downstairs for the last two years and always entertains her with his sexy banter and shameless flirting. He hits on her on the regular, and she continues to reject him. They are just too different, and wouldn't make sense or be a good match. He's a rule breaker who lives for the moment and doesn't take anything seriously, and she knows what she wants and it's not a casual hookup. She seems to be the only girl at Valley U that is immune to his charms, but then an exciting opportunity presents itself that she can't pass up. It puts her in close quarters with Mav, and she can no longer avoid all the hotness that is Johnny Maverick. She'd never want to risk their friendship, but their insane chemistry has hit its boiling point. Summer is flying by, and she's through denying herself. When they finally give in to temptation and explore what's between them will they only be friends with benefits, or will they share a lasting connection and something real?

-Johnny Maverick is a good-looking guy.

-From his dark hair to his smile to the tattoos... oh the tattoos. He's chef's kiss perfction if we're going just by the hot scale. I couldn't build a better guy.

-Maverick has this way about him that, despite all reasoning, he makes people feel important and seen. Or he does me, anyway.

5 Wild Stars

I couldn’t have loved Dakota and Maverick more. Truly. This had all the feel good friends lover moments with great steam. Rebecca Jenshak delivered with this standalone hockey romance.

Johnny Maverick is athlete hero PERFECTION. Of course, he has all the physical attributes we love in a hero, BUT he is charismatic. His live in the moment, life of party attitude is contagious and you want to soak it all up. I blame no one for falling under the Maverick effect.

Dakota was great. I loved her as a heroine, and her need to prove herself admirable. Her inner conflict was real and authentic, and I loved how it played into her relationships with Maverick.

I couldn’t get enough of these two. They are magic brought to life - the romance, the fun banter, the charming absurdity of Johnny, the steam. It was all entertaining. I devoured this book in one sitting, and my heart just felt full with them.

Sports Romance. Friends to lovers. Sweet and steamy. Wild Love is nothing short of perfection.

Mine. One word that sums up exactly how I feel about her.

4.5 stars!

This was such a sweet and fun finale to another great hockey series by Rebecca Jenshak! I fell in love with Johnny Maverick as soon as we met him in Heath and Ginny's book as he's such an easygoing and carefree person. Throughout the series, we've gotten to see different sides of Maverick, but I think my favorite persona of his is the version we see when he's with Dakota. Dakota is a very no-nonsense heroine, but she manages to balance out Maverick's wild persona so perfectly. I really loved them together--how Dakota supports Maverick fully and how proud Maverick is of everything Dakota has accomplished. It was bittersweet seeing all our happy couples one last time--and even seeing Wes again--but I am so stoked to see the Wildcats fall in love next! ♡

Surprise, surprise. I like Wild Love more than I expect. It is cheesy and typical sport romance but hey, I am in the mood for something cheesy anyway.

I am glad Miss Jenshak stays true to her NA theme story. It is what she always done best.

MAV! My goodness- MAVERICK IS EVERYTHING! Never before has a love story been so perfectly crafted for the character that inspired it. Rebecca delivered everything I wanted and more for this book- heat, playful antics, flirty charm, and so much swoony magic. I can not wipe the smile off my face- Wild Love is simply perfect. My favorite Rebecca Jenshak book to date!

Okay, not gonna lie, coming into this story I loved Maverick something fierce. I was wildly protective over him- he was like this perfect little diamond, and while I knew RJ would do him justice, I was so nervous. I had SO much anticipation, so many expectations- but OH MY GOODNESS. RJ delivered perfectly on everything I wanted and more. She transformed this fun loving, comedically perfect side character into the pitch perfect leading man. All while keeping the ESSENCE of Maverick, everything that we’ve loved and adored. Rebecca just enriched it- she gives him more substance, more depth, and SO MUCH FREAKING HEART. AND HE IS EVERYTHING. Rebecca didn’t try to change him, tame, or reform him- instead she found the perfect heroine to match him, giving him the perfect match to take his wildness, his magical energy that has been the heart of so many of these stories. He’s so very Maverick still- but matured, a man who loves, a man whose wildness has more purpose. He has all the swagger, all the charm, all the humor, but we also understand his heart and soul in a way that was so compelling. Rebecca perfectly let him grow up, without losing everything that we love about him. AND HE IS THE SWOONIEST, SWEETEST, SEXIEST leading man RJ has ever written. I legit am obsessed with this man- his sincerity, his heart, his playfulness make him the perfect book boyfriend. And I’m not sure any other leading man will rival him.

But Kota was the real surprise for me in this story- I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to feel about her, but I ADORED HER. RJ helps us see her in a totally new way. The contrasts of her confidence and insecurities, her bite and her gentleness, the vitality to her paired with her stoic focus. She’s just really likable- the kind of girl you’d want to be besties with, but most importantly, she sparkles as much as Maverick. She’s a powerful enough character to not be dwarfed by his magic- she accentuates it, and he accentuates hers. She brings out the best in him, in part because she SEES the best in him, she sees what others (or he himself) doesn’t see- and she loves him for all that makes him special, not in spite of what others see as too much to handle. She ended up being more than worthy for our Mav, and I’m so glad she was his one/his home.

The chemistry- CHEF’S KISS. My goodness, I could not turn the pages fast enough. I knew this book would be sexy, but it is the emotional moments that consumed me most. RJ has always been one of the most skilled romance writers in the field when it comes to friends to lovers stories- but this one really takes the cake. I was salivating for the sweet heart-to-heart moments these two had, because they were just SO perfect. These two seem like the oldest friends- and there is such an ease to the way they interact. And there’s an ease to the pace and plot, a natural authentic flow- that really mimics their relationship. Yes, we have bumps and drama, but everything just clicks so well together. We have the right amount of bonding and emotional connective tissue early on, tons of sexual tension and emotional longing, and every moment between them feels both substantive and light. They are two of the most perfectly matched characters I’ve ever read, because they genuinely feel like the best of friends. It’s no wonder I’m so obsessed with them! And the ending was about the swooniest thing I’ve read- I teared up just from the magic of it. Perfect for them, perfect for this series.

And the crew we’ve come to know and love make perfect appearances. Not only do we get tons of scene stealing cuteness from Mav’s dog Charli , but we get to catch up with all our favorite couples, each getting a moment to shine, all sprinkling in their HEA bliss. It was bittersweet magic- because I have just LOVED this story so much. It’s the perfect romance series- sweet, swoony, endearing, funny, and brimming with romantic chemistry. And I’m not ready to say goodbye to any of them. Even if I’m deliriously excited for the stories of the new characters we meet in this book.

But alas, it is time to say goodbye, and I could not imagine a more perfect farewell. This series will forever be a favorite- and Rebecca Jenshak has elevated her writing to a whole new level with it. I am madly in love with every single character, every story, every word, and even if these college years have ended, I know I’ll be revisiting them often.

Here we are at the end of another amazing series written by Rebecca Jenshak, I think she couldn't have written a better story to say goodbye to these special group of characters.

For Maverick has arrived the time to say goodbye to his college friends because he has signed with the hockey team of Minnesota Wildcat. While he is happy to go and start his professional career he is also sad to leave the family he chose years before, so when the occasion raise he recommend his friend, Dakota, for a Summer internship with his new team. Dakota is extatic for this job and immediately accepts. She will do what she loves and she will spend more time with Maverick.

Maverick is easygoing and generous, he often acts without thinking but he never acts to be mean. Dakota is smart and lovely, she is a very organized woman and at times she overthinks instead of letting go. They seem to be pretty different but I assure you they are perfect together, their friendship is easy and funny and the chemistry is just off the charts though.

I loved everything about this book, I can't recommend to read it enough.

4.5 stars! This was super cuuuuute! This is a standalone part of the Campus Nights series, which I feel like is so underrated! This is a college, sports romance series and this one is friends to lovers with lots of forced proximity.

Johnny Maverick is a hockey player at Valley U who recently got signed on to the Wildcats hockey team. He’s a bit of a playboy, a great friend, and a great hockey player! Dakota is his friend and I loved their friendship together. He ends up getting her hooked up with an intern job for the team and they travel together and get moved in at the same time. All their closeness and spending time together was so fun, when he meets her dad it was so cute too! There is a bit of a rule breaking moment since she’s not supposed to date players of the team while working for the team and they start secretly hooking up! Plus a fun spin to their situation happens on a trip too! 👀

The audiobook was so fun! Just such an underrated series by this author that I’ve had a fun time with.

Note to self:

According to my dearest Chris, the heroine keeps suggesting having threesoms with the MMC because he is a manwhore (and she is as well) but she thought he'll stay with her if she's open to this 🙄

Hands down the best book of the series.

Maverick has been around since the beginning, shirless and without a care in the world–no one deserves his name like he does. Book after book, even while showing his playboy ways and his apparently simple mind, he’s also become more and more complex. We finally see him in all his glory in this book, and there’s definitely more behind the careless attitude. What an unforgettable character!

His story with Dakota, that took a serious turn in the previous book, was fun and sexy, as should a summer fling be. But, there’s a but. Or a couple. First of all, they’re friends, the kind that is comfortable enough with each other that they call each other out on their shit, but that share respect and affection and help each other out. Then they open up to each other, and what should have been pure attraction becomes more. In other words, their relationship is much more than just a fling, and I loved how it was depicted, how it was developped.

They each had their family history that influenced their love story one way or another. The whole story was well thought out, with details and hints at the beginning of the book making sense later, through intricate plotlines. The characters were consistent, and they had their own voice. Good writing.

With Maverick starting his professional athlete career, we meet with the Wildcats who will obviously become the center of the author’s next series, and I can’t wait!

A succession of beautiful, hilarious, tender, hot, serious, tragic, moments, this book won’t leave you indifferent, that’s for sure.

3.5 Stars 🌟

Wild Love is book 4 in the Campus Nights series. It can be read as a standalone but I  highly suggest reading the previous books as the Main Characters feature heavily in all the stories.

This is a friends to lovers, new adult, hockey/workplace romance with a slight hidden/forbidden aspect to it. The book follows (Johnny) Maverick and Dakota who have had sort of a 'will they won't they' style flirtation.

It was a quick and easy, flirty, funny and steamy romantic story but at the same time I found it to be a little lackluster. I've been anticapting Maverick's story since the very beginning and I was left feeling a little underwhelmed. I still enjoyed the book but found a lot of it predictable and was just expected more from it.

This series as a whole is still a favourite of mine and I genuinely reccomend it  to anyone who loves new adult sports romances.

“He’s going to make me beg.And I will.He was right. Damn him“

I don’t even know where to begin. Maverick is just too much to handle.

I was on a rollercoaster of emotions for the entire time. Every chapter is filled with so much fun, passion, feelings . I can’t even put into words how good this book is.

Jonny and Dakota they just fit together . They make sense, it’s like they were waiting for each other this whole time. And once they had the opportunity to spend some quality time just the two of them the sparks were fling from every angle.

This is hands down the best story between all the Campus Nights series books.

The chemistry between them was all around the place, it was explosive.

“I’m going to have a mark for sure.His. And I like it a little too much.”

And yes there’s a pretty interesting PLOT TWIST that’s totally in Maverick styles. I just loved every second of it.

This ride will leave you speechless and with a major Jonny Maverick-bookhangover

I won’t spoiler anything but I’ll tell you this: you should definitely buckle up.

“I wanna kiss you until I lose my breath.“

I gave it absolutely 5 stars.

4.5 AHHH this book was so good. I absolutely LOVED Dakota and Maverick, they were so fun and so cute. Also loved the Wildcat hockey crossover. Maverick and Dakota have been a constant in the previous Campus Night series. He always flirted with her, and while never shying away from other women, he always put his friends first. After the last book I cheered for them to be together. I'm not sure if Rebecca planed it that way from the beginning or the characters took this turn on their own.

"Life is a series of events that you can either let push you down or shrug them off and move on. "

That my friends, is Johnny Maverick giving advice, and it was a beautiful thing to discover along Kota, that there's so much more to his playboy persona.
This is a friends to lovers slow burn romance, their banter and flirting totally makes up for the lack of relationships. The anticipation was so high, and when they finally gave into their attraction is was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
When Maverick goes to play pro hockey for the Minnesota Wildcats, he is sad to leave his friends behind, and being the good friend he is, he can't leave without meddling one more time and help Dakota out with an internship she wanted but didn't get.
Living away from their other friends, these two start spending more time together. That attraction that was simmering between them in the past grows stronger, but Kota refuses to act on it.

"He lives in the moment and doesn't take anything seriously. I want more than that."

I loved Dakota, she's fiercely independent and loyal to her friends . She knows what she wants and doesn't mind working hard to achieve it.
She never judged Mav for who he was/is accepting him as he came, that's why, while I do understand that his past behavior wasn't the best vouch for him being boyfriend material, I think that it was more about her fears. Maverick also didn't make it easy, by not voicing his feelings, but he did try and he didn't loose his humor while doing it. This book is full of laughter and good times, wild times, and of course their a plot twist I didn't see coming!!!

" Mine. One word that sums up exactly how I feel about her."

That being said, we all need a Maverick in ours lives...

Dakota and Maverick have the perfect friends to lovers story line.

Dakota has the practical head not wanting to ruin what they both have or her new internship for the Wildcats where Maverick plays. Maverick knows that no one would be able to top Dakota if he was every lucky enough to get his chance with her and truly blur them lines.

Obviously, he takes matters into his own hands and uses his charm to erase the line they've drawn.

I think I've said this about each lad every time a new book released in the series but hands down Jonny Maverick is my absolute favourite guy in this series.

He's the perfect mix of sweet, funny, charming and dominating. I really did not expect that dominating side to him but I instantly became addicted to it.

I cannot wait for the spin off series with the other Wildcat boys because I am addicted to Rebecca's hero's.

"'My mom always wanted a pink couch. I have no idea why. It was a running joke every time we picked out new furniture.' She plays with the hem of her shorts, staring down at the material between her fingers as she continues. 'The day she found out her cancer had returned, she went straight from the doctor's office to the furniture store. I came home from school, and she was sitting on it and just smiling. She died two weeks later.'
'I'm so sorry.' I cover her hand with mine.
She lets out an uncomfortable breath and nods. 'It is pretty uncomfortable.'
'The worst,' I admit. 'But I dig it. My parents were all whites and grays. I like color.'
She squeezes my fingers. 'How come you don't have any colorful tattoos?'
I scan my arm. I'd never thought about it before. 'I guess I'm whites and grays too.'
'Oh no.' She smiles. 'You are a pink couch. Not quite right, but all about making people happy.'"

My only criticism I will ever have of this book is that it isn't 4000 pages longer. Johnny Maverick is the book boyfriend to end all book boyfriends, good luck ever finding a better one!

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m certain that anyone reading Rebecca Jenshak’s Campus Nights series was ready for Johnny Maverick’s story. As the women of their friend group were whittled down in pairings to the guys in the friend group, it was clear that Dakota would be the last woman standing for Maverick. Anyone ready for Wild Love was anticipatory for their pairing because (1) Maverick didn’t seem like the “settling down type,” happy to continue his extracurricular activities and (2) Dakota, a challenge to Maverick, but also incredibly sensible wouldn’t be bowled over by all that is Johnny Maverick.

So Jenshak had a task ahead of her: to make Maverick and Dakota more than friends. In Wild Love, she does this brilliantly, isolating them, turning them into roommates, and creating a secret wedding in Vegas to help them fall in love. Even more, it introduces new characters into Jenshak’s romance universe, igniting a brand new hockey romance series, one that this reader is excited for, especially in the promise of one Jack Wylde.

Wild Love is a perfect ending to the Campus Nights series. It brings all of the characters from those stories together (I would still love a novella for Heath and Ginny and Reagan and Adam...we need some marriages). I will say that there were times with Wild Love where I struggled with Dakota and Maverick’s chemistry, and this had more to do with Maverick’s characterization than Dakota’s. Maverick is such a “feel good” kind of hero that emotional gravitas seems to escape him. Even with a past that includes parents who struggle to love him as himself, I wanted a bit more emotionally from Maverick sooner in the story. Jenshak gets us there, but it takes most of the story to do so. Even then, it’s couched in Maverick terms.

Thankfully, Maverick’s want to give Dakota the world creates a story ending that is a true fairytale. I love how he loves her, and Dakota is worth every bit of it. Through Dakota, Jenshak infuses some real-world issues relating to sexual harassment. It adds depth to Dakota and Maverick’s story.

Wild Love is simply the best introduction to Rebecca Jenshak’s forthcoming Wildcat Hockey series. If you read Wild Love, and you don’t fall in love with Maverick and Dakota, then you need to see a heart doctor...because it’s sweet, steamy, and a chef’s kiss ending for the Campus Night’s series.

Rebecca Jenshak is back in the Campus Nights world for Wild Love. It’s an awesome series and this was an amazing addition. If you haven’t read the series, it can still be read as a standalone. Although, I would recommend you read the other ones before, because you get a better idea of Johnny and Dakota’s relationship throughout the other books.

Johnny and Dakota have been friends for years. When Johnny drops out of school early to start his NHL career, he moves across the country to his new team. Dakota is looking for an internship and she finds one at the same NHL team for the summer. There’s quite a few unique circumstances and maybe some external pressures that had to happen to get them in the same place. But, maybe the timing is finally right for them to go from friends to more. Unfortunately, they are not allowed to date each other per company policy.

This was such a fun, forbidden friends to lovers. I’ve been hoping Dakota and Johnny would get together in the other books and it was so worth the wait. We get to see all our characters from the previous books and add a couple new interesting ones. The friendships between the guys and the girls was my favorite part. I love their bond so much! It sounds like we’re getting a new series from some of the new characters introduced in here and I cannot wait! I’d recommend this sweet, friends to lovers sports romance.

Dakota is offered the internship of a lifetime for the Minnesota Wildcats. Best part? Johnny Maverick, one of her closest friends, signed with them and will be moving the same time she needs to report for her first day. While everyone she loves is coupling up she feels a bit adrift so this summer internship is just what she needs. What she wasn't expecting was to fall for Mav.

This one was so bittersweet. I was beyond excited to read it but really didn't want to leave the Campus Nights world. I have really grown fond of this group so I am sad to say goodbye. But we say goodbye in a really fantastic way. Mav and Kota were so much fun. I loved them so much. Mav was always the fun loving and easy going one of the group but we got to see such a different side to him and I loved every second of it. He was so much more than I saw in the previous books. I don't want to be too spoilery but the way that he made everyone he loved feel worthy and seen . . . gah, heart melted. Kota was so strong and independent, I loved her so much. I loved how she wanted to make her own way. I loved the push and pull and the banter between them. These two were so perfect together.

Definitely the best book of this series, I was hoping for Maverick and Dakota to be paired since the first book even though they barely had any interactions. Maverick and Dakota's story was pretty sweet, fun and low on drama I enjoyed it a lot. It was a cute friends to lovers slow burn. I loved them. I would've given it five stars if I liked the ending and didn't think it was rushed.

Spoilers ahead:

I didn't like they got married like that and so soon. The relationship was fairly new. Otherwise the book was pretty cute

I loved Maverick from the first book in the Campus Nights series and there was nobody better made for him than Dakota. The push and pull between them ramped up the tension in this friends to lovers romance. Seriously, these two are perfection together and I could not get enough.

“He’s going to make me beg. And I will. He was right. Damn him.” —Dakota Lawrence

“I want her. Not just for the summer. Longer. So much longer. And I’m tired of not being able to tell the world.” —Johnny Maverick

Well, this was... something. I’ve been waiting for Maverick and Dakota’s story since the very beginning bcs their banter has been teasing us from book two or one even?!?!? So yeah, I went in with high hopes. And while Wild Love was definitely enjoyable, I couldn’t shake the feeling of being a little conflicted. Somehow it felt both too slow and too rushed, like the pacing couldn’t decide what it wanted. It’s not the perfect finale, but it still wraps up the series in a satisfying way.

Wild Love is trope-packed in the best way, forced proximity, friends with benefits, secret romance, and a slow-burn friends-to-lovers arc that hits just right. Dakota and Maverick living and working together sets the stage for tension, chaos, and undeniable chemistry. Dakota’s no-nonsense attitude balances Maverick’s carefree charm so perfectly, and watching them fall for each other felt natural, giddy, and emotionally charged. The way she supports him, and how proud he is of her makes me melted. he romance had potential, especially with the slow-burn setup, but the third-act drama hit out of nowhere and wrapped up just as fast. There were several almost-conflict threads that felt like they were building toward something, only to be dropped or left unresolved. Sure, it made the plot unpredictable, but the lack of follow-through made the ending feel too abrupt for me. Aside from the plot, Maverick’s layers really come through here, especially in how he shows up for Dakota. Their story is sweet, steamy, and full of heart especially when it come to his quotes for her

“Mine. One word that sums up exactly how I feel about her. Mine, not because I want to keep her all to myself (though for the rest of the night that’s exactly what I plan to do), but because there’s no piece of her that I don’t want to know. I want all her words and every inch of her body. Her thoughts, her dreams, all her fantasies. I want to know them, and I want to make them come true for her.”

Rebecca Jenshak also continues to excel at building worlds that feel lived-in. The friendships and found-family dynamics are warm and grounding, and her take on unconventional family relationships adds depth without ever feeling forced. The girl gang once again stole the show. I absolutely adored how they continued to support each other, even from a distance. Their unwavering loyalty, mixed with their chaotic matchmaking energy, added so much warmth and charm to the story. Likewise, I want to acknowledge Connor Crais and Elizabeth Louise for narrating this book. I adored how brilliantly they brought the characters to life and captured their emotions with such clarity and depth.

Overall, this series completely owned me and I have zero regrets duh. 😩💘 From chaotic romance arcs and sharp banter to slow burns that hit right in the feels, every couple brought something magnetic. The found family energy was flawless, serving up comfort, loyalty, and just the right amount of chaos. Each book was a rush of serotonin, packed with spice and tension that kept me hooked from start to finish. If you’re craving sports romance with swoony moments, emotional messiness, and unforgettable bonds, this series is a must-binge! 🏒🩷💜❤️🩵

Now, now, do I dive into the Holland Brothers next or sprint straight into Wildcat Hockey? Both are screaming for attention and I’m emotionally compromised by the possibilities. My binge-reading agenda is pure chaos and I’m thriving in it. Wherever I land, it’s guaranteed to be messy, swoony, and absolutely worth it. So yeah… let’s see where I end up next! 👀💥🏃🏻‍♀️🧨
