Amazing premise but poor execution.
It could’ve been so amazing but sadly the plot and writing were lacking.
Everything happened really fast between Eli and Brandi, one moment he was one of the worst a-hole I’ve ever met, and next he was this sweet caring bf, please explained to me how this happened tho.
I’m still confused about how and when they fell in love with each other, I’m trying to get my head around this but I really can’t believe in their love story.
Brandi is a strong and confident woman and frankly she deserved much better than this misogynistic and slightly racist/ignorant love interest.
The smut was definitely amazing and the only highlight of this novel.

2.0⭐️ *I tried, and I tried, and I tried some more, but I just couldn’t really understand Eli Richardson. Because of credible threats against Eli, he needs a bodyguard until the threat is neutralized. His staff assistant finds the best of the best, Brandi Cruise, former military and highly qualified as a bodyguard. Eli lost his ever-loving mind. He is rude, vulgar and says downright ugly, sexist and disrespectful things—all because he wants a male bodyguard. But, he has the audacity to allude to other sexual things for which Brandi might prove useful. Eli throws f-bombs as freely as water flows. Understandably, Brandi walks out. As certain circumstances unfold and Eli’s mother is attacked, Eli begrudgingly accepts Brandi as his bodyguard. She is in charge of putting a security team together and is tasked with being by Eli’s side 7 days a week and on-call whenever it became necessary. She was required to stay at his estate. Brandi’s ultimate career goal is to get into the secret service. Therefore, she would do the job she was tasked to do.
Initially, I liked and admired Brandi. In fact, I still do to some extent. She is a strong black woman, she is respectful without being subservient, she executes her job with the utmost professionalism, and she is a real kick-ass woman. All the while, Eli is wearing her down with vile sexual innuendo when he doesn’t even know her. To my utter dismay and amazement,, Brandi capitulates, and she and Eli have sex—people, It ain’t pretty. There is spanking, choking on Eli’s d*ck, which he thinks is such a turn-on. I really hated some of the sexual encounters between them. I would put this in the erotic category.
What really is perplexing to me is HOW, WHEN and WHY Eli and Brandi fell in love. I’ve tried to catch some glimmer of it happening, but I fail to see it—at all! Yes, there was enough lust to fill the ocean, but love . . . .
I never did come to like Eli. I felt like slapping the shit out of him. A man who rotates women once a month on HIS schedule (right along with his scheduled business meetings), has (f*ck) after their names. and he only wants to get his rocks off but have no further use for these rotated women. Eli does and says the most scurrilous, offensive and lewd things in this book, that try though I might, I could not like him. I was extremely disappointed in Brandi, but the choices were hers to make.
Damn, I really wanted to like this book. The emotions and motivations of the MC’s just do not make any sense to me. Things are just too baffling and incomprehensible. Further, those pesky editing issues, mainly missing or wrong words, are problematic. I just know some of you will disagree with me on this (I’ll read some of the reviews after I post this). Oh well, different strokes for different folks as the old saying goes.

Eli Richardson (Trent's cousin) is a rich, arrogant workaholic. When he's asked to consider hiring a female bodyguard to protect him, his male chauvinism rears its ugly head, but Brandi Cruise quickly shows him she can more than handle her own. Brandi is steadfast and not easily ruffled, so Eli does and says things to get under her skin--it doesn't work--until it does. Of course, one taste is not enough for Eli, who has to compete against Brandi's sense of duty (rightly so) and her ultimate ambition to be a Secret Service Agent.
Xyla does it again, Eli embodies all the traits of an Uber Alpha Male you want to club, then love as only she can (imo) write them. He's another favorite, straight no chaser all man that knows what he wants and how to get it, and he does get it.

I would like to recommend this book as an enjoyable read. Xyla Turner is one of my favourite authors. Her stories reaches the parts that other stories cannot reach. :) I love how she writes her leading men. They just become full blown gung-ho for the women they love or want to be with. I also love female bodyguard stories. This is such a story. I absolutely loved it.

Great read
It’s a spin off so I was already familiar with the format. Eli and Trent have very similar personalities. What I particularly enjoyed is that both Eli and Brandi are very self assured. There were no immature silliness and games. It was refreshing. Maybe because of their ages and background they were both focused, ambitious and loyal. I loved Eli’s directness. He didn’t want to settle down but after talking to Trent, he opened himself to the possibility and went for it and stayed the course. He made his intentions crystal clear. As for Brandi, I loved her ambition and dedication. The book touched on important topics like stalking, PTSD, and compromise. His heavy handedness re her Secret Service application could have really broken them but I appreciated how the author got them talking there and then and compromising. No unnecessary drama. The appearance of the other protagonists from the main series didn’t feel forced. Overall enjoyed it.

Enjoyed!
I loved Eli and Brandi storyline , the relationship between the main two characters was good. I thought they had some funny parts,and I would recommend this book. The story is short they have three examples of Xyla other books.

I really did enjoy Eli and Brandi’s story. Xyla Turner did an amazing job as usual. I so love when I get glimpses of my other favorite couples Trent & Bernie, Duncan and Portia etc. This book is a must read just like the others.

Great cast of characters. Wonderful writing. So happy I gave this book a chance and overlooked the negative comments. I would have missed out on a great enemies to lovers romantic comedy.

Just when I thought Xyla couldn’t make me love a Richardson as much as I love Trent, she drops Eli in my lap. I love that this story gives the heroine a unconventional career. She’s the body guard for the hero. Brandi is dead set on proving herself to her boss and to the people around her because she’s got a plan. One that she’ll be a shoe in for if she’s successful at keeping the business man and his mother safe. I don’t want to give much away, but this story is suspenseful and hot. You also get to see familiar faces, which is always a treat. A wonderful read!

Another One!
Eli Richardson, cousin to Trent, same damn mouth! Eli needed a personal body guard due to receiving death threats, but definitely didn't want a woman. Much to his chagrin, a woman was what he got because she was the best. Brandi, needed to guard a VIP to further her career, and wouldn't settle for anything less. The explosive chemistry between the two leads to explosions in the bedroom. But their wedding took me all the way out. I laughed so hard, I cried. This book was good, exciting, and funny Great job!!

This book is so good. There is a great plot, easy to follow chapters and the hotness was off the chain. It has a little bit of everything mixed in, intrigue, romance, sexiness, drama, that Alpha man and a little comedy was thrown in by way of character interaction. The author did her thing with this one. I am in love with this series and I know you will be too. I highly recommend this read.

I like Brandi. She was interesting. A bit disappointed how quickly she let herself fall for Eli. It's like one minute he was a client she treated professionally, and then she let him have his way. Also, it took Eli not even a week or so to look at her the way Trent looked at Bernie?! That had me hmmm.... There was no real build up to their emotional connection. I would have also preferred them not being all related, 'cause I very much dislike the 'interracial couples only' club. The '3c hair comment' was so unnecessary too. And his dick being 'longer than her head vertically'. Ugh. I don't understand why some people thing this is hot or something. And practically all this author's male lead act the same in bed (dominant, ordering around...), which ends up making the sex scene predictable and boring.

And the inconsistencies had my head spinning: Eli would instruct the team to keep their distance one moment, and then the next she was supposed to be by his side at all times. In the very beginning, she knew who Trent was, and then she didnt (side note: Who could NOT know who Trent was??). She'd checked out everyone, so why not Trent???
Anyway, Xyla is a wonderful writer, and her books are usually A+, but I couldn't find that in 'Eli'. Take your time, Ms. Turner. We can wait for excellence.

Brandi, also a thirty-six-year-old veteran, focused her life on being the best bodyguard. Her goal was to become a Secret Service Agent. She needed more V.I.P. customers under her belt before her dream could be reached. There was just one problem, this new customer refused to have a female bodyguard and she refused to accept anything less. His mind was swiftly changed when she showed her loyalty, ability, and dedication to her craft.
I enjoyed reading this story about two stubborn goal-driven people whom both succumbed to their love for each other, but still had to keep their relationship secret because of Brandi's assignment. Eli proved that his gut instinct was accurate when knowing when to be Brandi's back up. He loved her enough to make compromises in their relationship so that her goals were reached and so was his. I loved seeing how this misogynistic male being brought to his knees by an intelligent and strong woman who would not accept anything from anyone including him. I also enjoyed reading the inclusion of past characters of "Across The Aisle" series. I just love how Bernie and Portia put Patrice in her place. That was so funny how Duncan backed them up. Can't wait to read who's next in the series. The drama is always well written.

Loved Eli! The Richardson men are assholes, who you make you fall in love with them. I thought that Trent was something, but Eli was on a whole nother' level! 😃 He had no filter, and said whatever came to mind. Eli, was very focused, organized and about his money. Nothing stood in the way of that, until he was in need of protection; and met Brandi. Brandi, an agent, looking to advance her career by working for a high profile client; applied to work for Eli. These two were like oil and water. He did not want a woman protecting him, and she thought he was a dog! After some time, he did not want anyone else by his side, as he saw how loyal and great at her job she was. Brandi, started to have thoughts about her boss, that she wished would become reality. 🔥! Together, they were explosive! It was beautiful, how Eli changed his whole outlook on life, as he began to have serious feelings for Brandi. Brandi, was riddled with guilt, as she believed that she was not doing her job, as she fell in love with her boss. How Eli took care of her, and helped her through her dark days was amazing! Great read! 👍👍👍

Eli by Xyla Turned is well worth the wait. When Eli and Brandi meet there are sparks. They are both in for a mind blowing surprise...because they are different sides of the same coin. Brandi is a well qualified, kickass, military trained, bodyguard. Eli is in need of someone with her skills.. only not a woman. He has been receiving threats and during an attempted break in, his mom is hurt. Which changes his mind about the gender of his bodyguard and Brandi. Eli is also trained in hand to hand combat and has military training as well. Brandi is in charge of Eli's security team. The chemistry, action, suspense, sexiness and humor had me rereading parts of the story over and over!! This is a definite reread. Reuniting with my favorite characters from other books was awesome!!! Check out This book!😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Her eye is on the prize of being a Secret Service Agent & she won't let Eli stop that dream with his foolishness. Someone is trying to kill her client but he has decided he wants her regardless of the need to keep their relationship strictly professional.. What could go wrong? Enter the world of movers & shakers. Brandi tries to keep it professional good luck with that. The word play & sexual chemistry between them is very explosive yet Brandi is determined to keep it from derailing her future dreams. You will enjoy this awesome read in the Across The Aisle genre.

Hilarious!!!!
Eli and Brandi are in a class all by themselves,I thought Duncan was a trip but Eli isn't far behind with so of the stunts he pulls.Let me just say Xyla ,I laughed so hard at the point when then we're at the wedding my husband low-key wanted to admit my ass .When Trent said Bernie would drag Eli mom and Duncan said Bernie is like my wife and the will drag you and dragging isn't on the Agenda,I lost it !!!Thank you for giving me this laugh because my day has been crap .I forgot for a little while that I'm in Atlanta were it's bitter than Satan but with no air conditioner because it desired without running it by me .Even tho it's 85 inside my house right now this book made the hell I'm in enjoyable

Decent book
Liked Eli and Brandi's story. It was fair!y good in how it progressed. But how it jumped in some areas with not too much build up or enough background was rushed. Like a number of the stories I have read in this series it felt like the story skipped too fast...ex: bodyguard to girlfriend/aunt to his cousin?, attacker from out the blue, end of story ended so quick. Instead of 3-4 tidbits from books we probably already have read wasting a lot of space at the end....how about 1 follow up book that is naturally the next book to read with a less rushed/slightly longer current book that's rounded out better with more complete plot twists, natural progression of unexpected love story and better epilogue/happy ending with more details

Xyla Turner know how to make Tall Alpha Louisiana man who know how wear a suit, who don't apologize for what comes out of his mouth,another Hot got to read book.Love the fact that she bring back his cousin Trent into this story,just enough background to show how they were brought up.Just like his cousin Eli doesn't know what hit him when he realizes his bodyguard is a take no crap Black women when it comes to her job.When sparks start to fly WOW. Neither knew they were both missing something in their lives .When work stops being your only focus,and you start looking and finding someone to look forward every nite coming home to.

Loving this series! Xyla Turner consistently delivers us lead characters that excites us to read about. I loved Eli and Brandi. He's definitely cut from the same.cloth as his cousin Trent. I look forward to seeing these men loose their minds and heart to strong, powerful women that are allowed to be who they are. The dialouge is fantastic and fun. Keeps you in the story and forces you to lose sleep to see what happens next. Always enjoy books from this author! She's a one click for me.

Male Chauvinist Until...
The right woman came along. When Eli thought that Brandi really was a punk, but it turned out she had standards and didn't have to take his shit.
Guess what, they were alike but different, both good at military style defense. Anyway they ended their initial conflict with Brandi being Eli's bodyguard, the very thing his chauvinism was against.
Not telling the story, because you should read it, it did have depth. The sex as usual in romance novels was good.

Eli is no bulls*itter, he knows what he wants and he does not back down and goes hard on the paint. I like that as grown adults, when you know, you know and there's no need to for the unnecessary back and forth childish games. What I enjoy even more the feminist you find in Brandi even though she is a badass and can kick butt, there is still a sexual side to her and she knows how she likes....taki my charge in the bedroom, while Eli takes charge in the office. Sounds like a even trade to me 😏😉

I had to get use to Eli because he was really bad in the beginning. Eli was cold and unfeeling ( like his mother) and not a pleasant person, but Brandi really changed him. I liked how Eli was unable to control his emotions of feeling towards Brandi and ultimately changed his life. I don't know how I feel about Brandi. Brandi didn't really have a personality and she was so closed off that I feel like I didn't really get to know her ( not like the other women). I am glad that Eli got his woman and Brandi finally realized having a family was just as important as her goals.

Loved it!
I love all of Ms. Turner's book and Eli and Brandi's story is definitely up there with my favorites! I loved that Eli was an ALPHA who was willing to go after love when he found it with Brandi and I was happy that Brandi was willing to put herself out for love! It's always good to have dreams and aspirations, but sometimes they do change for the better and that was what both Eli and Brandi found out! Thanks, Ms. Turner for another hit!

A wonderful story, Eli was a force to be reckoned with!
I could tell straight away that Eli was Trent's cousin, he had the same attitude to everyone as Trent had and I loved him.
The way he realised he was so attracted to Brandi and told her so in actions and words.
The steamy sex scenes were so hot, made me flush.
Wonderful story, to me it could have been longer but nevertheless a fantastic story to read.
