Alfonso Cucinotta is sick of life on a farm with more family than he knows what to do with. Philadelphia Howe is headed for California with her father, the only family she has.
Alfonso came to the Weaver farm in 1874 with six of his siblings after a seventh – his older sister Bella – became a mail-order bride. Eight years later, he’s still there – and wishes he weren’t. But two sisters have wed and moved off, so Bella is committed to making sure he stays put. For now, he’s stuck chopping wood, picking fruit, making sausages and dreaming of a day he can go out on his own – while working hard to leave his childhood anger and bossiness behind.
Philadelphia has spent her whole life tagging along with her father as he travels from one base ball club to the next, first as a player and later as a manager. A snowstorm traps her and Papa with the Weavers, and she discovers a new sort of life with a big, boisterous family – and the handsome but taciturn Alfonso. Eventually, though, the roads will clear, and she’ll have to decide whether she’d rather stay there or follow her father to Silvertown and his next club.
Throw in mystery, romance, humor, loud Italian arguments and a coach driver who may be more than he seems, and strap yourselves in for another Weaver family adventure!
First book for me from this author, but I like his style. This fits right in with all the Weaver family stories. Alfonso has been inordinately quiet, but after Lucy's marriage, he learned that he needs to talk less, think more and mature. When Philadelphia Howe, her father and their driver/companion loss themselves and end up on the Weaver farm, Alfonso finds himself not only listening to Mr. How's excellent baseball stories, but falling for the lovely Miss. Philadelphia. This book is filled with typical Weaver mayhem and some side splitting scenes of good Italian fun!
I am always reluctant to read romance written by men, but Ray knocked it out of the park. Lately every book that I have read has been full of my notes about poor editing and stupid mistakes, like calling a character 3 different names within 2 pages. This Book? Not one note. Bravo, Well done and I look forward to reading more of your books.
Alfonso- oldest brother of Bella living with the Weavers outside of Nowhere Washington. Philadelphia/Phillie- travels with her dad who manages Base Ball clubs. I enjoyed reading this engaging story that is well written with an interesting plot. Ray did a great depicting the characters and was spot on from how I felt I knew them. I was leary due to a different author than Kit but it does flow well and am excited to for the rest of the series. Their story has a winning HEA!
Continuing Story of the Weaver family and their extended family. Alfonso is tired of living out in the middle of Oregon on the farm. He wants the city life. He does come from New York via Rome as a child. The closest town is a looong day’s ride away, adeptly named Nowhere. As he was chopping wood one night he hears people talking who appear to be lost. He takes them inside and introduces them to his family. They offer them a place to stay for the night. Just who are the mysterious guests? What will they bring to the story? Adventure? Romance? Intrigue? Clean fun read.
Good story. Alfonso has a yearning to be somewhere else besides the apple farm the Weavers own. He has spent half his life there but remembers the cities and wants, no, needs to leave the farm. One dark night he finds a coach with arguing men who are lost and invites them in for the night to extend hospitality. There is also a young woman with them. Ahhh…the plot thickens! You will probably find you need a tissue or two later in the story when…. Happy reading!
This was my first book from Ray. I was a little early thinking it couldn’t possibly live up to the standards I expected after reading the first book in the series by my favorite author, but I was pleasantly surprised! The writing was so good, loved the storyline. The characters were well developed. Somehow Ray managed to capture all of the magic Kit Morgan places in her books and carried that Weaver magic on in this book. Truly loved it!
Another delightful story starring "The Weavers". Alfonso is feeling confined in the farm, and he is trying to become more mature. A chance meeting with a lost coach and winter snow storms bring in Philadelphia Howe and her father and a rogue.
I’m currently binging all the kit Morgan I can, which led me here. Usually when a different author takes over in a similar world you don’t know what to expect, but I quite enjoyed this one. Looking forward to completing the series.
I LOVED Philadelphia! And how she was praised in the weaver family for being strong and bold.
How can you not fall in love with the Weaver clan? They are loud, opinionated and loveable. Good clean romance. I enjoyed getting to know Alfonso better and learning about the beginnings of baseball.
It's always fun to read about the Weavers! I was a little concerned because I d never heard of Ray Anselmo. He captured the essence of the Weavers and the Cucinotta perfectly.
First book by this author. I had read the series leading up to the Weavers. So I was excited to see new books. And this book Alfonso did not disappoint. I recommend this book.
The oldest brother has grown up and decided that the family farm is not his hearts desire. A winter storm brings a surprise and allows him to follow his dream. Good reading.
This was a sweet story but not the exciting kind with suspense, love and action that I enjoy. There was real action in the scene where Philadelphia was fighting off McKrug. I would recommend it for light reading.
I have really been enjoying this series. This book has a great story of someone who has the wish to do something different than the family expects and the inner struggles that follow.
Alfonso and Philadelphia met in a snow storm, they were friends at first but fell in Love. His sister Bella didn't want to lose any more brothers and sisters to marriage. So they kept them separated as much as possible. It worked out at the end. Thank you, Ray Anselmo.
