This was long, complex story that had me enthralled
by sewsummore
Chase and Morgan Hunt were brothers in every way but blood. Mason was the heir groomed to take over the billion-dollar family business by his father Edwin, while Chase, who was adopted, was ignored by their father because he was not born a Hunt. Despite this twisted upbringing, the two boys were best friends. It was the love of his adopted mother, Melanie, and that of his brother, that helped Chase accept their family relationship. When the time came for the boys to become interns, Morgan went to his family company while Chase was sent to a business acquaintance of his father. It was there that Chase shined putting into practice lessons he learned eavesdropping on the instructions their father gave Morgan. During this period, Chase fell in love with a girl named Layla only to be betrayed by her. Morgan was under intense pressure to perform by his father, wishing he could walk away from the business and his father. It was then the two brothers decided to form their own company secretly, using money from Morgan's Trust Fund with the intention of eventually removing themselves from Edwin's orbit and control. How Edwin discovers their plan and when the boys win a contract he had wanted, was compelling reading. I felt great satisfaction when reading the boy's win. However, Edwin was a man who will win at any cost, and there are more difficulties ahead for the boys. While Morgan was under terrible pressure to be a copy of his father, he was also his mother's son and refused to become what his father wanted. Chase had to live with his adopted father's disregard, and while it did cause him pain, it also forced him to become a man of principle, determined to succeed. This story was a long, complicated story that had me enthralled. When Layla betrayed Chase, I wanted to dislike her, but there were reasons she was forced to betray him, in the end, it was with her help that the boys finally won. I found it hard to put down this book, the characters had hidden depths and the were dramatic scenes with twists I never expected, and the ending you will have to read for yourself.
