The book Mixed by Arree Chung is a book is about diversity and the mixing of families and people by using colors to depict them. This book is not only is about mixing of people and a great resource in celebrating diversity that is found in our world, but it also is a great tool in showing how the color wheel works. The story starts with the primary colors red, blue, and yellow living together nicely. The red then says that they are better, and everyone starts to separate and go their own ways. The book goes forward with the blue and yellow mixing and everyone following their example and continues until the entire color family is mixed up and we have the color wheel represented by the family members in their town. With this book students would be able to learn about the primary and secondary colors and be able to see the colors represented in a way that might not have been seen before.
* This is my FAVOURITE children's book so far. * What a unique way of explaining some of the most difficult questions surrounding race and segregation. * Highlights, in an easily understandable way, the benefits of creating a society where everyone is valued and can live happily together.
This book was a cute and simple way to introduce children to diversity and inclusion among their peers. Having diversity being represented by different colors combining to make new colors is a cute and easy way to introduce this topic to younger children.
My daughter will be two in September and this is by far her favorite book. She requests it be read at least twice a day, at nap time and before bed.
For me and my husband, it's a joy to read this book on repeat. It's a simple book, but incredibly meaningful and impactful. The author clearly put a lot of thought into this project. It takes a lot of intention and forethought to take such a complex topic and break it down in such an enjoyable and accessible way.
