Carnival Panic is Literary Titan award winner and Kops- Fethering International Book Silver award winner. Carnival panic seizes you from the opening of the book and keeps you in a trance like state as you read it. It's an absolute page turner which gets more dangerous as we read. For fans of Hunger games and the movie 13 sins, you are in for a treat. This book is based on a lethal televised game show. It's set in a dystopian futuristic land where people drink dirty water to survive. Only the rich has access to purer air and water while the poor suffer and perish.

The writing style was punchy and articulate. The language was eloquent and lucid. The tone of the book was cynical and grim. Each chapter of the book was narrated by different participants of the game show. This allowed us to get a glimpse on all the characters of the book, their background, the tasks that faced and why they chose to enter this competition.

Carnival panic had its own set rules and the only guarantee they gave was that you will not be killed during the show. You may be maimed, injured, burnt, but you will not get be killed. People still participated because of the huge monetary incentive. Due to extreme poverty, many people applied. But the show only chose people who the audience would love. Each task in the show has vicious traps. There are bunnies on the show that harm you unless you give them candy. Who will survive this brutal game and emerge victorious? Read to find out!

The book was thoroughly engaging and thrilling. As the participants face the tasks, I felt the fear too and the is a sign of good writing. I would recommend this book to readers who love Dystopian Fiction, Fantasy and Thrillers.

“Candy makes them sweet.” As the hostess introduces the contestants of the fifth season of Carnival Panic to the cute, fluffy, pink bunny at her side; the creature certainly doesn’t resemble the limb-removing, metal monster it can become. In a world filled with misery and death every day, why wouldn’t the masses enjoying watching more of it on live television in a competition to the extreme?

Cecile, Jax, Merindah, Quinn, Jean-Emmanuel, and Fletch all have different reasons for competing in Carnival Panic, but the outcome is the same — fame and, of course, fortune. A prize of unimaginable wealth in a world of anything but, and all the contestants have to do is solve a series of 12 puzzles in 14 days. The catch? Only one can win…and the rest do not get simply voted out. Filled with dismembering traps, false clues, and any intrigue the producers can throw out — this is a televised show after all! — the six contestants must decide if the sacrifices are worth the final prize.

Opinion:
Carnival Panic is the Hunger Games for the next generation of dystopian fiction readers! From the very first sentence I was totally absorbed, ignoring everything around me to discover what this game is and why ANYONE would choose to take part in it. I really enjoyed how the reader is basically dropped right into the game, along with the players, and then you learn about the world outside and the reasons for each player’s participation as you go. Told in first person POV from each character’s perspective inside the game, you are slowly given factoids about the dystopian world they live in and how each player reaches a moment in their life that signing up for such a dangerous game seems like a good idea. It also includes heart-pounding moments of suspense as you wait to find out what will happen to each player as they make decisions in the puzzles or with the other players.

I loved this world and the premise for this game! Honestly, I could easily see this becoming a series of short books OR a longer novel just on this story. I would gladly immerse myself in this world again!

I think readers with an interest in dystopian fiction will love this. Due to some graphic information, probably readers 16 and older.

The story has an innovative structure and moves between the different perspectives of the individual players of the game with little interaction between them. The characters are fascinating and the author takes the time to give us the reason they agreed to participate in this dangerous and sadistic game. The world they live in is immersive, and there are subtle hints to how the world has gone so horribly wrong and it left me wondering, and I like that. I can't help comparing it to the Squid Game even though it was published a few years before the hit Netflix show was released. But if you liked Squid Games, you'll love Carnival Panic.
