I'll start the review by saying something I feel is terrible but essential. Sexual abuse is something that someone might take weeks, months or years to get over and yet it haunts us. I feel so terribly sorry saying this but it's a bitter truth that every girl I know has experienced some form of assault, harassment or molestation and I am no exception. The worst part is there are times when someone doesn't even know what's happening to them because they are that young (maybe even kids) or naive or have not yet even been taught that something like that can happen to them. Imagine that!

"All I wanted to be was 'Daddy's little girl. Sadly, I never knew he would make a woman of me."
There are many heart rending statements in this book but this one tugged at my heart because what do you do when you are all of ten years old and trust a person and he is the one who molests you? The first story in this book titled 'Daddy's Little Girl' is of someone who lost her father when she was 3 years old and all her life has wanted a father figure to guide her and love her and when she finally has someone, a step father and this is what he does to her.
The other stories are about a girl whose friend's father rapes her and said "Don't wear dresses like those to grab attention of men." A man whose brother assaulted him as a kid but neither the victim's mother nor the rapist's wife believe the victim. There's a story about a Godman taking a woman as a disciple and what follows is horrifying to say the least. Another one is a corporate #metoo story wherein we have a girl who abuses and drinks & smokes and that is because she wants to 'pretend' she is 'cool'. Now this is where I find a problem. I felt stereotypes about women are brought into play and it somehow felt like the author is judging the girl for her choices. The girl was slightly annoying, I agree but just because she is unconventional it makes her an easy target? That to me seemed problematic. And a Bollywood #metoo story.
The stories are written with utmost honesty and are grim but it's an important read. I recommend it.
Just read a few stories from this book. I am so amazed at the depth of imagination you have Karan. The stories felt so real as if happening next door. Also liked the fact that the stories are served as it is and not with any additional writer's context. Felt very real and intimate. Keep it up. Looking forward to finish the book
FAB - BOOK REVIEW OF "#Me too: A collection of Short Stories" by Karan Puri
Genre - Fiction(Short Stories)
Rating - 5/5
''#Me too: A collection of Short Stories." this book is an eye-opener for all of us, and I really liked that the author has openly and bravely talked about all the issues that were taking place in the society and penned down all the problems in the form of these 6 short stories. All these short stories were taken place in separate timelines. This #metoo is not that of regular thousand of movements takes place. This movement has a value to it and the women's power to it. This movement is not to fight against men but to fight against the sexual abusers of any gender. It could be a male or a female. Due to this movement, women are coming forward, asking for their rights and to stop abuses. . This book has taken this delicate issue which made this book crafted adequately and gave a profound impact. One will feel so emotional and overwhelming while reading the book. All the incidents that were taken place were from the inspiration from the issues that were taking place in society, which will make us feel way too emotional as we are also a part of that community or organization. This sensitive issue is adequately explained, and the author has impacted his writing again, which made the book take a profound transformation. The writing is lucid, and I feel one should read his book no matter what. The writing and plot of the book did really helped to keep this book at a good pace. Not just for the book's theme, you should also read this book of the tremendous writing style. I connected to each word because of the writing, and the author has done a great job.
stories of men and women who went through abuse and harassment by people of power,a co worker or a family member. . Every story is a reality that sends shudders down your spine. . The strong language used in every story is the reflection of the abuse and what the survivor went through. The stories can not be put in a box when I often hear people say "it only happens in rural areas and illiterate people do it." The author also emphasises how we as a society try to shush things and forget any such incident happened in the individual's life. This book I believe would give courage to bring out a lot of many stories we still don't know. . The use of stereotype languages and the environments in which the sexual abuse and harassment takes place shouts out loud that there is no rural or urban. It happens irrespective of where you are, there is a story around you. The stories are of as young as 17 and as old as 72. The stories are tough to read
#METOO was a wide movement spread on digital, social media platforms.Anybody who has experienced sexual assault, harassment used this hashtag which helped in demonstrating how widespread it is. ✨ This book me too is a collection of short stories which are not just about sexual violence on women but also about children and men. ✨ Each of these stories is unique, people, places , situations are different, but the trauma, the pain, the impacts are same. This book enlighten us to become more compassionate and understanding that it can happen to anyone , does not consider one gender as vulnerable, its about humans, their self respect, their sanctity. ✨ Stories are realistic, well penned. They create tremor in mind.they describe the horrific incidents and their impact with which a victim has to live, and its time to see them not just as victims but as the survivors.
The Me Too (or #MeToo) movement is a social movement against sexual abuse and sexual harassment . The phrase "Me Too" was initially used in this context on social media in 2006 by a survivor of the same and activist Tarana Burke. Well the author has written down six short stories based on this #metoo movement. These six stories potraited women from different categories of society facing the same issue in their work field. Even though we all know men and women are two equal gender according to the law yet the society considers women as second gender only. The issues faced by a female are much more than the male and sexual harrasment at any place is way too common now. The narration is kept simple and easy for better understanding of common man. I wish more authors come around focusing on these crucial topics. The language used is lucid.
