"I don’t want to see your face around here again.”
I fully intended to stay away from the Knights of Kingston High as instructed. I was safer now, or at least that is what I tried to tell myself even when the horrible nightmares made me to wake up screaming. Or when the pain I caused them followed me around when I was awake.
I was determined not to return until I had no other choice. You simply do not say no when it comes to the Knights.
When I suddenly find out that I’m not who I thought I was, that everything about me is a complete and total lie, I’m not sure who I can trust anymore.
Are these five boys really my friends? Or will they turn out to be something much worse?
*Cakewalk is a dark romance suitable for readers 18+. It is advised to read Piece of Cake (Kingston High #1) prior to reading this book.*
Sundae Leighton writes romance novels that are sweet with a dark twist. She got her start writing fanfiction with her friends in school, but didn’t take the plunge to publish her first book (Picture Perfect) until 2020. Born and raised in Connecticut, where she currently resides with her husband and their cats. She sometimes scares herself when she writes things darker than intended, considers coffee the nectar of the Gods, and once ran the NYC marathon (OK - half marathon). When she isn’t writing down what the voices in her head tell her to, she likes watching murder shows, NASCAR, and reading romance books with lots of dark angst.

This was my most anticipated read this summer and I am so happy we're back in this Kingston High world. Easton and Brett are one of my favorite couples ever. These two just give me life. I love that Easton, "Tin Man" found his heart in Brett, his "Dorothy."
I was heartsick after the cliffhanger in book one. There is nothing I wanted more than their conflict to be resolved. Thankfully we don't have to wait long for these two to be back on the same page, figuratively and literally. And when they do the story is off and running - the twists and bombs start dropping! And there are many of them throwing me for loops. My jaw started dropping early on. This has it all - friendship, love, steam, secrets, deceit, betrayal, mystery, danger and revelations!
There's lots of plot development. At times it goes fast and at other times the pace slows a bit. But overall the pace felt right for the relationship development.
Cash again plays a big role in this, we meet new characters and we also get to know the other Knights better, not a lot but just enough.
The thing is that there are a lot of names and characters involved that it was a bit hard to keep track of who was who at times and how they were all connected. There are so many things that come into play which impact the dynamic of the group and the series as a whole. They've all come a long way with each other by the end, so it wasn't just a great conclusion for Brett and Easton, but for their whole brotherhood of friends and family. Wow this was a ride! My interest is piqued for the next one and whose book will be next!
4.5
I received an ARC and I am leaving a review voluntarily.
If you enjoyed the wild ride of Piece of Cake, you are going to be absolutely blown away by Cakewalk!
Starting right where we were left hanging, we finally get some resolution.
So if you want to know what happens, learn more of the secrets and see how Brett and the boys get along this time, dive right in. You will not be disappointed.
I had high expectations for this second Kingston High book, but I honestly didn't think it was possible for Sundae Leighton to surpass the work done with Piece of Cake, obviously I was wrong! Cakewalk is much darker and dramatic, it’s full of mysteries, betrayals and totally unexpected twists in the plot, it closes Easton & Brett’s story in a wonderful way, and it leaves us know a little more about the rest of the Knights.
I think this time what I enjoyed the most and fell in love with in this book was its plot: things for Easton, Brett and the rest of the Knights are much more complicated than they seemed at the end of Piece of Cake , nothing is what it seems and the betrayals come from the most unexpected characters, there are new characters that complement the story in an incredible way, others that bring more drama and surprising situations, and the discoveries about Brett's past and the history of the Knights are absolutely wonderful.
On top of that, I loved reading Easton again, I really enjoyed that he was still the same boy crazy with love for Brett, but a little more reckless, explosive, flirtatious and sensual. I have to say that I was too surprised to read how strained his relationship with Cash was, and in general among all the guys, after Brett escaped, I don't think I had assimilated the importance she had for everyone, not just for Easton and Cash, all of that broke my heart a bit, but I loved how it all played out. I definitely loved understanding Brett's reason for leaving Kingston, learning about the emotional consequences of the events of Piece of Cake, and reading her struggling to overcome the mourning she feels for Ruby, only to have to face new and more complicated obstacles.
Obviously these characters have earned a special place in my heart, especially Cash, that's why I was very happy reading his relationship with Brett, how much he loves her, cares about her and how much he wants her to be with Easton again, I think Cash takes on the role of middleman between these two several times and it's a lot of fun to read. As for Easton & Brett, I really liked their reunion, how their love story unfolded through the book and every moment they shared together, good or bad, and without a doubt the end of his story was everything I wanted, so thank you so much Sundae Leighton for that! And although I just said that Cash is my favorite, in this book I had the opportunity to read more about Oz, Jonathan & Jameson and they all seemed even more interesting characters: my heart broke a lot with Oz, but I was even more moved by the conversation and details he share with Brett, and the twins are just adorable, Jameson's love for Josie and his concern for her are so cute that made me hate her less, and Jonathan with his best kept secret had me screaming with excitement and wanting to read his book now!
Although I really want to read them all, I have no idea who the next one could be, but I know that I am going to love him, besides that I am dying to know what else is going to happen with the plot that interconnects the series and to know all the secrets that the Knights have yet to discover.
I have been so excited to read Cakewalk which is the second book in the Kingston High series and I definitely was not disappointed whatsoever. As story progresses all of the secrets start to unravel which means that we finally get all of the answers we were waiting for. Oh my god!! The lies, the betrayal, the audacity of this character and the eww why moments where I think I threw up in my mouth a bit. Sundae Leighton didn’t bother to hold back any of the punches in this book so prepare for one hell of a gut wrenching ride.
After the ending of book one, I wondered how this was all going to work out. This book was a rollercoaster ride of shocking revelations, twists and emotions that captivated me from the first page until the last. The chemistry between Brett and Easton was palpable. Then for the Knights there was charming Cash, the compelling twins Jonathan and Jameson and cold Oz that I hope get books too. By the end of this book, I was crying tears of joy yet not wanting this story to end. I hope my love for this book comes through my review, and I highly recommend this book and the first one, Pieces of Cake!
*I requested and received an advanced copy of this ebook for my honest review that I am voluntarily leaving.*
Being back in Kingston High was everything I had hoped for and more, Sundae did not disappointed or hold back any punches.
As she weaves her magic all the twisted lies and the secrets start to be unraveled. Which means we get the answers we were desperate for following book one and OH MY DAYS...I wasn't ready for the depth of the lies and the betrayal.
SUNDAE LEIGHTON is a pretty new author to me , but after reading Cakewalk will definitely be added to my list of one -click authors.
