📚 Hello Book Friends! First, I want to thank Anthony DeCapite for sending me a finished copy of his exciting book: FIRELINE. Thank you for trusting me in providing an honest review.
As soon as I started reading FIRELINE, I was hooked. Two brothers, both inmates. One is killed, the other swears to avenge him. The story takes us on the path of revenge and deep emotional conflicts. Mace is determined to avenge his brother, but it will not be easy. His brother’s killer has been transferred to an inmate firefighting crew. Mace will work hard to join the inmate firefighting crew to seek and find his nemesis. Surrounded by risky and vicious forest infernos, Mace will face more dangers than just fire. With the help of another inmate named Ortiz, he comes up with a plan for his revenge. Will he go through according to plan or will his nemesis get to him before he has a chance to succeed?
This book is filled with action and tension. This great read is available on Amazon.
I won a copy of this book through GoodReads. I really liked this book. I liked it much better than I thought I would. It was a story about a man who was in prison and joins the crews fighting the wildfires in California. The reason he wanted to fight the fires was so that he could hopefully kill the prisoner who killed his brother and injured him. In spite of the fact that he was a convict and was hoping to murder another man, I really like the main character, Mason Jones. Very early into the story I found him very likable and he seemed to be a good person. And so what he thought and planned and wanted to accomplish became very interesting. All in all I thought this was a very good story and one I would recommend that others read. There are a few places in the story where things are referred to that I did not really understand. I think it was just referring to things that I had not come across before. It did not take away from the story though.
An excellent book about the bonds between family, revenge, and redemption. This book caught my attention from page one and captivated me throughout. Very descriptive, great character development, gripping storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale about a California con, and I would definitely read more by Mr. DeCapite!
Excellent Book. It grabbed me from page one and I just had to read it non-stop to the end. I've already purchased the next book, Outlaw, and can't wait to dive right into it.
Love the fast paced action and the excellent characters constructed by this author. The storyline was realistic and very compelling. Semper Fi from from a retired Marine Combat Correspondent.
I really enjoyed this book. Any book with such a well-developed plot/story line and believable characters is a win. What you managed to do as well is make me laugh, cry & gasp out loud. I will be looking for more of Mason Jones. You are a winner Anthony DeCapite!!
Once I started, I was not able to tear my eyes away from this gripping tale. The plot and action scenes hooked me from the beginning, and the attention to detail in all the various scenes was amazing. I felt that I was right in the midst of the action- wherever the story led: showing the best and the worst of nature and humankind.
Fireline follows Mason Jones, a California inmate firefighter. He is a relatable flawed character, with baggage to carry and the kind of drive it takes to direct an exciting story. He is easy to empathize with and his choices are tough. He makes you want to believe people can change given the chance. It is an aptly timed story. I read it alongside the fires burning here in California. And it’s made even more meaningful because of its released during the Covid 19 pandemic, which has brought into focus the ethically complicated fact that California depends heavily on inmate firefighters and up until recently their training and service were not enough to employ them after they served their time. I recommend the book to anyone looking for an adventure in firefighting, and a story of revenge and redemption. I would love to read a sequel. There are certainly a lot of fires, changing policies, and heroic personal stories to keep me following Mase through his next endeavors.
Fireline is an exciting, suspenseful story of vengeance, brotherhood, and the possibility of redemption. California convict Mason “Mace” Jones joins an inmate firefighting crew with the sole aim of avenging his brother’s murder but, like the California wildfires Mace helps to battle, his story is wild and unpredictable. DeCapite’s a skilled storyteller who takes the reader on a thrilling ride filled with complicated, realistic characters, detailed descriptions, and fast-moving action. As I read this book, the fires currently burning across California served to further underscore the suspense. Thank you to the firefighters and first responders on those real firelines. And thank you to Anthony DeCapite for giving us a window into that world with fictional characters that we’re hoping can find a path to heroism – or at least hope - on the Fireline.
In Fireline, Anthony DeCapite delves into the gritty world of prison life and vengeance, weaving a narrative that grips the reader from the start. The story revolves around Mason and Caleb Jones, brothers and fellow inmates at LAC, who are entangled in a perilous conflict with Graham, a fellow inmate controlling the prison's contraband operations. This clash, facilitated by a corrupt guard, tragically ends in Caleb's death and Mason's hospitalization. Motivated by the loss of his brother, Mason embarks on a relentless quest for revenge. His already challenging mission is further complicated when he learns that his target, Graham, has been transferred hundreds of miles away and assigned to a prestigious inmate firefighting crew. Unfazed, Mason devises an intricate plan to reach Graham, involving a dangerous alliance with a prison gang, a disguise, and a scheme centered around fire.
DeCapite's Fireline is an exploration of revenge and the dark realities of the prison system, characterized by violence, corruption, and intricate plots. The novel thrusts readers into the action from the outset, delivering on its promise of fast-paced action and unexpected twists. The author's skillful use of clear and vivid descriptions offers an immersive experience, effectively grounding the reader in the story's setting. The author's writing is sharp, and the plot progresses at an ideal pace which ensures the readers are engaged engagement without feeling like they're rushing through the narrative.
One thing I particularly enjoyed in this book is the detailed portrayal of wildfires which offers insights into firefighting within the context of a penal institution. Readers may find themselves inadvertently learning about the nuances of battling blazes. DeCapite excels in character development as well, particularly in how he presents the key figures in the story. While initially, they might appear as stereotypical criminals, the narrative gradually reveals their complexity.
Fireline is a compelling read that offers a deep dive into themes of vengeance, the harshness of prison life, and the human capacity for resilience and strategy under extreme circumstances. This is a gritty and riveting thriller that I highly recommend.
Really enjoyed parts of this book, but then I had to put it down for awhile, because it would get a little wordy where it really wasn't needed. Great story line, a little hard to follow at times, but I didn't delete it like I wanted to several times because it caught me again!
Great read. I was looking for a fire fighter rescue book for awhile mainly because I enjoy shows like Chicago fire and Fire country. This delivered. I'm looking forward to book 2 in the series.
