Introducing the sweet and steamy SKY MATES Series… All the fun and action of Top Gun plus romance when smokin’ hot aliens are assigned to a base on Earth.

In a small town in Texas, a woman on a mission meets a big alien warrior with a tender heart…

They were the match no one expected — especially them.

Commander of the fierce air warriors of Sky’s End, Hakkim “Hawk” comes to Earth for business, not pleasure. The future of his remote world depends on his squadron finding their perfect matches and flying partners. With responsibility for the mission’s success resting on his shoulders, finding his own mate never occurs to him — until he crosses paths with the Terran pilot assigned to work with him on Project Sky Mates.

Fighter pilot Captain Kelly “Crackers” Ritz has always been better at flying than dating. Jets can be dangerous, but they’ll never break your heart. Avoiding love has been easy — until she’s selected to be the liaison for a team of mysterious alien pilots. She feels an instant connection with their part-cyborg leader. But she’s supposed to work with him, not fall for him…isn’t she?

When Hawk claims Kelly as his Sky Mate, his world says no. With only a few weeks to go before he has to return home, will he break his vows to his people to be with the woman he loves, or be forced to leave her forever?

For a sweet and steamy, Texas-two-stepping, afterburner blasting, galaxy-spanning adventure, join the world of SKY MATES and read HAWK today! (An Intergalactic Dating Agency story.)

What a great concept Sky Mates is. The alien cyborg warriors of Sky's End must find females with whom they can physically, emotionally, and cybernetically bond so they can fly high tech dragons ships, which require a bonded pair of pilots. Hawk is the man who has no match; commitment-shy Kelly is a woman who never wants to leave her town, let alone Earth. But the synergy and sizzle they have together soon convinces them they're sky mates. But a tragedy strikes that may end their dreams of flying high together.

Loved, loved the concept and the execution. Engaging characters. Well-crafted plot. And, as with all Susan Grant romances, the story is written with a realism that makes it totally believable.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and pretty sentence structure. The world building was excellent, with the culture and values of the Solo pilots coming to vivid life. The characterization was excellent, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic, complex individuals with strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was natural, organic, and very sweet. The plot and pacing was tight and exciting, meaning I read it in one sitting. There was a medium amount of well justified angst in this novel and high stakes, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. There was the Forbidden Lovers trope, Epistolary Relationship trope, and the Fated Mates trope in this romance novel. The world building, plot, and pacing were all five stars in this novel. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also five stars in this novel. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of five stars. I also really appreciated that neither of them wanted to have children. I love a baby epilogue, but I also love seeing childless couples represented in romance. I recommend this romance to readers who enjoy sci-fi romances with excellent world building and heroines who are really good at their jobs. I cannot wait to read the next novel in this series when it releases. I plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

While I could do without the political drama regarding the H/h’s pairing, the book itself is good. The H has been in communication with his Terran liaison for some time, preparing for a dating program. Yeah…I don’t know how I feel about the way his people do that. Aside from regular ol’ connections - which are allowed btw - there is a special one that reminds me of the jaeger pilots in Pacific Rim, only with sex. This is required to fly some sort of ancient ships with advanced tech nobody has been able to duplicate (me….seriously? Nobody can reverse engineer the things? How do they make repairs?). And yes; they are expected to set aside mundane relationships (and family…ouch) if a match is found. Kinda makes me wonder if the breeding program itself isn’t why this rarely occurs anymore. Because that’s what it amounts to, no matter what the reason.

I also realize I need to go back and reread the first two of the original series (I’ve read #3 many times as it’s my favorite, but the earlier ones, particularly book 2, have at least some background.

And I digress

So the H/h are v. Attracted to each other but…no match has been found…for either of them. So…no-strings, right? Only, it’s pretty clear that the match attempts just missed each other. Then she gets hurt, and they both resubmit, and they’re a match. Only…she’s injured so his people reject it (me, say what now?). They do get that worked out (that was an amusing conversation) but I’m bothered it even exists.

Commander of the fierce air warriors of Sky’s End, Major “Hawk” Hakkim comes to Earth with his team of unmated pilots, 4 males and 1 female, to participate in a program named Project Sky Mates. The incredible Dragon warships of Hawk’s people were eons old, the legacy of a mysterious, more technologically advanced past. Dragons needed two pilots to fly them, a bonded pair—Sky Mates. But matches had become rare. That was why this program was so important to them.

His Earth liaison is fighter pilot/instructor Captain Kelly “Crackers” Ritz. Even without meeting face-to-face, Hawk feels something in their text interactions that energize him; and to a sky warrior, “synergy” was everything!

Kelly heard their ships flying toward them now. The part-cyborg sky warriors were said to be the best aviators in the galaxy, genetically modified and bioengineered to interface with their ships. Their top warcraft were so advanced flying them was possible only with a bonded pair, Sky Mates, who were soul mates working in tandem, tethered mentally and emotionally to each other and their ship. This program is their attempt to find ideal mates among the Earth pilots who will have the qualities the aliens need so they can work alongside the warriors’ on their missions. And the pairing is for life. Kelly watched the 6 ships coming over the mountain in formation, everything absolutely perfect. They flew really low, and as the air traffic controllers started to panic, the six ships flipped tight and close into an upside down roll in perfect formation as they switched to vertical and soared skyward. As her commander chewed her out for the aliens’ performance, demanding they follow Top Gun school rules like everyone, the ships gracefully landed, once again perfect! Their “show” was meant as a sign of respect toward the Terrans. But only the Warriors knew that.

Kelly was amazed to see the warriors standing next to their Raptor ships, true supersoldiers with long silver hair and body-hugging black armor. They were serious and dignified, professional, not like the pilots who had just buzzed the tower! She took them all to the local bar to meet everyone. She even talked Hawk into dancing. Not only did he catch on effortlessly, but he read even the smallest body language from her and responded to it, as if he read her mind and carried out the move she had thought about. He had synced with Kelly, a very important connection where their minds linked and connected! But they could not sync because that connection required a bonded pair, Sky Mates, and he could not be that! Finding a mate for himself had not been an issue, especially since DNA testing showed no match for him on Earth. Yet he and Kelly had a definite connection with each other! Could it somehow be possible that he could claim her as his Sky Mate? All the signs are there … although DNA testing had showed no match existed for Hawk, what could it mean that Hawk and Kelly feel Sky Mate synergy between them?

This was such an excellent story line. I was enraptured from the start and enjoyed Hawk and his team mingling in the Terran culture. After Hawk and Kelly had danced perfectly together, I laughed out loud when she turned to find the team in front of her, wanting lessons! It was so adorable! This is my new favorite series and you will absolutely love it!

The air warriors of Sky’s End are famed through the universe for their flying prowess and their unique ships, controlled by bonded couples. They’ve made a deal with Earth authorities, sharing their technology for a chance to match more sky warriors with mates. Working with the Earth Top Gun school set up for the sky warriors to train at, Commander Hakkim, “Hawk”, finds himself inordinately intrigued by his run-of-the-mill communications with Earth liaison—and fellow pilot —Captain Kelly Ritz. The feelings that spark between them are like none either has ever felt…feelings suspiciously like those felt by Sky Mates when they meet…

Hawk is just pure fun. It’s got a great romance, great world-building, and lots of neat characters and flying details. It does seem to be set in the same world as Grant’s ‘Otherworldly Men series’, though those books don’t have to be read to understand Hawk or enjoy it! I really liked how Grant used the Intergalactic Dating Agency idea and genetic mates and twined in flying and special ships designed to be flown by couples, but still twisted the idea a little, as Hawk and Kelly aren’t actually matched as mates, but are colleagues who find each other and develop a relationship independent of Sky’s End matching program. The straightforward, unexpected attraction between them is delightful, and it’s enjoyable to read as they get together and explore what’s between them, and try to see how they fit into each other’s worlds. There are lots of emotional ups and downs, but of course Hawk and Kelly are triumphant in the end, as befits all romance novels. I do hope to see more of them in the future stories Grant puts out in this series – hopefully more than just the sequel already listed, Falcon!

Where can I sign up!
With Hawk: Sky Mates, Susan Grant delivers a spectacular story, perfect on all fronts.
From the wonderful plotting, pacing and expertly crafted characterizations to the detailed insight
Into an alien species and its culture you are guaranteed a fabulous reading experience.
This was a wonderful blending of the Sci-Fi/Romance genres!

Major Hawk Hakkim, alien/part cyborg and his team of Sky warriors, called Solos because they are unmated pilots, have come to Earth to participate in a program named Project Sky Mates.
Hawks liaison while on Earth is fighter pilot Kelly “Cracker” Ritz, and though they both try to deny their attraction towards each other in order to avoid distractions within the program, it soon becomes clear they cannot ignore the feelings growing between them.

So buckle your seatbelts folks cause this romance is gonna burn hotter than a solar flare!

Though a short read the author has managed to convey a tone and feel to the story without
making it feel rushed, from all the secondary characters to the amazingly detailed flight descriptions.
It was unavoidable; I did tear up towards the books end, such an awesome read!
Hawk and Kelly were just perfect together, made for each other. That’s the kind of romance one enjoys!
A definite keeper to be read again, and again! HEA
Looking forward to book #2 featuring Sky warrior Falcon and Kelly’s friend Dee.

This ARC I volunteer to read and review via Booksprout was a very enjoyable story. The story was well written with a engaging plot line, with likable characters to engage in, and with action, drama and romance to keep me reading to the conclusion in this short Alien romance read. This story is about Major "Hawk" Hakkim and Captain Kelly (Cracker) Ritz. Hawk and his team of Sky Warriors, tagged name Solo are sent to Earth to participate in a program called Project Sky Mates. Kelly a fighter pilot was chosen to be Hawk's Terran liaison for the Project Sky Mates. During their communications, Hawk notices how attractive Kelly is and wonders and thinks about his parents who were Sky Mates. When they finally meet in person and the attraction between them sizzles, could Kelly be Hawk's mate even though he's not been matched by the DNA testing?

This is a terrific read for a fantastic adventure and wonderful characters
Hawk is a commander of three warriors of Sky’s End Hakkim and the warriors have travelled to earth in the hope that they may find perfect mate. In their cases their ideal mates will be pilots and they will have to be brave, intelligent, able to follow instructions so they could help with their missions.
Hawk knows that his world is depending on him and the squadron finding their matches and their ideal flying partners, he has considered all of the other warriors finding mates and not once had he thought of himself and his needs to find a mate after all Project Sky Mates is all important.
When Hawk claims Kelly as his Sky Mate it is close to the time, they have to return to their planet will Hawk claim her as his Sky Mate, read this wonderful story and you will discover the outcome.

I couldn’t put this down. It has fated/sky mates. There is action, fun and some steamy scenes too. Hawk is commander of his solos, a select few chosen to go to earth and see if they can find their sky mate. Kelly (crackers) is the earth liaison for the sky mates initiative. She’s working with hawk to find sky mates in the earth military, something both sides are desperate to work. When neither of them find a DNA match it’s not much of a problem, it also leaves them free to act on their growing feelings. Hawk and Kelly feel synergy with each other, however when hawk wants Kelly as his sky mate, they have to get dna tested again

This was a fun read that flowed well and the characters were laid out to have me totally invested in them. There are great Top Gun references that really hit me right, and the culture/politics were well described to make me feel like part of the story. A really entertaining read and I look forward to the next story!

I loved this story. The loyal, faithful, honest warrior Hawk and the strong, capable Kelly were perfectly matched and the wee bit of drama at the end just made it all the sweeter. The fact that they nurtured deep seated needs in each other added to the romance. I really enjoy a good series and I will be actively seeking out the next books as they come out.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Susan Grant! It was the first book I've read of hers and loved the way she writes. The characters are well fleshed out and the story keeps you eager to find out what happens next. It was fun to read the scenarios to Top Gun, and coming from two military families the lingo felt all to familiar. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

What a fun read, from the start there are sparks between the lead Sky Warrior that came with a training group that were looking for mates and the fighter pilot that was going to train them. How they bonded and overcame unexpected circumstances.

A DAZZLING AND IMAGINATIVE ROMANTIC JOURNEY
Get this book! Delve into the concept of a dating service for smokin' hot aliens crafted with cheesy “Top Gun” movie references, unique characters, clever dialogue, hot passion, and heart-pounding flight scenes. Within this scenario, Susan etches a daring love story between Kelly and Hakkim “Hawk” as they fall in love, and then must wrestle for their synergistic love against long-standing cultural traditions. Tissue alert!

Hint. “Hawk” is not a fluff book, unless you want it to be. Be on the lookout for a few key phrases that place this book on the intellectual human scale of life: i.e. “It was raw and messy and real. And he loved it.”

Susan, this book is a winner! Eager to read the sequel.

Sky warrior Major Hawk Hakkim has given up on finding a Sky Mate, his soul mate, but is happy to lead a mission for younger pilots to find their matches on Earth. Hawk thinks his Earth liaison for Project Sky Mates, the beautiful Kelly Ritz, would make someone a fine Sky Mate. DNA testing showed no match existed for Hawk on Earth. Wishful thinking wouldn’t change that but what happens when Hawk and Kelly feel Sky Mate synergy between them?

Hawk is a fun, angsty and steamy story that will have you cheering for the hero and heroine to get together. I can't wait to read Falcon, Book 2 of the Sky Mates series.

This is so much fun!

Glory hallelujah, this is a friendly encounter between two cultures alien to each other. There are some funny moments when the Sky’s End culture and the human culture are inexplicable to each other.

Hawk and Kelly each excel in their careers and are dedicated to them. They have lost any expectation of romantic relationships, so they are surprised by their attraction to one another! They agree on an affair. Their feelings grow…is this love? How would that work? They both have military commitments on separate planets!

Grab a copy so you don’t miss how they work this out! HEA guaranteed!

The sky is not the limit

This was a most interesting version of the Intergalactic Dating Agency franchise. It seems that the bioengineered flyboys of Sky's End have joined the Triad Alliance, along with the united governments of Earth. Webber, TX is the site the new interstellar Top Gun Academy, and Kelly"Crackers" Ritz is in charge the Sky Mates program to integrate the new Sky's End allied flyers with Earth and other alliance flying capabilities. Earth wants their superior flight tech; they want DNA-compatible Earth females to bond with their men, producing bioadapted flight pairs capable of flying their AI-interfaced Dragon war-birds. Major Hakkim "Hawk" leads the Sky crew. Neither Hawk nor Kelly want a mate - and their DNA excludes them. Too bad their every interaction contradicts both their stated wants and the DNA testing. The romance is slow-burn, sexy, and a far bumpier ride than their super flying, and the painful "Yea, you're Sky Mates" "Oops, no you aren't" see-saw ratchets the tension up to near-stratospheric levels - on two planets! What's best about the romance is the very genuine and real feel of it. No insta-lust, no mating pheromones - just a growing and ultimately undeniable love that forces planet-wide changes on multiple fronts. This is a far more complex book than many of the IGDA novels, and I for one found it intensely refreshing, if a teensy bit challenging to keep up with. Fitting, for a book that is all about the challenges and rewards of flying free.

A different kind of alien story. There is no abducting and the so the human woman meets the alien man on a somewhat level playing field. The world building is such that a galactic war is over and so previously adversaries are now allies. All because of the terrans, evidently. But we don’t really get the particulars.

Kelly is charged with overseeing a program where humans are matched with a Sky Warrior from Sky’s End. I don’t know what else they’re called. Oh, also Solos. They are at “Galactic Top Gun” school in Texas to be matched. Because they are certainly ahead of anything taught in the classes.

And they need to be matched to be able to fly the Dragon Ships, which require Sky Mates. “One plus one equals two and a half.” Okay.

Hawk hasn’t ever been matched. So he’s just the leader. Until he experiences “synergy” with Kelly. Then they are matched. But by that time they are already together.

Oh and Hawk has neural and other implants making him slightly silver. And his Sky Mate will also get a neural implant. Despite them being able to “read each other” organically.

Their theme is that Kelly was largely abandoned by her mom when her mom remarried. And Hawk has never been matched.

Errors:
“What would be learn?” — he
“She looked as if she was ready to cry.” — were

It’s an interesting spin on the alien stories and the instalove. There is another book but it appears the third has been delayed several times.

Loved Hawk and Kelly

The cyberneticly enhance people of Sky End have partnered with the Terran government to find mates for their elite warrior pilots. Major Hakkin "Hawk", will be Sky Ends representative on Earth. He will manage the first few warriors who have the potential to find a Terran mate.
Captain Kelly " Cracker" Ritz, fighter pilot, has been tapped to be the Terran liaison for the Sky Mate project. She is looking forward to meeting Major Hawk, her Sky End counterpart. Over the weeks preparing for his team's arrival on Earth, they have formed a friendly working relationship.
When Kelly and Hawk meet, their is an undeniable awareness. Hawk has long know that their is no mate for him. Kelly the same. The more time they spend together the stronger their bond becomes, and Hawk can't help but feel that despite all he has been told, he had found his sky mate in Kelly. He has to fight for them to stay together.
A fun, fast paced, sweet sweet and steamy military, alien romance.
Loved Hawk and his Sky Warriors. He and Kelly are so good together. Loved Hawk's parents, who supported them both, with no questions or reservations. A great addition to Triad Alliance and IDA worlds. Looking forward to Falcon and Dee's story.

Susan Grant has been in my top 10 must read authors for some time now and this book only reinforces that distinction. Ms. Grant has a way of putting you right into the middle of her books with her absolutely terrific storytelling and world building. She is able to make you see everything as she writes her stories and you feel everything that her characters are going through (sometimes blushing as you do so) and those characters are so delightful that you can't help cheer for their happily ever after. Hawk and Kelly's story is one where you are sure that you aren't going to find your soul mate, but when you do you have to fight to keep them forever. This story has everything that you could want; comedy, action, drama, conflict and of course hot romance (this is a Susan Grant book after all). This is the 1st book in the Sky Mates (Intergalactic Dating Agency) series and I can't wait for more. You will be sorry if you miss this absolutely delightful gem a book!

New author to me. Excellent writing with such an entertaining storyline mixed with humor and a hot sexy alien learning earth slang. It really was such a fun easy, light hearted read that the unexpected drama at the end slams into you and leaves you breathless with an 'that's not fair" and you find yourself rooting for Kelly and Hawk and the mess to resolve. My only complaint is that the excessive top gun movie references were OTT for me.

Sky warrior Major Hawk Hakkim, is unmated and while he feels an attraction to Captain Kelly Ritz from the beginning of their liaison, he dare not go near her as she might match to someone else. However as they meet he starts to have sensations, that feels awfully like a mate match. Then he find out she has not been matched and all bets are off, she is his. Great read and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Captain Kelly “Crackers” Ritz is a fighter pilot put in charge of a program where alien air warriors from Sky’s End come to Earth to find “Sky Mates.” It takes a mated pair to fly their technologically advanced ships and they haven’t been having any luck pairing mates for a number of years. It is critical that this last ditch effort at finding Sky Mates succeeds and Commander Hakkim “Hawk” is assigned to work with Kelly overseeing the project. They aren’t supposed to be part of the program, but there is an instant connection and Hawk is sure he’s found his Sky Mate. Even though there are obstacles to overcome, they have to find a way to make it work, because failure is not an option. I loved Hawk, the big alien warrior who is discovering Earth ways and is so smitten with Kelly. She has been avoiding love and it’s hard to trust her heart, but when she does, it’s magical. I can’t wait to read more in the series, this author’s stories are always such fun.

Clunky

It’s a pretty straightforward read, but shallow feeling and clunky in writing style. The love is sweet, yet it was always present and had very little burn; the things that kept them apart were pretty flimsy and unkempt.
The writing that would have shown the growth of romance, the substance of the characters was a little jumpy for me too. There seems to be a lot of text dedicated to unsubstantial things and then the story would skip ahead and the growth magically happened behind the scenes without the reader.

I also wasn’t terribly sold on the world building. If felt more like flimsy surface scaffolding rather than a well thought out foundation.

I also got a little tired of front loaded repetitive descriptions of the male lead and the almost excessive Top Gun references. Fewer might have had more impact especially if they weren’t over stated and over explained.

It was an okay read, but not something I would pick up again.

Another entertaining and different sci fi alien dating story from one of my favourite authors.
Very likeable main and secondary characters that I had no trouble bonding with.
I read this in one sitting as it was just such fun entertainment and I wanted to know how it ended.
Which didn’t go the expected easy simple route.
No, Ms Grant threw a huge spanner in the works, which I found exciting. But it means Hawk and Kelly’s story will be carried on as background filler in future books.
I just would have liked more explanation about the synergy connection which is the main part of being a sky mate.
I will be looking forward to seeing what happens in Hawk’s futuristic world.
Nice to have references to characters in some of this authors other series.
I have owned this book for a few months but delayed reading it as I was waiting for more to be written. As the author is now doing so, I decided it was time.

Major 'Hawk'; Hakkim and his team of unmated pilots are participating in a program named Project Sky Mates. Their ships are so technologically advanced that they require bonded mates to fly them. It has been 10 years since a match has happened on their planet and they are hoping to find mates on Earth. Earth liaison Kelly 'Cracker' Ritz, had been in contact with Hawk for several months trying to get ready for their arrival. Hawk was intrigued with Kelly before meeting her and looked forward to her text messages.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one! The characters are well-developed, relatable, and strong. There are plenty of emotional ups and downs and an entertaining plot. There were many humorous references to the movie Top Gun to provide light moments.

This is a fantastic story! I love reading anything by Susan Grant. I can never put her stories down and this one was no different. I enjoyed the interactions between Hakkim “Hawk” and Captain Kelly “Crackers” Ritz.

Hawk knows that he will never find his other half and be able to fly one of the Dragons like his parents but he has been assigned to go with a group of other fighters to help them find their mates with humans. Kelly has been assigned to be their liaison. She is much better at flying than relationships. She is hoping this will help her get promotion. Hawk feels things for her even though he shouldn't prior to their meeting. There is something about her that h can't deny. He wants her as his mate even if others don't believe it. Will they be able to find a way to stay together?
