Robbie: “When I spotted Edward strolling down the stairs at our local high school, tall, lean, muscular, and beautiful, a girl on both arms, it was then we locked eyes, and I knew he was the man I’d wanted all my life. I was seventeen openly gay, he was nineteen a football hero and straight, or so I thought until that fortuitous day when he asked me to come to his home after graduation.
I never did recover from that day and that’s why I waited and waited until he would kiss me, set me free, and I would no longer be under his spell. What I didn’t realize was that this high school crush would last almost a lifetime because I longed for his touch and never got it. I longed for his love, and he never gave it, and that’s why I said to him, “Love me or leave me.”
Brandon: “The moment our eyes met and Robbie's gaze wandered across the room and I discovered who he had his eyes fixed on, I knew that some day when he became tired of waiting for Edward to claim him, he would know then he belonged to me, and I’d be there to take him in my arms and make him forget Edward Houston, however, I just didn’t know how long that would take and whether I was willing to hang around even if he was the love of my life.
This is a standalone novel with straight to gay, fake boyfriend, enemies to lovers, and HEA.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I really did not think I would actually like M/M gay books. This book was very goid. It has a bit of everything, emotion wise. It was fun to read because I never really thought men as virgins. I don't know why. Wonderful book, cannot wait to read more of Sky's work.
This was a hard story for me to rate. I think it deserves more than one star but for the most part two stars is too much. I loved the premise, I love the cover, I'm a big lover of virgin characters and I love past crushes, second chance stories but as far as the story itself goes, it didn't work for me.
I didn't really like any of the characters. Robbie let people walk all over him throughout the whole book and just never grew up, Brandon and Edward were arrogant and borderline bullies, I wasn't able to connect to any of them. I also had trouble with the writing style, it felt amateurish or maybe a better word is simplistic.
I really did see a lot of promise here but unfortunately the execution failed. I hate when that happens.
TAGS -- high school crush -- looking for a second chance -- virgin character -- great premise -- disliked the MCs -- couldn't connect -- had trouble with the writing style -- maybe it's me and not the story -- love the cover
It had potential, but there was a lot wrong with it. I was very intrigued with the synopsis, but the story didn't deliver. Spoilers below:
Robbie is a pathetic romantic. He wants so badly to be loved (especially in his small town) that he strongly believed one glance from Edward meant he would be the one to make it happen. And he spends about seven years of his life saving himself for someone he spoke to twice and then who completely dismissed him and was cold to him once they reunited. Previous reviews warned me about him being pathetic so I wasn't surprised. I was still rooting for him a bit to have some self-respect, and the synopsis states he was going to tell Edward to "love me or leave me," but when he finally thinks it, it never happens! I was waiting for him to grow a backbone but it didn't really happen, even when he ran away from Edward. Robbie kept going back and forth with his realization with Edward. First he's like, "I'm a joke to him. He's treating me badly. I'm going to say something" to "It's okay as long as I'm around him. I am so devoted to him that he'll see me one day and then appreciate and love me" back to "he hasn't done anything with me and I'm like his servant." It got super annoying and dragged out. Then he kept saying "I'm going to decide on my own and make my own huge mistakes because I decided that" to "I can't believe I didn't listen to people who wanted to protect me, I could have made the biggest mistake of my life." I understand it was part of his naivety and innocence but it was just annoying.
As for Brandon, when we first are introduced to him it was promising but then was a let down. The time they could have connected was instead used for Brandon to sleep on Robbie. Plus we didn't even get Brandon's POV of their first encounter! He went from being super rude to doing a 180 and being a rude flirt to plain flirting when they meet again the same day! It made no sense and so his obsession or attraction towards Robbie made no sense and came out of nowhere and wasn't even explained when Robbie asked. We got his POV twice near the end and I think we should have gotten more of it. Also you think, from the synopsis, it's going to be this whole ordeal with him waiting patiently for Robbie and wondering if he should even wait but it was literally only three months and he was out of the country during that time. He wasn't waiting around for Robbie. There was purely just attraction towards each other and a protective alpha instinct, nothing more.
There were so many inconsistencies with details like someone knowing another to how a scene played out from different POVs. Here are a few examples: 1. From the beginning, Edward says these suggestive things to Robbie, being all alpha and crap, but then it's revealed that he's a bottom and would never enjoy penetrating a boy/man? Why would he even be interested in or even seduce Robbie, who is described as a twink and who obviously wanted Edward to be the top, in the first place? It made no sense. 2. Edward and Brandon are a bit competitive with Robbie so they obviously know that the other knows him, and when Edward let's Brandon into his party he even mentions that the person serving people is someone he knows (Robbie), but when Brandon sees the back of Robbie and says he likes what he sees Edward asks him if he knows him. Like what? Why would Edward ask such a stupid question? 3. Then there is a scene first told in Robbie's POV and then Brandon's but the dialogue and scene are completely different from what we were told from Robbie's POV.
There are so many more inconsistencies but I don't want to get into them. Then there were just silly grammatical mistakes that should have been spotted in the first round of edits. Additionally, most of the dialogue was super weird and awkward.
1 star ratings are very rare for me. I don't like to give them because I don't want to be rude to the author who spent time on their story. Yet I had to here. Why? Well, despite the story being interesting, there were so many things wrong with it: Inconsistencies in dialogue, descriptions and events. For example Robbie says he's 24 but then has his 24th birthday during one of Edward's parties Constant repetition Cringe worthy dialogue Unlikeable characters Yeah, so not a fan. I wanted to like Robbie but who waits 7 years for a guy who barely spoke to him? He was such a doormat and everyone treated him like dirt. Brandon was kind of interesting but a tad skeevy
Poor character Development; Blah storyline; mediocre climax, including the “big O”:
Extremely annoying, and barely relatable characters with almost non-existent character development. Everytime more than a day pases by for the very general storyline, the story just skips the time and has no reflection or growth over events. Maybe once or twice a reference is made, crammed into the dialogue of the next scene that sums up how the previous experience was “always on his mind” over the time since, but the main character remains an annoying, and willfully undeveloped and ignorant bystander to the story happening to him.
I think the most annoying part in the storyline is toward the end when the author starts to alternate character perspectives. The story begins to change voices, in a way that brings no real substance to the plot, and if anything only serves to allow the brief and disappointing “love scene” in the last chapter to have a “Dom” edge to it, since the undeveloped virginal character had to literally be told to accept sex in the end after finally being convinced to forget his long-time crush and go with the hot, and protective stranger guy.
For the few chapters where we alternate back and forth between these character perspectives, the story plays out in one scene, then jumps backward in the next perspective to retell it from the other character’s POV, but becomes chaotic in the flow of time, and doesn’t end in the same place entirely as the previous chapter/viewpoint. It was aggravating and disorganized and disorienting to read the ending chapters.
The climax of the main character finally realizing he was about to be taken advantage of by the high school crush in a “threesome” scenario with a secret “Top” boyfriend was such a nondescript experience; after the character of Robbie had basically been a juvenile moron and a doormat for years of time up to this point in the story, it was unbelievable that suddenly he had this intuitive breakthrough and bypassed what would have essentially been a grave manipulation and potential sexual assault, to finally make the right decision and go for the “Good Guy,” instead. It just wasn’t believable for the way he was written. He had absolutely zero redeeming qualities and then suddenly is perceptive to what’s going on? I’m glad the character gets to avoid a traumatic experience, but he never really learned anything along the way. It was all so unrealistic that it was impossible to lose myself in any of the characters in order to enjoy the brief erotic fantasy elements.
And finally, on that note: erotic fantasy here equals vague teasing and ultra slow burn for the “prize” of maybe a few paragraphs of intimacy in the final pages, but no passion. What was built as erotic awakening throughout winds up with basically a few moments of “just let go and trust me to show you the ropes,” [Brandon] and “ok, oh yeah, this is great and feels so good,” [Robbie] and then a promise that this is only the beginning, and now that the characters are “together forever,” the sex is also going to just get better over time….. ok, but you gotta give me something to make me believe that. This book was a let down the whole way through. Thank godZ it was short so I didn’t have to struggle too hard to get through it.

When I got the email from this author about a new book, I put it on my TBR shelf, then later on the same author asked for ARC readers and I replied. But I have to give my honest opinion because that is what the author asked for.
I was not impressed by Robbie, I understand that he was young, naive and inexperienced but you should have some kind of self respect or self confidence or even self worth but he was lacking in all the areas and let both Edward and Brandon walk all over him. It was a hard read for me.
This book wasn't for me but I was given an ARC by the author for my honest opinion.
I really liked this book. It actually turned out better than I expected. The main character Robbie is hopelessly infatuated with Edward, a highschool boy who is in the closet. The character of Brandon is something unexpected: he's rude and presumptuous at the beginning when they first met, showing no interest in a country boy. But then, they keep bumping into each other and starting to feel something for each other. It's also nice to see some other characters I've met by reading the Fascination Series
First I enjoy how the characters from different stories intermingle. Second this story was awesome, but all this authors books end perfectly with the perfect partner and always very romantic. Yes there is drama, angst and poor judgement but that only makes each character real.
DNF... I just couldn't do that to me and finish... Just as other said, synopsis looked good, the book itself was bad... Inconsistent, confusing and pretty quickly annoying...
Robbie has had a crush on Edward for years and saving his 'extra' virginity for when Edward finally opens his eyes to what they could have together. Jump ahead to years later and Robbie FINALLY sees what a user Edward is, but by then he's realizing his feelings for Edward are finally waning and his feelings for Brandon have taken over his every thought.
Despite the fact the story was only 2 hours long... it was too long. Too much of every little thing going on in Robbie's life over the years that Edward had no part of. Edward is a user. From the start Brandon was an annoying a**. Because the first 15 chapters were all from Robbie's POV I couldn't tell by Brandon's actions if he was truly interested in Robbie... If he was playing a game with Edward to see who got Robbie in the end... or if he was just a huge jerk overall. The end seemed too much like insta-love. It was FAST. Boom and they were together forever.
If it had been cut a lot shorter and we'd had more insight to Brandon's POV I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

What he got was nothing. He'd been left behind and forgotten. Then New York happened and there were too many negatives. Robbie's friend Stan, whom I felt so sorry for, despite his caustic attitude (his story is going to be interesting) and Edward, who was the epitome of someone who saw you but didn't. "I guessed everyone was entitled to one big mistake, especially if you were young and thought you were in love." It took gallery owner Brandon to open Robbie's eyes to reality. One click and discover how he did it.
Some stories captivate you from the beginning, other give you a grand ending. Sky doused this book with some much and yet so little and still kept me on the edge of my seat. I actually yelled at my Kindle at several points when Robbie completely exhausted me, or when Stan opened his mouth. I needed to know who would win and by what means. Through it all, I felt so badly for Edward and his life. I would not mind even a short story chronically how he went from small town boy to his life in New York.
What a good story. Seriously waiting for more from this world.
Robbie deserve a fucking award for. The Most Stupid Man Alive.....!!!!
He was so BLINDED with his irrational crush for Edward. He foolishly waiting for almost 7 fucking years for Edward. For nothing..! I thought he was just naive teenage boy but he was just plain stupid. His stupidness sometimes unbearable. Brandon in the other side, was a really patient man. Took his time trying to romancing Robbie with zero result. lol.
Let me just give a little hint about Edward. There's more than meets the eye. If you wanna know, you need to read this book to find out :)
After what I've been through, Robbie really played with my heart and my emotions, I need my HAPPY ENDING.
HFN ending is all I've got. SOOOOOO DISSAPOINTED....!!!!
If you want more of their story, you have to wait for Sky Mccoy new upcoming serie though.
