Fifteen-year-old Chantal Evans just wants to make a little money at her summer job and find the nerve to talk to the gorgeous boy who frequents the restaurant where she works. But she’s making a habit of choosing the wrong friends and winding up in the wrong place at the wrong time. She keeps telling her mom that she doesn’t go looking for trouble, it just always seems to find her, but that becomes a hard story to sell when Chanti lands herself in the middle of a police investigation. And that’s only the beginning of her troubles.
Good short story! Chanti (Chantal) Evans is a dedicated high school junior and a snoop who lives in Colorado. She has the "summertime blues" due to her monotonous restaurant job and unrequited love for her crush. But an unexpected new friendship could shake-up the summer break for this young "Nancy Drew."
The book has a good storyline and an engaging realistic plot. This is the prequel for this teen mystery series. Quoted as: "Homegirl. Prepster. Girl detective."
Chanti reflects on her mom's growing idea: "...trying to get me into some fancy private school doesn't seem far-fetched, though I'm not sure how she'd pay for it" (kindle p. 45).
