Even war heroes need a little help sometimes... After spending years fighting for his country and too damn long learning to navigate life with a prosthetic leg, Grant Silver returns to Silver Island to figure out a future he couldn’t fathom without fatigues and a gun in his hand. He’d almost forgotten how a man could suffocate from the warmth and caring community in which he’d grown up, and if that weren’t bad enough, his buddies’ beautiful and far-too-chipper younger sister won’t stop flitting into his life, trying to sprinkle happy dust everywhere she goes.
As a cancer survivor, Jules Steele knows better than to count on seeing tomorrow. She doesn't take a single moment for granted, and she isn’t about to let a man who used to be charming and full of life waste the future he’s been blessed with. She's determined to get through to him, even if it takes a few steamy kisses...

"What sets Melissa Foster apart are her compelling characters who you care about... desperately...I dare you to read the first chapter and not be hooked." International bestseller, M.J. Rose
"Melissa Foster is a wonderful connector of readers and books, a friend of authors, and a tireless advocate for women. She is the real deal"--Author Jennie Shortridge
"'Sometimes you have to wait for the right person, and then every moment is the right time for something.'" This is not my first Melissa Foster book, and you'd think I'd be prepared for it this time...right? WRONG! Just when I think I can't be kicked in the feels anymore, here she comes to take me on yet another emotional rollercoaster.
"She wished he could see her dreams, so he would understand that she dreamed of him exactly as he was, missing leg, scars, and all." I can't even begin to tell you just how much I loved Grant. He's just so much. Grant spent years abroad fighting for his country, until an IED almost took his life and left him without part of his leg. He's angry, he's bitter to leave his other life behind and come back to Silver Island. And yet, the heart on this man! It's all-encompassing. He's just too much for me to take.
"'Jules Steele, saving the world one lost or lonely soul at a time.'" I'm what people call a 'glass half empty' kind of girl, so I kind of expected Jules to annoy me. Quite the opposite, though. I truly felt like I want to be her, and see the good in people, in things, in the world. She is unlike any other person. I love her quirks. I love that she makes up her own lyrics to songs everyone knows and loves. She's just pure heart.
"'You haven’t just changed my world, Pix.” He touched his lips to hers. “You’ve become my world.'" Grant doesn't want to see people's pity for him, and so he stays away from his friends and family once he's back. But Jules has other ideas, because she knows him, and because she wants what's best for him. And so she starts a crusade to get him to see himself as more than just someone who lost a limb – to see himself as the wonderful person he is, as a man deserving of happiness.
She is there for him, in small gestures, in the little things, showing him people care. And, most of all, showing him she cares. She's cared for a while, but now she will have to use her magic dust to tear down the self-imposed walls Grant has put up, one tiny little piece at a time. And can I just say the nickname Pixie, or Pix, is just the sweetest, sexiest thing ever!
"I’m used to being in control of my feelings, but what I feel when I’m with you is bigger than me" It's so beautiful, magical, and heartwarming to see their feelings for each other grow. It's wonderful to see the way she waltzes into his life and leaves her lasting mark on everything she touches. On the rundown shack he calls home. On his mood. On his heart.
Jules truly loves Grant for who he is, and she doesn't back down. Not even when he doesn't believe in himself. She's always there. And those walls are coming down...and once they do...I can't even! The two of them, together? This is not just chemistry and sparks flying, this is a full-blown forest fire! (don't even get me started on the firepit and shower scenes!)
"He’d thought she’d made him feel whole, but he was wrong. It was them, their love, that made him whole." Healing takes on different shapes. In Grant's case, he needed someone who believed in him, and who cared enough to heal him inside, and it couldn't be anyone else but Jules.
I sort of imagine them as real people, out back, Grant's arms around Jules as they watch the sunset. And a little pixie hovering over them, sprinkling them with some more magic dust – not that they need it, mind you, because this is a love for the ages!
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I enjoyed every moment of this story. A note of warning: if you are a reader who tears up while reading emotional stories then you will need a box or two of tissues. Foster outdone herself on this one.
My True Love centres around Grant Silver and Jules Steele. Grant has returned home to Silver Island after losing his leg in an explosion while serving his country. The accident and the resulting consequence changed him. Depressed and angry, he withdrew himself from his family and friends. He avoided social activities and anything which required any form of interaction with others.
Jules decided enough was enough, and she made it her duty to pull Grant out of his current state and restore his once vibrant personality while reconnecting with his family and friends.
My heart grieved for Grant. I wouldn’t understand what it means to lose a limb, but it was clear he was not in a good place. Stir in unresolved issues from the past and you have a bomb ready to explode. However, Jules storming into his life proved the perfect defuse.
Jules optimistic approach to life made her a hit with everyone. She tries to find the good in a bad situation. Therefore, it came as no surprise when Grant became her new project. Soon she would wear him down with her adorable attempts.
If given the choice in choosing my favourite Melissa Foster couple, Grant and Jules would top the list. Their interactions which had me smiling and tearing up and many times throughout the story. What a treat to see them both work through their issues together.
Readers who love their romance hot and sweet will be in for a treat. My True Love had the perfect blend of heat and sweetness.
Foster creates secondary characters one cannot help but love, and this time was no different. They added life to the story with their pranks, teasing and advice.
In this captivating and inspiring story that pulls the reader into the lives of the characters, readers are reminded that love is a powerful emotion that facilitates healing and restoration. My True Love was simply a beautiful story of healing, love, and finding one’s purpose.
My True Love swept me away. It is a magical, heartwarming romance. This book will make you feel all the feels, over and over again. You will fall in love with Jules and Grant, one page at a time and just when you think you couldn’t love them more, you do. Never have I ever wanted to see two people get together, as I did this couple.
Grant is broken, both inside and out and no one seems to be able to get through to him. Jules is awe inspiring. She is a phenomenal woman. Having survived cancer, she lives for each and every day and chooses to be positive and live her best life. The world is a better place with her in it and soon Grant’s life will become infinitely better as well, when Jules makes it her mission, to make him see the good in everyday.
Watching Grant fall in love with Jules and knowing how much Jules already was in love with Grant, made this an unputdownable romance. Never have I ever been as turned on by a couple kissing, as I was by Grant and Jules - is kissing porn a thing? If it’s not, it is now! Do yourself a favor, read this book as ASAP as possible, trust me, you’re going to love it. My True Love has made my Top 5 List of 2021, thank you Melissa for making book magic happen.
Oh my...this book...it has all the feels. A wounded war veteran who can't see a future, and a happy little pixie who survived cancer as a child and likes to sprinkle her happy dust wherever she goes. There are some harrowing scenes, but Melissa Foster never shies away from real-life disabilities. She meets them head-on, and although you may cry at the heart-wrenching moments, there are plenty of laughs too. The children are always so well written you can't help but fall in love with them, and the siblings love for each other - and their friends - along with the pranks, makes this a thoroughly enjoyable read. You will want to visit Silver Island, not only for all the hunky men, but for the shops, the winery...it sounds so blissful. Relax with a cuppa and enjoy!
4.5 stars--MY TRUE LOVE is the second instalment in Melissa Foster’s contemporary, adult THE STEELES OF SILVER ISLAND erotic, romance series-a spin off from the author’s LOVE IN BLOOM series. This is thirty-three year old, US Special Forces vet Grant Silver, and twenty-five year old, store owner Jules Steele’s story line. MY TRUE LOVE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Grant and Jules) MY TRUE LOVE follows the friends to lovers relationship between thirty-three year old, former US Special Forces soldier Grant Silver, and twenty-five year old, store owner Jules Steele. Grant Silver has been struggling for a very long time since the implosion of his parent’s relationship, and his recent discharge from the US army following an IED explosion that resulted in the loss of his lower left leg. Unable to settle, Grant remains secluded away from everyone including family and friends, friends like store owner Jules Steele, a young woman whose has loved Grant for most of her life. As Grant continues to struggle with the upcoming holidays, Jules pushes our hero to move on with his life, a life she hopes will include their own happily ever after but Grant continues to battle to the demons from his past, and the possibility that he is no longer a viable member of society. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Grant and Jules, and the potential fall-out as Grant feels lost without the next mission, and his time with Jules may only be a temporary hold-over until something else may come along.
Jules Steele is a spunky, quirky, cheerful idealist and optimistic person that finds the positive in everything and everyone including Grant Silver. Unable to stand back and watch Grant spiral out of control, Jules begins a campaign of ‘signs’ in the hopes of pushing Grant back together with family, in an effort to prove that everyone deserves love and a happily ever after. Grant Silver battles between head and heart believing he is unworthy of our story line heroine. Struggling with his family’s unconventional dynamics, Grant is biding his time until he is able to move away from Silver Island, and the family legacy that continues to haunt but Grant will be blind sided when the truth is revealed, a truth that will change his perspective going forward.
The relationship between Grant and Jules is a friends to lovers, a relationship in which Grant struggles. Believing himself unworthy of Jules love, Grant continues push away our story line heroine until he realizes that Jules is the woman that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including both immediate and extended families for both the Silvers and the Steeles; Grant’s siblings Fitz, Bellamy, Keira, and Wells, and their parents Margot and Alexander; Jules’ siblings Archer, Jock, Levi, and Leni, their parents Shelley and Steve, and grandmother Lenore.
MY TRUE LOVE is a story of family and relationships, loss, struggle and acceptance, friendships and love. The premise is emotional and real; the romance is seductive and intimate; the characters are playful and protective. MY TRUE LOVE is a wonderful and uplifting story.
My True Love Book by Melissa Foster is book 2 in The Steeles at Silver Island Series. This is the story of Grant and Jules. I have read the previous book but did think you can make it a standalone book if you wish to do so. I am such a fan of Ms. Foster that I have never read a bad story from her. This book was just as good and pulled on my heart strings. Grant has returned home to Silver Island after getting injured in the military and he is a amputee now. Feeling nothing but a lost to what his life could have been and not wanting to see any good in his life. Grant instead becomes a grumpy hermit but his friend Jules works to bring him out of the darkness. Jules has had a medical issue early in her life which has made her look for the good and want to share the enjoyment of life. This was such a good read...highly recommend it!!!
I love the troubled hero who thinks he doesn’t deserve the life he was giving and the confident heroine who makes him see what he’s missing. Melissa weaved this beautiful love story that gives you all the feels with sexiness mixed in. Jules is the happy go lucky girl that tries to make everything better.
Grant wants to live the life of solitude but Jules has other plans for him. She sets out to make Grant see what is in front of his eyes while trying to keep her feelings in check. Grant too tries to tamper his feelings until he can’t deny the chemistry. I loved that these two were friends first building up to so much more. The connection was unbreakable and the chemistry was off the charts.
Melissa writes the romance that gets you in the feels while giving you a little sweet and sexy. She gives you characters to love and a story that is relatable.
I’m really loving the Steele’s and Silver Island and can’t wait for more.
My True Love by Melissa Foster is the second book in The Steeles at Silver Island Book Series. If you are craving a small town, siblings’ best friend, grumpy hero, sunshine heroine romance, this is the book for you.
There are several references from book one in the series, Tempted by Love: Jack "Jock" Steele (The Steeles at Silver Island Book 1) which I didn’t read prior. I recommend reading the first book in the series as I would have liked to have known the backstory behind Jules (the main character in this book)’s bothers Jock and Archer and their history of family turmoil. Still, it was referenced and explained, so you can definitely read My True Love without reading Tempted by Love: Jack "Jock" Steele (The Steeles at Silver Island Book 1)’s story first. I would actually go back and read book one. You can do the same as they don’t need to be read in order.
In My True Love Grant Silver 33, returns home after an accident destroyed his career that he has worked his entire life for. Grant is a war hero and was injured during a mission that led to a leg amputation leading him to live his life with a prosthetic leg. Grant is so angry and having such a hard time adjusting or his new normal, as he has every right to be. His family doesn’t understand why he’s shut all of them out and become such a shut in, living in his lonely bungalow in the middle of nowhere far away from his family and friends. It’s so frustrating to read how his family isn’t understanding of why he’s being introverted at the moment. I was angry for Grant and deeply felt and understood his pain.
As a chronic illness suffer who lost my career due to my illness, I can empathize with this book on another level. I saw parts of myself in Grant that only someone who has had tragedy turn them jaded can understand. Grant is jaded. He feels as though everyone treats him differently now and looks at him with pity.
Jules Steel is a cancer survivor and always looks at the world with rose colored glasses. She sees things differently than everyone else. The woman never seems to complain and loves living on Silver Island with her family and friends whom she is very close with. Jules has an ideal life on Silver Island. At just 25 she owns her own store and is content with every aspect of living. It was interesting to see someone who lives their life that way’s perspective as it is so different than my own.
Jules decides that she doesn’t want to allow Grant to wallow in his misery She knows the real Grant. The lovable, kind man she’s known her whole life and her best friend Bellamy’s older brother. They were all very close growing up so when Jules sees her lifelong friend Grant struggling, she makes it her personal mission to help him.
I loved the message in My True Love about moving on after experiencing loss. Even though Grant has lost so much, he also has a lot to live for. Somehow, the girl he’s always known his entire life and never saw as anything other than his little sister’s best friend, has become so much more.
The book takes us through the relationship with Jules and Grant and Grant navigating his deeper family issues that were buried for years. I enjoyed reading this story however I felt it was about 150-200 pages too long. I personally felt that some of the scenes were dragging. That could however, work for some readers as the scenes I felt bored with at times were the small town, lovey scenes that some people might love.
I’d rate this 3.5 stars and would recommend to readers who love small town romances and stories that are very sweet that star a grumpy hero and sunshine heroine. Just keep in mind that it’s very long and doesn’t have too much climax.
I received an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
My True Love was the second book in the Steeles at Silver Island series by Melissa Foster and one of many in her Love In Bloom series.
Jules Steele was the bubbly, cheery, positive, happy go lucky force that brought joy and happiness everywhere she went. She was quirky and eccentric - in a good way.
Grant Silver was Jule’s exact opposite. He was broody, curt and anti-social. But he had reason to be as a war hero who now was learning to manage life with a prosthetic leg. Yet there was so much more to Grant than met the eye.
True to form for Foster, My True Love was heartfelt, emotional, flirty, fun and packed full of life lessons. And as also expected from Foster, it was well written, well developed, complex and multi-dimensional. As a bonus, we were not only graced with the loyalty and bonding of the Steele family but were introduced to the Silver family as well.
All in all, although emotional, it was enjoyable and entertaining. It was also a great segue into the third book of the series, Caught By Love, focusing on Jule’s brother, Archer. Bring him on!
This book was horrific. Never have i ever attempted to read something so bad, this puts wattpad books in a more positive light.
The female character Jules is bloody annoying, giving big second hand embarrassment, constantly going on about the fact that she survived cancer WHEN SHE WAS THREE and that she survived and I quote ‘my purpose is to help other people on this world’ or ‘I survived for a reason’ bs, honestly hated her. I thought she was about 12 with the way she was written in the first few chapters with the fact that SHE ACTS LIKE A CHILD, and it gets even worse when you learn that her friends act the same as her and they are all 25 y/o.
The male character Grant is okay, I enjoyed his character for the 17% of the book I read, and that’s all I have to say on his character.
Ino, the blurb or summary hypes up the book wayyyyy too much and the book then does not do the summary justice, with the chapters being too long and nothing actually happening.
Would I reread? No. Would I recommend this book? No.
I’m sorry, I just couldn’t deal with the paragraphs of dialogue. Not every conversation needs to be a monologue. That’s not how real life conversations work.
I need to buy some stock in a tissue company because whenever I read a Melissa Foster book I usually go through quite a bit, with this book I used an entire box!!!
I don't think I was ready for Grant, I knew enough about him to know that this was going to be an emotional read because of his time in the military and being injured but WOW his backstory goes MUCH deeper than that, so much deeper, and I just wasn't prepared for the emotions it drew from me. I think I am going to have to read a rom-com next just to balance things out. 😉
Jules is Little Miss Sunshine, and no I am not be sarcastic when I say that. She brightens up the room when she walks in, everyone loves her, and she has a cheerful personality that you just can't help gravitating towards. I for one would love to be friends with her, she is the person that goes out of her way to make everyone's day better. So isn't it fitting that Miss Sunshine and Mr. Grouch are perfect together, kind of like yin and yang.
Melissa Foster has a way of crafting a story that makes us feel as if we are a part of it. As we watch things unfold we have enough of a background on each of the characters that we are invested in their happiness which is why I get so emotional when I read her books. I laugh, I cry, and yes there are even a few times I may have yelled at my kindle, but I know no matter how many obstacles get in their way along their journey in the end we will be gifted with a happy ending.
NO SPOILERS but I want to say that one part towards the very end of the book had me in hysterics, if you enjoy practical jokes you are going to love this one!
If you like Small Town Romances, Best Friends Sibling Romances, Emotional Reads, Military Romances, Steamy Romances, Age Gap Romances, or Contemporary Romances I highly recommend this book to you.
I instantly fell in love with Grant, Jules and their story.
Grant is an amputee and doesn’t believe he deserves the life he has. He prefers to live a life alone. Jules, a cancer survivor, lives life to the absolute fullest. Jules wants Grant to enjoy life, to live it to the fullest and she makes it her mission to show him just that. I loved seeing the relationship between them grow and Grant realizing that he does deserve happiness as he spends more time with Jules. She was able to show Grant he is still the same man he always was before the accident.
This story has heat, it has love, it has joy, it has emotions. Grant and Jules story truly takes you on a journey from the start and it is a journey that you’ll never want to end. Jules infectious outlook makes you want to not waste any day and live your life to the fullest every single day.
If you’re looking for a small town, best friends brother, grump hero romance this is one to read!
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. Wow, this story will come at you from every direction and get you in the feels one way or the other. Grant is a survivor, he spent years fighting for his country until the unthinkable happened. Now he is back home on Silver Island and trying to live each day without hating everyone and everything. Jules is a survivor, a cancer survivor, and knows that there may not be any more tomorrows. So she lives each day to the fullest and is thankful for each one she gets to share with family and friends. Jules remembers Grant as a person charming and full of life and she will not let him throw away the second chance he was given even if he is missing a leg. As they spend time together, he begins to see that there is something about her that makes him want to be close to her always. As their feelings grow for each other he is seeing that things might not be so bad on Silver Island after all as long as Jules is by his side. Can Grant give living life on Silver Island a chance? Will Jules make him see that life is worth living if you have family and friends? What happens with Jules and Grant if his team calls him back? I love Melissa Foster's books, she has a way of drawing you into a story as if you are part of it and part of the families. I highly recommend any of her books, doesn't matter where you start, just read them. You will not be disappointed.
You’ve only scratched the surface of the great things you were meant to do
Jules Steele is the happiness pixie of Silver Island; she spreads happiness wherever she goes and finds the good in any situation. She’s had her sights set on helping grouchy Grant Silver find his happiness once more.
When Grant lost part of his leg on a mission, his whole world changed; now he’s angry and lost, while feeling smothered as everyone tip-toes around him. However, Jules meets him head-on and is determined to help him see a brighter future.
I loved Jules and all the happiness she spread; her doormats, cushions and pixie dust were just the things that I needed to read about at this time. So many people in the world need more hope and happiness after the last year and this story hit all the right spots for me.
As a quadriplegic I've always been drawn to stories with characters I can relate to, unconventional characters who've had life experiences like mine. With its complex, emotionally bruised veteran, this is just such a story as the scars Grant carries run deep and are both seen and unseen by others. Add in a heroine who's also been put through life's wringer and readers will find themselves captivated by this couple and rooting for them every step of the way to finally put their pasts behind them in order to embrace HEA.
Grant Silver's the town grump! A veteran of war who returned home an amputee. He's angry, bitter, with no idea of where to go or what to do...except continue to be angry and keep pushing everyone away. The moment he locks eyes with Jules is the moment everything changes for him though in a journey that saw the walls around his heart collapse as he finally found a reason to start living. Like the Grinch's heart that grew two sizes, so too does Grant's heart once the sunny and sweet Jules spends time with him. Despite his brooding nature I absolutely loved Grant! I could understand his anger and frustrations and just wanted to hug him for all he's felt. Jules entering his life was therefore a godsend with their time together being richly rewarding and a healing balm to his soul. Together they made me cry, smile, all while warming my heart. Grant was always a hero in my eyes, but his time with Jules (and the embracing of life he engaged in with each turn of the page) showed an even more heroic man as he bravely worked through the harsh realities of being disabled. They were a special couple and were the fuel driving this story to it's immensely satisfying conclusion.
Jules Steele has had her own traumatic life after her recent successful battle with cancer. Instead of dwelling on the negatives throughout her battle she focused on the positives, embracing life to the fullest and treating each day like it was her last in her triumphant battle. Readers quickly discover that Jules has always had an attraction to Grant, so it pains her to see how hard he's struggling. To help ease his pain she makes it her mission to make things better for him in sweet and heartwarming moments that slowly bring them closer together. It becomes a journey that not only heals the heart but also heals the soul in a slow-burn romance that wrapped itself around me like a warm blanket. Jules is an inspirational heroine, a sweet and supportive young woman everybody's drawn to for her outgoing nature. That's not to say that she doesn't understand pain and sadness though after experiencing all that throughout her battle with cancer. She's just chosen a different path, one of rising above all the past pain, which makes her just who Grant needs in their empowering journey to HEA.
From the first page to the last Ms. Foster has crafted a powerful story, one that pushed all my emotional buttons in presenting a journey of healing and self-acceptance. With each turn of the page Ms. Foster dealt with issues of disability in a straightforward way, showing the reality of disability in life and in love. She fully immersed me in the reality of this couple and had me finding my own connection to them through my own life experiences. Along with this emotionally engaging main couple were the equally appealing denizens of Silver Island, a cast of secondary characters who were funny and supportive in their dealings with this pair. They added color, a caring atmosphere, and a support system while acting as subtle matchmakers too. On a whole this is the kind of book you wish everyone would read as it's a realistic and eye-opening journey of living with a disability/overcoming adversity. It's an empowering read and a feel-good story that warms the heart and soul and I give a big high-five to Ms. Foster for crafting this epic love story!
My True Love is the exciting second book in the Steele’s at Silver Island series by Melissa Foster, and I was lucky to receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Every time I think Foster has excelled herself, she conjures two more equally charming and fascinating characters for me to become obsessed with, and from the moment I heard about Grant Silver and Jules Steele, I knew this book was going to be special.
Grant is an ex soldier, who was wounded at war and has returned to Silver Island. He is brooding, angry at life and his situation, and feels like he’s had his dream and future cruelly snatched away from him. He’s reclusive, avoids socialising and is very much determined to leave the island as soon as he’s able to figure out a plan. But like all good romances, there’s a darling heroine in the form of Jules Steele to twist and change his mind.
Jules is a ray of sunshine, she’s an eternal optimist and a true-to-life pixie who casts a magical spell on Grant and enchants him. She is desperate for Grant to see all he has left in his life, reminding him of how much his family care about him, and how much she enjoys spending time with him. She decides in true pixie fashion to leave him little gifts, attempting to coax him back into the hobbies and pastimes he’s loved. It’s sweet and endearing and creates a real depth to their romance.
I loved the sweet romantic tension between Grant and Jules. It felt like both were physically missing a part of themselves to be able to emotionally be whole with one another. Grant allows his walls to fall, and Jules fully opens her heart and trusts him to do right by her. She doesn’t see his injury or his disability, she sees a man she loves, and their love is deep and meaningful in all the best ways.
Grant and Jules are both inspirational characters in their own right, one an amputee struggling to come to terms with a new way of living, the other a cancer survivor who knows how important life can be and is determined to grasp it in both hands and not dwell on the negatives. This book left me with that all encompassing warm fuzzy feeling and I was completely smitten with their love story.
This is the perfect read for those who love real intricate and heartfelt romances, and not to mention on fire chemistry. Connections run deep in all of Foster’s books, and once you read one I can guarantee you will end up binge reading.
rep: hearing loss, amputee I thought this book was cute, a very character driven, emotional growth romance! All and all I did enjoy this book but it did fall a little flat for me unfortunately. I read this book for disability December and while I will say I thought the disability representation was done well and handled with care, it just felt like there wasn’t much to the story. Jules, the ray of positivity she is, decided enough was enough, and she made it her personally duty to pull Grant out of his current state and restore his once vibrant personality while reconnecting with his family and friends. While I will say I loved how Jules was able to see past Grants anger and pain and really truly see him for who is now. It was a beautiful coming together story and I loved seeing the growth with Grant! My main issue with this book was solely that I was bored. It honestly felt like not much was going on, the holidays weren’t nearly as prevalent as I was expecting and honestly it kind’ve felt like I was reading the same scenes over and over just a different day. I loved the message in My True Love about moving on after experiencing loss. Even though Grant has lost so much, he also has a lot to live for. Somehow, the girl he's always known his entire life and never saw as anything other than his little sister's best friend, has become so much more.
*Thank you so much Melissa Foster for sending a free BookFunnel link and audiobook to read for disability December! All opinions above are 100% my own!*
5 Star review of My True Love (The Steeles At Silver Island #2) by Melissa Foster
From start to finish I was hooked on Grant Silver and Jules Steele’s story, two survivors who have faced death and beaten it. Melissa Foster writes stories with characters who you cannot help but fall in love with. She is not afraid to show them at their most vulnerable and this is certainly the case in My True Love. This story resonated with me, it buried in deep and took hold and refused to let me go. Returning home to Silver Island, Grant is overwhelmed and feeling smothered by the community he grew up in. Grant needs to decide what he wants to do now that his military career has ended, a man who is bitter and resentful. Having survived cancer Jules knows how precious it is to wake up everyday. Like me, she is grateful for every day and appreciates it now more than ever. Can Jules show Grant that his life isn’t over, that it has changed, yes, but it isn’t over? Her warmth and happiness frustrate him but slowly and surely she brings light, happiness and love into his solitary existence My True Love is a heart warming, beautiful love story, of two damaged souls who come together and embark on a beautiful journey together. I can’t remember when I last wanted a couple to find the love that they both deserved like Grant and Jules.
My True Love by Melissa Foster is a beautiful, heartfelt read and I loved it.
I enjoyed the storyline, it's well written, emotional, and one more chapter turned into staying up late into the night as I didn't want to put it down.
Watching Grant and Jules together brought out all the feels, they made me smile, shed a tear or two and they filled my heart with joy. Jules's happy and full of life attitude brought love and sunshine into Grants life, these two are soul mates and totally belonged together.
My True Love is a beautiful addition to the Steeles at Silver Island series and I highly recommend it.
I'm not sure how I can even write how much I love these books. I really have had a hard time figuring out which is my favorite couple out of all of the books by this author. Jules and Grant are definitely at the top of my list. Jules's outlook on life was certainly infectious. I loved her message of enjoying the time you are given. I also loved how she just barged her way into Grant's heart. ( I need that door mat!)
Grant is an amputee and has been trying to figure out what comes next in his life. I appreciated so much how the subject of dealing with a major life change like losing a limb was dealt with in this book. Especially when it came to the bedroom. It was refreshing to see a bedroom scene that was realistic in that it was awkward, messy and raw. I loved being in Grant's head and seeing his insecurities about how he would navigate sex missing one of his legs.
As always, the peripheral cast of characters were full of life and humor. My favorite is Jules grandmother. I have always loved how these families interact with each other. This book was heartwarming, sigh worthy and one I highly recommend. I can't wait for Archer's story next!
This is a captivating story that will appeal to all romance lovers, I was drawn in to Grant Silver and Jules Steele’s story from the first chapter and there was no putting down until I had read the final line. Two survivors who have faced death come together in this wonderful story, Ms Foster knows how to give us characters to fall in love with, she is never afraid to show her characters strengths as well as their vulnerabilities and in My True Love we see both sides of Jules and Grant. Grant returns home to Silver Island with his military career over, he is bitter and is struggling to cope with the community he grew up in welcoming home with open arms, she feels like he doesn’t deserve the welcome they seem intent on giving him.... Jules has fought cancer and won, she is grateful for every morning she wakes up and she is determined to make the most of everyday so can this strong, determined woman show Grant that life really is worth living, that the more we put into ours lives the more we will get out of it but more importantly his life is not over . Her kindness is something Grant struggles with but she slowly chips away at the walls he has built around himself and she brings light and happiness to a man determined to live alone. My True Love touched me on so many levels, it’s a beautifully written love story about two damaged souls learning to get strength from each other and it’s a heartfelt romance that will stay with me long after this review is written. Another wonderful romance from the very talented Ms Foster.
After serving his country Grant has returned home a changed man both physically and emotionally. He is trying to adjust to what the future holds and all he wants is to be left alone but Jules is the one person who refuses to be put off by his surly attitude.
As a child Jules faced the fight of her life head on and rather than it impacting her life in a negative way it has only made her that much more determined to enjoy every experience and appreciate everyone who comes into her life. When she sees Grant struggling, she isn’t about to let him go it alone and she is determined to show him that they are so much stronger together than apart.
This is a heartwarming story about two people who have reacted to the challenges in their life very differently. Jules is exactly what Grant needs in his life as she shows him that life is for the living and that every day that they have together is a gift.
I just want to start by saying that it's cruel to make me wait for Archer's book until practically the end of the year. We were teased a lot about him and Indy and I was really hoping to have their story on my hands sooner rather than later. Now I can continue saying what I was normally going to say before amazon ruined my day by showing me Archer's book.
My True Love is the second book in The Steeles at Silver Island series by Melissa Foster. It's a stand-alone book but as in every other MF book, you will see many characters that either already have a book or they will get one someday in the future. The first book in the series is very good, so I would recommend reading it first and then start this one. Both books are great and there is a roller coaster of emotions.
Can I just say that I loved this book? Honestly, this review could be just me saying how great it was and how much I loved it over and over. The last MF book I read was a disappointment for me due to one of my pet peeves and this one has a virgin heroine, so I was worried about what was going to happen next in the beginning. As it turns out though, of all the virgin heroines I have read about lately Jules seemed to be the only one who had a solid reason for it. It helped that Grant wasn't a man-ho as well.
I had to actually look up Jules name not because I had forgotten about it like I usually do, but because I kept calling her Pixie in my mind. Grant's nickname for her suited her very well and their story is like a fairytale so I kept calling her Pixie in my mind too. Grant is a very grumpy man and Jules is a ray of sunshine, so it was very heartwarming seeing them together. After losing his leg, Grant went to a very dark place and Jules started bringing him out and giving him the strength to be on his own. She didn't put too much pressure on him, just enough to force him to start being the person he was before which was the best thing to do. Our hero might not have treated her well in the beginning, but he made up for it later and that for me was acceptable.
There is drama in the book, but it doesn't have to do with Jules and Grant's relationship which was something I was dreading a little. Honestly, I found both Grant and Jules to be two of MF's best-written characters. They were complex and had their issues, but they worked them out and we got to see their internal struggle and relate to them.
While I was reading the book, I laughed, might have shed a tear or two (especially when it came to Grant's father), got excited, and felt many more things. It was a true roller coaster of emotions. I loved the book and I believe that so will you.
I love the grumpy hero/sunshiny heroine trope and this was no exception. Melissa did an amazing job bringing Grant & Jules together in the right time. I enjoyed my time back on Silver Island and revisiting the wonderful families that live here. Grant is super grumpy after dealing with a major injury and having to leave the job he loved so much. Jules is one who after beating cancer as a young child looks for the best in everyone and in every situation. Every time I read a Melissa Foster book I think I'm prepared for all the emotions I'll feel and every time I'm not. If I could have given the book more than 5 stars I would have. I was hooked from the beginning and read it in one sitting.
4.5 stars My True Love is the second book in Foster’s Steele’s of Silver Island series. Judging by the number of Steeles and Silvers and their friends we’re introduced to early in this series I suspect we’ll be returning to Silver Island for years to come. The author gives some fairly obvious clues in this story as to who some of the future couples will be. This book can easily be read as a standalone but like all of Foster’s book in her Love in Bloom universe this one contains a healthy does of characters introduced in earlier books. If you can’t remember all of them, don’t feel bad. With over 100 books in her Love in Bloom series, neither can I. Truthfully it took me quite awhile in this book just to keep straight who was a Silver and who was a Steele. Grant Silver is the oldest Silver sibling. He’s a 34-year-old former military special ops and government contractor for defense company Darkbird performing highly classified missions around the world. Former because on his last mission Grant lost part of one leg and hearing in one ear. Now he’s back on Silver Island licking his wounds trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life now that the career he’d always envisioned he’d be following until he was too old or dead to continue has been taken from him. Grant is a planner by nature and his life plan has just gone poof! He’s pretty miserable and grumpy. Because he perceives everyone on Silver Island is looking at him with pity in their eyes he pretty much stays to himself when he’s not working with childhood friend Brant Remington refitting boats. Because he’s had an strained relationship with his father and his overall bad mood he even avoids his family. Silver Island may have been named for Grant’s ancestors and his family may be the richest on the island but the title of Island Princess goes to Jules Steele, youngest of the Steele family and beloved by everyone on the island for her bubbly personality and tireless efforts to make everyone a little happier and their lives a little easier. Jules is a childhood cancer survivor who believes every day should be treasured. At 25 years old Jules is a unicorn, a creature that would be rare if it existed in real life and is even more rare as a contemporary romance heroine. She’s both a virgin and a young woman who doesn’t litter her conversations with F-bombs like a drunken trucker. Jule’s BFF is Bellamy Silver, the youngest of the Silver siblings. Jules has a secret. She’s been crushing on her BFF Bellamy’s (or Belly as she calls her) oldest brother Grant for years. Now that he’s back on the island she’s determined to turn his frown upside down and since their eight year age difference should no longer be an issue, maybe lose her V-card in the process. There’s been an undeniable sexual attraction between Jules and Grant for years now. But with Grant’s anger issues and his lack of direction in his life as to what his future holds and where it will take him and also being best friends with all of Jule’s older brothers, he has avoided allowing his attraction to her to turn into action. He realizes Jules is not a casual sex kind of girl and that her roots in the island run deep. Jules is determined to help Grant find his happy place again with or without her being a part of his life. Grant of course resists until he can’t. Quite honestly since their coupledom happens only a third of the way through the book and I’m certain Jules is about to lose her V-card, I wonder to myself what Foster is going to do to keep the story going for another 00 plus pages? And even though I know this is a fictional story, that Jules and Grant are fictional characters and they are guaranteed to have a happily ever after by the end of their story, I worry that the rest of this story is going to involve Jules having a reoccurrence of the cancer that she lost a kidney to over twenty years ago. She wouldn’t be the first Foster heroine to have to fight cancer. I’m not going to give away the rest of this story but I will say that once Jules discovers the joys of sex she takes to it like a fish to water. I really liked all the characters in this story. I enjoyed the pacing of the romance between Grant and Jules. The conflict between Grant and his father made an interesting secondary story. As is Melissa’s writing style there’s plenty of just this side of saccharine romantic dialogue to go with the steamy sex along with the prerequisite angst. This is a very good story. I can’t give it 5 stars because I reserve those for books that truly move me and don’t have plots that include things that would never happen in real life. But I have no problem giving it 4.5 stars.
I can tell you this I was so excited.....EXCITED!!! when I finally got my copy of this book. I was excited to see what two people both damaged in different ways and both came out with a different outlook on life and those around them. I loved...LOVED spending time on Silver Island again.
Now as I was saying in the beginning.... I am not sure where to start with what had me turning each page after page. Grant Silver and Jules Steele were just so good together. They were a match that Grant could not see happening. Jules ever the optimist was all in from go. I want to tell you everything, but I also want you to read it all for yourself. I will tell you this tho it was not easy. It is not all sunshine, roses, and happy faces. This one was work. Grant and Jules had to work for their forever. And that for me was the best part.
I believe that MF has done it again and again. She brings fresh new characters with a spin on their lives, but I could feel at the heart its family, friends, love, and so much more. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to making a new world open up to so many of us. Giving us hope and dreams.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Page-turner Easy-to-read Romantic Entertaining Realistic Wonderful characters
Keep tissues handy. Grant and Jules take heartache to new heights with their inspiring story. Foster paints an emotional portrait that is not always pretty, but makes quite the impression on a heart. My True Love is a tale of life lessons, hard knocks and uncertain hope that will give the mind something to think about while taking aim at the heart.
My True Love is my first read from author Melissa Foster and the second book in the Steeles and Silver Island series.
What I loved: Complicated hero is my jam, and Grant Silver is all sorts of complicated. Veteran, back in his hometown after a career-ending injury and no idea what to do next with his life. Grant is everything I love in a hero, broody, alpha, maybe needs a little saving himself.
I very much like the heroine, Jules, but she is very in your face, blinding sunshine. When you read the story, you will understand what has shaped her personality this way, but she is super optimistic.
It's a small-town romance which is always a favorite trope of mine, and you can't go wrong there.
What I didn't love:
In the first chapter, you get blasted with tons of information about their families, which are both HUGE. It was information overload, and I had to put the book down and come back multiple times. I'm all for giving me the backstory, but we don't need the family tree in the first six pages. I'm reading about the story between the h/H, and while secondary characters are essential, lets spread it out, please.
Overall:
I thought this story was good, but I wasn't taken over by it. Is it a good book that I think readers will love? Yes. Did it wow me? No. Do I think you should give it a try? Absolutely! And then you should tell me what you thought too!
