Turn the Tables

Rate this book
When Elena’s deceased father’s best friend shows up on her doorstep, she’s given an opportunity of a lifetime: a full scholarship for the next three years to Highbury Academy, the top preparatory high school in the nation. What she’s not prepared for is the disdain the rich kids of Highbury Academy have for a poor kid from the wrong side of town. She’s also not prepared to deal with the Elites. The Elites rule the school, they own the social hierarchy, and they make it clear that there is no place for someone like Elena.
When the Elites use their secret club to humiliate her, will she break and run home, or will she turn the tables on the Elites and give them a taste of their own medicine?

I was confused between five stars or four stars then I went with 4.5 stars. This book really touched my heart and I think it had almost everything that makes a book perfect. I personally am not a very big fan of books with open ending and thank god this book was not one of them, it had a perfect epilogue which give me a lot of satisfaction because I always want to know how the characters end up and all I can say is that the epilogue was perfect
The book is divided into three books or rather we can say there are 3 books inside one book that is:-
1.Falling
2.Redemption
3.Rising
This book revolves around a girl Elena whose biological father was never in the picture and she was brought up by her mother and her stepfather. One day her life totally changes when a friend of her late biological father comes with the news that if she accept to take education at a high profile private school he would provide for the medication of her mother who was going through some mental issues and for the sake of her mother she agrees to go to that school. Now when she goes to that school people make fun of her, they bully her because she is there for free and is poor while the others belong to rich high profile families
This book deals with a very important subject of bullying and it had been portrayed very well by the author ,what a bully goes through, their mental agony and it has been portrayed so well in the first part of the book that is falling .
At the end of the first part it was so heartbreaking to see what Elena was going through and I especially hated Lucas at that point for what he did I mean how could he? I was so disappointed in him first of all I never expected the change of event and on the top of that Lucas being a part of it ,I felt so bad for Elena.
But then came the second part of the book redemption which introduces a new character Jasper and I thought since Lucas is now in kind of enemy zone there would be something between Jasper and Elena but then its explained why things happened the way they did, why Lucas did what he did obviously what he did was not acceptable but he did redeem himself and we also see a love triangle between Jasper Elena and Lucas *and she chooses Lucas which made me so happy because since the first part I thought they had something going on between them*. Elena has a special inclination towards music and according to everybody she plays piano like a goddess and she has a YouTube channel where she uploads songs but she wears a mask while she record those videos so her identity is hidden and this reminds me of the movie the secret superstar where the main character because of her family problems didn't reveal her face but she played guitarand her situation was different but it just reminded me of that. In the second part we see a lot of changes in Elena she is more stronger ,she doesn't stays quiet when someone behave badly with her ,she ship fights back and she has Jasper by her side who is like her avenging angel.
Then the third part of the book is actually where we get answers to all our questions I was more calm while reading this part than the other two parts.
The book shows the conflict which goes on in the mind of Elena where on one side she wants to change the world, do justice but on the other side she doesn't want to lose herself or get lost in it and can we take a minute to appreciate the character of Katrina she is such a good friend and soul, she's so genuine human she goes against her own brother every single time when he's wrong to do what is right and she is always there for Alina and one of those persons whom Elena can trust blindly.
I was a little upset while reading the third part because after Elena makes her decision the other person whom she doesn't chooses person *which is Jasper* kind of goes in the shadow. Elena also proves that she is wiser than her father and she gets the award for it is as well. One thing that was a cliché was that all the boys all fell for Elena, Charles ,Lucas , Jasper, mason ,brook.
When Jasper leaves at the end he does something which is so so so shocking I just couldn't believe *5 of the students who were bullies and made Elena life difficult were found dead and it was stated that it was in act of suicide but all the needles are pointed towards Jasper and oh my god he could go to any height to protect Elena and which is kind of nice but crazy*. *And I also understood why Jasper laid down the condition to meet Elena twice a year in return of the 1 million he paid for her entry into the club because at some point of time he realises even before Elena realised that she was in love with Lucas but he just wanted to still keep in touch so he laid that condition and that was so sweet*.

And as I have said above the epilogue was so so perfect it doesn't state exactly how many years later it is but It tells what happens to all the characters.
After reading this book I was so happy kind of my heart was filled with emotions and it was definitely worth reading xD

THIS BOOK IS A TOTAL BOMB.
It's been so long since I read a book that transported me into the actual setting of the book. I may have my adjustments with the writing style of Byrne. But it didn't stop me from swimming in this literary pool.

"You say you want a better world and you want to be kind. It starts with you. You make a stand: in person, online. It’s not just about saying no; it’s about changing your perspective. If you’ve ever made fun of someone because they believed differently or acted differently, that’s a form of bullying. I’m not naïve. We will never achieve a perfect state. It isn’t within human nature to be perfect. We must embrace that we won’t always make the right call. We have to accept mistakes.”
-- Elena Kano/Spark

I love Elena's character! She is relatable in some ways people will quite understand. She transitioned from being a fragile, numb girl into someone that plays game of life with just her thumb. Plus, she's extra special, extra talented and extra genius. Extra in everything that I love her! She also makes me feel more sad about bullying and self-destruction. Byrne cooked her character well in this book. Thank you very much.

But I can't rate this book into 5 stars, because for one— im a sucker for destructive books myself that the book must makes me cry so bad I just wanna hug the character for that certain hurting that also hurts me.

The book was beautiful, sad, and unexpected! Yes, I didn't saw that plot twist coming. What a great read indeed.

This is the second book I have read from this author and I read this immediately after finishing “The Betrayal”. Once again, the author has produced a great story that is an emotional ride for the reader. The characters are strong and determined. The main female lead goes through a lot as she isn’t accepted into the world she is thrust into. A great read.

This is the story of Elena as she agrees to go to an elite prep school to save her mom. She goes through many trials and tribulations but will come out stronger. I enjoyed following her journey and she does have some heartbreaking moments but I loved her triumphant ones. This is one I’m glad I read.
