Everyone Wants the Goddess. Some Want Her Dead. Ruyo, former merchant, is now the reluctant Goddess of Water. In dire need of training, she needs to start making deals with the city of Averell and nearby villages before anyone tries to destroy her barely-working shrine. But there's a monster on the loose, and covetous eyes on the power she's gaining. Can she win friends, stay alive, and get some decent furniture? "Wavebound Mentors" is the second part of a high fantasy adventure about freedom, obligation, and being in over your head.
But water can eventually wear away anything. I’m a fan of Kris Schnee and buy everything he writes, but this new series (second book here; buy the other first!) is particularly approachable. It’s such a unique perspective: an ordinary reasonably successful woman being swept up into becoming a god, growing her Divine Powers with the shrewdness of the traveling merchant she so recently was. Despite the wonky randomly generated plot system he apparently uses whole story is quite well scripted.
