The Brazos Theological Commentary on the Bible encourages readers to explore how the vital roots of the ancient Christian tradition inform and shape faithfulness today. In this volume, prominent Reformed theologian Michael Allen offers a theological reading of Ephesians. As with other series volumes, this commentary is designed to serve the church, providing a rich resource for preachers, teachers, students, and study groups.
R. Michael Allen (PhD, Wheaton College) is Kennedy Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and is the author of several books.
Didn't read quite all of this but read most. It's a solid theological commentary on Ephesians from one of the premier Reformed (definitely his preferred moniker, over 'Calvinist') dogmatic theologians writing today. He's a self-avowed Reformed catholic, so he makes use of theologians from many different branches of our common faith.
The late John Webster had been assigned this volume, but Allen took up the task after Webster's untimely death. In my judgment, Allen did an admirable job--though he doesn't quite have Webster's gift for the felicitous phrase.
A short commentary which claims to be theological in nature. It’s theological distinctive is found in brief comments, many of which are helpful, offered throughout to explain how the text influences interpretation of biblical doctrine.
This commentary is rich and theologically dense. Not an easy read but truly a feast to read. Have a dictionary close by for some of the author's vocabulary. It is indeed a theological commentary. Used it for teaching on Paul's epistle.
