Isla Emerged #2

Currents Converged

Rate this book
Peril. War. Power.

Isla has been queen for five years, but time has not made ruling any easier. It also hasn’t erased the guilt she feels over her part in the pain her people suffered. But as queen, she has more important things to worry about than her feelings and some gruesome flashbacks. She must atone for her sins and help the merfolk of the Southern Pacific heal from the wounds her mistakes left behind.

Unfortunately, achieving that will be harder than she ever imagined. Theo, a prince from a faraway kingdom, arrives with a harrowing warning that a new tyrant has emerged and old enemies have risen from the grave—and they’re working together to terrorize the mer world.

Now, Isla must gather her friends, rally her army, and battle her own demons in order to protect her people and put an end to her enemies before it’s too late.

War is coming. The survival of the seas rests on Isla’s shoulders.

And victory is the only option she has.

Currents Converged is the final book in the Isla Emerged Trilogy.

Years after the hunters and The Order have been extinguished, Isla still suffers from nightmares and moments of anxiety. Awake or asleep...they follow her. Little does she know that danger is still alive and the darkest type of evil is coming for her and her kingdom...Can she push through her fear to save her people? Or will she fail and become the failure she believes she is?

OK!! As much as I LOVED this I'm sad it's done because it also means this series is done. This is one of my new all-time favorites! It has EVERYTHING...a spoiled princess who has to learn a hard lesson BUT learn she does and ends up becoming an amazing, strong, courageous, loyal and faithful Queen.

Along the way she suffers from guilt, PTSD, loneliness, heartache and pain. She overcomes all of it and learns to forgive herself, to allow others to help her with the healing, finds love and realizes she will be OK.

Did I mention there is magic and merpeople?! Sarcastic humor that just got me LOL. Kaya is my absolute favorite character (outside of Isla of course). I LOVE the strong female presence throughout this series. SIGH ❤️❤️❤️ I will definitely be re-reading this series again.

I sincerely appreciate the publisher for providing me a copy of this gem. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.

Read the Trigger Warning

***The author has added a trigger warning, please read it before deciding if you're ready to read the book.***
I adored the other two books in the series and was gleeful to get Currents Converged. Unfortunately the book made me uncomfortable to read and I dreaded picking it up (which is a compliment to how well the author draws readers in and to how well she deals with difficult, though important, subject matters). Not because there was anything wrong with the story or writing but because I read as an escape but the heavy concentration on PTSD and promise of more deaths to come was tough to handle as we (in the US) come out of an anxiety ridden deadly pandemic. If you're not in the best headspace, move CC further down your TBR but if you are emotionally calm, dive in today!

What a beautiful ending to a great series! There’s so much I loved about this book. I loved how the author took notice of readers reviews, as this book felt like it had way more details and information about the world. Also, I loved watching the characters grow and work through their traumas and heal from them. I feel like that was such an important part of the story, and the series could not conclude without it. I also really enjoyed the romance and seeing new relationships form and grow. The book explored so many of my personal favorite tropes which made it that more exciting! Isla’s story has been such an enjoyable one from start to finish. I’ve loved seeing her grow for a naive princess to a strong queen. Though I’m sad to see her and her squads story come to an end, I am very satisfied with how it ended!

A wonderful conclusion to a wonderful story! I absolutely love Isla’s character development through this series. She grows so much in this story, and as a reader I felt I was going through the emotions with her from start to finish. The author did an amazing job at making the emotions feel authentic. Her side characters are absolutely amazing as well. Overall I highly recommend this series!

I really enjoyed this last instalment of this series.
The best of the lot.
Our fmc is dealing with her mental health issues along side her best friend.

I loved the relationships she has between friends as well as the new love interest.

Narration was decent just like the other instalments. Gifted audio in exchange for an honest review

In Currents Converged, Deidre Sequiera employs the full run of emotions to bring the trilogy to an exciting and profound conclusion. I honestly could not put this book down! I love how she brings us alongside Isla to experience her insecurities and how she grows through them. The relationships feel so real, I often found myself laughing out loud at the banter between characters, or nearly crying with them. She’s made me a fan of mermaids again.

With this series complete, I cannot WAIT to see what Ms. Sequiera comes up with next!

I received an ARC in exchange for this review.

*trigger warning: the MC suffers from PSTD among other things so if you are not in the right headspace for this then pass until you are!*

Loved this book! Sad it’s the last book in series but merpeople and adventure, emotional roller coaster of a story and so much passion. One of the best mermaid books I’ve read in a long time!

Sequeira captures the constantly evolving emotional states that consume the conscious and subconscious thoughts in this action-packed finale to Isla Emerged.
From her depth of survivors guilt to overcoming the internal struggles to rise above and lead her kingdom once and for all, Isla is the mermaid queen we need in a growing pro-feminine society. Sequeira embraces her ethnic roots and beautifully bridges the gap between fantasy and POC.
I’m looking forward to more from Sequeira and what mysticism she will bring in future literary works.

Wow - the amount of growth that Isla has in this book is amazing. Both she and Maryn are dealing with PTSD from their encounters with The Order 5 years ago.

One thing that DS does so well in this book is showing how often those triggers happen and how much work and time it takes to lessen the effects.

This story has such a different feeling than the first in that Isla is also grappling with the guilt that she perceives her immature actions caused. There is plenty of action, fighting, and gore when the big battle happens along with phenomenal displays of power.

Overall, I enjoyed Isla Emerged more simply because of the twists that DS threw at us - I'm not normally surprised by books, but she threw things in that I so didn't see coming.

This had so much healing as a focus that it felt like the driving force of the story - Isla needing to make up for her past actions vs just being queen and protecting her people. I think the events could have happened with her struggling with her PTSD along the way, but the shift in focus took a little bit away from the story for me. I did still feel that some of the dialogue was more dramatic than it needed to be.

I enjoyed having more points-of-view in this book - especially having Theo's observations. DS built a fascinating world for this series with really interesting details making it feel believable and I'm happy that I found this series!

Fantastic Finale!!

This book picks up pretty quickly were it left off. Isla is getting stronger with her powers but dealing with PTSD and guilt from the attack on her kingdom from the hunters. She keeps being told that they are safe now but then a merman from the Mediterranean shows up with news of a terrible attach by another group of hunters... no longer safe they go on the offensive. This book has a lot of action and drama and a side of clean romance. I really enjoyed the whole series and this one wrapped it all up beautifully without being too predictable.

Parents- PG13 good for middle grade readers to adults- the author has a trigger warning for those with PTSD in this book due to the MC's flashbacks and trauma.
Language- not a lot, much less then Harry Potter and no f-bombs
Violence- normal to genre and fantasy batlles, violent murders but nothing too graphic
Sexual Content- it's really pretty clean other then a few alluded to discussions.

The narrator did a fantastic job with the differentiation and acting skills. I did like it better at 1.2x speed but I do tend to listen to many books a bit faster.

What an incredible conclusion to the Isla Emerged series! Deidre Sequeira delivered everything I hoped for in a finale, high stakes, emotional depth, and a queen who has truly grown into her role. Isla’s struggles with guilt and responsibility felt so real, and watching her rise above them to protect her people was powerful and inspiring.

The worldbuilding was as vivid as ever, and the return of old enemies (plus the introduction of Theo and his warning) kept me hooked from beginning to end. The action scenes were gripping, but what really stood out was the heart, friendship, loyalty, and healing are woven throughout the story.

I listened to the audiobook, and Talon David’s narration was absolutely fantastic. She brought the characters to life and made the tension and emotions even more impactful.

Overall, this was the perfect ending to a series I’ve loved from start to finish. If you’ve followed Isla’s journey, you won’t be disappointed.

Isla's story comes to a satisfying conclusion. I recommend reading at least the first book before this one so the trauma Isla's dealing with is fully understood.

The story is told from multiple POVs, and has action, fight scenes, drama, humor, plus a slow burn frenemies to lovers romance. Isla is flawed but strong as she leads her people, protecting them, and leading the army against new and old enemies. I liked seeing all the different ways she used her mermaid magic on the army's journey across the seas.

Talon David has narrated all three stories. She did a great job with the narrative and channeling Isla.

Wow! I'm so glad I stuck with the series, the conclusion to this story was so good, I really enjoyed it. I love how all the characters had their own little story and the traumas they worked through to come out in a good place in the end. I also loved how Isla became stronger and while I wasn't a fan in the beginning of her story, I came to like her at the end when she becomes such a badass, especially with who she ended up with, Theo was a gem. Well done!
