Ruth: Becoming a Girl of Loyalty -- True Girl Bible Study

Rate this book
When her friend was in need, Ruth remained loyal. Ruth was a young woman who lived at a time when people seemed to only care about themselves—not God. And certainly not each other. So imagine how remarkable it was when Ruth gave up everything—her comfort, home, and even hope for a future—to travel to a foreign land to help her friend in need. Though Ruth would have nothing, she went anyway! And as you'll see, the story turns out pretty amazing. In Becoming a Girl of Loyalty , a six-week study, you'll enter Ruth's story and learn how you can also become loyal, loving, and godly. True Girl Bible Studies feature important women from the Bible so that from their examples, we can learn what it looks like to be a True Girl. Each study is designed to help moms lead their daughters deeply into the Word of God so that they can develop a steady love for Scripture. Together, moms and daughters can discover what it means to be a True Girl after God's own heart.

Dannah Gresh, a mother/daughter communication coach, has sold well over three quarters of a million copies of her books—including And the Bride Wore White and 2008's best-selling CBA youth book, Lies Young Women Believe (coauthored with Nancy Leigh DeMoss)—making her one of the most successful Christian authors targeting teens and preteens. With the belief that today's culture has been seeking to rob little girls of their innocence, Dannah has been fighting on the front lines to protect them. Her fun line of Secret Keeper Girl mom/preteen daughter connecting resources and live events that tour the country provide moms with just the right tools to fight back. She has long been at the forefront of the movement to encourage both tweens and teens to pursue purity and is often called upon to defend the conservative position of abstinence in national news media like USA Today, Time, Chicago Tribune, and Women's Wear Daily. She is also a frequent contributor to FamilyLife Today, Midday Connection, and Focus on the Family. Dannah lives in State College, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Bob, and their children, Robby, Lexi, and Autumn, whom the family adopted from China in 2007. She and her husband founded Grace Prep, a new model in Christian high school education, which Bob administrates. She is shamelessly in love with her labradoodle, Stormie. (DannahGresh.com)

As I young girl, I loved learning about Ruth’s story in the Bible. I wanted to be as kind, courageous, and loyal as she was. In Ruth: Becoming a Girl of Loyalty, young readers are inspired to do just that, by studying Ruth’s life in an entertaining and interactive way.

I’m a life-long journal-er and a lover of fill-in-the-blank type books, so this book is right up my alley. (Even though I’m way older than the target age, I still enjoyed it immensely.)

The book doesn’t only contain written text walking the reader through Ruth’s shoes and experiences, but also includes fun puzzles, explanations, helpful Scripture verses, quotes, illustrations, and fill-in-the-blank sections. I love the lined blank segments for notetaking or documenting things learned and observed. I also enjoyed the following repetitive stimuli:

Zoom out (getting the big picture)
Zoom in (understanding the details)
Zero in (finding out what it really means)
Zip it (learning what God wants you to do with it)

The underlying message of this softcover study book about Ruth is what it means to be loyal. It’s a wonderful Bible study for elementary school aged girls.

Loyalty is sometimes hard to understand and is often hard to practice. When we get into difficult situations, we tend to want to look out for ourselves or do what’s best for us instead of sticking by someone going through a hard time. We sometimes let our fears and worries get the best of us when it comes to following through. It seems to be the way of the world that tween and teen girls are growing up in. This makes many of these girls ask the question: Does God want me to be loyal, even when it’s hard?

In her new True Girl Bible Study, Ruth: Becoming a Girl of Loyalty, Dannah Gresh breaks down and walks through the story of Ruth to help tween girls learn how to understand and practice biblical loyalty in our world today. With the clever use of graphics, fill-in-the-blanks, space for underlining Scriptures, puzzles, and examples relevant to them, girls will be engaged as the story of Ruth is presented to them in style and format that is palatable for their age. They are given tools to help them understand what the Scriptures say so they can figure out how to apply it to their lives. Through it all, girls will be reminded that when as they learn what it means to be loyal, God will always be loyal to us because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. If you have a daughter age 7-12, this is the perfect study for her.

Ruth becoming a girl of loyalty by Dannah Gresh is a great bible study for young girls out there because it encourages them to learn more about the scripture. I would describe the layout of the book as an activity book and a study guide all mixed into one book. I enjoy how this bible study is interactive and is not just simply text in a book. The layout of the book is also superb. I like how it has really cute imagery, fill in the blanks, space for underlining scriptures, and even puzzles. There's also many different sections throughout that allows for journaling or writing down thoughts and key concepts. The main intake of this book is for girls to learn what it's like to become and be loyal.  I received a copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.
