Nelson has never been athletic but since he became a ninja that’s changed. He wants to show off his skills at his school’s athletics carnival but his mother and Grandma are worried about anyone learning he’s a ninja kid, especially the dastardly Dr Kane, who hasn’t found whatever he’s looking for in Duck Creek yet.
On the morning of the carnival one of Grandma’s inventions accidentally switches Nelson and Grandma’s powers. Suddenly Grandma feels amazing and starts doing ninja backflips and somersaults, whereas Nelson is feeling aches and pains and craving a cup of tea! He’s certain he’ll be embarrassed in front of everyone, including Sarah, the nicest girl at school, and Charles, the bully.
Dr Kane shows up again with his helicopter (that has more tricks) and we encounter an evil chipmunk. I love Nelson’s food obsessed cousin Kenny who has a poster of a club sandwich beside his bed and dreams he’s alone at an all-you-can-eat buffet most nights. My favourite character is still Grandma, who has the biggest personality in the series and is even more fun to read about with her new ninja skills.

Anh Do is one of my favourite authors and Ninja Kid is my favourite series of his. Jeremy Ley’s brilliant illustrations once again bring the characters and humour to life. Bring on book 4!

Een sportswedstrijd, een wisseltruc, en meer!
Ik was echt zo blij toen ik op de twitter van Kluitman zag dat we een nieuw deel van Ninja Kid zouden krijgen. Ik hoopte maar dat de bibliotheek hem snel zou hebben. En dat had hij! Wat een geluk!
Ik had weer veel plezier met het lezen en ik genoot van elke pagina.
De slechterik is ook weer terug en hij heeft zijn ogen op de sportswedstrijd, want immers, volgens hem, als iemand heel sportief is… dan moet diegene toch een ninja zijn. Wat een slecht plan, maar ach die slechterik is nou ook weer niet de slimste.
Ik vond de sportwedstrijd erg leuk, al vond ik het wel heel sneu voor Nelson zowel voor dingen als na dingen. Hij had best wel iets meer mogen winnen van mij. Gelukkig heeft hij toch nog plezier in meedoen op een manier. En verder vond ik het top dat die twee meiden zo goed bezig waren maar ook vriendschappelijk leken te zijn.
Ik had wel graag gezien dat iemand iets had gedaan aan het valsspelen van een van de spelers en diens vader.
Ik snap Kenny niet. Hij vindt dat meisje dus leuk? En zij hem? En toch ontwijkt hij haar? UMMMM? Als je een meisje leuk vindt is ontwijken wel het ergste dat je kunt doen.
Ik vond alleen oma dit keer echt teleurstellend. In plaats van sorry te voelen voor haar kleinzoon wiens krachten ze had gestolen/gewisseld ging ze lekker YOLO door het leven heen en gaf geen tiet om wie of wat het zag. Terwijl ze zelf zo van de OMG niemand mag achter je identiteit komen en OMG vooral voorzichtig zijn.
Ik vond dus de wisseltruc wel geinig, maar dus ook weer een beetje vervelend. Arme Nelson.
Het einde was top en ik lag helemaal dubbel om hoe de grote slechterik veranderde in dat.
Natuurlijk waren de illustraties weer top en maakten ze het boek helemaal af.
Ik kan niet wachten op het volgende boek. Hopelijk komen we dan wat meer te weten over Nelsons vader, zien we weer wat meer van de slechterik (ik geloof ergens nog steeds niet dat het de tweelingbroer is), en hopelijk leert Nelson weer wat nieuwe truukjes want hij zal het zeker nodig hebben tegen de slechterik.

Ninja Kid
Dacă sunteți în căutarea unei serii amuzante și educative, vă recomandăm seria grafică scrisă de Ahn Do, anume Ninja kid.
Cărților sunt amuzante și din fiecare volum avem câte ceva de învățat. Ador relația care există între mamă, bunică, Nelson și Kenny, o relație foarte strânsă, plină de iubire, fără critici, o relație de suport necondiționat. Un copil atât de bine crescut, de educat, care și atunci când are șansa de a se răzbuna pe Charles (cel care este un mare bully), nu o face, din contră îl sustine, încurajează și îl salvează- un lucru foarte important de menționat.
Nelson locuiește alături de mama, bunica și verișorul său într-un depozit. Până de curând a fost un elev "tocilar", dar odată cu împlinirea vârstei de 10 ani, dobândește calități de ninja și totodată și o mare responsabilitate, aceea de a apăra orașul Duck Creek, deoarece doctorul Kane s-a întors în oraș și nu pentru a face lucruri bune.
Nelson este ajutat de verișorul și totodată și cel mai bun prieten al său- Kenny, care devine Tipul -H , dar și de invențiile bunicii Pat.
" ✍️-Îndepărtează orice îndoială din minte! m-a îndemnat bunica. Increde-te total în ideile tale...M-am străduit să-mi limpezesc mintea și să mă concentrez. " (bunica către Nelson)
✍️-Nu sar! a spus el. Mi-e frică, Ninja Kid!
-E-n regulă, i-am zis eu. Mie mi-e frică tot timpul.
-Nu se poate! Ninja kid nu se sperie niciodată.
-Ba da! am răspuns eu.Dar am învață ca poti să-ți învingi frica!" (Nelson către Charles)
Sunt 7 volume traduse in limba română până acum...mai sunt câteva de tradus din engleză...și sperăm să fie traduse și restul cărților scrise de acest autor.

Момчето нинджа Нелсън Кейн се завръща в третата книга от забавната илюстрована поредица на Ан Доу и изд. „Кръг”. Градчето Дък Крийк все още е цел на загадъчния злодей с хеликоптера и единственото препятствие за коварните му планове е последният нинджа на света. Но както винаги на Нелсън му се налага да балансира героичните си изяви с живота на обикновено хлапе и ученик. Нещата се усложняват допълнително, когато в училище се задава спортен празник. Вярно, че Нелсън никога не е бил от най-атлетичните, но все пак неотдавна се сдоби с невероятни нинджа сили, нали? Nelson swaps powers with his grandmother. She becomes Ninja Granny and Nelson becomes an inventor. Sports carnival with the Brocks cheating but nobody noticing. Then Nelson invents a changing machine and he defeats Dr Kane. The usual plot structure. The jokes fall flat in this one.

Сигурно има много книги за нинджи, но тази поредица е за най-вдъхновените хлапаци, които са научили за добрите инициативи на супергероите и биха направили всичко възможно справедливостта да възтържествува. Е, когато си научил съвсем скоро за силите си, трябва време за най-великите подвизи. Това са чудесни книги за малки читатели и несъмнено достойни за бъдещи герои. Според мен Ан Доу е напипал точната съставка за епично приключение в малки мащаби, което би събрало доста почитатели. Магията работи! Нелсън Кейн има зад себе си две книжни приключения („Момчето нинджа“ и „Момчето нинджа: Нинджата започва да лети!“) и третото се очаква с огромно нетърпение. Би трябвало да се получи, нали? „Момчето нинджа: Размяна на сили“ („Кръг“, 2021, с превод на Юлия Спиридонова – Юлка) трябва да докаже на всички, че Нелсън е достоен наследник на баща си и да зарадва всички вкъщи. Единственото неприятно нещо е, че никой друг не трябва да разбира за невероятните му сили. Особено доктор Кейн.

A sometimes insecure nerd receives special ninja powers on his tenth birthday and embarks on various adventures to save humanity. In addition to the exciting adventures, the ninja kid also learns to believe in himself and to try something even if he is sometimes afraid. For children from about 7/8 years old.

2.5 stars. Not as fun as I expected it to be but still an okay quick read.
The bulk of it was who came first and last in this and that event with no satisfying consequence or resolution to all the cheating. Even without it Charles might have been second and still ended up in the cage anyway so it felt meaningless in a series I adore for having tight writing and giving everything significance. The use of the banana tennis ball felt forced too.

Ninja Kid is great book for children from the ages of 7+
I grabbed this for my son when it was first out and recommended at QBD.
My son adored it! so I thought I would give it a quick read myself!
Its very very funny!
the language level is great for children to practice or learn new words.
Highly recommend.

This series is continuing to develop well. Loved that the grand ma got the powers and had a good time, winning admirers. Also really loved that grand ma wanted her old talents back, over staying a ninja. Fun read.

In Book 3, Grandma's invention swaps properties between two objects. She accidentally swaps her creativity with Nelson's ninja knowledge with humorous results. The Kane family continues to work together to save the day.

My 7 year old son LOVES reading these...fun stories, with lots of humor. It's nice to have a higher reading level that fits him, but there are still pictures to balance it vs bouncing straight into traditional chapter books.

More nutty fun from Ahn Do with his Ninja kid books.
They are ridiculous and fun, with not a lot of text for the amount of pages, but they are still worth the price of admission so to speak.

My 7yo son and I are really enjoying these! Our library didn't have #3 or #4, but we got them from a book order. He read it first, and then I read it to him. Switcheroo! :-)

Nelson had his powers switched with his grandma, so he could make inventions and she could do ninja stuff. Nelson made a switcheroo machine to switch them back to normal.
