Alexis Sands is an own voices author, single-mom, drinker of too much coffee, obsessive cleaner, expert at starting over, and a master at building walls. Her debut novel, much like the author herself, doesn’t conform to traditional rules. Slated doesn’t fit into a cookie-cutter mold of the new adult or erotic romance genres.
As a mental health awareness advocate, she's passionate about striving for more authentic representations of characters in fiction that suffer from a mental illness.
Slated is her debut novel and Book One in the Blurred Borders Series. The character-driven series portrays the transformation of a divisive protagonist struggling with BPD on her journey to find the one!
I was incredibly eager to read this after finishing the first book, SLATED. I found this one a bit stronger and easier to follow. Though the first half felt slow, the second half is much faster paced and pretty much pure sex! The author does a great job of conveying the frantic feel of Sloane and Ryan's relationship, both in the bedroom and out.
Sloane's Borderline Personality Disorder is addressed a bit more in this novel than the last. I appreciated how she was honest with people in her life about it and they want to support her. This is my main "problem" with the books, that we aren't given explanation of the disorder. I don't have much knowledge of this diagnosis, and while I could understand that the character's behavior was driven by her diagnosis at times, I didn't understand exactly how and I think I would have more compassion for her if I'd understood better. With that being said, I think anyone who has dealt with this diagnosis or similar symptoms will connect with Sloane.
I recommend these books for readers of erotica who want a bit of suspense and characters they can connect with.
Sloane fans won't be disappointed with this one!!! The story takes off right where it left in the series but readers can easily start with this book if they choose. SPLIT (Blurred Borders Series Book 2) has got everything from passion, romance, love, lust, betrayal, and friendship. It is a fantastic read that I highly recommend.
