Lieutenant Cord of the Texas Rangers rides the plains of Texas with his seven man squad chasing bandits, rustlers, and desperadoes.
Before starting out, Cord must build his crackerjack team. The first to be recruited is Zeke, who joined the Rangers after his family was killed by a band of marauding Indians. The second man in their team is Miles, who was drugged, beaten, and robbed while drinking in a saloon. The third man is Logan. Logan was the product of a wealthy plantation owner and a saloon girl. His mother died at birth and he was abandoned by his father, forced to live as a slave on his father's plantation. Growing up, not knowing the truth, his inebriated father finally told him the truth when he was sixteen. It wasn't long after that when he made a break from the plantation on a stolen horse and rode straight into the Rangers. Next came Silas who, like Zeke, lost his family to an Indian attack. Josh comes to the Rangers after being kicked out of an Indian camp where he had lived for a couple of years. Pete left home at the ripe old age of fourteen and accidentally became a buffalo hunter, but after a couple of years, decided to rejoin civilization and was recruited by Cord. And then there's Win. Winston Howard, wealthy Eastern lawyer who is the victim of a train robbery. He is beaten, pistol whipped, shot in the head, dragged behind a horse and left on the prairie for dead. The last member is Scott who, with his brother, were meat hunters. When his brother was killed by Indians, he joined the Rangers.
Although each of these men have come from different backgrounds and circumstances, they all joined the Rangers for one reason—to bring law and order to a lawless land and to stop rustling on the plains of Texas. They each joined as a single entity, but Lieutenant Cord brought them together as partners.
Mr. Mackessy certainly went above and beyond when he penned this compassionately entertaining revelation of the Texas Rangers. It is a non-stop variable of exciting old American western folklore adventures!
Most definitely another five star masterpiece by one of the more refreshing western folklore Authors, who pulls no punches when he pushes Lt. Cord, and his Rangers, throughout this compelling story of unending excitement and strategic planning! They go above and beyond in their attempts to bring justice to those responsible for their misdeeds! Outstanding storylines throughout this compelling western masterpiece and the Author's successful selection of characters were unsurpassed in their commanding assignments from beginning to end! Too, the entire story is filled with ongoing hardships that the Rangers have to overcome in their efforts to bring peace and tranquility to their beloved Texas! Most definitely recommend this compassionately motivated story to all readers, but especially to all of you western addicted readers as you will find yourselves riding along with these Rangers as they continuously attempt to bring justice to their beloved State of Texas. Even you non-western readers will find yourselves completely engrossed within the first few lines of this compassionately motivated story of unending excitement!!!😃
The way this story is written is confusing as all get out. It is written in third person and then in first person jumping from one to another. If the characters would have been introduced first and then on wards going to the story of Lieutenant Cord it would have been easier to read. Also proofreading proof reading needs to be done. In one sentence the guy is using ,mules to haul his wagon and in the next sentence or two he has oxen. So which is it? Very confusing.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading Western books based on historical facts. From what I have read, for the most part, the men who rode in the Texas Rangers were rough and ready men who did what was required to take their part of the wild west.
First read of the Texas rangers and was really impressed just couldn’t put the book down now that I’ve finished got to see whether there is more of the same .
I really enjoyed this book. It confused me at first, but then it all came together, the individual stories of the seven Texas Rangers. They came from different walks of life to band into a deadly band of lawmen fighting fire with fire.Thank you Mike.
This is a great story about justice in Texas before and after the Civil War. The back stories of the rangers make the book better. I'm looking forward to the next Lt Cord adventure.
This is like 5 or 6 great books in one. Brains and fun work. Rough justice. Texas values, ethics and common sense in really exciting stories. Have bought his next two books.
This is a good start to a good series of stories. All the people are believable and are portrayed as such. Rough and tough , gritty, and at times bloody, a good read.
The Partners: A Tale of the Texas Rangers: A Western Adventure From "Mountain Man"
This book was truly a book about the early Texaas Rangers a great look at what they lived through to make Texas a safer place to live. The book gives the story of each of the eight men who made up Lt. Cord's partners, then some of the stories of how they fought not only Comanches, Comancheros, but also rustlers, com men and crooked gamblers. It was a read that I couldn't put down. This is a real old time western. BRAVO 👏👏BRAVO 👏
Men from different life styles all eventually become Texas Rangers, fighting men for justice and fairness for all, if possible. Lots of historical events and what happened to the Texas Rangers during the "War Of Disagreements." Seven men who make up a squad of Rangers who are loyal to the concepts of bringing peace and law to Texas. All who read this adventure will totally enjoy the adventures and how these men think and the breed they live by. A great adventurous Texas western, that you will thoroughly enjoy..Adios amigos
An MM Western Action Adventure Novel of the Texas Rangers
Mm. has penned a western about the Texas Rangers in numerous short stories. The short stories begin with the future Ranger as they turn from boy to man. They know how to use a rifle and sidearms. They are hired by the Texas Governor to stop any and all criminal behavior in the Texas territory. This is an excellent collection of short stories for the genre.....DEHS
Despite some unintentionally uproarious word choices, multitudes of missing and misplaced commas, and sentences that say things that are impossible (really bad grammar), I liked the characters, the plots and the not-unbelievable progression of the stories. Given time and attention to improved grammar Mr. Mackessy could become a very fine author.
This book is well written and gives an incite into the life of a ranger. The individual stories amalgamated to give the book a life of its own. A compelling read that is informative and shows a grasp of western life in law enforcement. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys westerns.
