When the US Air Force loses contact with an experimental drone carrying a classified weapon system over a remote section of the Ouachita Mountain Range of eastern Oklahoma, a team of elite Pararescue personnel are sent in to recover the asset. After the entire team and the helicopter sent to extract them vanish without a trace, it is discovered that a highly-aggressive, hairy, bipedal hominid is responsible for the attack. Code Wild Hunt is called in to handle the paranormal threat. The Wild Hunt is a covert group of Special Forces operatives that are recruited from all branches of the US military for highly specialized and classified missions pertaining to paranormal threats to humanity. With the increasing frequency of attacks, the Wild Hunt is split across four zones of the United States, with four teams operating in each zone. Teams are named after Hunting Deities with each zone representing a different pantheon. Due to the volatile nature of the missions and potential for panic in the general populace, the Special Operations Group known as the Wild Hunt does not formally exist in any government or military records. Dispatching Team Odin, they soon discover that it wasn’t just one creature. They find themselves caught in the middle of a conflict between two clans of Bigfoot-like creatures embroiled in a territorial dispute. Creatures that they quickly learn are far more intelligent than originally anticipated. To make matters worse, they find themselves trapped by one of the worst snowstorms on record. Can Team Odin locate any survivors of the original Pararescue team, as well as secure the missing drone? Or will they, too, fall prey to the same creatures?

Was not sure what to think when I first started reading this book. It is the first by this author that I have read. And I’m hooked! Will definitely be reading the rest of his books. There a few errors such as using “cage” instead of “cave” and other errors like that. Would probably be good to have beta readers to catch these errors as a computer won’t catch them.
Wow!! I was blown away, no pun intended, by this military versus sasquatch battle. From the first page, I was drawn into the story by great characters and a great plot. Someone else commented that this is indeed the second book in the series and they went back to read the first book because this book is so great. I agree and I want to read more of this series. This is a series that I just don't want to end.
This is a good book. You shouldy read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. The book is a good read. i enjoyed it alot.. Download or buy it today. why not?
A tale as old as time: Covert Paranormal Military Unit vs. Sasquatches. As an anti-authoritarian kinda guy, naturally I found myself siding with Team Bigfoot. A good chunk of the book felt like the author showing off his knowledge and understanding of military terms and technology rather than actually trying to write compelling characters and an interesting narrative. He had a bunch of descriptions of equipment and gear, but not as much for the supernatural creatures the team had to fight. Those hairy bastards sure love chucking trees at people though. Get a new weapon, assholes! Anyways, this is a relatively breezy read, but not quite my style.
D.A. knows how to do action, adventure/military operations. The wild hunt is a whole new take on homeland security. Clark gets his baptism by fire in this book, former delta operator who had previous knowledge of the cryptid beasts is brought on board team Odin as executive officer. What I love about D.A.'s writing is there is no boring Jibber Jabber and exhaustive character background. He goes from garrison straight to a call out with action almost immediately and throughout the book. The cryptids are giant Bigfoot-like creatures who are hostile as hell maybe with humans on the menu and very capable with stone age weapons like spears and bow and arrows. Team Odin came very close to din din you have to read this to find out how it goes down.
DA Roberts has brought it in hot and hard this book with his consistent 'take no prisoners' storytelling! The main character, Clark is what all of us wish we could be!! I was hurting for him this war engagement with broken ribs. I broke 3 ribs a few months back and I was tapping out of any and all engagements!! There are some awesome interactions in this book. Respect! Read this author!! I cannot turn pages fast enough. The author keeps it fresh!! Heading out to get the next book!
Each set of stories (that I have read so far) do not have to be read in order they refer to them if you are interested in the “ past” or “ future” but you don’t need to read them in a specific order. So super-big foot(s) are living in the butt crack of the USA and that’s where a super secret weapon is lost to retrieve it an entire team appears to have been wiped out ( an un enlightened one, they had no idea what goes bump in the night really exists) the group that does know is send in to get the weapon also comes under fire great story
Roberts book is an amazing read. The plot is believable, the characters are well drawn and sympathetic. The suspense makes it hard to stop reading for things like food and bathroom breaks. As the daughter of a WW 2 Army officer and battalion ommander I can tell you the military parts ring true. If you enjoy this type of book get it. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried at one scene. Keep going Mr Roberts. You're doing it right.
Love this series. I keep reading along and somehow managed to start in the middle of this series, but that's ok, its not really necessary to have read the previous books. I am still going back to read what I've missed. This is a great book for lovers of Bigfoot literature. Very few editing errors. I really enjoyed the footnotes, they were a great help. Some might be taken aback at the violence, but it doesn't distract from the story.
I’m really enjoying the books with two exceptions, that I’ve learned just to gloss over. It always seems to be weather related on why additional assets or equipment/medivac cannot fly in/out and the use of the term Special Forces to describe other military branches Special Ops. The Green Beret’s are Special Forces, all others, Navy Seals, Marine Force Recon/Raiders, Air Force Para Rescue/CCT/SST are Special Operations. But like I stated earlier it’s a minor detail easily read over.
This was a pretty decent action paranormal thriller. I gave it three stars because there was a ton of military jargon and descriptions, which is just not my thing. It was also a very macho book, despite the presence of several female characters. There’s nothing wrong with that either, but it’s also not my thing. The MC was one of those who always makes the right decision and just can’t do anything wrong.
Another great cryptid story. Clark is beginning to be one my favorite character. Although, Greyeagle is still my number one. This one brought back a lot of memories of my military days and cold weather training. What I liked most about this one was that the cryptids are smart and underestimated. That made it for an almost even battle. On to the next book!!
So I read this one out of order. I said that in my prior reviews. I was a little hesitant because I thought I knew what was going to happen. But I was pleasantly surprised this was still well worth the time. It had excellent action all the way through and the strong character development. I'm looking forward to the next Wild hunt installment.
The attention to detail makes this stand out as extremely good military fiction on par with the 80s novels that set the bar. Add the subject matter of cryptids and the easy reading style and you can’t stop yourself from reading it all. This book was read in one night!
I enjoyed the Ragnorak Rising series and gave this one a try. The action is nonstop and I liked the characters. I wouldn’t have imagined this many of the creatures existing, an interesting idea. I now have to read Lakeview Man to fill in some background, but this story can stand alone. I liked the weapons, tech, and action. Don’t tick off Sasquatch!
Awesome book. While each of D.A.'s series ( Code Name Wild Hunt, Lakeview Man, Apex Predator and Nightmare Hunter ) can be read in order, you will gain. a better understanding of the main characters if you read them in the overarching storyline of the "DAverse". That is on his website daroberts dot net.
Daniel Clark is new to the unit and when he and team Odin are sent to retrieve a downed drone and the original search team, he is soon in the thick of the action. Good start to a series, with some good characters. I think Clark is perhaps to indestructible, as he receives lots of injuries, but then just stills on to next objective.
I have always enjoyed a good military/SciFi book. This one includes fantasy type creatures, that take it a step further, because we can all relate to the bad guys. I enjoyed the story and it got exciting enough for me to want to finish quickly. It does inject humor at the right time. I was in the service ansd we learned you had to joke about death or go crazy. I am enjoying the series.
Book starts out with a group of Air Force PJ's being wiped out by unknown creatures. A top secret drone carrying a new weapon system is captured by the creatures. A top secret group of soldiers is sent to retrieve the drone and any survivors. Pretty good book.
Well plotted out, and full of action that draws you in fast. Great explanations of slang used and a great knowledge of military ops. I highly recommend this read. The cryptids were a mix of interesting and unexpected action. All in all a great read.
Well written and continues the story of Daniel Clark. D.A. Roberts keeps me coming back for more. He has developed a deep and rich environment for his characters to exist within.
This book contains a lot of adventure and excitement I gave it four stars inside a five because I thought the author had word creep in his narrative making the story longer than it needed to be otherwise very good book.
A fun story, good world building, but it does seem like I should have read some other books by the author, because their some preexisting relationships in these books that get a smidge confusing, but nothing that throws it off the rails.
I was hooked from the first paragraph! I could not put the book down, and read the whole thing in a day! Highly recommend! One of my favorite authors now, right up there with Mr. Heinlein...:-)
This is not what I’d expected. I never liked fictions with military backgrounds but this one is a pleasant surprise. It’s engaging and the emotions of each character were conveyed as though I’m at the scene. Reading book 2 now!
What a story! If you are in for non-stop military action, this is for you. You can tell D A Roberts was in the service with all the jargon used. He describes the weapons used. I felt I was right there with them in the fight. 5 star from me.
A really captivating series. Continuity is outstanding! This series rocks! The info at the end is very helpful. I thought this was pure fiction. I was wrong. Read this series for some really mind blowing info.
