I Stand All Amazed: Love and Healing From Higher Realms

Rate this book

The account of the extraordinary near-death experience the author had in 1976. Forwarded by George Ritchie Jr. M.D. Elane is a woman who has experienced an incredible amount of pain throughout her life. It would have been very easy for her to be vengeful and full of bitterness. Instead she humbly sought forgiveness, acceptance and direction from God. Elane's near-death experience or death vision as she calls it (in her words, she was not near death: she was dead), completely changed her life. She experienced God's Love and healing. With new understanding, Elane is a testament of love, always giving and concerned about those around her.

Another Near Death Experience book, strongly reminiscent of "Embraced by the Light." Elane Durham chronicles her near death experience in this easy to read memoir. I love, love, love reading about NDE's, so even if the writing is not the greatest (arguably the case in this account), the subject matter is still captivating and motivational. I came away from this book with an increased understanding of the importance of love and service, and it motivated me to think about how I could do better in those areas of my life. I also ate up Durham's apocalyptic vision of North America. It made sense on both literal and symbolic levels, and even if it's not totally accurate, it was still an interesting perspective. For newbies to Near Death Experience books, I totally recommend. This book took a grand total of two hours to read--that's including big breaks to talk about the book with my mom and husband--and is a pretty classic NDE.

A friend recommended this to me as a story of someone who found healing through what she learned during a near death experience. I enjoy reading of these kinds of experiences and trying to understand what they have learned. I love the themes of love and forgiveness and peace. It is a good reminder to me that I don’t believe this life is all there is, there is so much more and so much better!

Read this several years ago and loved the sincere openness of Elane's account. I always learn something unique when reading NDE's and this one was the detail of love and forgiveness she feels. Time for me to read ot again with the perspective of several years later.

Loved it. Overall made me want to be a better person, inspired me for good. Some parts could be strange/different, but over all I loved the positive messages in the book. I really had to listen to how my heart felt when I read it. Many things bore true to my heart. So I focused on that rather than the gloom and doom, etc. It claims this life is all about developing unconditional love for everyone and serving each other. They seem to go hand in hand. If you want to have unconditional love for someone then serve them. And if you want to serve someone then you will develop the unconditional love! I have experienced this in my own life personally and know this to be true. Sometimes this is a hard message to apply to a rude neighbor or a psycho teacher. Yet, it can be applied. The book also teaches to come unto Christ, he is our Savior and Redeemer. I chose to focus on the positive messages of the book and loved it. Inspired me for the better.

I am impressed by this story. Her tale of love from God seems to ring true.

I think there is a certain possibility of accuracy on her view of the Mormons - I cannot deny my own knowledge of "Mormon Magic" as I compare it to her book, and her book does answer the question about why the LDS church doesn't always seem so true --- because some of the members aren't at all interested in spiritual progression. This book helps answer that problem for me.

I am impressed - although wary of the church this book supports. But, like I said, she answers that problem in the pages by saying certain members don't care too much about spiritual growth, so this book gets 5 stars.

This is a book recommended by a friend. it is about a woman who "died" and then came back to life an hour or so later. She describes her experiences in great detail and says if she ever finds a church that teaches the same doctrines that she was taught while she was "dead" she would join that church. She has two young missionaries come to her door and she gets her wish. What I got from this book is that we are going to be judged mostly on how we treat others, the service we give others, and learning to forgive. Good book to read

This is the story of Elane Durham's near-death experience. While "medically dead" Elane is shown and taught the gospel of Christ. I have read this book multiple times, and every time I finish reading it I feel inspired to be a better person. I also gain a clearer perspective of life, and how important our time here on earth is. The main message of the book is to come unto Christ and strive to become like him through love and service. If you want an easy-read, inspirational, religious book this is a great pick!

AWESOME!
If you are LDS, you will enjoy this true story of a woman who was dead for nearly an hour, went to the other side, and shares how she found the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 15 years later...and joined. NO spoilers in my review...sorry! You'll have to read it.
It's amazing, though, as it happened to her in 1976....and the book was written in 1998. She describes things ....oh, you'll have to read it!
The forward is written by George Ritchie.

The second and best near death experience I have read.

Elane tells her story simply and sincerely. Her account really resonated with me. It was amazing to know that love is so important in the grand scheme of things.

Interesting account of the author's "death vision". It felt authentic, and was a good reminder of what matters most in this life, and of the tremendous unconditional love that Jesus Christ has for each of us. Reading it makes me want to be a better person.

Like all NDE books, this one's message was that only love and service matter in life, which can be comforting when you are bogged down by other worries. Such a message simplifies things.

This is a great story! My only problem with this book was that it seemed to end rather abruptly. I finished filled with questions!
