Under Suspicion

Rate this book
A killer lurks in the shadows. . . until it's time to strike again.Shona Tremaine, daughter of and assistant to State Senator Kemper MacDonald, decides to resign after a heated public argument with her father about his shady politics. Before she can give notice, however, she finds him murdered in their home, and she becomes a prime suspect. Worse, her life could be in danger. Rising local television news anchor Geoffrey Tremaine thought he’d left the world of politics forever when he resigned from his position with Senator MacDonald last year. What he hadn’t expected was that his wife, Shona, would stay with her father. Their bitter separation has been fodder for public rumors and innuendoes for nearly a year. But when Geoff receives news of his father-in-law’s murder, he cannot turn his back on Shona, despite his new employer’s demands that he reveal all about the skeletons in the MacDonald family closet—or he will lose his job. Shona confides to Geoff that she’d been planning to leave her father and politics behind, but then announces in their television interview that she would be willing to take her father’s place if her name is cleared. What is Geoff to believe? Will they be able to find a way through the rubble of their past? Will a determined murderer succeed in ending the MacDonald family legacy?

Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.

“You’re a doctor? Can you help me PARALYZE someone?"

Mel’s eyes bugged out like he’d just met a serial killer.

“Only temporarily, of course. I’m a writer, and I need one of my characters to be incapacitated.”

Mel regained his color, grinned, and gave me the needed information in graphic detail…I was only able to eat half a slice of pizza.

It was my introduction into the world of emergency medicine. It was Mel’s into fiction. We were both fascinated. A year and a half later we were married.

Thus began the partnership known as Hannah Alexander.*

Good read. Sure points out the fact that politics and politicians are corrupt... and currently mirrors reality.

Love Hannah Alexander’s books

Another great story set in Missouri. Mystery, intrigue and political drama shape this story. Someone is targeting political figures but no one seems to know who or why.

Good story. But, I didn't like this one as much as the others in the series.

Could Shona Tremiane have had a more complete life than she was living? Communication would be the key to a better life with her mother, her sister Karah Lee, and her husband Geoff. She already lost the chance to reconcile with her mother before she died and now there would be a lingering fight with her father. Will she continue to loose the ones she loves or will she realize that politics just might be the reason her life is so miserable. Hopefully she'll give up her career and life in politics or is there another solution.... Loved this one!!

I'd give this novel 3 and half stars if they let us give half stars. The suspense plot is good. The characters are developed fairly well. In the end, it makes sense that people end up where they are ... but it is probably better if you have read the series (which I admit, I have not read the whole series) because some pieces are missing here. It feels as if some of the 'romance' is underplayed. But I would rather have a good suspense with a weak romance than the other way around. Not bad.

I enjoyed the book - the clean writing, the characters, the story line. I thought when I started this book that these in the hideaway series were not in any order. But I felt like the author was writing as if we had known them already, and I found that annoying. I also thought the whodunit part of the book was sort of weak and pushed aside, not written as #1 priority of the story. Still, considering the other books I've read lately, this was far superior.

This book is more of a 3.5, for me. I liked the mystery and felt the characters were developed, except for Shona and Geoff. For such major characters I think they had the least amount of development. I just didn't get Shona's coldness toward her husband when she had already said she wanted to try to reconcile.

The book is more mystery than romance. The suspense was really good from the first murder scene to finding out who did it and why. There are plenty of suspects to keep you guessing. I would have preferred more chemistry between Shona and Geoff.
