Time Belong Ghost: A steampunk tale in ancient Papua New Guinea

Rate this book
It is the time belong the tumbuna - the time of the ancestors. In the ancient tropical forest, the River Tribe find two of their own, dead. They know that a shining giant has crossed into their lands.

They send for a hunter from Big Village, but the young man who travels the wide river to help is not quite what they expect. He is on the run and calls himself Painted Fox. With him, comes his old and ragged dog, UkanDooAh. There are ghost tattoos on the hunters that follow, and Painted Fox must take the village girl, Atepe, and run.

If he is going to survive, he will need her much more than she needs him.

'Steampunk in the rainforest. An engrossing tale of bravery and honour set against the backdrop of Papua New Guinea. A real page-turner.' Maple Moore - Dogbed Books.

'A totally unique setting, memorable characters and a killer story. Bang on.' Kanage, Port Moresby Review.

Robyn Goodmanham is an English teacher and fantasy writer from rural East Yorkshire.

Growing up on the wolds, life was predictable and so the novels of writers like John Wyndham, Tolkien and China Mieville helped Robyn escape. Writing continues to help them escape.

They currently have two active book series. The Iron and Bone books fuse advanced technology and primitive people. Giant (2016) tells the tale of Viking tribesman Seven on a journey to save his disabled son in a winter world inhabited by huge iron giants. Time belong Ghost (2020), the second in the series, pits young Papua New Guinea tribesman Painted Fox against the shining giants of the jungle. The third instalment, Sonya (2022) is set in the Arabian desert - a Bedouin princess and her four-year-old sister flee half iron-giants called the taytan.

The Stone War series is set in a traditional low magic fantasy world called Yunan. The first book, The Soup Stone (2019) tells the tale of young Altanian mercenary, Will Adams and his unlikely friendship with a lizard girl, Vavella - as well as a huge, ruined library. The next instalment of the story, The Nigth Man is due for release in late 2020.

Robyn likes Wado karate (only blue belt!), cross country running, horses, blacksmithing, dark beer and hot baths.

I liked the dog. It was the best bit. The rest was good though.
