An interesting read

I’m a big fan of mindset books and love to learn. My favorite line of the book is “what’s left to master but ourselves?”

Not What It Says It Is

This book's subtitle does not give an accurate reflection of what is in the book (and I think further illumination of a book’s topic is the function of a subtitle). When I saw the subtitle of this book at one of my favorite book review sites, I thought it would be ideal for me because negative self-talk is certainly an issue for me. But the author didn't address that at all in this book. What he discusses instead is our mental constraints, brought on narrow vision or expectations, and his ideas about how to break free of them with nonconformity, authenticity, and unmasking your identity. This being a self-help book, of course, he talks about things like mindfulness, awareness, journaling, affirmations, etc., etc.. You can tell that some of this stems from his own personal experience and growth arc, but much of it seems taken from the common font of current self-help information. For some reason, in the book's introduction, he starts by discussing the worldwide prevalence of depression. He didn't really draw the connection between that and the rest of the book very well, or at least not well enough to make it the very first thing talked about in the book. Because he didn't really address what was stated in the subtitle, I find myself somewhat disappointed in this book. Not that he doesn't offer some good insights that could be helpful, but it did not meet my expectations.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Embrace yourself and let everything else fall into place

Learning to accept who we are is the foundation of this book's message and, overlooking very minor formatting issues, it is worth the read.

We all tell ourselves stories and sometimes--or many times--these stories shackle our minds and prevent us from living our full lives. This book gives you great tools to unshackle your mind and live the life you were meant to live.

It is a great read. It helped me shift back into a positive mindset and gave me motivation to embrace me and let everything else fall into place. I recommend it!
