Very well written story and beautifully translated. The language used is a lot more flowery than most translated novels, but it really brought me into the era- the best way I can describe it is that it reminds me a lot of how a lot of Arthurian legends are retold. This is NOT a light read at all- the plot is very focused on certain history, politics, and dynamics, and it's quite interesting to dive into the world and to the MC as a king. He can seem rather one dimensional if you just skim, but the author really uses him (and the world) to explore the idea of a "true monarch". The concepts are really fun, though there are times it's a little hard to separate the events from actual history (Black Plague, Holy Roman Empire, etc) and overlay some of the views from the novel to rethink history. Loved this, though I would say if you don't have the patience to slowly enjoy or if you are looking for a fluffy BL, this wouldn't be for you. There's fluff in the extras.... kind of? XD
