Nanny Mango

Rate this book
In the form of a Grimm's fairy tale with a very New Zealand flavour, this is the story of Nanny Mango, a bully and a busy-body. She is always poking her nose where she is not wanted. Everyone is sick and tired of her, and they persuade Uncle Rongo, our tohunga, to try and sort her out. But when he puts a makutu (spell) on her, something goes very badly wrong.

The interest and reading age is 2-6 years.

There's a bit of hatred brewing around this village. Our main character is called MAN-go instead of MUNG-or, the latter of which his correct. You be the judge of whether she deserves to be called this. Look out for her two cats which continue to make an appearance in the illustrations. It deals with themes of hatred and loneliness.
