Terrible. Tore through it in less than four hours, so it wasn't even remotely interesting.

Good series

I rated it due to a bit of the same story as another series. I did enjoy it though. Really enjoy Lisa Jackson.

With her mother & brother dead and her father’s mental health failing, the heroine can see the loss of her childhood home happening before her eyes. Now, she's betrothed to marry the most unsuitable man to be her husband without any way to change her fate. With a supposed curse hanging over her clan’s name, a curse her people blame her for bringing upon them, the heroine is out of options and suddenly finds herself married before she can even blink. But the night of her wedding she is kidnapped from directly under her husband’s nose and off into the woods by a man thirsty for revenge.

The hero has been plotting his revenge for some time. He's already killed the man responsible for the rape of the hero's love and now he's got his eyes set on the man accomplice. But unfortunately, he didn't quite think out what would happen once he managed to kidnap the wife and now he's stuck with what to do with her. He will not kill her. He cannot bring himself to seduce her as his honor stands firm against seducing another man's wife. So, now he's got this fiery woman in his possession without the plan on how to get rid of her.

Sad as it is, the heroine can't be completely furious over her kidnapping because it did save her from having to be that disgusting man who calls himself her husband. But still, she is not some animal or product to be stolen or bartered with. Even if her captor is a handsome man with a comfortable kindness about him. Life at the camp is strained to say the least. She's aware that it's her duty to attempt to escape, that she is a prisoner technically but on the other hand she finds herself falling in love with the charming men around her and the hero in particular. They try to refrain from acting upon the desires growing between them but soon it becomes impossible to deny. Still, come morning, the heroine has escaped and the hero watched her go willingly. Now, it's no longer about revenge, it's about survival. His men are captive at the hands of his greatest enemy and the heroine is in danger of being raped by her very own husband. She returned home to discover her father is dead and her husband is now the laird of her clan and ruling with a cruel and malicious authority. She offers herself up as a sacrifice to see the hero and his men free but her husband is dishonorable as well as cruel. Now the only way to end their suffering if to see the man dead.

This was a nice book but it did have a particularly predictable plotline. I felt like I knew what was going to happen next at every step and I was correct for the most part. While historical romances are typically more geared towards tormented and emotionally damaged characters I often enjoy the healing powers of love that they often feature as their theme. This book was no different and I did like it but I wasn't completely sold on the hero and heroine romance. It was just a bit too.... obvious, I'll say. The heroine was very wishy washy on what she wanted and could change her mind on subjects 2 to 3 times in just a short chapter. I also found her to be a bit airheaded and reckless at times, especially when she returned home and imagined herself able to handle the demented husband awaiting her. Though I did at times admire her push for action and sympathized with her loses. The hero was a shining star in this book because I do love a tortured man. While he was eaten up with guilt about the rape and later death of the woman he loved as well as the death of his men who were just acting out his command, he had moments of charm and a twinkle in his eyes when teasing his friends. For the most part though he was brooding and tormented with the temptation of the wife of his enemy. I wasn't over the moon about this book but I did find it easy to read and it possessed a lovely flow about it that just sort of carried me away. P.S. some paranormal aspects I.E. witches and fortune te

4 and 1/2 Stars - Great Finish to the Welsh Medieval Trilogy!

This is the third in Jackson's medieval trilogy set in 13th century Wales (ENCHANTRESS, KISS OF THE MOON and OUTLAW). This one begins 10 years after the first one. I gave ENCHANTRESS and KISS OF THE MOON both 5 stars in my reviews, and this, the final installment, is also very good. I recommend reading the trilogy in order. In OUTLAW, Jackson ties up all the loose ends and brings the characters from the first two into the story for a dramatic and surprising finish. I'm giving OUTLAW 4 and 1/2 stars as I think it's not quite as good as the first two, but still highly recommended. The whole trilogy is a keeper.

We first met Ware of Abergwynn in ENCHANTRESS. He was the younger brother of Garrick, who lived in his brother's shadow. Then we encountered him as Wolf in KISS OF THE MOON, an outlaw who lived in the forest waiting until he could have his revenge on Tadd of Prydd, the man who cruelly took away his first love. When KISS OF THE MOON ended, Wolf took his revenge and then disappeared.

This story begins as a stranger in the forest, a man with a limp, heals Megan of Dwyrain's lame horse and tells her of the future that holds death and treachery for all those at Dwyrain. When she tells others of the man's vision, they believe it to be a curse of a sorcerer, and hold Megan responsible for what happens thereafter. Accidents and disease kill many at Dwyrain, and Megan's brother, younger sister and mother die, leaving only her and her sister, Cayley. Her ailing father decides Megan must wed and believes few will have her because they think she is cursed, so he betroths her to Sir Holt, one of his senior knights. Megan hates the man as he is ruthless and sadistic.

Meanwhile, Wolf is still living as an outlaw (by choice), focused on yet another man who will face his revenge. This time it's Sir Holt of Prydd, the knight now serving the Baron of Dwyrain and betrothed to Megan. Wolf's plan is to steal Holt's new bride, Lady Megan of Dwyrain, then ransom her. On the day of the wedding, after the ceremony is done, Wolf sneaks into the celebration disguised as a guest and abducts Megan. Really he's done her a favor as she loathes the cruel knight she was forced to marry. Once in the woods, camped with her and his men, Wolf realizes he is attracted to the girl and doesn't want to send her back, not even for ransom. And, Holt is angry as hell and looking for the outlaw.

Lisa Jackson's writing is superb, her feel for the medieval period is genuine, her plots are interesting and the characters are engaging. There were, however, a few plot developments in this one that bothered me:Wolf was smart and wise to Holt's cruelty, so he would not have sent his two men to Dwyrain as messengers claiming to come in peace expecting to be treated honorably; and at the end of KISS OF THE MOON, it seemed that Bjorn and Leah had fallen in love; now she's in a nunnery devoting herself to God. What happened?

I thought the second one in the trilogy was the best and the third not quite as good as the first two. That may be due to the heroines as Megan was not a strong as the first two, nor as interesting in the way of talents. But I definitely recommend this series and intend to read more of Jackson's medieval romances. Good historical romance authors who keep you up reading late at night, and wanting more when the story ends, are rare.

Here are Jackson's medieval romances in order within each series:

Welsh trilogy:

ENCHANTRESS
KISS OF THE MOON
OUTLAW

Dark Jewels series:

DARK RUBY
DARK EMERALD
DARK SAPPHIRE
DARK JEWELS

Medieval Romantic Suspense:

SORCERESS
TEMPTRESS
IMPOSTRESS

There's also the single novel she wrote in 2002 before the others, titled WILD AND WICKED. It's another 13th century tale.

I took a risk on this book because it was free on Amazon and by an author I had never heard of. It disappointed. The hero and heroine spent maybe a few hours together total over several weeks, even fewer hours talking, yet are somehow miraculously in love with each other. And then there was the plot twist of we had sex once, but, surprise we're pregnant. LO, HOW I ABHOR SURPRISE PREGNANCIES!!! I read to escape from my own reality, which includes infertility. So...FAIL!!!

This is apparently a historical romance novel. I am not sure about the historical part other than it occurs in Wales, deals with castles and lords and thieves and cruelty and such. It is a romance. Married woman of nobility falls in love with a rogue, and........ Well, gee, I won't give it away. Fast, easy read.

This was my first historical read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. The characters were awesome. I felt the chemistry between them as I read the book. Both the h/h were not the "norm" of this genre and this added to the spice of the book. Thoroughly enjoyed book

This novel addresses two audiences: the readers who like historical (medieval) fiction with archery and the like and those who like to see women and men joust on equal grounds.
In Outlaw, Lisa Jackson (aka Susan Crose) blends these two trends with great ability.
