I was curious. Would this book be satire? Silliness? A comment on the over-sexualized girls in so much manga? Unclear. For me, it's kind of like when I used to poke my cat awake as retribution for him waking me up at night by walking on me. He never cared / it wasn't that satisfying. Similarly, I thought it would be fun to see guys in these situations where their clothing was ill-fitting in a sexualized way, but in the end it felt just as inappropriate / voyeuristic. Oh, well.

Okay… so the artwork was great and the thickness of the paper is incredible. I wasn’t a fan of the chapters being separate stories. I wanted a full plot and that is not what this book is giving.

This was okay, not what I was expecting, but not in a bad way. It was funny and silly and entertaining in some points. I’m just not a fan of the main character and his personality, so that lessened my enjoyment of this by a lot. He’s not a bad character, he’s just a bit boring and sometimes annoying.

I’m curious about the world this is set in because it’s basically an all boys school, but they all do stereotypically “feminine” things like wearing bras and skirts and talking about beauty. I want to know what the world outside the school is and how the boys act outside the classroom. I liked a lot of the side characters and I am curious so I’m reading the next one, but I’m not sure how long I’ll keep up with this series.

Please! This whole thing was so so cute!!

A twist on your typical story about schoolgirls - this takes place in an all boys school where the uniforms are the same as what you’d see girls wear to school. The MC Kiritani is so adorable! He’s so worried that he will remain friendless and unpopular as class rep because he doesn’t have any “charm”. Harumi takes up his cause and tries to help him find ways to relate to the other students and it’s so cute!

There’s some fan service I personally wasn’t a fan of, but the stories are cute.

It’s funny, adorable, and a fun little manga to read between some darker stories. I definitely have to check out the next part!

I'm not quite sure how to rate this. I enjoyed the story, as simple as it was, and it was lovely to see male characters so nonchalantly embracing clothing that is often so gendered in our modern society. It's a weird series for sure, but I'll probably keep reading to see what happens next in the protagonist's pursuit of friendship and connection.

If Michelangelo himself conceived of and executed a manga series, this would be it. Truly, the Sistine Chapel of gimmick manga: a perfectly executed concept, full of robust bodies.

Suitable for teens. Presumably a satire, but does it matter?

Just Cute

It’s like a collection of filler episodes minimal plot, and minor jokes. It’s really just a vehicle for the puns associated with the narrative flip that is evident from the cover. All in all it’s cute, but I was hoping for at least some sort of plot.

Welcome to Hanamaru Academy, a beautiful place, filled to the brim with lovely ladies… who are actually muscled hunks!

I just had to read the book when I saw that cover. I was in the mood for something silly, something weird, something hilarious and this seemed to fit the bill. Well, after reading it… I can confirm this is perfect if you need something silly.

In this book we follow Kiritani, who is the class president of the class. He is your standard class president. For real. Strict, trying to do all the things, tries to get involved. No one listens to him though (or well, most of the time). But he tries to make friends and I liked that he kept going (despite it not always going well). I also liked that as the story continued he got closer to people/talked to more people. He is quite a fun guy and I laughed at how he reacted to things, his reactions are just so pure and innocent, haha.

Each chapter is something new. We see the boys wear sexy bras (yes, really) and talk about bras, we see how it is for them when it is hot outside and their bras show (one of them is even wearing a push-up bra), we see them discuss bathing suits vs bikinis, sunscreen/make-up is important!, see that Kiritani wants to be called cute, and much more. Each chapter made me giggle and laugh. It is as if you are reading your regular shoujo manga with girls doing girly things along with sparkles and glitters (so much of that at times)… but except for cute girls you get hunky and cute guys. I really love it! Thank you mangaka for thinking up something so glorious.

If the boys are wearing skirts and going to an all-girls school… (and the butler of one of the guys wears a maid outfit) I wonder what the girls are doing? Haha, I am kind of hoping that we get to see them and see the boys fawn over them in the way girls do.

I love the chapters have hashtags! That is so fun and creative and it fits so well with this over the top story!

I really like the art and how, despite these being hunks with often a fair bit of muscles, the outfits and the actions work very well.

All in all, I need more! I want more! This is weird, but also cute. I love it! Recommend to all.

This book has come under some criticism in my area for being about transgenderism or gender identity. After reading it, I don't think it is. It seems to be more of a straight-up role reversal, with the characters written exactly the way girls are normally written in high school manga, from the small, cute, popular one to the tall, buff, athletic one, talking about diets, bra color, and how much skin to show in public, but are drawn as male. There is no discussion of body dysphoria or trying to pass. There is no point where any character acts like there is anything unusual, from a societal perspective, going on. So, I think its aim is to poke fun at stereotypes about girls by showing someone who isn't expected to act that way doing it. Or the author thinks "boys" acting feminine is just automatically funny. Hard to tell from a translation.

I honestly love this series so much!
We follow a group of high school boys at Reiwa Hanamaru Academy! They all wear girls uniforms and bras, and we love them for it! This is a comedy that challenges gender norms, and really brings the laughs. I highly recommend it and can't wait to read more!

Manga : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What more to want then a love story about a private school where boys wear cute outfits and have rippling thigh muscles... I mean. Honestly.

Maybe it's just because of the university I teach at, but "boys wear girls' uniforms and worry about typical girl stuff" doesn't seem like ground-breaking (or any) comedy to me.

This was the cutest, most ridiculous thing I’ve EVER read in my life. It takes all of the tropes of silly girls’ school manga but with masculine characters and I adored every single page.

Well… this might not be for everybody, that’s for sure. We got some nice looking guys dressed as girls and somehow they kinda act like them too, which was hilarious to say the least –I mean, picture a beefy guy talk about bras and skirts, that’s just top shit.

I’m gonna praise it ‘cause we got no toxic masculinity and yet it made me wonder how girls would act in a situation like this, I mean, are they gonna act all tough and macho like frat boys do? LOL.

I’m not really sure I’ll be continuing with the series but at least I did have a good laugh. Kudos for that.

I don't know why I expected it to have less fan service but I did. And I shouldn't considering the cover. I do enjoy the gender swapping because all the problems they're having in here are just like what girls would have but now they're just boys and I can appreciate that.

I made the right decision pre-ordering this.

I have a lot of thoughts about what this manga says about the state of female sexuality (or, at least, female response to continued awareness regarding hetero-patriarchal views of sexuality?) and why this works so well as a parody, but for now I'll just say: Yumekawa is the only man worthy of my respect.

3.5 This is such a bizarre manga. It’s intended as a comedy, ofc, an attempt to turn some of the typical tropes of the high school manga setting on its head. I think.

I’m not entirely sure what the goal was. In the story, all the characters are “male” but they all (except for one teacher) dress in typical “female” clothing, bras included. It definitely is intriguing for me as someone who is exclusively attracted to men to see the typical fan service with bodies I actually find appealing (like panty shots or swimsuits or locker room moments). I could finally “get” why people like those tropes, to some extent.

But the characters also behave more stereotypically “girly” as well, for the most part...

So again, I’m not sure what to think. On one hand, I’d love to view this as an attempt to subvert gender norms and show that anyone can wear or act however they want regardless of AGAB, but I suspect that wasn’t the intent here. And yet it also doesn’t come off as pure “haha don’t these men look and act ridiculous when they dress and act like women” either. Despite by punch lines, it seems to take itself fairly seriously.

And that’s kinda where I am left not knowing how to review this.

Like, I really enjoyed it (bc hey, lots of hot men whose legs you can see, etc), but as someone NB, who is faced with issues of gender presentation and all a lot, I’m not entirely sure how comfortable I should be with this... or how I should even feel about it. Is it making fun of trans or GNC people? Or is it trying to show that gender stereotypes are stupid? I really am not sure.

Just for good laughs and light hearted fun

Gotta say, this story made me laugh. It is an interesting concept of switching the gender norms of clothes and mannerisms.

So here is my breakdown down of my 4 star rating:
*Added 1 star for the art style
*Added 1 star for enjoyability
*Added 1 star for changing social norms
*Added 1 star for the simple, light hearted, everyday life humor
*No star added for character development

The characters felt flat in the first volume due to character introductions and laid back storyline. Each chapter feels like just another ordinary day in the main character's life hence no true in depth development.

This is a literal Slice of Life comic at its most fundamental components, so the story isn't in depth at all or thought provoking. However, for this kind of laid back manga, that is perfect.

If you are looking for something with deep meaning or great character development at the start of the series, this one would not be your cup of tea. However, if you are looking for a light hearted laugh, this should fit that wish splendidly.

This was pure silliness and I adored it. I needed this between all the serious books I’ve been reading lately lol!! Beyond the being pure fluff and whackiness, it does act as a good parody of how stupidly many manga series treat women when it comes to fanservice by completely flipping things around to the fanservice being applied to men. This manga also really honors and uplifts so many different body types and I found that really sweet :) There was even a small discussion about body dysmorphia which was really refreshing and I’m looking forward to that being explored more.

3/5 because this is nothing groundbreaking in the SLIGHTEST but yes it certainly is a guilty pleasure LMFAO and I do not feel bad about indulging in pure silliness and escapism lord knows we need some of that these days!!

It’s like a more earnest version Ouran High School Host Club. In Ouran, the boys are putting on a performance for their clients, which at times spills into their daily demeanor. Here there is no such filter. These hunks wear bras and panties and shirt skirts simply because they like to do so. It’s not drag becuase drag acknowledges the idea of crossing a gender norm. Rather, Thigh High Academy is an alternate universe where this is the male norm, and there’s something really refreshing, almost wistful, about that.

It’s a pretty enjoyable read. And of course there is lots and lots of all the typical fan service scenarios from wet t-shirts to upskirt panty shots after falling down backwards. It’s a compilation of vignettes a la Saiki K, but the characters are a little less developed. But are you really reading it for the plot anyways??

3.5

Finally got my hands on this, and what a ride!
While the story was very simple, and I wish it was more cohesive...it was fun!
I loved the twist on the normal high school girl manga, and I feel like some of the topics were being shown in a new light. Would people feel the same way if it was another gender that was written in this style? that cared about clothes , weight or friendships? I did not like how some things were said/written, BUT this is how society teaches people; that we should care about our looks so we can be accepted.

I will be continuing the series.
They're so cute!

The cover is exactly what you're going to get, I thought it would be silly as hell but fun and that's what I got. You follow the class rep of this particular classroom dealing with his unpopularity amoung the students, most everyone is likeable and it's filled with cutesy tropes. I'll probably continue to buy the series.
