This book was a perfect find for me and I'm glad I found it when I had. I was just getting back into the Warhammer universe and had wanted to revisit my old love of the Blood Angels. Since this book contained one of my favourite stories about them, I had bought it, enthusiastic in the knowledge that the works of some of my favourite authors were contained within its binding (And by that logic was unlikely to disappoint.) I was not disappointed by the writing, the stories were excellently crafted and, as always, paints the characters and worlds in such a way that it feels like you are there or watching the scenes rather than reading about them. You are made to feel for the characters as they undertake their journeys. The curtains are drawn back in those pages and a brighter light into them as a chapter is shone on them in such a brilliantly crafted way that one never wants the book to end. (Yes I am reading it again!)
Some stories were hit or miss. But the ones that were good were great. It made see The Blood in a whole new light. The burdens they bear are great, and their sins many. What an awesome read. If you are a blood angels fan this is a must.
Flesh of Cretacia - 3* Sons of Wrath - 4* Trial by Blood - 5* A Son’s Burden - 5* Death of Integrity - 3* The Rite of Holos - 3* Lemartes - 5* Sin of Damnation - 2* Sanguis Irae - 3* Mephiston: Lord of Death - 4* Eclipse of Hope - 3* Heart of Rage - 5* Crimson Night - 4* The Fury - 3* Honours - 3* The Chalice - 3* The Blooding - 3* Honour and Wrath - 3* Eternal - 4* The Sanguinor: Exemplar of the Host - 3* Dante: Lord of the Host - 4*
Blood Angels are cool, Flesh Tearers are cooler, it just has to be said.
I wish I enjoyed Death of Integrity more, the action just didn't do it for me. Too repetitive and an unceasing agglomeration of names and corridors surrounding some really cool sci-fi ideas and plot execution.
Lemartes was the highlight. Pure, blood-fuelled insanity.
Shoutout Josh for letting me borrow this big ass book.
A collection of Blood Angels stories with quite a few excellent books. My personal favorite is Death of Integrity, which is like the Aliens movies in 40k. A lot of good writers in this Omnibus. The most edgy, blood soaked thing I have ever read. But there's a little depth to each story that goes beyond that. So I like it.
